This article explores the techniques for designing and managing the bibliographical database by using the Windows-based ISIS (WINISIS) library software package and specified the brief description of steps taken to create a database of all bibliographic materials as well as features of WINSIS are taken into consideration. The purpose of the paper is to be acquainted college librarians with the distinctive features of the Windows-based ISIS because Microsoft Windows is described as a graphical user environment, which gives the user more control over the work as well as enables the user to use more of the power of the computer. The author has applied practical methods to put forth the techniques for designing and managing the bibliographical database of Doctoral Theses by using WINISIS software package. The author has attempted to find out various aspects to describe the features of the various modules of Windows-based ISIS (WINSIS) library software which would be valuable for those college librarians who faced the crunch of budget and are distressed to manage databases, especially those colleges are situated in rural and tribal areas of India. Academic libraries play a key role in encouraging literacy and cultural interest in students, staff and the community. In the present-day world, theft and vandalism has become very common and a severe problem in academic college libraries. This research paper mainly deals with work of the library professionals in investigating the book theft, vandalism, mutilation activities, and planning polices to control these malicious activities. A structured online questionnaire was prepared for the college librarians to the gather data for the research study. The research data was collected from forty library professionals. Insufficient copies of text books are the main cause for vandalism agreed upon by the majority 85% of the respondents. 80% of the library professionals mentioned to have CCTV installation which can reduce malpractices in the libraries As per the research study 100% of respondents agree that by conducting orientation program, checking the requirements of the patrons, providing the necessary resources required by them, by using wire mesh for windows and having a single way for entry and exit will help in combating vandalistic activities in the academic libraries. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the level of awareness and usage of open source digital repository software (DRS). The paper also studies the factors, which influence the level of awareness and usage of different open source DRS by academic librarians in India. Design/methodology/approach: The study administered an online questionnaire to academic librarians in India to know their level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. The questionnaire aimed to gather the awareness and usage of open source DSR. In total, 374 complete responses were collected from academic librarians in India and the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Moreover, Fishers' exact test was used to identify whether factors i.e. qualification and participation in workshop/seminar influence the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. Findings: The results of the study reveal that the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS, namely, DSpace (Mean = 2.92, SD = 0.906) and Greenstone digital library software (GSDL) (Mean = 2.18, SD = 0.699) are high amongst the academic librarians in India. In total, 33.4%, 11.5% of the participants are using DSpace and GSDL, respectively, on regular basis. Fishers' exact test shows that factor(s) i.e. qualifications and participation in workshop/seminar affect the level of awareness and usage of open source DRS. The results show that there exits strong relation between participation in workshop/seminar and awareness and usage of DSpace (Fishers' exact test = 13.473, p < 0.05). Originality/value: This paper is the new type of study exploring level of awareness and usage of open source DRS by academic librarians in India. It identifies the factors that affect the awareness and usage of open source DRS. It is the first study to analyze the statistical significance between Indian librarians' participation in workshop/seminar and their level of awareness and usage of different open source DRS. The paper is discusses about the awareness of Awareness on an open Educational Resource among the library professionals in India. Due to the pandemic situation, online questionnaires in the Google form were used to collect the data from the library professionals who are working in higher educational institutions in India. The impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic situation, totally 270 responses were only received. The professional competency includes the necessary knowledge and skills to be possessed by any professionals. It is crucial in case of LIS professionals also. These competencies are based on the values of the organization and not only sharpen the ability of the professional but also contributes to organizational success in the long run. The purpose of this paper is to review the perception, expectations, preferences and current status of two competencies (technical and behavioural) that are required by the library professionals. Technical competencies (sometimes referred to as professional competencies) are the ability of a person to do their job comparatively and on the same level as other professionals in their field. Behavioural competencies (also referred to as personal competencies) encompass knowledge, skills, attitudes, and actions that distinguish excellent performers. The Social networking sites play a major role in promoting library services and products to its user community. In this Covid-19 Pandemic and lockdown period, physical communication was locked and online web communication technology proved a powerful tool to bridge the gap between the library and users. The users were unable to reach the libraries during this pandemic period. The librarians used social networking tools to provide information during this pandemic period. Purpose This paper aims to highlight the damage suffered by the prominent libraries of Kashmir during September 2014 floods. The work provide an insight about the response and recovery measures being taken during and after the floods respectively in ten prominent libraries of Jammu & Kashmir [six Academic libraries (S.P. College Library, Women’s College Library, Govt. Degree College Library – Bemina, Amar Singh College Library, Gandhi Memorial College Library and College of Education Library); three Special libraries (J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages Library – Srinagar, Govt. Medical College Library – Srinagar and J&K High Court Library) and one Public library (Sri Pratap Singh library)].Design/methodology/approach A variety of data collection tools and techniques such as interview, questionnaire, observation, etc., were used to collect the data. The collected data have been tabulated and analyzed to derive meaningful conclusions and findings as per the set objectives of the study.Findings The results reveal that although libraries in Kashmir are prone to disasters like floods; yet, none of the library seems to be prepared to bear or cope such a disaster. The findings provide a gloomy picture of libraries when it comes to the measures being taken by these libraries during and after the floods to protect their resources. The paper highlights the inefficiency and incapability of libraries (in terms of disaster management) by finding that most of the libraries are without a disaster response and recovery plan as well as a disaster response and recovery team. The study recommends that some tangible measures if taken can save precious resources hosted in libraries.Practical implications The current study can help the stakeholders to chalk out scientific and systematic policy and plans for library and information centers that can be executed with minimum of fuss and anarchy.Originality/value The study offers working knowledge to library professional on ground for effective management of assets and resources in pre- and post-disaster scenario. