In this paper, a disturbance observer‐based adaptive neural backstepping integral sliding mode control (BISMC) is developed for a flexible joint robot (FJR) with the integration of an adjustable stiffness rotary actuator (ASRA). This system suffers from unknown system dynamics, external disturbance, and the influence of variable stiffness, which is a challenge for achieving precision tracking performance. Considering the lumped disturbances in FJR generated by the hydraulic system and the stiffness modulation of the ASRA, we investigate the structural dynamics nonlinear model of the FJR system, including hydraulic actuator dynamics. While other linear control strategies are applied for the FJR, the proposed controller uses BISMC, neural networks (NN), and nonlinear disturbance observers to deal with the disadvantages mentioned above. Radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN) are designed to tackle unknown nonlinear functions, and the disturbance observers are introduced to compensate for the influence of the variable stiffness, disturbance, and the approximation error caused by NN. Simulations and experiments are independently implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed controller. In this article, we introduced a novel definition for a class of extended Nussbaum functions that have looser requirements than the traditional Nussbaum function. The extended Nussbaum function achieves comparable performance to the traditional Nussbaum function while addressing the challenges of unknown control directions and time‐varying actuator faults. We then provide a specific example function based on the extended Nussbaum function definition. Unlike the traditional Nussbaum function, which oscillates with fixed frequency and constantly increasing amplitude, this example function constrains the amplitude and oscillates with decreasing frequency. Consequently, its amplitude and derivative remain bounded. The oscillation of the system caused by the too large amplitude of the traditional Nussbaum function can be avoided. Furthermore, this example function is constructed using portions of elliptic curve. As a result, it is continuous and differentiable, in contrast to the normal decreasing‐frequency Nussbaum function using trigonometric function, which is only continuous. This research paper primarily focuses on the synchronization of a specific class of multi‐weighted coupled neural networks (MWCNNs) with switching topology, employing two adaptive control methods. In complex environments and under the influence of communication disturbances, the topology structures of coupled neural networks with multiple weights inevitably undergo time‐varying changes. To address this, we propose a novel type of MWCNNs with switching topologies. To ensure synchronization within this network, we develop sufficient conditions based on Lyapunov functional and inequality techniques. These conditions guarantee the achievement of synchronization. Moreover, we address the synchronization problem by employing node‐based and edge‐based adaptive controllers. Finally, we provide a numerical example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results. In this article, the prescribed performance tracking control problem is studied for interconnected nonlinear time‐delay systems with sensor and actuator faults. Based on the dynamic gain technique and the backstepping control method, a delay‐independent adaptive state feedback controller is designed. Besides, by embedding a smooth function into the controller, the unknown external disturbances, sensor and actuator faults are successfully compensated. Furthermore, we can deal with the asymmetric prescribed performance control with semi‐global or global requirements uniformly by selecting the initial value of the the scaling function. Based on Lyapunov theory, it is proved that the system output of each subsystem can closely track the desired signal and the boundedness of all signals in the closed‐loop systems can be ensured under the proposed control method. A large input delay, parametric uncertainties, matched disturbances and mismatched disturbances exist extensively in variable air volume air-conditioning systems, which can deteriorate the control performance of the room temperature and even destabilize the system. To address this problem, an adaptive-gain command filter control framework for the room temperature of variable air volume air-conditioning systems is exploited. Through skillfully designing an auxiliary system, both the filtered error and the input delay can be compensated concurrently, which can attenuate the effect of the filtered error and the input delay on the control performance of the room temperature. Then, a smooth nonlinear term with an adjusted gain is introduced into the control framework to compensate for parametric uncertainties, matched disturbances and mismatched disturbances, which relieves the conservatism of the controller gain selection. With the help of the Lyapunov theory, both the boundedness of all the system signals and the asymptotic tracking performance for the room temperature can be assured with the presented controller. This paper introduces an adaptive control scheme for quadrotor suspended load systems, to track desired trajectory with variable payload and wind disturbances. The dynamic model of the quadrotor suspended load system is developed, taking into account the impact of the wind field described by the Dryden model. To attenuate the effects of payload variation and wind disturbances on the system, an adaptive control method based on disturbance observers is devised. Additionally, the uniform boundedness of all error signals is demonstrated. We present a novel ramp metering algorithm that incorporates multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (DRL) techniques, which utilizes monitoring data from loop detectors. Our proposed approach employed a multi-agent DRL framework to generate optimized ramp metering schedules for each ramp meter in real-time, enhancing the operational efficiency of urban freeways with less investment. To simplify the implementation and training of the algorithm, we developed a simulation platform based on SUMO microscopic traffic simulator. We conducted a series of simulation experiments, including local and coordinated ramp metering scenarios with various traffic demands profiles. