This article discusses the life and works of psychiatrist Alois Alzheimer presented at the 100 centennial conference held on November 3 to 6, 2006 in Tübingen, Germany. Alzheimer's family background is offered. Alzheimer believes that mental diseases are brain diseases and published papers ranging from arteriosclerotic atrophy of the brain to progressive paralysis. He also conducted several studies on mental illness until his death in 1915.

This article looks at the initial investigations by early psychiatrists on Alzheimer's disease (AD) since 1906. At the 37th convention of Southwestern German psychiatrists held in Munich, Germany, psychiatrist Alois Alzheimer presented initial images of brain damages of AD patients. Progress in the study of the disease until 2007 is discussed. Conferences were also held in pursuit of AD prevention and cure.
