ABSTRACT: Between 10 and 21 October 2012, the population of scallops was assessed in the natural banks of Independence bay. Between Morro Quemado and Canastones isotherms 15, 16 and 17 °C were recorded. Despite the presence of “El Niño” weak, the results showed low population density of the species that failed 6 ind/m2. The estimated total biomass was 422.514 t (±23.15%) and 10.99 million population of individuals (±23.09%), of which 19.2% of the population and 51.17% of the biomass were for specimens of commercial size (≥65 mm). 203 specimens scallops were measured with sizes between 3 and 101 mm of valvar high with fashion in mean length 49 mm and 44.88 mm. Sexually maturated stages predominated (33.5%), immature (31.5%), spawning (28.6%) and spawned (5.9%). Instituto de Mar del Perú