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DRL-based algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-practice ramp metering methods, considering a comprehensive evaluation index encompassing mainstream speed at the bottleneck and queue length on ramp. The problem of retargeting rigid body attitude with attitude constraints has been extensively investigated, whereas the challenge persists in maneuvering rigid-body attitude with multiple concurrent attitude constraints and finite sequential actuator faults. Finite sequential actuator faults, which can reduce controllability or destabilize the system, necessitate the implementation of fault-tolerant control strategies. Therefore, this paper aims to address the issue of redirecting spacecraft attitude subject to multiple attitude constraints and finite sequential actuator faults comprehensively. Firstly, we represent spacecraft attitude using unit quaternions and employ an artificial potential function to effectively handle multi-attitude constraints. The negative gradient direction guides the rigid-body spacecraft towards seamless convergence with the desired attitude. Our proposed unwinding strategy effectively avoids unwinding phenomena during large-angle spacecraft reorientation as well. Additionally, we design an adaptive compensation strategy for finite sequential actuator faults that enables real-time calculation of the fault compensation matrix under such actuator faults. Importantly, we propose an improved adaptive fault-tolerant back-stepping controller integrated with a potential function that effectively addresses both attitude constraints and finite sequential actuator faults simultaneously. This paper presents an adaptive probabilistic recurrent Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy neural PID controller for handling the problems of uncertainties in nonlinear systems. The proposed controller combines probabilistic processing with a Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy neural system to proficiently address stochastic uncertainties in controlled systems. The stability of the controlled system is ensured through the utilization of Lyapunov function to adjust the controller parameters. By tuning the probability parameters of the controller design, an additional level of control is achieved, leading to enhance the controller performance. Furthermore, it can operate without relying on the system's mathematical model. In this paper, a class of stochastic systems with nonlinear characteristics of It$ \hat{o} $-type is considered, and a robust sliding mode control to deal with the effects of parameter uncertainty, time-variant delay and nonlinear perturbations is proposed. More specifically, since the nonlinear nature of the system is not fully known, an adaptive control strategy is adopted to meet the challenge. Firstly, we design a full-order adaptive state observer and propose a novel concept of common sliding surface. Secondly, we present a controller of sliding mode method, which is adaptive with the aim of ensuring that the system reaches a predefined sliding surface within a limited time. This study explores the security control challenges encountered in cyber-physical systems when facing unknown nonlinearities and network attacks. It adopts an approach integrating observer-based adaptive sliding mode control and a threshold-changing event-triggered mechanism. Initially, a sliding mode function is formulated utilizing observer state, leading to the derivation of error dynamics and sliding mode dynamics. Subsequently, conditions ensuring stability of the closed-loop system are established through Lyapunov theory, expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities. This paper is devoted to the event-triggered consensus control for a class of uncertain multiple Euler-Lagrange (EL) systems with actuator faults. Different from the related works where strict conditions are imposed on system uncertainties and the measurements of the leader's output, more serious uncertainties are involved since all the system dynamic matrices are unknown while both actuator faults and external disturbance are considered; and moreover, fewer measurements of the leader's output are required since its time derivatives are not necessarily available for feedback. Mainly because of these, the consensus problem is hard to solve by straightforwardly extending the existing results. To solve the control problem, a dynamic gain with a smart choice of its updating law is introduced to overcome the serious uncertainties and the sampling error of the control signal. By incorporating the dynamic gain into the vectorial backstepping procedure, an adaptive consensus controller joined with an event-triggered mechanism is designed for each follower to ensure the consensus of the multi-agent system in the sense that all the states of the closed-loop system are bounded while the output of each follower tracks the leader's output. This article presents a discrete‐time robust model reference adaptive controller and adaptive sigmoid super‐twisting sliding mode (RMRAC‐ASSTSM) and its stability analysis using Lyapunov stability theory. This control structure is robust to matched and unmatched dynamics. In addition, the chattering phenomenon tends to be suppressed in the steady state due to adaptive super‐twisting sliding mode action using a sigmoid function. The performance of the proposed control structure is corroborated with simulation results, considering a second‐order non‐minimum phase unstable plant, where it can be seen that RMRAC‐ASSTSM regulation errors converge to a finite residual set when the plant presents unmodeled dynamics. This study introduces a novel adaptive controller employing neural networks, particularly radial basis function (RBF) algorithms, to enhance the control performance of pneumatic artificial muscle (PAM)-based systems. Summary