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of information communication technology (ICT) in 31 college libraries in Karnataka, India by investigating the ICT infrastructure, current status of library automation, barriers to implementation of library automation and also librarians' attitudes towards the use of ICT. Design/methodology/approach - Data-gathering tools used included questionnaire, observation and informal interview with selected college librarians. Findings - Application of ICT in Indian college libraries has not reached a very high level. Lack of budget, lack of manpower, lack of skilled staff and lack of training are the main constraints for not automating library activities. Even though library professionals have shown a positive attitude towards the use of ICT applications and library automation, they need extensive and appropriate training to make use of ICT tools. Indiana University's India Studies program is young, as is the Indiana University Libraries (IU Libraries) focus on India in the context of area studies programs. The process of crafting access to sources and developing library collections during a four-year period is the subject of the paper. The metaphor of making a patchwork quilt embellished with reflective mirrors representing virtual links is employed to emphasize the cooperative nature of acquisitions and collections in 2001, the year the IU Libraries migrated to a web-based catalog. Emphasis is placed on techniques for stretching resources. Uniform Resource Locaters (URLs) are included in footnotes to facilitate access to websites. This study aimed to determine the level of ICT self-efficacy among librarians working in the Libraries of Aligarh Muslim University Library System (AMULS). A structured questionnaire was used to conduct a quantitative survey. One of the researchers visited the Maulana Azad Library, Faculty and College Libraries, Departmental and Seminar Libraries, and School Libraries and distributed the questionnaire to librarians. On the other hand, librarians of the AMU regional centers' libraries were contacted through email to complete the survey form. Of the 123 questionnaires distributed to the librarians, 102 questionnaires were received with an 82.9% response rate. Librarians mostly view ICT as having a positive impact on library operations and services. The majority of librarians are skilled in using basic ICT applications. However, they lack the necessary skills to manage ICT-based library operations and services. Inadequate ICT application training and a lack of ICT infrastructure were cited as significant barriers to librarians obtaining ICT skills. This is the first study to examine ICT self-efficacy among librarians in an Indian university. Its findings could aid in the development of strategies for integrating new technologies into libraries. The results and discussions in this paper are based on the primary data collected from 188 library professionals in Karnataka through a pre-tested, structured, comprehensive questionnaire with a response rate of over 86%. This paper reports on the views and perceptions of University Library Professionals in Karnataka in respect of their job, job environment and organization in addition to identifying and analyzing the key individual, work and organizational characteristics influencing their job satisfaction. The Covid-19 pandemic has necessitated a tremendous shift in library services. Librarians need to equip themselves with the necessary skills to provide efficient services to the users. The objective of this study is to discover the digital skills possessed by the librarians and to evaluate the services that they are providing during the post pandemic era. Survey research was adopted and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the librarians working in the various higher education institutions in the State of Goa, India. Of the 64 institutions, 45 (70%) library professionals responded. The study found that most librarians lack the digital skills necessary. The paper examines the usage of library resources and services by LIS research scholars who are pursuing programmes of M.Phil. and Ph.D. under both full-time and part-time schemes in various universities/colleges in Tamil Nadu, India. A well-structured questionnaire was designed and distributed among research scholars to collect data relevant to the study. Of 125 questionnaires distributed, 103 were returned. It is found that the majority of research scholars have used Internet, electronic journals, online databases, and e-mail to collect information for their research. It is recommended that librarians/library staff should create awareness on library resources and services among research scholars and be trained in utilizing library resources and services. Purpose of this article is to examine the current state of four oldest general university libraries in Kerala. The study consisted of in-depth interview with four university librarians. The paper explores resources, services, infrastructures, funding, hours of opening, staffing, and library resource sharing. The study revealed that the university libraries in Kerala are hybrid type of libraries having dominance of print resources. The major share of electronic resources comes from UGC Infonet c-journal consortium. Though the individual performance of libraries in some areas reflects the mission of the university, they are not directed to the ultimate function of supporting teaching and research in the parent organization by supplying high quality material through advanced forms of information services. Technostress is the feeling of anxiety or mental pressure caused by working with multiple and rapidly changing computer systems, and mediating between these systems and the demands of the organisation, users, and personal life. This study investigated the nature and extent of technostress, the factors causing technostress, and the effect of it on professional and social lives among the library professionals in India. The study further explored the coping strategies to deal with technostress and gives a proposal for using the positive technology approach for technostress prevention and management. The study was carried through an online survey, with a structured questionnaire designed on a Google Forms. A total of 500 respondents were selected for the study over four designated domains, viz. library assistants, assistant librarians, deputy librarians, and librarians or university librarians. Ten preferred causes and coping strategies, and eight identified physiological and psychological symptoms they are subjected to for this study.
