Dundadela maculata Zahradník & Trýzna sp. nov. (Figs 1–16) Type material. Holotype (male): Madagascar, Isalo N.P., Oasïs, 879 m, S22°37′05″, E45°21′08″, 19.–20.i.2013, M. Trýzna leg. (FGMRI). Paratypes (7 males): 1 male: Madagascar, Isalo N.P., Piscine nat., 850 m, S22°33′, E45°23′, 21.i.2013, M. Trýzna leg; 1 male: Madagascar, Isalo N.P., Namaza camp, 776 m, S22°32′22.2′′, E45°22′46.0′′, 22.i.2013, M. Trýzna leg. [all specimens come from Fianarantsoa province] (FGMRI); 2 males: Madagascar, Tamatave prov. [= Toamasina province], Moramanga env., 21.–24.xii.1996, I. Jeniš leg. (FGMRI); 3 males: idem but 27.-30.xii.1996, I. Jeniš leg. (BMNH, FGMRI, MTDC). Description. Male (holotype). General appearance. Body long oval (Fig. 1), mostly parallel, body length 7.0 mm, the greatest width (on elytral base) 2.7 mm. Coloration. Body brown, antennae, palpi and legs light brown. Pubescence short, recumbent, white-silver, in nebulous pattern (Figs 1, 4, 7). Vestiture and structure. Head (Figs 2–3, 10) slightly transverse convex, matt shining (velvety), densely and finely punctuated, punctures almost contiguous. Pubescence very sparse, short, recumbent, inclined forward. Eyes large, globular, glabrous. Frons 2.3 times wider than width of eye in dorsal view. The last segment of maxillary palpi spindle shaped, 1.3 times longer than wide. Antennae (Figs 1, 8, 12, 14) with eleven antennomeres, last three antennomeres strongly enlarged, penultimate two strongly pectinate, others filiform. Antennomere I robust, 1.5 times as long as wide. Antennomere II 0.25 of length of I, width 0.7 of length. III twice as long as wide and 1.4 times as long as previous. IV the same width as III, 0.55 of length of III. V twice as long as wide, 1.1 times as long as previous. Antennomeres VI and VII of the same length and width, half as long as V. VIII transverse, twice as wide as long, one-fifth of length of VII. IX six times as long as wide, X seven times as long as wide, their length longer than IV to VIII combined. Ramus on IX 2.2 times as long as length of antennomere IX, ramus on X 1.8 times as long as length of antennomere X. Rami of antennomeres IX and X widened towards the apex. Antennomere XI filiform, long elliptical, the same width as I, 4.6 times as long as wide. Pronotum (Figs 1, 4, 7) transverse, without hump, ratio of its length to maximum width 0.8, widest in the middle, strongly oblongly narrowed backwards. Surface matt-shining, finely and densely punctuated, punctures almost contiguous. Pubescence short, recumbent, white-silver, nebulous pattern. Elytra (Fig. 1) parallel, without distinct humeral angles, with four very fine and indistinct longitudinal carinae (not visible on Fig. 1), equally distributed on elytra. Ratio of maximum length to maximum width of elytra 1.7. Surface and pubescence the same as on pronotum (Fig. 1). Scutellum small, triangular, 1.2 times as long as wide. Legs (Fig. 1) slim, femora 0.8 of length of the tibia. Tibia triangular in cross-section, with two sharp longitudinal edges. Tarsi two-thirds of length of tibiae. Tarsomere I as long as II and III together, II 1.2 times as long as III, III slightly transverse, 1.1 times as wide as previous. All these three tarsomeres widened at apex. Tarsomere IV shallowly emarginate from above, the same length as III, 1.2 times as wide as previous. The last tarsomere, V, robust, as long as II, the same width as IV at apex, widest at the apex, with two claws, widely spaced apart. Claws on interior part without teeth. Abdomen (Fig. 11) consists of five ventrites, ventrite I in the middle with short blunt wide promontory. Terminalia (Figs 13, 15–16). Aedeagus symmetrical (Figs 13, 16). Median lobe wide, parameres narrow, as long as median lobe; on apex with two more or less sharp small teeth inclined to median lobe. Each paramere with long, slim promontory. Lateral corner of tegmen [= Genitalbügel (Gottwald 1977), = genital stirrup (e. g. Zahradník 2006, 2013)] without promontory, rounded and broadened (Fig. 15). Female. Unknown. Variability. Differs in size of body—total length varies from 5.6 to 7.0 mm, width at base of elytra from 2.2 to 2.7 mm. Colour of body brown, to reddish-brown (possibly on teneral specimen). Differential diagnosis. The species has forward oriented head (probably semi-prognathous in natural position), antennae with 11 antennomeres, and only antennomeres IX and X strongly pectinate (see Differential diagnosis of the genus above). Etymology. From the nebulous (cloud like) arrangement of pubescence on the body, forming small rounded spots. Collecting circumstances. Three specimens of the type series (including holotype) were collected in Parc National de l´Isalo near Ranohira in Fianarantsoa province, S Madagascar (Figs 17–18). This area is dominated by a sub-arid climate. The territory consists of sandstones, shale and conglomerate (Fig. 17). The low, sparse forests are located mainly in the deeply carved canyons of the sandstone massif, and accompanied by sclerophyllous woodland with secondary grasslands and pastures in the vicinity (see also Goodman et al. 2018). These specimens from Isalo were caught at night at light near dry, dead trees (Fig. 18). Another five specimens of the type series, however, come from the vicinity of Moramanga in Toamasina province, C Madagascar. Climatic conditions are completely different here. A humid climate prevails with a much larger amount of precipitation compared to Isalo. There are remnants of degraded medium altitude moist evergreen forest. However, we do not know the collecting details of the specimens from Moramanga. Distribution. A new genus and species, Dundadela maculata gen. nov. & sp. nov. (Ptinidae: Anobiinae: tribe incertae sedis) from Madagascar is described, male genitalia are illustrated. Comparison with similar genera is given. Ecological notes, including photographs of habitats of the new species, are provided.

