A simple and efficient protocol for the synthesis of Nβ-Fmoc/Z-amino alkyl thiols is described. The approach uses sodium pyrosulfite-mediated hydrolysis of isothiouronium salts resulting from the reaction between N-protected aminoalkyl iodides and thiourea.
