Two new pseudo-commutativity results are presented. These are used first to equivalently represent time-delayed multivariable systems having a combination of input, plant and output delays, in terms of a delay-free portion and a portion containing either equivalent purely input delays or purely output delays. Second, a new method is presented for determining a state space description for a given delay-free multivariable transfer function matrix. Finally, using a generalisation of the Smith predictor-controller, the pseudo-commutativity results enable multivariable Smith predictor-controllers to be designed for a larger class of time-delayed processes than before.
