This bachelor thesis focuses on the trend of femvertising in advertisements for body cosmetics in the Czech Republic. Femvertising is a relatively new phenomenon used in promotions that seek to present positive images of women and to counteract gender stereotypes. The aim of the study was to determine whether and how elements of femvertising are present in the selected advertisements intended for the Czech market from 2019-2022. For this purpose, a qualitative content analysis was conducted, which showed that elements of femvertising are present in all the selected advertisements and three of them could be described as fully femvertising.

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of gender stereotypes in advertising for intimate women's products. The topic is first described from a theoretical point of view, where the concept of gender stereotype and menstrual taboo is explained The chosen methodology of the work is quantitative content analysis, which examines the contents of the profiles of the selected brands Always, tampons o.b., Ria and Snuggs on the Instagram social network for the calendar year 2021. The results of the analysis show that a woman during menstruation is depicted alone behind the closed door of the home. In their communication, brands use elements of de-tabooing menstruation, but do not include men in the communication. The stereotypical depiction of a woman in white clothes and actively playing sports is disappearing from the advertising space.

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is femvertising in relation to the beauty segment in the Czech Republic. The aim of this thesis was to analyse selected TV and online ads used in the Czech market in 2018 and 2019 and come to the conclusion (based on results from the analysis), if the femvertising phenomenon is present in the Czech market. The results of the qualitative content media analysis showed that all of the ads from the analysed sample contained femvertising elements and it was even possible to describe some of the ads as femvertising ads.

Gender stereotypes and the prejudices associated with them are a frequently discussed issue in the society as well as in the academic world. Even though there is certain evidence of the changes in the media presentation of masculine and feminine roles, the stereotypical illustration of men and women still persists and the media have a significant impact on gender socialisation (Renzetti, Curran, 2003). TV advertising is a typical example of a media format presenting masculine and feminine genders unequally. This thesis examines this assumption focusing on the TV advertising of cars. I also follow-up on my bachelor thesis in which I dealt with the gender stereotypes in the TV advertising for children. In the research background and theory I concentrate on the general understanding of the biological and social views of gender, gender development and gender socialisation. I also provide a short introduction to the media as well as TV advertising theory. This thesis The Portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992-2012 addresses the way women are depicted in advertising in three selected Slovak magazines, at three points in time; 1992, 2002 and 2012. The work aims to discover in what direction the portrayal of women in magazine advertisements has evolved during this period when advertising occupies more and more space in the media. This work deals with gender issues and focuses mainly on the roles in which women are represented in advertising. Their passivity or activity and sexual objectification are examined through content and semiotic analysis. The dual mode of analysis will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the depiction of women in advertising and compare the different ways women are portrayed in the media depending on the target audience.

Bachelor thesis discusses the issue of men and women portrayal in advertisement; with the main focus set on contemporary television advertisement in Czech Republic. Topic is firstly described from the theoretical point of view, which sets the foundations for the research itself and introduces the reader to the current knowledge in this field. The following study is carried out on two different levels. Content analysis, which is used for breaking down of the essential parts of advertisement, clearly exposes the fact of gender stereotype remnants, even though the shift in certain equalizing aspects is noticeable; analysis is done upon a selected set of advertisements from regular broadcasts during the spring of 2011. Different angle towards the issue is approach using in-depth interviews with selected respondents. This method allows describing the overall understanding of women and men in advertisement by receivers of television advertisements; age of members of the set ranges from 25 to 45 years, women and men with different education were equally represented, providing for absolutely unique views from all individuals. The perception of said matter is strongly influenced by sex and interest in media issues of those respondents.

ENGLISH SUMMARY The main objective of this thesis was to provide a complex perspective on the mutual relationship of gender and media in the age of post-modernity with a special attention to the stereotypical gender portrayal presented to us by the contemporary Czech advertising discourse. We chose to demonstrate this problematics through the methods of semiotic analysis on the analytical sample of 5 advertisements (consisting of selected TV commercials) representing various aspects of stereotypical gender images appearing in the today's Czech advertising contents. We then subjected these selected advertisements to the analytical methods in pursuit of finding the answers to the questions related to the media image of men, women and our society that the stereotypical gender depictions contained in these advertisements help to construct. Although many of these advertisements appear to be openly sexist or even misogynic on the first sight, using the mechanisms of semiotic analysis we came to a rather opposite conclusion proposing the analyzed contents are rather pro-feminine tending toward an extensive masculine critique.
