At the same time, this is also the first confirmed movement of killer whales from Iceland to Spain, Italy, and Lebanon, and the first documented account of killer whales in Lebanese waters. Killer whales ( I Orcinus orca i , Linnaeus 1758) are apex predators that are widely distributed throughout the world's oceans (Forney & Wade, 2006), and can travel over large distances. This has been the case for the Strait of Gibraltar killer whale population (Ruth Esteban, personal communication, December 2019), killer whales of the Azores (Laura González García, personal communication, January 2020; Rui Peres dos Santos, personal communication, January 2020), and killer whales from Scottish waters (A.S., personal observation).
