The article presents a study which assesses the nature and characteristics of lakes in New Zealand relative to the factors, which affect the application of technologies for internal phosphorus (P) loads management within individual lakes. The methods used to minimize P release from sediments include physical approaches and geochemical approaches. It examines a decision-support risk assessment framework that helps managers in developing appropriate strategies to reduce and control internal P loads.