Dundadela Zahradník & Trýzna gen. nov. (Figs 1–16) Type species. Dundadela maculata sp. nov., by original designation. Placement. Subfamily Anobiinae, tribe incertae sedis. Name derivation. Dundadela, gender feminine, dedicated to our colleague and friend Mr. Radek Dunda (*30 June, 1969–†30 March, 2020), specialist in the family Attelabidae (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea) (Figs 20–21). Description. Male. Body long oval, mostly parallel (Fig. 1). Head (Figs 2–3, 7, 10) forward oriented (probably semi-prognathous in natural position), slightly transverse convex, eyes large, globular, glabrous.Antennae (Figs 1, 8, 12, 14) with eleven antennomeres. Flagellum filiform, antennomere VIII strongly transverse, last three antennomeres strongly enlarged, IX–X strongly pectinate, XI simple and robust. Pronotum (Fig. 4) transverse, slightly concave dorsally, without central bump; pronotal lateral margin only partly visible, on posterior part invisible (in dorsal view). Elytra (Fig. 1) parallel, without distinct humeral angles, with four very fine and indistinct longitudinal carinae (not visible on Fig. 1), equally distributed on elytra. Legs (Fig. 1) short and slim. Anterior coxae (Fig. 10) very close, touching, mesocoxae (Fig. 9) very similar. Metacoxae (Fig. 9) slightly separated. Metathoracic ventrite (Fig. 9) with short longitudinal depression, posteriorly sharpened. All coxae conical. Claws (Fig. 6) widely spaced, not bifurcate at apex. Mesosternum (Fig. 9) posteriorly without hook, metasternum without tarsal grooves. Abdomen (Fig. 11) with five ventrites, I with short blunt wide promontory in middle. Aedeagus symmetrical (Figs 13, 16). Differential diagnosis. Dundadela gen. nov. differs from other genera of subfamily Anobiinae by antennal structure—no other genus of this subfamily has antennomeres IX and X pectinate. Only genus Megorama Fall, 1905 (subfamily Xyletininae) has similar structure of antennae, but it has a distinctly hypognathous (orthognathous) head. Megorama (unlike Dundadela) lacks elytral carinae. Six new species of spider beetle are described from southwestern Peru: Cordielytrum silvae, sp. n., C. inca, sp. n., C. fimbriatum, sp. n., C. obscurum, sp. n., C. adustum, sp. n., and C. globuloides, sp. n. The potential for undescribed diversity in this genus is discussed, as well as the geographic distribution and biology of species.

Diagnosis: This species is distinguished from congeners by its yellowish tan and speckled dark brown elytral coloration, the absence of carinae on the elytra, and the distinct rectangular or conical shaped elytral scales. Description. Body small, ovate, convex; mottled yellowish tan. Length (anterior of pronotum to apex of elytra) 2.19–2.88 mm. Head completely covered with depressed, light tan, ovoid scales; slight superantennal carinae; eyes surrounded by very narrow bare patch lacking scales dorsally, ventrally with scales slightly protruding; antennae stout, antennomeres densely covered in scales, setae increasingly fine toward apex, antennomeres 1–4 and 11 longer than wide, others subequal; labrum with scattered short erect orange setae apically; frons with elongate ligulate scales pointing mainly obliquely toward middle, especially prominent toward apex. Pronotum covered with densely matted setae, relatively few short, erect setae; medial cavity very deep, extending over half total length of pronotum, border well-defined except at middle anterior and posterior; two posterolateral cavities on each side deep and distinct, lateralmost cavities completely anterior to adjacent cavities. Elytra: Setation yellowish tan, speckled with dark brown in random somewhat clumped pattern, background color reddish brown; surface mostly covered in conical or flattened rectangular scales, some scales instead acutely pointed; basal 1/3 of anterolateral margin with row of long bristly setae; elytral carinae absent; ~4 rows of short erect setae on each elytron. Ventral Surface: Ventral part of pro-, meso-, and, metathorax, legs, and abdominal ventrites with appressed oval scales. Cordielytrum silvae, sp. n. (Fig. 3) Holotype: Peru: Ica Region, Lomas de San Fernando. 11–12.VI.2019, S15.13°, W75.31° dung pitfall traps, 1425 m K.A.Whorrall & T. K.Philips. This species is distinguished from its congeners by its relatively large size, the smooth appearance of its setation, its small bead-like scales, and its pale, brassy coloration. It can be distinguished from C. peruvianum by the larger depressions in elytral scales, more transverse pronotum, and less pronounced elytral carinae. Description. Body small, compact, subovate, convex; brass colored with a slight sheen. Length (anterior of pronotum to apex of elytra) 2.93–3.25 mm. Head completely covered with depressed, light tan, ovoid scales; pronounced superantennal carinae; antennae slender, antennomeres densely covered in scales, setae increasingly fine toward apex, antennomeres 1–4 and 11 slightly longer than wide, others subequal; clypeus distinct; labrum with short erect orange setae apically; frons with short ligulate scales pointing toward middle. Pronotum covered with densely matted setae, short, erect setae protruding from deep cavities within matted setation; medial cavity deep, broad, when viewed from above, extending nearly ½ total length, border well-defined laterally but indistinct medially, extending