In this article, for switched nonlinear time‐delay multi‐agent systems (MASs) under directed graphs, an adaptive event‐triggered (ET) consensus problem is investigated. Each agent's switching signal is allowed to be arbitrary and asynchronous. To save communication resources, an adaptive ET consensus strategy is designed. In addition, the Pade approximation approach is introduced to transform the system into an input delay‐free system. A Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional is employed to analyze the effect of time‐varying delays on system stability. It is proved that the consensus errors of switched NMASs are bounded, and the Zeno behavior does not exist. Finally, the presented strategy's effectiveness is verified by simulation results. Using soft materials in robotic mechanisms has become a common solution to overcome many challenges associated with the rigid bodies frequently used in robotics. Compliant mechanisms allow the robot to adapt to objects and perform a broader range of tasks, unlike rigid bodies that are generally designed for specific applications. However, soft robotics presents its own set of challenges in both design and implementation, particularly in sensing and control. These challenges are abundant when dealing with the force control problem of a compliant gripping mechanism. The ability to effectively regulate the applied force of a gripper is a critical task in many control operations, as it allows the precise manipulation of objects, which drives the need for enhanced force control strategies for soft or flexible grippers. Standard sensing techniques, such as motor current monitoring and strain-based sensors, add complexities and uncertainties when establishing mathematical models of soft grippers to the required gripping forces. In addition, the soft gripper creates a complex non-linear system, compounded by adding an adhesive-type sensor. This work develops a unique visual force sensor trained on synthetic data generated using finite element analysis (FEA) and implemented by integrating a non-linear model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) to control gripping force on a fixed 6-DOF robot. The robot can be placed on a mobile platform to perform various tasks. The virtual FEA sensor and controller, combined, are termed virtual reference adaptive control (VRAC). The VRAC was compared to other methods and achieved comparable control sensing and control performance while reducing the complexity of the sensor requirements and its integration. The VRAC strategy effectively controlled the gripping force by driving the dynamics to match the desired performance after a limited amount of training cycles. This paper presents a new adaptive modification of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) with parameter estimation based on a recursive least-squares (RLS) method. The common ADRC used in many applications relies on the simple approach, which assumes the simplification of the object into an integral chain form. However, this model-free ADRC does not guarantee the stability of a closed-loop system in the presence of noticeable modeling uncertainties, so it is compared in this paper to another approach, in which the linear part of the system is included in the ADRC framework (generalized ADRC). This incorporation of the model is examined in the paper for a wide range of model and controller parameters, considering also the presence of external disturbances as well as parameter uncertainties, pointing out the limitations of fixed-gain algorithms. Then, the adaptive modification of the model-based ADRC is proposed, which is equipped with a real-time estimation of model parameters by means of the RLS method in continuous time. The stability conditions of the proposed modification of the algorithm in the closed control loop are also analyzed. It can be concluded that, under appropriate conditions, the inclusion of information about known plant parameters into the ADRC can noticeably improve the conditions of the control system. The proposed adaptive model-based approach enables quality improvement during the control process even with initially unknown parameters, for time-varying parameters, and in the presence of parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. Traditional spacecraft attitude control often relies heavily on the dimension and mass information of the spacecraft. In active debris removal scenarios, these characteristics cannot be known beforehand because the debris can take any shape or mass. Additionally, it is not possible to measure the mass of the combined system of satellite and debris object in orbit. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an adaptive satellite attitude control that can extract mass information about the satellite system from other measurements. The authors propose using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms, employing stacked observations to handle widely varying masses. The satellite is simulated in Basilisk software, and the control performance is assessed using Monte Carlo simulations. The results demonstrate the benefits of DRL with stacked observations compared to a classical proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for the spacecraft attitude control. A four‐degree‐of‐freedom upper limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot system with a gravity compensation device is constructed. The objective is to address the rehabilitation training needs of patients with upper limb motor dysfunction. A BP neural network adaptive control method based on particle swarm optimization is proposed. First, the degrees of freedom of the human body are analyzed, and a Lagrange method is employed to construct a dynamic model. Second, a particle swarm optimization back propagation neural network adaptive control algorithm based on particle swarm optimization is presented. Subsequently, the range of motion of the upper limbs is analyzed with reference to muscle anatomy and a three‐dimensional motion capture system. And the robot structure design is analyzed in detail. In aspects of its simple configuration and