Background: The oral health of older people is closely related to their overall health. Timely and effective intervention in oral issues is necessary to maintain their overall health. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of an Oral Health Promotion Program (OHPP) in Geriatric Care Facilities (GCFs). Methods: The OHPP was implemented in two GCFs and evaluated using a pre/post-design. Questionnaires on self-efficacy and attitude for providing oral care were sent to 42 nurse participants before and three months after the implementation of the OHPP. Outcomes of 295 patient participants were assessed at four time points (T1-baseline, T2-one month, T3-two months, and T4-three months post-implementation) including Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT). Results: The oral health and daily activity ability of patient participants showed an improving trend at four time points pre/post-implementation of the OHPP. The proportion of patients with healthy mouths (OHAT: 0–3 points) increased from 29.8 to 67.8% and their scores of OHAT and ADL were significantly better at T4 compared to T1, T2, and T3 (p < 0.001). Self-efficacy (SE-PMC: T1 = 18.93 ± 3.18, T4 = 28.83 ± 6.56, p < 0.001) and attitude (A-PMC: T1 = 18.78 ± 3.09, T4 = 28.20 ± 6.03, p < 0.001) for oral care among nurse participants improved after the implementation of the OHPP. Conclusions: This study highlights the feasibility of implementing OHPP within GCFs, potentially enhancing the oral health and daily living activities of older individuals. Integrating the OHPP into routine care in geriatric settings is not only practical but also widely acceptable, offering a proactive approach to address oral health disparities among older residents. Stakeholders can maximize the impact of the OHPP by fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, administrators, and residents, ultimately improving oral health outcomes and overall quality of life of older residents. This study was designed based on a cross-sectional investigation conducted Shanghai, China. Demographic characteristics, diaper utilization, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and emotion were collected by Unified Needs Assessment Form for Elderly Care Questionnaire. Cognition function was assessed by Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) scale. Multivariate logistic regression was used for statistical analysis. The diaper utilization rate was 31.2%. Female, higher level of education, poorer ADL and cognition, more severe incontinence and financial dependence on others were facilitating factors for diaper usage (P < 0.05). The possibility of using diaper differed according to the intimacy of caregivers. Among incontinent individuals with relatively good ADL and cognition level, diaper utilization can significantly decrease the risk of going out only once a month (OR: 2.63 vs 4.05), and going out less than once a month (OR: 5.32 vs 6.53). Incontinence people who going out at least once a week had a lower risk of some negative emotion. Significantly, diaper utilization further decreased this risk. In conclusion, for incontinence elderly people with relatively independent ability, proper use of diaper may improve the frequency of outdoor activity and emotion. Background: Falls in older adults has become a significant public health concern worldwide. Falls-related self-efficacy is closely related to healthy aging. This study investigated older adults receiving different types of care to clarify the correlation between falls efficacy and Activies of Daily Living (ADL), providing a theoretical basis for achieving healthy aging. Methods: An investigation comparing older adults attending senior day care centers and healthy older adults staying at home in the community was carried out by using structured questionnaires, including individual participants' data, Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES-I), Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 and Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale (Lawton IADLs). Results: A total of 336 older adults were enrolled, and 153 (45.5%) older adults attending senior day care centers daily. The FES-I score of all the respondents was 30.65 ± 13.892, while the scores of healthy older adults staying at home in the community and attending senior day care centers were 25.05 ± 10.036 and 37.35 ± 14.894, respectively (p < 0.05). Among healthy older adults staying at home in the community, those using walking aids (OR = 53.595, 95%CI: 8.181, 351.129), with fear of falling (OR = 5.909, 95%CI:1.374, 25.407) and with anxiety symptoms (OR = 23.620, 95%CI: 6.077, 91.802) had low falls efficacy. Among older adults attending senior day care centers daily, those with higher education levels had high falls efficacy (OR = 0.276, 95%CI: 0.088, 0.862), and those with poor sleep quality (OR = 4.469, 95%CI: 0.682, 29.312), comorbidities (OR = 9.820, 95%CI: 1.990, 48.456), and with severe depressive symptoms (OR = 3.680, 95%CI: 1.098, 12.335) had low falls efficacy. The older adults with a higher score of Lawton IADLs had higher falls efficacy. Conclusions: Older adults attending senior day care centers daily had lower falls efficacy and needed to be paid more attention to in fall prevention. Purpose: We aimed to propose a serial mediational model to further analyze the relationship between poor physical performance, malnutrition, depression and cognitive impairment in Chinese community-dwelling older adults. Patients and Methods: This study consisted of 1386 community-dwelling Chinese older adults aged 65 years and older in Shanghai, China. