En 1963-64 tuvo lugar el trabajo de campo dentro del proyecto Etnología de Andalucía Occidental, considerado pionero en los estudios antropológicos sobre Andalucía. Nunca se publicaron sus resultados, pero se ha conservado un extraordinario material (fotografías, fichas, Memoria) que se analiza en el presente trabajo, en relación con el marco teórico-metodológico en que se fundamentó. In 1963-64, fieldwork was carried out within the Ethnology of Western Andalusia project, considered a pioneer in anthropological studies on Andalusia. Its results were never published, but extraordinary material has been preserved (photographs, files, Memory) that is analyzed in this work, in relation to the theoretical-methodological framework on which it was based.

In this article, we examine the spring ceremonies, the Eastern Udmurt’s summer ceremonies, and the Udmurt holidays (the Great Day, the Day of the Plough, Easter, commemoration days, etc.) during the COVID-19 quarantine as well as the humorous songs and chastushkas inspired by the quarantine and self-isolation. This article is the first attempt to describe and characterise the influence of the pandemic on the example of the Udmurt traditional culture. In our analysis, we rely on internet posts, data transmitted by informants, articles in district papers as well as observations by the authors. The data allow us to evaluate the changes in Udmurt customs and people’s adaptation to critical situations. Self-isolation caused anxiety in many village dwellers, because it was not possible to party in real time and place. The internet posts confirmed that the Udmurt are happy to share preparations and proceedings of their feasts, they like to send congratulations to friends and kin, who are able to participate both in joyful and sad emotions. The humorous Udmurt songs and chastushkas posted on the Internet help to survive in the difficult situation in the republic due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The article presents the analysis of the catalog «Ulchi» by the Khabarovsk Regional Museum n.a. N.I. Gro-dekov. The performance of the local museum is considered in the context of all-Russian experience of cataloging of the museum collections, which is of a particular importance for historical science. The author examines the program of scientific cataloging of the museum collections, featuring the traditional culture of almost all indigenous peoples of the Russian Far East. We conclude that the series of ethnographic catalogues of the museum has made a significant contribution to the Far East museum studies and ethnography. The new catalog «Ulchi» pre-sents the largest ethnographic collection of the museum, which characterizes the material and spiritual culture of one of the eight indigenous populations of the Lower Amur River Region — the Ulchi. The catalog includes 808 ethnographic artifacts — household items, clothes, fishing and hunting equipment, items of ritual culture, shaman-ism and family relations of the Ulchi (19th–21st c.). Specific sections include more than 300 photographs and nega-tives (19th–20th c.), as well as detailed background information. Some artifacts, such as ritual sculptures, shaman clothing and attributes, utensils for ritual rites, ancient devices for fishing etc., are published for the first time. The catalog was prepared by a large team of authors involving Ulchi craftsmen and linguists. The catalog «Ulchi» introduces new materials into scientific discourse, and it can serve as a source for comparative ethnographic, historical and museum studies analysis. It has been emphasized that the newly published catalog of the Kha-barovsk Regional Museum n.a. N.I. Grodekov allows representatives of this people to connect with their own cul-tural heritage; it contributes to the formation of their historical memory and identity.

The paper addresses conditions and factors of transformation of the female space in the traditional culture of the Nenets of Yamal up to the beginning of the XXI century. It is noted that the impact of socio-economic and cultural transformations of the modern society contributes to the deformation of the traditional life supporting system and the penetration of non-traditional elements into the life of the indigenous population. The work is based on the data of the author’s sociological research conducted in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (Tazovsky, Yamalsky, Purovsky, Shuryshkarsky, Priuralsky and Nadymsky areas). Education is considered as one of the main factors of this transformation, in particular, an increase in educational level of women, leading to greater economic independence and a change in the position of the Nenets women in the family. Changes in ritual and ceremonial culture are studied as factors of transformation of the female space in the traditional Nenets culture, in particular, changes in the ceremonies of the life cycle (wedding and maternity ceremony), as well as interethnic marriages associated with intensification of industrial development of the Nenets traditional territories.

