In order to more comprehensively analyze the visual effect of different areas of the guide sign layout, a "Chinese character plate height ratio" is proposed to characterize the coupling relationship between the height of the Chinese characters on the sign board and the height of the sign board. From the perspective of the recognition characteristics, the region of interest on the sign layout is divided. The conditional generalized variance minimization method is used to screen the low-relevant visual indicators as evaluation indicators. The principal component analysis method is used to establish the comprehensive evaluation index of different driving speeds and draw the trend chart of visual effect. Studies have shown that the trend of visual effect on the left side of the sign board is opposite to that on the middle and right sides, and the visual effect on the right side is higher than which on the middle side; at a driving speed of 50 km/h, the overall visual effect of the sign layout is higher, and the recognition time is least affected by the Chinese character plate height ratio.
