The article presents the experience of a former farm kid. She was a farmer's daughter, raised on a hundred acres of corn and cow pasture, full of facts about the ruminants four stomachs, the average length of a cow's gestation. She states that later her father sold the farm, overgrown with bull-brier and wild roses, and bought a house in the neighborhood. The boys in her senior literature class were trading tales of conquest as she explained the feudal system but found that no one seemed bothered by the fact. But Andrew, who no doubt drank as much milk in a 24-hour period as a 2-year-old heifer produces daily for a first calf, needed to know this truth.