The article presents an attempt to carry out the cultural analysis of folk music in culture of the Russian province. The author made the conclusion that the folk song in variety of its genre and regional options as a significant factor of preservation of national cultural tradition is a peculiar way of the Russian province "self-description", its spatial and mental properties.

First, it offers a review of ethnographic audiovisual modalities, with concrete recommendations for its research methodology. Secondly, describes the form of access and contents about traditional culture present in the Camarillo Archive, NO-DO, Guadalajara Museum, Folklore School / Center for Traditional Culture and Television Guadalajara. We analyze the book of famous ethnographers from Omsk, Tomilov and Akhmetova, which is dedicated to traditions and innovations in the Kazakh culture in Western Siberia. The reviewers highlighted scientific significance of publication of the field materials of the first Kazakh historical and ethnographic expedition of Omsk State University in 1976. The scientific significance of the book is that the authors summarized many years of research of Kazakh ethnographic groups in Russia. Also, there is a list of perspective directions for further research.

the article describes the organization of the traditional cultural landscape of the Sakha people. Analysis of the data obtained as a result of field work and the survey of residents revealed the relationship of material manifestations of the organization of living space with the local mythology and spiritual culture. It outlines the main characteristics of ethnic and cultural landscape: the centrality, polimasshtabnost, anisotropy.

External contacts and the internal evolution of the phenomenon are taking into account as well.

Serbian ethnology and anthropology is missing papers on folk belief and magic practices on black and white magic. This paper problematizes research on Vlach magic as an authentic and archaic culture of the ethnic Vlachs in North-Eastern Serbia. The first part of the paper deals with theoretical concepts of magic, while the second presents the results of research on the relationship between young people in Bor towards Vlach magic, as part of traditional folk religion and archaic cultural heritage which is still relevant today.

Speakers of a Central-Malayo-Polynesian language, the Nage of central Flores possess three terms for ‘person, people’ and ‘human being’: ata, hoga, and kita ata. The paper explores various semantic and social contexts in which the terms are differentially employed. Further discussed are lexical connections and semantic parallels with terms in other Malayo-Polynesian languages and the way these bear on the referents of Austronesian protoforms. Particular attention is given to Blust’s reconstruction of *qa(R)(CtT)a (reflected by Nage ata) as a word hypothetically specifying ‘outsiders, alien people’. With reference to Nage and other languages of Flores, it is shown how, rather than a simple contrast of outsiders and own group, ata and hoga are employed to express a variety of kinds and degrees of association or disassociation between speaker and referent. In this connection further attention is given to: (1) the question of whether Nage terms for humans and compounds formed from these compose a taxonomy comparable to the taxonomic ordering of plants and animals commonly found in folk biological classifications, and (2) the relation between the terms denoting human beings and Nage categories translatable as ‘(non-human) animal’ and ‘spiritual being’.

This report presents a brief discussion of indigenous peoples’ development as evidenced in a select number of case studies about World Bank financed projects that had a positive impact on indigenous peoples’ communities. The main objective of this study is to identify and document good practices and lessons learned that can be shared with World Bank staff, borrower governments, and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations to help improve the design and implementation of projects that trigger the World Bank’s Operational Policy on Indigenous Peoples and/or are primarily oriented toward the sustainable development of indigenous peoples. World Bank activities with regard to indigenous peoples have been primarily focused on applying OP 4.10 to ensure that indigenous peoples receive social and economic benefits that are culturally appropriate and gender and age inclusive, and to mitigate possible adverse impacts associated with Bank-financed projects. The policy itself encourages Bank engagement and financial support for a variety of initiatives that go beyond projects, engaging in broader dimensions of country relationships that improve the circumstances of indigenous peoples. As a result, the Bank increasingly addresses issues concerning indigenous peoples through: (1) country economic and sector work/analysis, (2) dialogue and technical assistance, and (3) capacity-building. This report is an initial attempt to document good practices and lessons learned through results with regard to indigenous peoples’ development. It is intended to support the ongoing engagement process with indigenous peoples and to inform the process of finding better ways to promote sustainable development that will positively affect indigenous communities.

