Reverberation time plays a very important role in interior acoustics. The said parameter is largely responsible for how a verbal or musical sound is perceived. At the design stage, it is not possible to measure the reverberation time, and therefore either theoretical models or computer simulations are used. The known theoretical models take little account of the influence of the distribution of sound-absorbing materials on the result of reverberation time. Hence, such an analysis was carried out in the present study. The analysis was performed using the ODEON computer program. Three rooms of different geometry were simulated there, i.e. a reference room, a room elongated in relation to the reference room and a higher room in relation to the reference room. The obtained results demonstrate that the distribution of sound-absorbing material having the same surface can yield different results of reverberation time. The results depend on the location of the sound-absorbing material. The situation is completely different in a room with short reverberation time in which the reflective material was placed.