as a shallow groove anteriorly; two posterolateral cavities very shallow with indistinct borders. Elytra: Setation pale brassy tan, darker tan pattern medially, background color dark brown; densely covered in small, broad, ovate scales; basal ¼ of anterolateral margin with row of long bristly setae; four low longitudinal carinae extending length of each elytron, including one at suture; 4–5 rows of deep depressions between carinae. Ventral Surface: Prosternum and mesoventrite with matted scales somewhat similar to pronotum; remainder of ventral mesothorax, metathorax, legs, and abdominal ventrites with scales similar to elytra. Cordielytrum obscurum, sp. n. (Fig. 6) Holotype: Peru: Arequipa Reg, 16 km NW Matarani, 18–21.VI.2019 S16.8754° W72.1968°, 285 m dune veg, dung pitfalls K.A.Whorrall & T. K. Philips. Holotype has been deposited in MUSM. Paratypes (24): Same data as holotype. Paratypes have been deposited in MUSM, KAWC, TKPC, and JBHC. Diagnosis: This species is distinguished from most congeners by its relatively slender shape, the more rounded shape of its pronotum, the rough, disheveled appearance of its vestiture, and the tassel-like shape of some setae. It can be distinguished from C. fimbriatum (Fig. 5) by the longer and more filiform setae of the elytral humeral angles, narrower and more sparsely spaced scales of the elytra, and darker coloration. Description. Body small, ovate, convex; mottled dark brown. Length (anterior of pronotum to apex of elytra) 2.16–2.35 mm. Head completely covered with depressed, light tan, ovoid scales; pronounced superantennal carinae; antennae stout, antennomeres densely covered in scales, setae increasingly fine toward apex, antennomeres 1–4 and 11 longer than wide, others subequal; clypeus distinct; labrum with short erect orange setae apically; frons with elongate ligulate scales pointing toward middle, especially prominent toward apex. Pronotum covered with densely matted setae, relatively few short, erect setae protruding from deep cavities within matted setation; anteriorly depressed, especially laterally, with distinct frontal ridge; medial cavity very deep, extending over half total length of pronotum, border well-defined except at middle anterior and posterior; two posterolateral cavities on each side deep and distinct. Elytra: Setation mottled tan with darker brown patches, background color dark brown; surface sparsely covered in slender scoop-shaped setae, gaps between setae showing bare elytra; basal 1/3 of anterolateral margin with row of long setae, setae mostly simple, but some variably tassel-like; five low longitudinal carinae extending length of each elytron, including one at suture, each carina with one row of short tassel-like setae with highly branched apices. Ventral Surface: Ventral part of pro-, meso, and, metathorax, legs, and abdominal ventrites with scales similar to elytra. Etymology: The name “obscurum” is from the Latin word for dark, referring to the coloration of this species. Diagnosis: This species is distinguished from most congeners by the rough, disheveled appearance of its vestiture, and its unique scoop-shaped scales. The only two specimens are of notably small size, though this may not be representative of the true size variation within the species. It can be distinguished from C. fimbriatum (Fig. 5) and C. obscurum (Fig. 6) by the short erect filiform setae covering its body, its more convex shape, the dark bands on the carinae of its elytra, and the relatively large depressions in its elytral setation. The species can be distinguished from C. inca (Fig. 4) by the more rounded pronotum, larger scale size relative to the body, and much shorter setae at the humeral angles of the elytra. Description. Body very small, ovate, convex; mottled reddish brown with a slight sheen. Length (anterior of pronotum to apex of elytra) 1.81 mm. SPECIES REDESCRIPTION Body Color dark brown to black on head, pronotum, and elytra. Body small and elongate. Length 3.4 �� 0.33 mm (n = 3). Head (Fig. 2) Head covered in punctures, large shallow irregular and contiguous mediolaterally, medially finer, longitudinally elongate; scattered, white small appressed scales; antennae dark brown, antennomeres 1-8 with moderately dense white appressed scales, first antennomere largest, second small as long as wide, remaining antennomeres longer than wide. Pronotum Pronotum mostly smooth with very fine alutaceous sculpture, glabrous except anterior �� with round and elongate scattered punctures; pair of medial vertical ridges approximately broadly rounded from anterior to posterior dorsal edge, then declivous to base just past middle, short thin yellow setae scattered on top of ridges; three tubercles on each lateral edge, anterior tubercle rounded, middle concave triangular, somewhat ear-shaped, posterior tubercle small, pointed, recumbent clumped orange trichome setae on lateral edge in between and around tubercles; a broadly rounded U-shaped smooth impression; posterior margin of pronotum narrow anterior of scutellum. Elytra Elytral surface covered in rows of round to elongate punctures separately longitudinally by half or less their length, puncture rows separated by about 1.5-2.0 times their diameters, 1 st and 2nd rows slightly obliquely oriented, 3rd and 4th less so; humeral angles raised; scutellum triangular, lateral edges below elytral