En el año 2014 se realizó la primera y, hasta el momento, única campaña de excavación en un centro de culto menor asociado a una ciudad en el territorio político de Cástulo. Su diseño sigue el esquema tradicional de cueva santuario abierta hacia el valle. La intervención en la primera terraza ha permitido documentar varios hogares, una plataforma de adobe, un asador votivo y un registro cerámico coherentes con una práctica ritual vinculada a la comensalidad. La progresiva transformación arquitectónica del área de servicio hacia una terraza abierta podría enmarcarse como parte del proceso de implantación de un sistema ciudadano. Estas novedades referidas a un santuario suburbano completan el significado de los grandes referentes territoriales de las cuevas de Collado de los Jardines y de Castellar. In 2014 was carried out the first and, to date, only archaeological excavation conducted in a minor worship center associated with a city in the political territory of Cástulo. Its design follows the traditional sanctuary-cave planning, opened towards the valley. The archaeological intervention on the first terrace has allowed us to document several hearts, an adobe platform, a votive iron roaster and a pottery record related to ritual practices linked to commensality. The continuous architectural transformation of the service area towards an open terrace may be framed in the citizenship process. En este trabajo se presentan unas piezas recuperadas con motivo de una excavación arqueológica de urgencia realizada en 2020 en la zona de la necrópolis oriental del yacimiento de Torreparedones (Baena, Córdoba). Se trata de 7 placas de piedra que representan figuras de caballos y que se interpretan como exvotos depositados en un posible santuario dedicado a una divinidad protectora de dichos animales. Se fechan en época romana altoimperial. El hallazgo supondría la existencia de un segundo santuario iberorromano extramuros vinculado a la misma ciudad. This work presents some pieces recovered due to an emergency archaeological excavation carried out in 2020 in the area of the eastern necropolis of the Torreparedones site (Baena, Córdoba). It is about 7 stone plates whichs represent figures of horses and that are interpreted as votive offerings deposited in a possible sanctuary dedicated to a protective divinity of these animals. They are dated to the High Imperial Roman period. The discovery would mean the existence of a second extra-wall Ibero-roman sanctuary connected to the same city. Settlement dynamics in Iron Age Eastern Iberia point up the formation of coalitions of several sites under the control of Iberian towns. I present ideological strategies and ritual practices used to promote a sense of community in this new political order. The creation and re-creation of this communitarian identity is largely based in the construction of a sacred landscape with local sanctuaries. In addition, complex pottery iconography related to ritual practices contributed to aggregate individuals and communities. This work was supported by the MINECO [grant HAR2012-37003-C03-02].

Maya cities are known to have managed water; their existence in areas prone to seasons of excessive rainfall and long dry spells demanded it, but have these systems of water channels, aqueducts and reservoirs been viewed simply as utilitarian civil engineering? Recent excavations at the Maya site of Nakum in north-east Guatemala have revealed that the Maya might have had a more nuanced and symbolic approach to water and its management, one that reflected their belief system, replicated their interpretation of the cosmos and facilitated the use of water in ritual architecture and the display of power.

In recent years, different scientific disciplines, from Physics to Egyptology, from Geology to Archaeoastronomy, evidenced a series of clues pointing to the possibility that the original project of the pyramid complex of Khufu at Giza included also the project of the second pyramid complex at the same site, that of Khafra.