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was assessed by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Instrumental Activities Of Daily Living (IADL). Physical performance was assessed by short physical performance battery (SPPB). Malnutrition was defined with the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Depressive symptoms were evaluated by the 30-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Serial multiple mediator models were used. Results: The mean age of the final analysis sample was 73.62± 6.14, and 57.6% (n=809) were females. The prevalence of MCI was 14.35% (n=199). Physical performance (p< 0.001), nutritional status (p=0.025), and depressive symptoms (p=0.002) were correlated with MCI. The serial mediational model revealed that MNA and GDS scores significantly mediated association of SPPB and MMSE scores (c'=0.4728, p< 0.001). Furthermore, depressive symptoms significantly mediated the association of physical performance and cognition (p=0.0311), while malnutrition had no independent mediating effect between these two factors (p=0.794). Conclusion: Our study examined the serial multiple mediation roles of nutritional status and depressive symptoms on the relationship between physical performance and cognitive function in community-dwelling Chinese older adults. Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represents an intermediate state between normal cognitive aging and dementia. We aimed to investigate the association and mediation pathways of sarcopenia, including its individual components (muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance), and depressive symptoms with MCI in the older adults.Methods: This study consisting of 1394 community-dwelling Chinese older adults aged 60 years and older in Tianjin and Shanghai, China. Sarcopenia was defined according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria. Depressive symptoms were evaluated by the 30-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Cognitive function was assessed by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Chinese version of the Dementia Rating Scale (CDRS) was used to apply the diagnostic of non-dementia, and instrument activities of daily living (IADL) were used to evaluate daily living activities. Logistic regression and mediation analyses fully adjusted for all potential confounding factors were conducted.Results: Sarcopenia, handgrip strength, gait speed, and depressive symptoms were associated with MCI. Furthermore, depressive symptoms significantly mediated the association of sarcopenia, handgrip strength, and gait speed with cognitive function. The relationship of depressive symptoms and cognition were also mediated by sarcopenia, handgrip strength, and gait speed.Limitations: This is a cross-sectional study.Conclusions: Our findings suggest that sarcopenia may contribute substantially to the development of MCI in the older adults via depressive symptoms, although the reverse may also be true. Aim: Residential greenness exposure is associated with many health outcomes, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, and mental disorders. However, few studies have assessed the effects of greenness exposure on activities of daily living (ADL). This study evaluated the relationship between greenness and ADL among elderly residents with long-term care insurance (LTCI) in Shanghai, China.Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey using stratified random sampling among elderly residents with LTCI in six districts of Shanghai in August 2018. We quantitatively assessed residential greenness using satellite-derived normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) values with 250-, 500-, and 1000-m buffers around each participant's residential address. We calculated the walk score to assess neighborhood walkability. Physical function was assessed using basic ADL (BADL) and instrumental ADL (IADL). We performed binary logistic regression and restricted cubic splines with R software.Results: The study participants were 1067 adults with a mean age of 82.40 years (standard deviation, 7.68 years). The mean NDVI value was 0.311. In the fully adjusted model, being in the highest-tertile NDVI500-m had a significant protective effect on BADL mild to none disability (odds ratio, 2.143; 95% confidence interval, 1.489-3.084) compared with participants in the lowest-tertile NDVI500-m. Restricted cubic spline showed a non-linearity association between NDVI values and BADL and IADL mild to none disability.Conclusions: Our results indicate the importance of residential greenness exposure to physical function-especially for BADL disability.