surface; interpuncture rows of small recumbent dull pale orange setae; white scales forming an irregular transverse band at anterior 1/3, extending medially in an irregular longitudinal band from anterior transverse band to posterior 1/3, lateral clump of setae on each elytron at about posterior 1/3, transverse band of setae at apex and sometimes extending anteriorly along suture. Ventrites Ventral surface reddish to dark brown, covered in small white appressed scales mostly covering surface; proventrite smooth, mesoventrite with irregularly shaped, glabrous indentation at middle; lateral edge of fourth ventrite and apical edge of fifth ventrite with scattered fine yellowish setae. Legs Legs reddish to dark brown, covered in white scales as on ventral surface; 1 st tarsomere longer than wide, others short in length and width, internal surface of tarsomeres covered in fine gold recumbent setae. Sexual dimorphism Antennomeres 6-11 in the maledistinctly more elongate compared to those seen in the female. Male genitalia with elongate narrow parameres with a thick median lobe that is about the same length as the parameres. DISCUSSION There is little doubt that Notaferrum n. gen. shares close common ancestry especially with Silisoptinus Pic, 1917 (see Bell��s 1988, 2009) and more distantly with Eutaphrimorphus Pic, 1898 (see Bell��s 1992). All three genera are hypothesized to compose a single monophyletic lineage based on the possession of a very distinct and similarly shaped large medial smooth and flattened U-shaped shallow depression with a broadly rounded posterior border located medially at the base of the pronotum. Further similarity in these three genera is the anteriorly expanded prosternum that covers in part the ventral portion of the head, a feature that may have evolved to help protect mouthparts, most likely from ants. There are additional taxa from the Americas and southeast Asia (e.g. Prosternoptinus Bell��s, 1985, and Sundaptinus Bell��s, 1991) that also share this feature but based on other characteristics are not closely related (Mynhardt et al. unpublished). Another similarity between Notaferrum n. gen. and Silisoptinus is the greatly reduced fourth abdominal ventrite (c. �� the length of the third). Further is the strong declivity on the third ventrite that slopes dramatically down to the fourth. In contrast, Eutaphrimorphus has a more typical spider beetle abdomen with the fourth reduced (c. half the length of the third) and the ventrites are all in roughly the same plane. Notable differences of Notaferrum n. gen. with the other two genera is the lack of two short knobs near the pronotal base positioned laterally. They are very pronounced in Eutaphrimorphus while in Silisoptinus they are smaller and of various shapes depending upon the species. Eutaphrimorphus has two additional knobs positioned more centrally as well. These additional projections are also seen in at least one species of Silisoptinus but are much less pronounced and relatively gently rounded. Both Notaferrum n. gen. and Silisoptinus also exhibit depression(s) on the ventral surface that are lacking in Eutaphrimorphus; in Notaferrum n. gen., it is located only on the metaventrite near the middle and is similar to at least two other species of Silisoptinus (Bell��s 1988) including one undescribed (Philips unpublished). But the two described species of Silisoptinus also have a single depression on the abdomen while two undescribed (Philips unpublished) have either only a single depression on the metaventrite or both very weakly developed depressions on both the metaventrite and abdomen. Silisoptinus species are known from the eastern side of the African continent (Zanzibar and Socotra Islands) as well as Ghana (Philips unpublished) while Eutaphrimorphus is known only from South Africa. Also possibly related to Notaferrum n. gen. is Dignomus Wollaston, 1862, and the flightless Pseudomezium Pic, 1897, with the latter representing a flightless Dignomus (Philips unpublished and see Smiley & Philips 2011). These genera together with Silisoptinus and Eutaphrimorphus may form a monophyletic clade or at least with some close common ancestry. Dignomus as currently defined has a diverse set of pronotal modifications (Bell��s 1996; Smith & Philips unpublished) and may not form a monophyletic clade. But the overall similarity of the pronotum having an anterior and posterior lobe laterally and without much lateral projection in both Notaferrum n. gen. and Dignomus (plus Pseudomezium) is notable. One other characteristic feature of the new genus is the presence of a transverse posterior pronotal groove of various degrees and shapes. Many other spider beetle taxa also possess a basal groove of various shapes including the African genera Eutaphrimorphus Pic, 1898, Silisoptinus Pic, 1917, Eutaphroptinus Borowski, 2009, Dignomus Wollaston, 1862, Pseudomezium Pic, 1897, Dignomorphus Borowksi, 2009, as well as some species of the non-African Ptinus (e.g. P. espanyoli Bell��s, 1997), Tropicoptinus Bell��s, 1998, and members of Trymolophus Bell��s, 1990. DISTRIBUTION Notaferrum natalensis n. gen., n. comb. is known only from KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa (Fig. 4). The current range is a little over 300 km in length, and all records are within 30 km of the coast.This distribution is within the Maputuland-Pondoland-Albany