Background: Gender dysphoria among transgender adolescents has predominantly been examined in relation to body dissatisfaction. While in adult transgender samples, body dissatisfaction is higher than in cisgender controls, this has so far rarely been investigated for adolescents. In the context of a cisnormative society, the impact of influences from the social environment on body dissatisfaction and gender dysphoria has been neglected in research. Therefore, this study aimed to (1) provide a detailed analysis of body dissatisfaction among young transgender people and (2) investigate whether body dissatisfaction and gender dysphoria are associated with experiences of minority stress such as trans hostility and poor peer relations (PPR). Methods: The paper presents a cross-sectional study among a sample of transgender adolescents, presenting at a specialized outpatient counseling clinic (N = 99; age M = 15.36, SD = 1.85). First, body dissatisfaction (assessed by the Body-Image-Scale; BIS), was explored and compared to data from a population-based control group of cisgender peers (N = 527; age M = 14.43, SD = 0.97). Second, within a clinic-referred transgender subsample (n = 74), associations between body dissatisfaction and gender dysphoria (measured by Utrecht Gender Dysphoria Scale; UGDS), PPR (measured by the Youth-Self-Report; YSR-R), and trans hostile experiences (assessed in clinical interview) were examined by correlations, t-tests and multivariate regression. Results: Transgender adolescents reported more body dissatisfaction than cisgender peers. The dissatisfaction with sex characteristics, non-hormonal reactive body regions and the total score for body dissatisfaction were positively related with gender dysphoria. The majority had experienced trans hostility in the present and/or past (54.1%) and PPR (63.5%). More body dissatisfaction was correlated with more PPR regarding visible body parts i.e., hair, overall appearance and muscles, whilst PPR and gender dysphoria were not associated. Transgender adolescents who experienced trans hostility showed higher gender dysphoria and PPR, but not more body dissatisfaction. In multiple regression, trans hostility predicted gender dysphoria, whilst age and PPR predicted body dissatisfaction. Discussion: Experiences of minority-stress differentially interact with body dissatisfaction and gender dysphoria among transgender adolescents. Background: Nurses are exposed to declining work ability and quality of life because of biological and environmental factors. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of a self‐management programme based on an attitude–social influence–self‐efficacy model on work ability and quality of life for nurses aged 45 years and over. Methods: A parallel group trial design was used. Nurses who fitted the eligibility criteria of being aged 45 years and over were randomly assigned to an intervention or a control group. Data were collected between October 2017 and June 2018 at the hospital. The participants were blinded to group allocation. The primary outcome in the study was the impact of age on work ability. Results: Each group consisted of 30 nurses. There were no dropouts, so all subjects were analysed. Compared with the baseline, the intervention group's work ability was higher. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the amount of changes in Work Ability Index scores at the third month compared the baseline. Conclusion: The self‐management programme was effective in increasing the nurses' work ability and healthy lifestyle behaviours affecting their quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to analyze the levels and trajectories of physical rehabilitation needs across five resource-poor world regions, against global and key country-specific benchmarks. This comparative, secondary cross-region analysis uses data from the Global Burden of Diseases study 2017 [1990–2017], specifically varied metrics of the Years Lived with Disability (YLD) measure from the health conditions likely benefiting from physical rehabilitation. All the resource-poor world regions had significant increases (p < 0.01) in the absolute, relative, and percentage of physical rehabilitation needs [1990–2017]. Nonetheless, The Asia-Pacific region stood out with the greatest YLD Rates (i.e., per population size) in 2017, the greatest growth in YLD Rates since 1990 (38%), and an exponential growth in the rehabilitation-sensitive YLD Rates. The Asia-Pacific region also had the greatest portion of their YLDs coming from rehabilitation-sensitive conditions (72% in 2017), closely followed by the Latin America & Caribbean (67%). Nonetheless, in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, we observed the greatest percent increases in the portion of physical rehabilitation needs among all YLDs, out of lower initial values. An overall growth but differential patterns were observed in the evolution of physical rehabilitation needs across the resource-poor world regions. Asia-Pacific and Latin America & Caribbean regions had over than two-thirds of their non-fatal health loss arising from conditions