Ferroptosis is a novel mechanism of programmed cell death characterized by an iron overload-induced lipid peroxidation cascade. The incidence of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is rising globally, contributing to markedly high morbidity and mortality. ALD pathogenesis is an intricate and continuously evolving process. Several basic and clinical investigations have established a correlation between ferroptosis and ALD initiation and progression. Additionally, anti-ferroptosis drugs have demonstrated effectiveness in ameliorating alcohol-induced liver injury. This review aims to provide an overview of recent advancements in ferroptosis research pertaining to ALD, encompassing imbalance of antioxidant systems, iron overload, autophagy, mitochondria, epigenetic changes, and prospective therapeutic drugs targeting ferroptosis.