tunability, piezoelectric-based metasurface has benefited over its mechanical counterpart in adaptive wavefront manipulation. By tuning the circuitry elements in the shunting circuits properly, the equivalent material properties of the metasurface can be modified to attain a complete 2 π phase shift and to maintain high transmission at desired working frequencies. In this paper, a piezoelectric-based elastic metasurface with hybrid shunting circuits ( NC – LC – NC shunts) are proposed to adaptively control the propagation of flexural waves. Through tuning of negative capacitance and inductance simultaneously, the proposed elastic metasurface can cover a phase shift ranging from 0 − 2 π while having a high transmission ( ≥ 0.7). It is discovered that any similar metasurface structural design with solely single shunting circuit presently available could not achieve the same results as the proposed elastic metasurface. In addition, analytical modeling based on equivalent Young's modulus is developed and a finite element model is built to study the transmission and phase shift of the proposed metasurface. It is demonstrated numerically that the proposed piezoelectric-based elastic metasurface is capable of performing switchable functionalities, such as wave refraction and focusing, at different working frequencies (3500 Hz, 5000 Hz, etc.). Utilization of hybrid shunting circuits in designing a more compact metasurface design. Chips must be reliably segmented and evacuated from the cutting zone for effective deep hole drilling. Drilling with low-frequency axial vibrations ensures these useful effects because cutting edges periodically leave the cutting zone. Useful tool vibrations can be maintained using a special self-vibratory drilling head. The drilling head has an elastic element and ensures the self-excitation of vibrations due to the regenerative effect. However, high damping in the cutting zone suppresses axial self-vibrations and renders such a drilling head inexpedient for industry. This study develops a novel system of adaptive control for the vibration drilling process. The control objective is to maintain a specified peak-to-peak (PTP) value of vibration displacements. Due to the in-process adaptation of the feedback gain, the control system supplies additional energy if vibrations are not self-excited and removes energy if the PTP vibration displacements are greater than the specified value. To test the workability of the system, an experimental setup was made. In the setup, the actuator force acts on an elastically fixed workpiece. The dynamic properties of the setup are equivalent to those of the vibration drilling head. The algorithm of feedback gain adaptation was implemented with a microcontroller. A number of experiments for different drilling regimes revealed that the control system successfully maintains the specified PTP value of displacements. The developed control system can be implemented on a vibration drilling head because only an accelerometer is required for control and the required actuator force is under 100 N. This article presents a novel approach to achieve precise trajectory tracking control for a line-following quadcopter by employing a multilayer type-2 fuzzy Petri nets controller (MT2PNC). The MT2PNC dynamically adapts its parameters based on tracking errors, allowing for real-time adjustments to the quadcopter's tilt angles and flight direction. The effectiveness of the controller is thoroughly evaluated through both simulations and experimental studies. In the experimental study, a camera is integrated into the quadcopter to capture line images, which are then processed using sophisticated image processing algorithms to extract essential line information. This extracted data is subsequently fed into the MT2PNC, enabling the quadcopter to precisely follow the reference line. The simulation and experimental results conclusively demonstrate the superior control efficacy of the MT2PNC, showcasing its remarkable ability to accurately track the quadcopter's trajectory. In response to the problem of disturbance in the imaging equipment of stratospheric airships, this study designs a vibration isolation and stability system for carrying imaging equipment. The system mainly consists of microprocessor, gimbal, voice coil motor (VCM) and rubber ring. By using adaptive control law based on characteristic model to control the double closed control loop of the motor composed of position loop and speed loop, the camera deflection caused by disturbance is effectively eliminated. Furthermore, in vertical vibration suppression, the adaptive control law based on the characteristic model is also applied to the double closed control loop of the voice coil motor, which removes most of the vertical vibration and realizes active vibration isolation. The passive isolation of the system is completed by rubber rings. The experimental results show that the vibration isolation and stabilization system have good performance in complex disturbance environments, effectively stabilizing the imaging equipment. The group‐weighted containment (GWC) problem is studied for swarms of robots, where the information flow among agents is heterogeneous (weighted) cooperative‐competitive and the whole networked systems are composed of multiple different groups. Each group is formed by multiple harmonic oscillator leaders and multiple robot followers governed by Euler‐Lagrange (EL) equations. After introducing the definition of group‐weighted containment to the networked robot systems, the control algorithms for the agents containing followers and leaders are formulated over newly weighted cooperative‐competitive network. Some necessary conditions for solving the weighted containment control problem are established. It is shown that the followers in every group can achieve a kind of novel coordinated behaviors. Specifically, the followers can converge to the dynamic convex hull spanned by the corresponding leaders' weighted coordinates under some conditions. This paper presents an innovative adaptive fractional-order (FO) terminal sliding mode (TSM) controller designed for a 