sensitive to physical rehabilitation, and important growths in rehabilitation need indicators have been observed also for South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The scale-up and strengthening of rehabilitation services and resources should be informed by needs-based data. The aim of this study was to analyze the technical-tactical performance profile of the serve for various age groups and categories of competition in men's volleyball. The sample comprised 13,262 serves performed by 986 players in 299 sets observed in various categories of competition (U-14, U-16, U-19, national senior, and international senior). An observational design was used. The variables studied were category of competition, type of execution, and serve performance. The results showed that for higher age groups (senior categories), there were significantly fewer jump serves and poorer serve performance, regardless of players' maturity and training development. The use of the jump serves increased the serve risk while attempting to hinder the organization of the opponent attack. Background: Research has shown that individual socio-economic circumstances throughout life affect health in older ages. However, little attention has been paid to the broad economic context affecting individual's life-chances. This paper examines whether economic downturns experienced during young and mid-adulthood have long-run effects on physical health. Methods: We exploit data on economic fluctuations in the period 1945-2010 in 11 European countries, linked to longitudinal data from three waves of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. We estimate a country fixed effect model assessing whether downturns experienced at 5-year intervals between ages 25 and 54 are associated with levels and onset of new limitations with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) in older age (55-80). Results: Experiencing an economic downturn at ages 45-59 is associated with increased risk of having at least one disability limitation in later-life (odds ratio [OR] for ADL = 1.66, 95% CI [Confidence Interval] 1.24, 2.22; OR for IADL = 1.46, 95% CI 1.10, 1.94). Economic downturns at ages 40-44 and 45-49 also increase the risk of a new functional limitation in later-life (OR for IADL ages 40-44 = 1.20, 95% CI 1.03, 1.40; OR for IADL ages 45-49 = 1.44, CI 1.10-1.88). Economic downturns experienced around these ages are also associated with significantly greater risks of smoking and excessive alcohol consumption as well as lower incomes in older age. Conclusions: Exposure to an economic downturn at ages 40-49 is associated with poorer health in older ages, possibly by increasing risk of unhealthy behaviours and low incomes persisting into older age. The aim of this paper was to investigate the VOT of voiceless plosives (/p, t, k/) in the speech of Hungarian-speaking elderly. Read speech of 25 old (70 to 90 years) and 25 young (21 to 32 years) was analyzed. In each recording, the VOT of phonologically short [p, t, k] was measured. Our data show that VOT values of all three types of voiceless plosives would exhibit significant differences both in old and in young Hungarians' speech. Bilabial and alveolar plosives had significantly longer VOT in old subjects' speech than in that of young subjects, while old subjects produced significantly shorter VOTs in pronouncing [k] than their younger peers. We argue that these results are attributable to (1) significantly slower rate of articulation (yielding longer speech sounds in general), and (2) the articulatory and aerodynamic background of the production of plosives. Objectives. We characterized smokers who are likely to use electronic or "e-"cigarettes to quit smoking. Methods. We obtained cross-sectional data in 2010-2012 from 1567 adult daily smokers in Hawaii using a paper-and-pencil survey. Analyses were conducted using logistic regression. Results. Of the participants, 13% reported having ever used e-cigarettes to quit smoking. Smokers who had used them reported higher motivation to quit, higher quitting self-efficacy, and longer recent quit duration than did other smokers. Age (odds ratio [OR] = 0.98; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.97, 0.99) and Native Hawaiian ethnicity (OR = 0.68; 95% CI = 0.45, 0.99) were inversely associated with increased likelihood of ever using e-cigarettes for cessation. Other significant correlates were higher motivation to quit (OR = 1.14; 95% CI = 1.08, 1.21), quitting self-efficacy (OR = 1.18; 95% CI = 1.06, 1.36), and ever using US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved cessation aids such as nicotine gum (OR = 3.72; 95% CI = 2.67, 5.19). Conclusions. Smokers who try e-cigarettes to quit smoking appear to be serious about wanting to quit. Despite lack of evidence regarding efficacy, smokers treat e-cigarettes as valid alternatives to FDA-approved cessation aids. Background: Orthopaedic registries have shown value in tracking and surveillance of patients, implants, and outcomes associatedwith procedures. No current anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction registry (ACLRR) exists in the United States.Purpose: To describe the current cohort captured by an institutional ACLRR and describe the outcomes observed in the registeredpatients and how findings from the ACLRR are disseminated.Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2.Methods: The anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions (ACLRs) registered between February 2005 and September 2011 by 244surgeons in 48 medical centers were evaluated. The ACLRR collected data intra- and postoperatively using paper forms and electronicmedical records. The ACLRR cohort was longitudinally followed and outcomes were prospectively ascertained. Outcomes(ie, revisions, subsequent operations, venous thromboembolism, and surgical site infections) were adjudicated via chart review.Descriptive statistics are used to describe the cohort and Kaplan-Meier curves to evaluate survival.Results: During the study period, 16,192 ACLRs (15,101 primary and 1091 revisions) with a median follow-up of 1.6 years (interquartilerange, 0.7-2.8 years) were registered. Male patients received 64% of both primary and revision ACLRs. The mean age atsurgery was 29.5 years (SD, 11.4 years) for primary and revision reconstructions. Cartilage injuries were noted in 25.2% of primaryand 37.5% of revision ACLRs, and meniscal injuries were identified in 60.8% and 53.2%, respectively. Autografts were used in57.6% of primary ACLRs and 20.9% of revisions. Allografts were used in 42.4% of primaries and 78.8% of revisions. In primaryACLR, the most common femoral and tibial fixation types were interference screws (42.2% and 79.7%, respectively). Fixationtype distribution was nearly identical in primaries and revisions. Of the primary ACLRs, 3.7% had subsequent operations onthe same knee and 1.7% on the contralateral knee. Deep surgical site infection developed in 0.3% of primaries and 0.8% ofrevisions. Symptomatic deep vein thromboses were seen in 0.2% of both primaries and revisions. The overall revision ratewas 1.7%. Lower rates of graft survival were identified in younger patients and those with allografts.Conclusion: Large, community-based ACLRRs are useful in informing participating surgeons of current treatment practices,prevalence of concurrent injuries, and outcomes associated with the procedures. Aim: The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of urinary incontinence on body image, self‐esteem, and quality of life. Methods: The study was conducted with 218 women with urinary incontinence. The study data were collected using the Socio‐Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Body Cathexis Scale, Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale, and Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire. Results: There was a weak, statistically significant, positive relationship found between the Body Cathexis Scale total average scores and the Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale total average scores of the women and a weak, statistically significant, negative relationship with the Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire total average scores. In addition, a weak, statistically significant, negative relationship was found between the Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale total score averages and Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire total score averages. Significant effects were seen for body image score with pad usage; for self‐esteem in relation to number of deliveries, duration, and frequency of urinary incontinence; and for incontinence quality of life and duration and frequency of urinary incontinence and pad usage. Conclusions: It was concluded that most of the women with urinary incontinence had negative body image and that more than half of them had moderate or low self‐esteem and a moderate quality of life. More than 200 million people in the world have incontinence problems, and the majority are women.Urinary incontinence causes negative psychosocial effects such as continuous leakage of urine and fear of smelling bad, feeling unclean, decreased self‐esteem, deterioration of body image, stigmatization, embarrassment, and decreased sexual desire.There are very few studies in the literature that determine the relationship between body image and self‐esteem in women with urinary incontinence. What this paper adds? Negative effects were demonstrated for urinary incontinence in relation to women's body image, self‐esteem, and quality of life. The implications of this paper: Urinary incontinence does not directly threaten women's lives but can become a problem that physically and psychologically affects the family and social life of a woman significantly; therefore, women with incontinence should be carefully considered and evaluated from a holistic viewpoint.Nurses should assess the emotions, thoughts, and perceptions of body image, self‐esteem, and quality of life of women with urinary incontinence, and as the awareness about urinary incontinence and its treatment increases, the population of patients receiving help will increase, thus increasing the success rate in urinary incontinence management.
