The author expresses his opinion on the state of health savings accounts (HSA) as of October 2007. He believes that in order to promote HSA, financial risk should be eliminated. He states that savings for health expenses should be encouraged equally with retirement savings. He says that it took 401(k) 20 years to recruit for participation, and fears that it will take that long for HSA funding to reach that point if action is not taken soon.