5-degree-of-freedom (5-DOF) upper-limb exoskeleton robot. The primary focus is on addressing the challenges posed by nonlinearities and uncertainties in parameter values. The proposed approach integrates several key elements, including a novel fractional-order non-singular terminal sliding mode (FONSTSM) surface, an exponential reaching law, and the utilization of the extreme learning machine (ELM). This comprehensive strategy guarantees not only finite-time convergence but also robust stability, effectively alleviating the well-known chattering phenomenon. Furthermore, it successfully overcomes the singularity issues typically observed in conventional TSM controllers. The incorporation of the ELM with rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation function enhances robustness by facilitating the estimation of parameters related to the exponential control law. This article considers the adaptive tracking control problem of a class of strict feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time‐varying parameters. Note that the recent adaptive method, that is, congelation of variables, is built upon the assumption that the known basis functions are zeros as zero states. To remove this assumption, a novel monotonically increasing function is designed to transform the output tracking error and the backstepping tracking errors into increasing forms, which is integrated into the congelation of variables to design the σ$$ \sigma $$‐modification adaptive tracking control law. It is noted that the proposed form of monotonically increasing function is general, which includes positive proportional functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions and so on. This article presents a novel adaptive composite learning (ACL) control strategy combining reinforcement learning and a disturbance observer (DOB) to address vibration issues in a flexible two‐link manipulator (FTLM) system affected by unknown spatiotemporally varying disturbances. Based on the assumed mode method, the FTLM system is initially transformed into an ordinary differential equation model, while effectively capturing the elastic deformation and vibration characteristics of the flexible link. A composite learning controller, based on the actor‐critic algorithm and DOB, is then developed to achieve trajectory tracking and vibration suppression in the FTLM system. The DOB in the controller compensates for unknown disturbances resulting in reduced system error. Summary: In this article, the problem of global adaptive practical tracking for high‐order uncertain nonstrict feedback nonlinear systems with unknown control coefficients is studied. To avoid the algebraic loop problem associated with the nonstrict feedback condition and guarantee the controllability of the tracking error, a novel dual dynamic gain scaling method is introduced to compensate nonlinearities and the tracking error simultaneously. Besides, by incorporating the sign functions into the design of adding a power integrator, a general approach for the handing of unknown control coefficients and the direction design of the controller is developed. The presented control scheme can ensure that all system states are globally bounded without constraints on state variables while the reference signal is tracked with expected precision. In this paper, the problem of sampled-data adaptive tracking control for a class of switched nonlinear systems with prescribed performance is considered. In order to guarantee the system is stable and achieves the prescribed performance in sampled-data control, a coordinate transformation satisfying the prescribed performance is introduced. In addition, the neural networks (NNs) used to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions and the backstepping technique are applied to design the sampled-data controller and the adaptive laws. An upper bound on the sampling period is obtained to maintain the stability of the systems. It is confirmed that the designed sampled-data scheme ensures that all signals of the closed-loop system are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB) and the tracking error is limited to the prescribed performance function. In this paper, for strict-feedback nonlinear systems with positive odd rational powers, the problem of adaptive fixed-time tracking control (FTTC) is considered. With the support of fixed-time theorem and adaptive backstepping method, this paper proposes a new globally adaptive FTTC strategy, which can overcome the singular problems caused by the derivation of virtual control signal. In addition, the proposed control scheme is a universal approach that can be applied to other types of nonlinear systems. Furthermore, the designed adaptive fixed-time tracking controller ensures the boundedness of all signals in the controlled system, and it guarantees the tracking error converges to a small neighbourhood near equilibrium in fixed-time. In this study, dynamic formation tracking and interception are performed by controlling multi-agent using a Euler-like Lagrangian model. The purpose is to use the distance-based rigid graph method to control multi-agent, and ultimately achieve dynamic formation tracking and target interception of multi-agent. Initially, distance-based graph stiffness and back-stepping techniques were considered to address the formation control challenge. This method helps achieve the initial expected formation and effectively complete the formation mission. Leaders continue to chase the moving target, while followers stick to the expected arrangement. The leader then precisely tracks the moving target and surrounds it within the formation. By using Lyapunov stability theory with adaptive control, it is ensured that the total distance meets finite and consistent error limits. This paper addressed the adaptive control problem for non-strict-feedback nonlinear systems with dead-zone and external disturbances. The design methodology integrated the backstepping technique with the approximation of unknown functions using an echo state network (ESN), enabling real-time adjustments. This paper proposes an adaptive incremental