1. Effects of Electropulsing Treatment on Microstructure and Properties of Cemented Carbide (WC-15Co)

Abstract: Electropulsing treatment (EPT) is a promising postprocessing method to optimize microstructure. In the present work, the EPT was applied to treat cemented carbide (WC-15Co). The electropulse-induced microstructural evolution in WC-15Co was investigated. Compared with the untreated sample, the transverse rupture strength and electrical resistance of the treated sample were reduced. However, there was no significant change in the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) microstructure. Therefore, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were carried out to detail the microstructural evolution. This process revealed that electropulsing could promote the recrystallization and the transition of e-Co to α-Co, as well as the evolution of microstructure. In addition, the dislocations in the treated sample were significantly fewer than those in the untreated sample.

2. Quingo: A Programming Framework for Heterogeneous Quantum-Classical Computing with NISQ Features

Abstract: The increasing control complexity of Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) systems underlines the necessity of integrating quantum hardware with quantum software. While mapping heterogeneous quantum-classical computing (HQCC) algorithms to NISQ hardware for execution, we observed a few dissatisfactions in quantum programming languages (QPLs), including difficult mapping to hardware, limited expressiveness, and counter-intuitive code. In addition, noisy qubits require repeatedly performed quantum experiments, which explicitly operate low-level configurations, such as pulses and timing of operations. This requirement is beyond the scope or capability of most existing QPLs. We summarize three execution models to depict the quantum-classical interaction of existing QPLs. Based on the refined HQCC model, we propose the Quingo framework to integrate and manage quantum-classical software and hardware to provide the programmability over HQCC applications and map them to NISQ hardware. We propose a six-phase quantum program life-cycle model matching the refined HQCC model, which is implemented by a runtime system. We also propose the Quingo programming language, an external domain-specific language highlighting timer-based timing control and opaque operation definition, which can be used to describe quantum experiments. We believe the Quingo framework could contribute to the clarification of key techniques in the design of future HQCC systems.

3. Overview of Low-Level Wind Shear Characteristics over Chinese Mainland

Abstract: The characteristics of low-level wind shear (LLWS) over the Chinese mainland were investigated using reports from pilots, air traffic controllers and the number of arriving/departing flights from 2016 to 2020. A preliminary analysis of the impact of the flights on the LLWS reports was carried out, and the cause of LLWS was also investigated. LLWS reports from most airports indicate that LLWS is most likely to occur within 600 m AGL with a higher density below 300 m, but with some exceptions, as wind shear is reported at higher altitudes at some airports. Airports with a high frequency of LLWS reports are almost all located in or around regions with complex topography and in regions with prevailing weather conditions favorable to LLWS. The variation in overall LLWS reports displays a steady increase from 2016 to 2019 and a decrease from 2019 to 2020, consistent with the trend in the number of flights, but with no evidently similar trends for individual airports. Seasonal variations in LLWS reports are observed and demonstrate no notable impact caused by the number of flights, implying that the main cause is the monthly variation of weather conditions. Diurnal variation is also evident and largely associated with the variation in number of flights during the busy period in addition to weather conditions, such as common strong winds, in the afternoon.

Abstract: Geosynchronous (GEO) spaceborne–airborne multistatic synthetic aperture radar (GEO MulSAR) is more flexible and accessible in remote sensing applications because of the high-altitude illuminator and the separation of the receivers and transmitter. In addition, the information obtained by the multiple airborne receivers can be fused to enhance the spatial resolution. However, the fused spatial resolution severely depends on the applied multistatic topology. To achieve the optimal fused spatial resolution by properly adjusting the imaging topology, a topology design method is proposed in this letter. First, the spatial resolution model of GEO MulSAR is given, and the dependence of the spatial resolution on the multistatic topology is analyzed in detail. Then, a topology design method is proposed to obtain the best multistatic topology that simultaneously optimizes the resolution cell area and resolution disequilibrium factor. Finally, the simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, and some insights into designing the multistatic topology are given.

Abstract: Programmable silicon photonics realizes universal control over quantum walks., Applications of quantum walks can depend on the number, exchange symmetry and indistinguishability of the particles involved, and the underlying graph structures where they move. Here, we show that silicon photonics, by exploiting an entanglement-driven scheme, can realize quantum walks with full control over all these properties in one device. The device we realize implements entangled two-photon quantum walks on any five-vertex graph, with continuously tunable particle exchange symmetry and indistinguishability. We show how this simulates single-particle walks on larger graphs, with size and geometry controlled by tuning the properties of the composite quantum walkers. We apply the device to quantum walk algorithms for searching vertices in graphs and testing for graph isomorphisms. In doing so, we implement up to 100 sampled time steps of quantum walk evolution on each of 292 different graphs. This opens the way to large-scale, programmable quantum walk processors for classically intractable applications.

