In this study, the isothermal and cyclic corrosion behaviours of Haynes 282 and Haynes 214 in a lithium molten salt were investigated at 650°C for 168 h and 7 thermal cycles, respectively; this was achieved by measuring the mass changes, surface and cross-sectional morphologies with their elemental distributions, and compositional changes in the subscale, substrate and spalled oxide scale. The weight loss of Haynes 282 comprising an external corrosion layer was approximately four times lower than that of Haynes 214 with a spalled external corrosion layer, depending on the effects of their alloying elements and the preservation, spallation and dissolution of the corrosion layer. After 168 h and 7 thermal cycles, corrosion products of Haynes 282 were Cr2O3 and CoCr2O4 and those of Haynes 214 were Cr2O3, LiFeO2 and FeCr2O4. In addition, the internal corrosion layers of Haynes 282 and Haynes 214 exhibited localised and uniform corrosion behaviours, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The fabrication of high-quality metallic powders has been attracted considerable attention in terms of producing advanced materials through additive manufacturing (AM) technology. The efficiency of AM products mainly dependent on the initial powder, therefore, characterisation of pre-alloyed powders become important. In this study, we explored the fabrication of Al0.5CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) powders by gas atomisation process and investigated their powder characteristics according to particle size distribution. X-ray diffraction results revealed the formation of major face-centred cubic and minor body-centred cubic phase by the addition of Al content. The detailed characterisations such as scanning electron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy and XPS analysis was carried out to examine the chemical composition of HEA powders. The relationship between secondary dendrite arm spacing and cooling rate was evaluated. The results demonstrated that produced alloy powders are spherical in shape with smooth surfaces, compositional homogeneity, indicating the gas-atomised powders are widely acceptable for additive manufacturing applications. Abstract: This study investigated the preparation of copper–indium bimetallic nanoparticles through the borohydride reduction in an alcohol solution for application in ink-coating and sputtering target materials. Copper, indium metal and copper–indium intermetallic materials were synthesized by reacting CuCl2 and InCl3 with NaBH4 in 2-propanol (IPA) and tetraethylene glycol (TEG) at room temperature. The Cu–In samples contained Cu2In and CuIn phases with particle sizes of 10–100nm and 30–200nm in both the IPA and TEG solutions, respectively. The nanoparticulate Cu–In precursor layer was coated onto a soda-lime glass through spin-casting, where the Cu–In intermetallic phases of Cu2In and Cu11In9 were produced through heat treatment in Ar gas and a microstructured CuInSe2 layer was produced in a selenium atmosphere. The purpose of this work is to quantify the effects of dissolved zinc cations on corrosion and release rates from a pre-filmed Alloy 690 steam generator tubing material that was subsequently exposed to water containing zinc. The corrosion tests were performed in circulating 2 ppm Li and 1000 ppm B water without and with 60 ppb zinc at 330 °C. Gravimetric analyses and oxide characterization revealed that the corrosion rates, release rates, and oxide thicknesses decreased by subsequent exposure of the pre-filmed Alloy 690 to zinc. The harsh atmosphere of the sulfur–iodine process used for producing hydrogen requires better corrosion resistance and mechanical properties than are possible to obtain with pure tantalum. Ta–W alloy is superior to pure tantalum but is difficult to alloy due to its high melting temperature. In this study, substrate samples were coated with Ta–W (Ta–7W, Ta–4W and Ta–1W) using the Multi-Anode Reactive alloy Coating (MARC) process in molten salt (LiF–NaF–K 2 TaF 7 ), with varying distances between cathode and anode. In the case of Ta–4W, a corrosion rate of less than 0.011 mm/year was attained in hydriodic acid at 160 °C, and thickness uniformity was 80.3 ± 2.15 μm. Also, the resulting coated films had hardnesses up to 12.9% stronger than pure tantalum coated film. The alloy coating films also contributed to significant enhancement of corrosion resistance. Abstract: Hot corrosion studies were performed on superalloy specimens. The IN713LC superalloy were sprayed with an aluminized NiCrAlY-bond coat and then with an yttria–zirconia top coat. The bare superalloy reveals an obvious weight loss due to spalling of the scales by the rapid scale growth and thermal stress. The top coatings showed a much better hot corrosion resistance in the presence of LiCl–3 wt.% Li2O molten salt when compared with those of the bare superalloy and the aluminized bond coatings. These coatings have been found to be beneficial for increasing hot corrosion resistance of structural materials for lithium molten salts. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Coherent precipitates hardening is currently emerging strengthening mechanism of the various high entropy alloys (HEAs). Recently, CrMnFeCoNiAl x HEAs have been studied to show a phase transition from face-centered-cubic (FCC) to body-centered-cubic (BCC) and formation of coherent precipitates (B2-NiAl) within the BCC matrix. The coherent precipitates in the CrMnFeCoNiAl x alloys could contribute to increase the strength but lead to considerable reduction of the ductility. The present work systematically investigated a series of CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 Ti x alloys to further improve the strength and plasticity, as compared to the previously reported CrMnFeCoNiAl x HEAs. As a result, an increase of Ti addition leads to the phase transition from FCC to BCC and formation of lamellar structure and hierarchical precipitates reinforced by B2-NiAl and L2 1 -Ni 2 TiAl phases. Excellent mechanical properties were achieved from CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 Ti 0.1 and CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 Ti 0.2 alloys. The mechanical properties of the CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 Ti x alloys were discussed via theoretical strengthening mechanisms. • The addition of Ti content in CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 alloy leads to formation of hierarchical precipitates. • The excellent mechanical properties of CrMnFeCoNiAl 0.5 Ti x alloys is mainly contributed by B2/L2 1 hierarchical precipitates. • Precipitation hardening could be a governing strengthening mechanism for both CrMnFeCoNiAl0.5Ti0.2 and CrMnFeCoNiAl0.6 HEAs. • High-temperature corrosion mechanism of Kanthal alloy in molten silver is proposed. • The corrosion behavior showed that the gas region was more severe than the liquid region. • There were some entrapped porosities in the gas region, but not in the liquid region. • The corrosion products were Al 2 O 3 and FeAl 2 O 4 in gas, whereas only Al 2 O 3 appeared in liquid region. The high-temperature corrosion behaviors of Kanthal alloy for an anode current-collector were investigated at 1150 °C in molten silver under an oxidizing atmosphere. The hot corrosion products of Kanthal alloy in the gas section were Al 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 and FeAl 2 O 4 obtained after 1 d and 3, 5, and 7 d, respectively. Contrarily, only Al 2 O 3 was identified in the liquid silver section. Isolated patches were observed beneath the outer oxide layer in the gas section, whereas there was no evidence of these in the liquid silver section, and a cohesive Ag-rich layer beneath the oxide layer was shown to retard the corrosion by acting as an effective barrier.
