Objectives: To describe the sexual behaviors and practices of Spanish adolescents and young adults according to gender. Method: Information was gathered by means of a questionnaire administered in participants' homes in the presence of an interviewer. A random sample was used, consisting of 2,171 adolescents and young adults of both sexes, ranging in age from 14 to 24 years old. The participants were from three distinct regions of Spain: Galicia, Madrid, and Andalusia. Results: A total of 1,439 participants (66.3%) reported having been sexually active in the previous 6 months, with no statistically significant differences between male (66.4%) and female (66.2%) respondents. However, significant differences were found between males and females in the following variables: anal intercourse was reported by a higher proportion of males than females, the number of sexual partners reported by females was lower than that reported by males and the frequency of vaginal intercourse reported by females was higher than that reported by males. Condom use in anal intercourse and oral sex was more frequently reported by males than by females. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that sexual behavior differs between genders, with females having a lower number of sexual partners and more frequently using a condom in vaginal intercourse but less frequently in oral sex and anal intercourse. In view of these data, we believe that gender should be taken into account when designing and implementing preventive interventions.

SAFE sex in AIDS prevention , *BEHAVIORAL assessment , *DATA analysis , *AIDS , *HIV infections , *HEALTH risk assessment - Abstract
AIDS is currently pictured as a pandemic that has brought multiple transformations in the concepts and behaviors of individuals. The objective of this study was to identify aspects of sexual behavior in carriers of HIV in relation with the use of condoms, from a gender perspective. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were utilized for data gathering. The thematic analysis technique, with a content analysis approach was utilized for data analysis. The results highlight that perception of AIDS occurs, mostly, after symptomology of the opportunistic disease; there is decreased libido and sexual valorization after HIV contamination; gender relations are constantly intertwined in the sexual experience; the lives of seropositive people are permeated by ambiguous feelings about their current condition; awareness about the importance of condoms to practice safe sex, in most of the interviewees, only happens after the discovery of infection. The results demonstrate the need for care that reaches people who appear more vulnerable to HIV infection, providing them with the right to obtain concrete information to allow them to choose freely regarding changes in their sexual behavior standards. It is reasonable to highlight the importance of educational practices that raise awareness about the proper and conscious use of condoms, even though this method is known to have flaws, but it is still the only one that is proven to minimize the risk of HIV infection. RELIGION , *AIDS , *CONDOMS , *BELIEF & doubt , *HUMAN sexuality - Abstract
Religions, as institutions, promote a set of values, instructions, and ideologies that influence the behavior of people. Therefore, it is interesting to know how adolescents who practice the following religions: The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, The Catholic Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Jehovah's Witnesses, conceive the topic of Aids. A qualitative methodology was used to conduct in-depth interviews with students who actively profess one of these religions. Results show that the four groups claim they would receive people who live with HIV and conceive Aids as a sickness acquired by having sexual relationships. Only the group of Jehovah's Witnesses pay attention to blood transfusion, and so, they forbid it. Only The Seventhday Adventist Church group mentions they agree with the use of condoms and only the Jehovah's Witnesses group does not show disagreement with the precepts of its religion.