This paper is an exploration of the modernist project of museums’ construction of "reality" through the processes of the collecting and displaying of objects, as practiced in the Ethnographic Museum Belgrade. Through the analysis of the museum’s collecting and exhibiting practices, I will try to argue that in Belgrade ethnographic museum practice the idea of the nation is closely connected with the idea of ethnicity as a bounded whole of the distinctive characteristics embodied in the traditional culture that the museum collects and displays.

Η παρούσα εργασία, απαρτίζεται από τρία μέρη. Τα δυο πρώτα μέρη αποτελούν το θεωρητικό πλαίσιο και την εγκυκλοπαιδική εξέταση του θέματος και το τρίτο περιλαμβάνει το ερευνητικό κομμάτι της δουλειάς μας. Σε αυτό το σημείο, καλό θα ήταν να γίνει μια σύντομη παρουσίαση του καθενός ξεχωριστά. Στο θεωρητικό πλαίσιο, λοιπόν, εξετάζονται δύο θέματα. Αρχικά γίνεται μια σύντομη παρουσίαση αφενός της επιστήμης της Ανθρωπολογίας και αφετέρου της επιστήμης της Λαογραφίας, έτσι ώστε ο αναγνώστης να μπορεί να κατανοήσει τις γενικές αρχές και τους κανόνες που χαρακτηρίζουν τις δυο αυτές συναφείς επιστήμες. Επίσης, ιδιαίτερα μας απασχολούν έννοιες όπως “πολιτισμός”, “παραδοσιακός πολιτισμός”, “σύμβολα” και “έθιμα” και προσπαθούμε να δούμε πως οι παραπάνω έννοιες συνδέονται με τις επιστήμες της Ανθρωπολογίας και της Λαογραφίας. Στο δεύτερο μέρος του θεωρητικού πλαισίου, γίνεται αναφορά στις μεθόδους έρευνας που χρησιμοποιούν τόσο η Ανθρωπολογία όσο και η Λαογραφία για να μελετήσουν, παραδείγματος χάριν, μια πληθυσμιακή ομάδα, μια πτυχή ενός πολιτισμού ή ακόμα και έναν ολόκληρο πολιτισμό. Συγκεκριμένα, ερχόμαστε σε μια πρώτη επαφή με μεθόδους έρευνας όπως είναι η επιτόπια έρευνα, η συμμετοχική παρατήρηση και η συνέντευξη, τονίζοντας τα βήματα που ακολουθούνται, όπως επίσης και τα ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά μιας ανθρωπολογικής μελέτης. Στο τρίτο και τελευταίο τώρα μέρος, όπως αναφέρθηκε και παραπάνω, γίνεται μια παρουσίαση της μελέτης μας πάνω στο συγκεκριμένο έθιμο με το οποίο ασχοληθήκαμε. Αναλυτικότερα, με την μελέτη του εθίμου της “φρούτουλας” και του τρόπου με τον οποίο το έθιμο αυτό μαθαίνεται και περνάει από γενιά σε γενιά, ευελπιστούμε να δώσουμε στον αναγνώστη μία συστηματική περιγραφή όλης αυτής της εθιμικής διεργασίας που είναι ακόμα ζωντανή στην Μαλεσίνα. This dissertation consists of three parts. In the first two parts the theoretical framework and encyclopaedic aspects of our theme are exposed, while the third part presents our research and its results. These three parts are briefly presented here. In regards to the theoretical framework, it deals with two issues. In the first part, it will be briefly presented on the one hand, the science of Anthropology and on the other hand the science of Laography, so that the reader can understand the general principles and rules that characterize these two related sciences. Also, concepts such as "culture", "traditional culture", "symbols" and "customs" will concern us and we will try to understand how the above concepts are related to the sciences of Anthropology and Laography. In the second part of the theoretical framework, we will refer to the survey methods used by both Anthropology and Laography to study, for instance, one ethnic group, one aspect of a culture or even an entire culture. Specifically, we will have a first contact with research methods such as fieldwork, participant observation and interview, highlighting the steps to be followed, as well as the specifics of anthropological study. In the third and last part, as mentioned above, we present our study on this particular custom which we dealt with. More specifically, by referring to the purpose of our work, the reasons for choosing the topic, the methodology, the first contact with the research, but also to the themes-categories that arise and characterize all the interviews, we hope to offer the reader a holistic view of all our research effort.