hotspot, one of three biodiversity hotspots in South Africa. Maputuland-Pondoland-Albany is notable in particular for its high plant endemism and is the second richest floristic region in South Africa (Myers et al. 2000). As the distribution of the weaver ant Oecophylla longinoda extends from Southern Africa through Eastern and Western Africa (Bolton 1995), one might expect the distribution of Notaferrum natalensis n. gen., n. comb. to be much larger. BIOLOGY Notaferrum natalensis n. gen., n. comb. is hypothesized to be a myrmecophile, as one individual was collected in a weaver ant nest (Oecophylla longinoda, Fig. 3B). There are no other spider beetles known to be associated with Oecophylla ants anywhere in the world. Only one other southern African genus appears to be a true symphile; Diplocotidus P��ringuey, 1899 includes three species currently known from South Africa and Namibia (Bell & Philips 2008). Unlike this new genus, species are wingless and found in arid or semiarid regions and are associated with ground nesting ants. DIAGNOSIS. ��� This genus can be recognized by the pair of longitudinal blade-like ridges located medially on the pronotum as well as a transverse, flattened, and U-shape depression with sides diverging anteriorly at the basal 2/5 of the pronotum. Cavoptinus palawanicus nov.sp. (Figs 1 a-d) T y p e m a t e r i a l: Holotype (♁): Philippines, Palawan, San Vicente, October 2019, local collector. Holotype deposited in coll. J. Háva (Jiří Háva, Private Entomological Laboratory & Collection, Únětice u Prahy, Prague-West, Czech Republic). D e s c r i p t i o n: Male. Longly oval, slightly transversally convex, body length 3.2 mm, greatest width 1.2 mm (Fig. 1a). Piceous black, antennae, palpi and legs dark brown, brown setation erect and long, grey setation recumbent and short. Head slightly convex, shiny, finely and densely punctuate, punctures almost touched, with intermixed grey and brown setation, on vertex sparser. Eyes relatively large, globular, glabrous. On front between eyes with a few long erect setae. Palpi dark brown. Antennae consist of eleven antennomeres, filiform, without antennal club (Fig. 1c). All antennomeres with dense, long semi-erect, brown setae. Pronotum slightly longitudinal (Fig. 1b). Sides of pronotum parallel (from dorsal view), in the middle slightly narrowed. Disc of pronotum with short, very narrow, longitudinal depression. The posterior part of pronotum with depression with long grey setae, posteriorly sharpened. Surface of pronotum shiny, finely punctuate. Part of surface covered with short grey setae (especially on border of depression) and with long dense erect, brown setae, especially on border of pronotum. Scutellum triangular, covered densely by grey setae. Elytra parallel, obtusely ended, with distinct shoulders, shiny, with long erect, brown setae and short grey setae. Each elytron with tenth striae consisting of large, longitudinal punctures. Interstriae narrower than striae. Each elytron with one humeral spots of grey setae and the posterior third quarter of grey setation. Legs dark brown, slim, covered with intermixed yellow and white setation, femur more robust. Tibiae as long as tarsi. All tarsomeres short and wide, slightly emarginate. Claws large, without teeth. Metasternum covered with grey setation, with longitudinal suture, inclined anteriorly from base (Fig. 2a). Male genitalia see Fig. 1d. Female: unknown. A new genus of flightless spider beetle from Peru with two new species is described. It is characterized by unique heart-shaped fused elytra and a broad pronotum with five basal depressions. The characters of this new genus and species are illustrated and discussed and the possible phylogenetic placement of this taxon is also included.

Dignomus irroratus (Kiesenwetter, 1852) (Ptinidae) (Fig. 1a) • 1 ex., Chamoson (VS), 16.7.– 11.8.2015, 630 m, leg. & coll. A. Sanchez, det. Y. Chittaro, rev. B. Calmont. Aucun spécimen valide de cette espèce n’existant à notre connaissance dans les collections muséales et privées de Suisse consultées, la capture de cet individu constitue sa première mention suisse. L’individu a été récolté au moyen d’un piège d’interception placé dans une chênaie pubescente, en bordure de pelouse steppique. Cette espèce, répandue en Europe centrale et méditerranéenne, remonte en France le Rhône jusqu’à Lyon seulement (Calmont 2016). Sa capture en Valais est dès lors extrêmement intéressante. L’écologie de l’espèce est encore partiellement méconnue. Néanmoins, il semblerait que l’adulte se rencontre sous les écorces, dans les cavités d’arbres et sur les lierres morts ou dépérissants, et parfois sous les pierres à proximité de bergeries (Calmont 2016). Data from the literature and from specimens preserved at the Colección Nacional de Insectos (CNIN) Instituto de Biología, UNAM were used to compile a checklist of the fauna of Coleoptera of the state of Morelos, México. A sum of 70 families, 167 subfamilies, 361 tribes, 1,022 genera, and 2,606 species are recorded; from this 24 species are new records for Morelos. The State of Morelos ranks fourth in Coleoptera species richness for Mexico, following Veracruz (3,176 spp.), Oaxaca (2,148 spp.) and Chiapas (1,734 spp.). The checklist presented here provides a summary that can serve as a basis for future progress in the knowledge of Mexican Coleoptera.

