Exploring the intersection of Gothic Medicine and Graphic Medicine in Ian William's graphic novel, The Bad Doctor, this article discusses the ways in which gothic aesthetics, particularly representations of the abject encounter, contribute to an understanding of mental illness whilst also interrogating dominant paradigms within medical discourse. Further, this study suggests that the gothic aspects of comics as a medium contribute to the effectiveness of Gothic Medicine as a genre by offering insight into visual and verbal representations of the body. Detailed close readings indicate that Williams's work draws a parallel between the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder on an individual level and the hostility toward the Gothic that formed a cornerstone in the foundation of modern medicine as a discipline. Among so many sketch writers in Urdu literature, Mushtaq Ahmad Yousafi has bearing his own style. With special reference of Urdu literature he is the founder of comic cum critical school of writing. His Pen portraits bear variant traits and qualities and include matchless comic, personal and psychological sketches writing. This Research Paper is attempt to prove that as a Portrait writer, he is an experienced writer. He has taken a detailed account of all the elements of sketch writing which includes appearance, important and representative events connected with the persona of the Pen portrait, unveiling internal and external actions. Mushtaq Ahmad Yousafi has resorted to employ comic and satirical devices to make his character sketches interesting to the readers. These devices include humor of situation, prose as well as poetical parody, anecdotes and borrowing vocabulary besides code switching, which help the readers to create of sense of attachment with the writer. This photographic essay documents an original-ish practices staged reading of Shakespeare's Othello. The essay argues that such productions, in their rough approximation of early modern roughness, potentially offer a critique of - at the least an alternative to - modern productions of Shakespeare that are rehearsed for minute nuance and psychological detail. Moreover, this style of production, the essay further argues, this embracing of what Jeremy Lopez has called early modern drama's 'potential to be ridiculous or inefficient or incompetent', has the potential to unearth aspects of Shakespeare's plays that might be elided or eschewed by more polished and normative contemporary productions.