In this article, the authors opt for building a descriptive route of analysis dealing with the concept of "Rearing guidelines" and its content, since in order to talk about alternate rearing practices, that is to say, relating to indigenous and afro groups, it is necessary to clarify that in the interest of Eurocentrism, the knowledge of modern Western science has been privileged, and the created and reproduced knowledge by the aforementioned groups has been excluded, forgetting that they are also part of the dogma of valid knowledge. Therefore, in order to understand the wealth of others forms of knowledge and/or decolonization of knowledge, it is necessary to know and to respect the worldviews of the silenced voices, since their speeches have been subordinated and/or mediatized by others without allowing them to make them known from their own voice, from its epistemic, ethical, and political places. Then, the idea is to supplement the Western episteme with other episteme. En el presente artículo se opta por construir una ruta descriptiva de análisis que permitiera poner en consideración el concepto de “Pautas de Crianza” y su contenido, puesto que para hablar de prácticas de crianza alternas, es decir, de los grupos indígenas y afro, es preciso aclarar que en aras del eurocentrismo se han privilegiado los saberes de la ciencia occidental moderna y se han excluido los saberes creados y reproducidos en el interior de los grupos étnicos mencionados, olvidando que también forman parte del dogma de los saberes válidos. Por lo tanto, para comprender la riqueza de otras formas de conocimiento y/o hacer una decolonialidad del saber, es necesario conocer y respetar las cosmovisiones de las voces acalladas, ya que sus discursos han sido subalternizados y/o mediatizados por otros sin permitirles darlos a conocer desde su propia voz, desde sus lugares epistémicos, éticos y políticos. Entonces, la idea es complementar la episteme occidental con otras epistemes.

"A growing body of anthropological research has turned to study Islam as a discursive tradition that informs the attempts of Muslims to live pious and moral lives, the aff ects and emotions they cultivate and the challenges they pose to a liberal secular ideology. While this turn has provided direction for a number of innovative studies, it appears to stop short of some key questions regarding everyday religious and moral practice, notably the ambivalence, the inconsistencies and the openness of people’s lives that never fi t into the framework of a single tradition. In short, there is too much Islam in the anthropology of Islam. To fi nd ways to account for both the ambivalence of people’s everyday lives and the often perfectionist ideals of good life, society and self they articulate, I argue that we may have to talk a little less about traditions, discourses and powers and a little more about the existential and pragmatic sensibilities of living a life in a complex and often troubling world. By broadening our focus to include the concerns, practice and experience of everyday life in its various moments and directions, we may eventually also be better able to make sense of the signifi cance of a grand scheme like Islam in it." The articles in ‘Dealing with Uncertainty in Contemporary African Lives’ are based largely on work in Tanzania which has been spared much of the turmoil that elsewhere has uprooted populations and destroyed communities. Nevertheless they illuminate phenomena common throughout sub-Saharan Africa as modernity in its many guises undercuts old certainties, outmodes established knowledge of how to order life and deal with crises, introduces new hazards, and frustrates ambition and expectations. But as the editors, Haram and Yamba, point out, uncertainty and insecurity have a positive side, providing the basis for ‘curiosity and exploration’. The case studies demonstrate both the increasing uncertainty and insecurity of life in contemporary Africa and the ways that people respond, including warding off and reaching out. Scapegoats are sought. Witch beliefs become elaborated as explanations of failures and malaise while witchfinding becomes a lucrative profession. Pentecostal or other fundamentalist churches burgeon as they assure people that life has meaning and better times are before them if only they believe. Suicide and insanity are other possible responses. All in all, a thought-provoking volume. This study of the Lafofa Nuba in the Sudan is the first comprehensive analysis of a matrilineal Nuba group. The author discusses the ways in which the Lafofa people in the Sudan are affected by centralisation of administration, commercialisation of agriculture, and the influence of Muslim culture.