nonlinear dynamic inversion (INDI) controller for unmanned aerial manipulators (UAMs). A novel adaptive law is employed to enable aerial manipulators to manage the inertia parameter changes that occur when the manipulator moves or picks up unknown objects during any phase of the UAM's flight maneuver. The adaptive law utilizes a Kalman filter to estimate a set of weighting factors employed to adjust the control gain matrix of a previously developed INDI control law formulated for the corresponding UAV (no manipulator included). The proposed adaptive control scheme uses acceleration and actuator input measurements of the UAV without necessitating any knowledge about the manipulator, its movements, or the objects being grasped, thus enabling the use of previously developed INDI UAV controllers for UAMs. The algorithm is validated through simulations demonstrating that the adaptive control gain matrix used in the UAV's INDI controller is promptly updated based on the UAM maneuvers, resulting in effective UAV and robot arm control. The main objective of this work is to address problems related to the speed control of mobile robots with non-holonomic constraints and differential traction—specifically, robots for football games in the VSS (Very Small Size) category. To achieve this objective, an implementation and comparison is carried out between two control strategies: an adaptive control strategy by gain scheduling and a fuzzy multimodel intelligent control strategy. The mathematical models of the wheel motors for each operating range are approximated by a first-order system since data acquisition is performed using the step response. Tuning of the proportional and integral gains of the local controllers is carried out using the root locus technique in discrete time. For each mathematical model obtained for an operating range, a local controller is tuned. Finally, with the local controllers in hand, the implementation of and comparison between the gain scheduling adaptive control strategy and the fuzzy multimodel intelligent control strategy are carried out, in which the control strategies are programmed into the low-level code of a non-holonomic robot with a differential drive to verify the performance of the speed tracking dynamics imposed on the wheel motors to improve robot navigation during a robot football match. The system performance of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) has a serious impact on the grid stability. To improve the control performance and shorten the convergence time, a predefined-time controller based on backstepping technology and dynamic surface control is formulated for the inverter in the grid-connected photovoltaic. The time-varying tuning functions are introduced into state-tracking errors to realize the predefined-time control effect. To address the “computational explosion problem” in the design process of backstepping control, dynamic surface control is adopted to avoid the analytical calculations of virtual control. The disturbances of the PV system are estimated and compensated by adaptive laws. The control parameters are chosen and the global stability of the closed-loop is ensured by Lyapunov conditions. This paper proposes a "planning and control" scheme for a compliant mechanism (CM) based on a pneumatic actuator (PAC) with hysteresis nonlinearity and full-state constraints. In the planning part, a novel direct inverse model is presented to compensate for hysteresis nonlinearity, enabling more accurate planning of the desired air pressure based on the desired contact force. In the control part, by fusing fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) and an extended state observer (ESO), a fuzzy ESO is developed to observe the external disturbance and the rate of change of the air pressure. Additionally, the challenges in the controller design caused by full-state constraints are overcome by constructing barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs). It is proved that all signals of the closed-loop system are bounded, and the tracking error of the air pressure can converge to a small neighborhood of the origin. Finally, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method are verified by hardware experiments, which also show that the root mean square errors of force control accuracies are within 2N, achieving satisfactory force control effects. An adaptive high-efficiency light-emitting Diode (LED) backlight driver scheme has been proposed to address the issue of additional power loss caused by LED forward voltage variation. In this scheme, the peak current and the duty cycle of each LED channel are adjusted separately through an adaptive control algorithm to minimize the voltage drop on the linear current regulator (LCR) of each LED channel to reduce the excessive power loss in each LED channel and enhance the total power efficiency. A linear current regulator, suitable for adaptive control, is designed on a 0.18 μm 5V complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process. Simulation results demonstrate that the linear current regulator can achieve a linearly adjustable channel current ranging from 0 to 48 mA with a current resolution of 0.2 mA. Across different process corners and temperatures, the maximum error for the full current range is less than 0.1%. The core area of chip layout is about 0.1 mm2. The complete driver prototype comprises the LCR chips, external power MOS transistors, digital module, and LED chains. The test results show that the power loss of the linear current regulator has been significantly reduced, and the power efficiency of each LED channel has been measured at around 98.1%. In the application of DNA‐based chaotic synchronization, the precise values of the system parameters are often complicated to attain due to the interference of external factors, thus weakening the performance of synchronization. In this paper, considering the case of unknown parameters in chaotic systems, a method of adaptive synchronization based on DNA strand displacement (DSD) is proposed. Firstly, the chain replacement reaction modules of emergence, activation and degradation