This paper treats 134 new records of Coleoptera for the province of New Brunswick, Canada from the following 41 families: Gyrinidae, Carabidae, Dytiscidae, Histeridae, Leiodidae, Scarabaeidae, Scirtidae, Buprestidae, Elmidae, Limnichidae, Heteroceridae, Ptilodactylidae, Eucnemidae, Throscidae, Elateridae, Lampyridae, Cantharidae, Dermestidae, Bostrichidae, Ptinidae, Cleridae, Melyridae, Monotomidae, Cryptophagidae, Silvanidae, Laemophloeidae, Nitidulidae, Endomychidae, Coccinellidae, Corylophidae, Latridiidae, Tetratomidae, Melandryidae, Mordellidae, Tenebrionidae, Mycteridae, Pyrochroidae, Aderidae, Scraptiidae, Megalopodidae, and Chrysomelidae. Among these, the following four species are newly recorded from Canada: Dirrhagofarsus ernae Otto, Muona & McClarin (Eucnemidae), Athous equestris (LeConte) (Elateridae), Ernobius opicus Fall (Ptinidae), and Stelidota coenosa Erichson (Nitidulidae). The Family Limnichidae is newly reported for New Brunswick, and one species is added to the fauna of Nova Scotia. Stephostethus productus Rosenhauer (Latridiidae), Tetratoma (Abstrulia) variegata Casey (Tetratomidae), and Chauliognathus marginatus (Fabricius) (Cantharidae) are removed from the faunal list of New Brunswick, and additional records of Lacconotus punctatus LeConte (Mycteridae) are presented and discussed. Lindgren funnel traps provided specimens for 104 (78%) of the species and were the sole source of specimens for 89 (66%) of the species reported here, suggesting they are a very useful tool for sampling Coleoptera fauna in the forests of New Brunswick.

Nine new species of the genus Clada (s. str.) Pascoe, 1887 (Bostrichoidea: Ptinidae: Eucradinae) are described from Madagascar: Clada (Clada) barclayisp. n., C. (C.) dimbyisp. n., C. (C.) fasciatasp. n., C. (C.) lalaesp. n., C. (C.) madagascarensissp. n., C. (C.) mamyisp. n., C. (C.) njakaisp. n., C. (C.) obesasp. n., and C. (C.) rindraisp. n. No species of this genus were previously known from Madagascar. Photographs of the dorsal habiti and drawings the male and female antennae and aedeagi of most of these species are given.

Dignomus francescovitalii sp. nov. (Figs 1���6) Type material. Holotype: collection number 1045-1b [CCHH], adult, probably a male. A practically complete beetle (right protarsus lacking) with partially exposed genitalia, included in a small, transparent yellow amber piece embedded in block of GTS-polyester resin with overall dimensions 9��9�� 4 mm. Syninclusions: one stellate Fagaceae trichome. Type strata. Baltic amber, Ypresian to Priabonian, Eocene, 56��33.9 Ma. Type locality. Baltic Sea coast, the Samland Peninsula, the Kaliningrad Region, Russia. Etymology. Patronymic, this new species is dedicated to our colleague and leading researcher of amber Cerambycidae, Dr. Francesco Vitali (Luxembourg). Description. Body length 2.3 mm, maximum width about 1.4 mm; body shape ovoid; body color (as preserved) unicolorous black. Head hypognathous, turned downwards and not visible in dorsal view, evenly convex; frons with sparse erect setae, and with transverse row of erect setae above antennal pits; vertex glabrous, shiny and apparently impunctate; antennal pits contiguous, interantennal space with a sharp, narrow carina. Compound eyes relatively small, hemispherical, convex, entire, with well differentiated facets, apparently without ommatidial setae; distance between compound eyes nearly equal to 1.6�� diameter of one eye. Antennae filiform, with eleven antennomeres, exceeding in length half of the elytra; densely pubescent and with sparse, semierect setae, except antennomere 11 which has only short and recumbent pubescence; scape subcylindrical, robust, about 2�� as wide and 1.3�� as long as pedicel, antennomeres 2���10 subequal in shape and size, elongate, slightly dilated apically, antennomere 11 spindle-shaped; relative length ratios of antennomeres 1��� 11 equal to 10-6-6-6 -6-7- 7-7-7-8-12. Last maxillary palpomere cylindrical. Pronotum slightly transverse, about 1.15�� as wide as long; with distinct constriction in posterior one-fourth; covered with small punctures, each puncture bearing seta; with elevated discal protuberance widely divided medially by longitudinal groove, protuberance becoming concave postero-medially and narrowly reflexed at lateral sides, which show an acute, triangular, small projection; whole pronotum with small dense granules and semierect setae, distance between granules being less than the diameter of one granule; two lateral sides of discal protuberance with very dense, long, rufous hairs. Scutellum small, slightly transverse, semioval, densely pubescent. Elytra sub-ovoid, convex, about 1.2�� as long as wide, with visible humeral calli; each elytron with five small spots of rufous scale-like hairs: three round shaped spots at elytral base, and two oval shaped spots on disc. Elytral punctures small, arranged in 10 striae that extend along entire length of elytron, punctures round to oval showing medial constriction (punctures of striae 9���10); intervals flat, with sparse heterogeneous pubescence. Pro-, meso- and metathotax densely pubescent, with moderately large, deep, round punctures; prosternal intercoxal process wide, about 0.7�� as wide as diameter of procoxa, slightly convex, with lateral margins parallel; metathoracic ventrite almost flat, medially and slightly convex laterally, distance between punctures distinctly larger than diameter of one puncture; metepisternum about 3.9�� as long as wide, with row of punctures at interior lateral margin, slightly widened anteriorly and gradually narrowed posteriorly, anterior margin oblique, lateral margins nearly straight. Legs long, moderately robust, densely