The author discusses the economic conditions in Detroit, Michigan in 2013, and argues that the city could recover from bankruptcy by investing in infrastructure, managing public finances, and demolishing abandoned buildings and neighborhoods in order to consolidate the remaining population. Gentrification, governor Rick Snyder, and deindustrialization are discussed, as well as bankruptcy judge Steven Rhodes, real estate prices, and federal aid to Detroit.
