1D and 2D NMR techniques were used to assign fully the spectra of three aspidofractinine alkaloids, kopsine (1), fruticosamine (2) and fruticosine (3), isolated from a cultivated specimen of the plant Kopsia fruticosa (Apocynaceae). The assignment of the NMR data for 1, 2 and 3 will help in the future assignments of related alkaloids., (Copyright 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)

Two new pyridoacridine alkaloids, kuanoniamines E and F, and a new ring-opened pyridoacridine alkaloid, subarine, were isolated from a Singaporean ascidian. Also isolated were known pyridoacridine alkaloids ascididemin and kuanoniamines A and D. The structures of the alkaloids were determined by spectroscopic methods.

Crude MeOH extracts from the stem bark and leaves of a Panamanian specimen of Albizia adinocephala (Leguminosae) were found to inhibit the malarial enzyme plasmepsin II. Bioassay guided fractionation led to the isolation of two new bioactive spermine alkaloids, budmunchiamines L4 and L5.

The crude extract of the broth of Aspergillus ochraceus was found to inhibit the final stage of polyprotein processing during hepatitis C virus replication. Bioassay-guided fractionation led to the isolation of the known compound mellein as the active component of the extract. Also isolated were circumdatin F and a new alkaloid, circumdatin G. The structure of circumdatin G was determined by spectroscopic analysis.

Triunia erythrocarpa was identified as containing alkaloids during chemical screening of Queensland Proteaceae using Dragendorff's reagent. A new tropane, 10-hydroxydarlingine (1), and the known tropane, darlingine (2), were isolated from the leaves of T. erythrocarpa. The absolute stereochemistry of 10-hydroxydarlingine (1) was assigned using the advanced Mosher method. T. erythrocarpa is only the seventh member of the Proteaceae to have been shown to produce alkaloids.