pubescent. Procoxae subglobose, separated by about 0.7�� procoxal diameter; mesocoxae subglobose, distinctly separated by almost one mesocoxal diameter; metacoxae narrow, transverse, with groove for reception of metafemora. Femora clavate, with few erect setae ventro-apically. Tibiae almost straight, slightly dilated apically, nearly as long as tibia. Tarsi poorly visible because of beetle location in amber piece; metatarsi about 0.6�� as long as metatibia. Claws thin, free and simple. Abdomen with five visible ventrites, densely pubescent, with sparse, fine semierect setae (distinctly visible on ventrite 5), sparsely punctured (punctures distinctly smaller than metathoratic punctures); abdominal sutures distinct in all their length; relative length (laterally) ratios of ventrites 1���5 equal to 10-12-10-5-8. Genitalia exposed but poorly defined, although apparently corresponding to male aedeagus with median lobe and parameres slender and symmetrical, as usual in extant species of the genus Dignomus (see Bell��s 1996). Diagnosis. Dignomus francescovitalii sp. nov. assigned to Dignomus irroratus species-group based on a combination of the following morphological characters (sensu Bell��s 1996): the structure of pronotum with discal protuberance showing subparallel sides, convex but not very elevated, widely divided medially by longitudinal groove, and with triangular lateral projections located behind the discal protuberance in lateral view. The characteristic sub-ovoid elytra clearly distinguishes this new species from others of the group. Only D. subelongatus (Pic, 1917) from East Africa (Somalia) has similar sub-ovoid elytra, but differs from new species by pronotum with discal protuberance more elevated and elytra more elongated. Dignomus francescovitalii sp. nov. distinctly differs from D. regiomontanus (described from a Baltic amber) in pronotal structure: the latter species has pronotum with discal longitudinal protrusion flanked by groove on each side, but in new species pronotum with elevated discal protuberance widely divided medially by longitudinal groove, protuberance becoming concave postero-medially and narrowly reflexed at lateral sides. Dignomus francescovitalii sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on a well-preserved specimen from Eocene Baltic amber. This new extinct species is placed into D. irroratus species-group. The distribution of the genus Dignomus including fossil records is mapped.

Anitys rubens (J. J. Hoffmann, 1803) (Ptinidae, Dorcatominae) (Fig. 2b) – 1 ex. (mort) et nombreuses larves, Orvin (BE), 876 m, 5.4.2017, leg., det. & coll. Tous les exemplaires ont été découverts dans la carie sèche du tronc d’un vieux chêne (Fig 4a) en bordure d’un pâturage boisé. Ils étaient localisés sur une petite surface d’environ 10 x 10 cm de carie sèche pulvérulente rougeâtre, issue de l’activité du polypore Laetiporus sulphureus, située environ 1 cm sous la surface du tronc (Figs 4b, c). De nombreux Pentaphyllus testaceus (Hellwig, 1792) (Tenebrionidae) colonisaient ce même habitat, troué de galeries larvaires, alors que plusieurs Mycetophagus piceus (Fabricius, 1777) (Mycetophagidae) se trouvaient à quelques centimètres de distance. Hemicoelus favonii sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Eocene Baltic amber. This new fossil species differs from extant congeners in having 11-segmented antennae; a metathoracic ventrite with large impression in its anterior portion; a pronotum distinctly narrower than the elytral base region; the posterior suture of abdominal ventrite 1 weakly arcuate medially; sharp lateral pronotal margins that are incomplete and distinct in their basal half only; elytral striae that are not grouped in pairs; posterior pronotal angles that are rounded; elytral intestriae 3, 5, 7 and 9 that are distinctly convex; and a comparatively small total body size. The presence of Hemicoelus in Baltic amber suggests that moist, rotting wood was available as a microhabitat in the ancient forest. Beyond the new species description, the systematic placement of Anobium jacquelinae Hawkeswood, Makhan & Turner is discussed. A new fossil record for Microbregma waldwico Bukejs & Alekseev, and the first report of the genus Trichodesma LeConte from Eocene Baltic amber are also presented.

This study was conducted as a part of a comprehensive baseline survey of insect biodiversity of Rawdhat Khorim National Park (RKNP), Central Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). During this study a total of 262 Coleoptera species belong to 182 genera in 35 families were identified, of which 247 are named at a species level. Fifteen species (6.0%) are apparently endemic to KSA. Thirty-eight species are new to the known beetle fauna of KSA, including 25 species reported from the Arabian Peninsula for the first time. The families Tenebrionidae (45 species), Scarabaeidae (34 species), and Carabidae (27 species) were the most species rich families. About 37% of the beetle abundance was represented by species of Scarabaeidae, especially Aphodius ictericus ghardimaouensis Balthasar. Karumia inaequalis Pic (Dascillidae) was also an abundant species. Approximately 43.5% of beetle species collected during this study are considered very rare taxa in RKNP. The RKNP beetle fauna shows more affinity to Sahro-Arabian (36.4%), Afrotropical-Sahro-Arabian (17.4%) and Palaearctic-Sahro-Arabian (10.5%). Twenty-three species (9.3%) are considered cosmopolitan or subcosmopolitan. The data on month of collection, method of collection, and abundance status within RKNP, together with the distribution within KSA and the general distribution (zoogeography) of each species are presented.

