Abstract

The article presents a study on early virologic failure (EVF) prevalence and the development of antiretroviral (ARV) drug resistance mutations on HIV-infected Ugandan children. It states that population sequencing of HIV-1 was used to identify ARV mutations. Results shows that EVF occurred in 16 Ugandan children but one child met the World Health Organization's (WHO) CD4 criteria for ARV failure. It adds that second-line therapy can be used for HIV-infected Ugandan children who experience EVF.
