In this note, we use an extension of the trial equation method (also called the direct integral method) for partial differential equations with non-constant coefficients to derive exact solutions in the form of nonlinear waves. The model considered generalizes other classical models from physics like the Klein–Gordon equation, the $$(1 + 1)$$ -dimensional $$\phi ^4$$ -theory, the Fisher–Kolmogorov equation from population dynamics, and the Hodgkin–Huxley model which describes the propagation of electrical signals through the nervous system. As a particular example, the cylindrically symmetric cubic nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation is considered herein.

In this paper, we include simultaneously additive and multiplicative noise to the Pais–Uhlenbeck oscillator (PUO). We construct an integral of motion of the PUO with a time-dependent coefficient. Viewing the PUO as two coupled harmonic oscillators, we add noise to the corresponding frequencies. The systems are solved with the fourth-order stochastic Runge–Kutta method. Some graphics of the solutions and integrals of motion are presented, and the average deviations are calculated in order to quantify the noise influence.

In this note, we investigate the existence of exact solutions of a nonlinear partial differential equation with time-dependent coefficients that generalizes the well-known nonlinear wave model with damping. The model under consideration generalizes other classical models from physics, like the nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation, the $$(1 + 1)$$ -dimensional $$\phi ^4$$ -theory, the Fisher–Kolmogorov equation from population dynamics and the Hodgkin–Huxley model used in the description of the propagation of electric signals through the nervous system.