are given through the design of DNA strand, which enable the realization of Yang chaotic system using the mass action dynamics law. Further, in order to achieve the estimation of the unknown parameters and the stability of the error system, the rules for identification of unknown parameters are derived and adaptive controllers are designed under the adaptive control principle. Finally, an internal synchronization approach is recommended to decompose the chaotic system into subsystems of different orders, which can freely choose subsystems to complete synchronization. Subsequently, numerical simulations show that DNA‐based adaptive controllers can fulfill the internal synchronization of Yang system with unknown parameters and are robust to parameter deviations. This paper introduces an adaptive trajectory-tracking control method for uncertain nonlinear systems, leveraging a time-varying threshold event-triggered mechanism to achieve predefined-time tracking. Compared to conventional time-triggering approaches, the employment of a time-varying threshold event-triggered mechanism significantly curtails communication resource wastage without compromising the system's performance. Furthermore, a novel adaptive control algorithm with predefined timing is introduced. This method guarantees that tracking errors converge to within a small vicinity of the origin within a predefined timeframe, ensuring all signals in the closed-loop system remain bounded. Moreover, by adjusting a controller-related parameter, we can predefine the upper bound of the convergence time. This article summarizes the authors' experiences in the development and application of the General Dynamical Model Approach related to adaptive linearizing control of biotechnological processes. Special attention has been given to some original, innovative solutions in model-based process control theory: new formalization of biotechnological process kinetics, derivation and tuning of the general software sensor of the full kinetics of biotechnological processes, and a general algorithm for fully adaptive linearizing control with software sensors. These theoretical solutions are the basis of three control strategies—fully adaptive control of the main substrate, partially adaptive control of intermediate metabolite, and recognition and stabilization of the desired physiological state based on the proposed theoretical solutions. Each strategy is illustrated in different case studies. The advantages and limitations of each of them are identified and discussed. The derived algorithms for monitoring and controlling the considered biotechnological processes are realized and included in a software platform named Interactive System for Education in Modelling and Control of Bioprocesses (InSEMCoBio). The InSEMCoBio modules and their main functions are discussed. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategies (achieving maximum productivity) has been proven through a series of simulation investigations of the considered case studies. In this article, a new intelligent fault-tolerant control (FTC) is designed to control a flexible-link manipulator with uncertain dead-zone and intermittent actuator faults. Initially, a smooth dead-zone inverse model using a hyperbolic tangent function is introduced to handle dead-zone nonlinearity and suppress input chattering. An adaptive law is proposed to estimate an unknown coupling item, combining the upper bounds of compensation error and floating bias faults, achieving robust adaptive control of the system. A new FTC strategy is subsequently developed to address intermittent actuator faults. Finally, the bounded convergence of system state errors is proven using direct Lyapunov methods, and the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed controller are demonstrated through numerical simulation and experiment. The paper is devoted to the adaptive tracking control based on the mismatched disturbance observer for motor‐driven robotic manipulators. A novel mismatched disturbance observer is introduced, which does not make bounded derivative assumptions on mismatched disturbances in the robotic manipulator system. Additionally, a new adaptive tracking controller for a motor‐driven robotic manipulator based on the mismatched disturbance observer is designed, which guarantees that all closed‐loop signals are globally uniformly bounded and the tracking error is asymptotic stable. This study proposes a reinforcement learning‐based finite‐time cross‐media tracking control approach for a slender body cross‐media vehicle encountering unknown hydrodynamics, wind, and wave disturbances. Initially, a reinforcement learning framework consisting of the actor neural network and critic neural network is constructed. The critic neural network monitors the actions of the actor neural network and approximates the cost function, while the actor neural network estimates the unknown hydrodynamics and disturbances, minimising the cost function to optimise performance. Subsequently, the command filter featuring finite‐time convergence is formulated, effectively managing the corresponding filter error through a proposed error compensating signal. By integrating these techniques, a reinforcement learning‐based finite‐time control strategy is developed, circumventing the singularity issue inherent in traditional finite‐time backstepping strategies. Comparative analysis with existing methods demonstrates the strong robustness of the proposed scheme against unknown hydrodynamics and disturbances, ensuring finite‐time convergence of the system's states and optimising controller performance. The concurrent existence of model uncertainties, external disturbances, and actuator faults in a nonlinear system such as a robotic manipulator can significantly affect the trajectory tracking performance of these systems. Therefore this study is devoted to proposing a control approach based on fixed‐time control theory to improve the trajectory tracking performance of the robotic manipulator in the presence of lumped disturbance, including uncertainties, external disturbances, and actuator faults. The control