Sucinoptinus brevipennis sp. n. M a t e r i a l. Holotype. Possibly male. SIZK D-2295, Dubrovitsa, Rovno amber, Late Eocene (fig. 1, 2). Syninclusions: Mycetophilidae, Acari (Parasitengona), numerose stellate hairs. D e s c r i p t i o n. Length: 1.6 mm. Slender, parallel-sided; color brownish-piceus (fig. 1, 2). Head finely punctuated and pubescent; interantennal space narrow and rather flat; eyes hemispherical, quite prominent and finely faceted. Antennae eleven segmented, slender and long, slightly longer than the elytral length, covered with semierect pubescence; antennomere proportions according to the formula: 7–3–4–4–4–4–4–4–4.5–5–8.5 (fig. 1, 2). Pronotum slightly longer than wide and wider than a single elytron; apical margin widely convex anteriorly, partially concealing the head; sides slightly rounded, only slightly constricted near the base, moderately convex at the disk and showing a quite apparent transversal depression in the posterior third; surface irregularly sculptured in the anterior third, with round, small tubercles in the disk, and with small elongated tubercles in the posterior third transversal depression; pubescence formed by short semi-recumbent hairs evenly distributed (fig. 1, 2). Legs short and robust covered with short recumbent pubescence; tarsi relatively long, nearly as long as tibiae; mesotarsi with tarsomere proportions according to the formula: 5–1.5–1.5–1–5. Scutellum triangular, as long as wide. Elytra subparallel and short, only slightly longer than twice the length of the pronotum; humeri prominent; elytral surface serially punctuated by elongated strial punctures, leaving an interstriae interval about twice wider as the width of the striae; pubescence formed by semirecumbent short setae inserted in the punctures (with a length similar to that of the puncture) and erect and moderately long (somewhat longer than those of the punctures) setae inserted in the intervals (fig. 1, 2). Sucinoptinus rovnoensis sp. n. M a t e r i a l. Holotype. Possibly female, only thorax and elytra present. SIZK UA-335, Rovno amber, Late Eocene. D e s c r i p t i o n. Length (pronotum plus elytra): 1.5 mm. Relatively robust, roundedsided; color brownish (fig. 1, 1). Pronotum slightly wider than long and neatly wider than a single elytron; apical margin widely convex anteriorly; sides only slightly rounded, practically not constricted near the base, moderately convex at the disk and showing a quite apparent semicircular depression in the posterior third; surface covered with dense tubercles, oval and large, specially within the semicircular depression, where they are almost as large as half the size of the scutellum; pubescence formed by short semi-recumbent hairs inserted between the tubercles (fig. 1, 1). Scutellum triangular, as long as wide. Elytra slightly roundsided and relatively short, 1.35 as long as wide, but clearly longer than twice the length of the pronotum; humeri prominent; elytral surface serially punctuated by elongated strial punctures, leaving an interstriae interval about twice wider as the width of the striae; pubescence formed by recumbent short setae inserted in the punctures (with a length somewhat longer that the puncture), semirecumbent and moderately long (somewhat longer than those of the punctures) setae inserted in the intervals and evenly distributed, and erect and still longer setae sparsely distributed in the interstriae of the apical part (fig. 1, 1). D i a g n o s t i c c h a r a c t e r s. The new species is similar to S. bukejsi, from amber inclusions found at Yantarny (formerly Palmnicken) in the Kaliningrad region, Russia (Alekseev, 2012) in having the same general structure of pronotum and elytra, but differing from this species by the morphology of the pronotum, with sides only slightly rounded and practically not constricted near the base, whereas that of S. bukejsi has the sides well rounded leaving a slight but clear constriction near the base. Moreover, the semicircular depression of the posterior third of the pronotal disk of S. rovnoensis is not present in S. bukejsi, which shows a regularly convex pronotal disk, with a depression in the posterior third only slightly marked. The large tubercles forming the surface of the semicircular depression of S. rovnoensis are neither present in S. bukejsi, which shows a type of tubercles smaller and evenly distributed. S. sucini Bellés et Vitali (2007) also has a semicircular depression in the posterior third of the pronotal disk, but it is narrower and the tubercles of the sculpture within it are much smaller and rounded in shape. Sucinoptinus sp.? M a t e r i a l. Two specimens, SIZK UA-284, Rovno amber, Late Eocene and SIZK K-6067, Klesov, Rovno amber, Late Eocene. The inclusion labeled UA-284 contains a well recognizable spider beetle belonging to the genus Sucinoptinus sp. The specimen is practically complete except the antennae and parts of the legs, but its orientation in the inclusion makes difficult a specific identification. However, it looks like a S. rovnoensis, but with the typical semicircular depression on the posterior third of the pronotum somewhat deeper, and with the strial punctures of the elytra somewhat broader, which leave the interstriae intervals only slightly wider than the punctures (fig. 1, 3). The specimen SIZK K-6067 is also practically complete, but again the orientation makes difficult a complete identification.