approach in this paper is designed based on the integration of a fixed‐time adaptive sliding mode observer and a fixed‐time non‐singular fast terminal sliding mode control design strategy. Firstly, a new fixed‐time adaptive sliding mode observer is designed based on fixed‐time theory and adaptive control theory to estimate the lumped disturbance present in the system. Then, using the information from the disturbance observer, the fixed‐time non‐singular fast terminal sliding mode control is devised based on a non‐singular fixed‐time sliding surface and a fixed‐time reaching approach. Furthermore, in the sense of the Lyapunov theorem, through rigorous analysis, it is demonstrated that the tracking errors of the closed‐loop system converge to a small neighbourhood within a fixed time, regardless of the information about the initial conditions of the states of the system. Finally, extensive comparative simulations are performed using the PUMA560 robot to manifest the feasibility and validity of the proposed control strategy in terms of trajectory tracking accuracy and fast convergence in the presence of uncertainties, disturbances, and actuator faults. Adaptive control and synchronization techniques have been extensively developed over the years due to their ability to operate without prior analytical knowledge of the system. However, their application in real-world systems necessitates the consideration of various factors such as delays and stochastic disturbances. Moreover, the conventional hypothesis of a global Lipschitzian condition is often overly restrictive for real-world systems. In this paper, we address these challenges by jointly incorporating these factors. We introduce a novel parameter θ in the algebraic power associated with the adaptive rule. This modification enhances the effectiveness of the adaptive scheme in more realistic systems. Additionally, we investigate how the power θ and the nonlinear degrees of vector fields affect the performance of the adaptive scheme. The adaptive scheme proves to be effective in controlling or synchronizing stochastic complex dynamics in ecosystems and biosystems, demonstrating its broad applicability in various fields. This letter addresses the output consensus problem for a class of two‐dimensional (2D) multi agent systems (MASs) described by Fornasini–Marchesini model. By transforming the 2D agent into a compact form, an adaptive variable, which adjusted by the tracking errors of itself and the neighbour agents, is designed to approximate the unknown varying coefficient. Then, based on the approximated coefficient and the iteration‐varying reference surfaces, the distributed adaptive iterative learning control strategy is obtained. The output consensus of the 2D multi agent is proved. In this paper, an adaptive controller is proposed for an active suspension system to achieve optimal compromise performance for vehicles equipped with non-pneumatic wheels under different road conditions. Firstly, the effective vertical stiffness of the non-pneumatic wheel (NPW) was identified through the static force-deflection tests. Then, the effect of the variations in NPW stiffness and mass on the vibration responses was investigated using a quarter-vehicle model. In order to coordinate the ride comfort and handling performance of the vehicle for different road excitations, an adaptive controller was synthesized using the model predictive control (MPC) theory together with an H ∞ state observer. The control gains for different control objectives were determined using a genetic algorithm (GA). Simulations indicate that the proposed controller can adapt to different road excitations and effectively enhance the dynamic performance of the vehicle. Specifically, by applying adaptive control, the root-mean-square (RMS) value of sprung mass acceleration (SMA) and the dynamic wheel load (DWL) coefficient are reduced by 19.4% and −9.3% on Class B roads and 12.4% and 3.8% on Class C roads, respectively, which is superior to the modified skyhook control (19.4% and −11.8% on Class B roads, and 19.3% and −12.3% on Class C roads). This paper proposes a prescribed performance control policy for spacecraft attitude tracking control. The designed controller employs a kind of performance envelope function that can configure the convergence rate arbitrarily. Moreover, the controller design is based on the barrier Lyapunov function and indirect adaptive methods, which can suppress the fluctuation of external disturbances to obtain lower steady-state errors. Compared to prior studies on spacecraft attitude tracking, the proposed policy can arbitrarily configure the system convergence performance to achieve performance trade-offs in different scenarios. Moreover, the barrier Lyapunov function design and adaptive methods can achieve low steady-state errors with low computational resource consumption. A practical fixed‐time composite learning control scheme, by combining dynamic regressor extension and mixing (DREM) parameter identification algorithm and adaptive dynamic surface control (DSC) technique, is proposed for a class of strict‐feedback non‐linear systems subjected to linear‐in‐parameters uncertainties and full‐state constraint. To address the problem of state constraint, a non‐linear transformation function is introduced to convert the originally constrained non‐linear system into an unconstrained one. Meanwhile, the hyperbolic tangent function is employed to avoid singularity issues that often appeared in the traditional fixed‐time (FXT) control designs. In order to relax the requirement of persistency of excitation condition, a modified FXT‐DREM parameter identification approach with an interval excitation condition is constructed by introducing a three‐layer transformation technique derived from the classical DREM algorithm. Then, the modified FXT‐DREM parameter identification algorithm is seamlessly integrated into the adaptive DSC framework, resulting in a composite‐learning control scheme. By employing Lyapunov stability analysis, the fixed‐time convergence of both the parameter estimation error and the trajectory tracking error is proved.