Abstract: According to the relevant theories on duality relation, the summation of the extractable information of a quanton&rsquo, s wave and particle properties, which are characterized by interference visibility V and path distinguishability D, respectively, is limited. However, this relation is violated upon quantum superposition between the wave-state and particle-state of the quanton, which is caused by the quantum beamsplitter (QBS). Along another line, recent studies have considered quantum coherence C in the l1-norm measure as a candidate for the wave property. In this study, we propose an interferometer with a quantum which-path detector (QWPD) and examine the generalized duality relation based on C. We find that this relationship still holds under such a circumstance, but the interference between these two properties causes the full-particle property to be observed when the QWPD system is partially present. Using a pair of polarization-entangled photons, we experimentally verify our analysis in the two-path case. This study extends the duality relation between coherence and path information to the quantum case and reveals the effect of quantum superposition on the duality relation.

Abstract: Quantum state tomography is a key process in most quantum experiments. In this work, we employ quantum machine learning for state tomography. Given an unknown quantum state, it can be learned by maximizing the fidelity between the output of a variational quantum circuit and this state. The number of parameters of the variational quantum circuit grows linearly with the number of qubits and the circuit depth, so that only polynomial measurements are required, even for highly-entangled states. After that, a subsequent classical circuit simulator is used to transform the information of the target quantum state from the variational quantum circuit into a familiar format. We demonstrate our method by performing numerical simulations for the tomography of the ground state of a one-dimensional quantum spin chain, using a variational quantum circuit simulator. Our method is suitable for near-term quantum computing platforms, and could be used for relatively large-scale quantum state tomography for experimentally relevant quantum states., 7 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Boson sampling is a promising candidate for demonstrating quantum supremacy. The validation that involves judging whether a quantum setup outputs photons following the boson sampling model is an essential task in the experiments. However, the current validation methods may result in an incorrect conclusion being reached in realistic experiments, in which no ideally identical photons exist. Accordingly, this study proposes a slope-based approach, which is an extended Bayesian validation, to model the degree of photon indistinguishability. Through numerical simulations and performance evaluations, we demonstrate that the proposed approach can correctly validate boson sampling against the distribution of classical particles. In addition to offering a useful approach for validation, our research indicates that physicists should pay more attention to the quality of photon indistinguishability in boson sampling experiments.

9. Evanescent-wave coupling phase-matching for ultrawidely tunable frequency conversion in silicon-waveguide chips

Abstract: We propose and analyze an evanescent-wave coupling phase-matching method for ultrawidely tunable frequency conversion in coupled χ (3)-waveguides which will boost the nonlinear optical properties of photonic chips. Taking a silicon-waveguide as an example, we design a two-coupled-waveguide system which provides an efficient coupling coefficient for the compensation of phase-mismatch in spontaneous four-wave mixing, achieving widely tunable entangled photon pairs which are usually not accessible in χ (3)-waveguides. A tuning range of 1170−2300n m for TE-mode or 1400−1730n m for TM-mode entangled photons is realized when the inter-waveguide gap varies within the range of 400−900n m. The bandwidth of evanescent-wave coupling phase-matching is also characterized. This unique phase-matching strategy is in principle applicable to any χ (2)- and χ (3)-waveguide chip, qualifying them as broadband frequency converters which will have wide applications in nonlinear optics and quantum optics.

Abstract: Recent advances on quantum computing hardware have pushed quantum computing to the verge of quantum supremacy. Random quantum circuits are outstanding candidates to demonstrate quantum supremacy, which could be implemented on a quantum device that supports nearest-neighbour gate operations on a two-dimensional configuration. Here we show that using the Projected Entangled-Pair States algorithm, a tool to study two-dimensional strongly interacting many-body quantum systems, we can realize an effective general-purpose simulator of quantum algorithms. This technique allows to quantify precisely the memory usage and the time requirements of random quantum circuits, thus showing the frontier of quantum supremacy. With this approach we can compute the full wave-function of the system, from which single amplitudes can be sampled with unit fidelity. Applying this general quantum circuit simulator we measured amplitudes for a $7\times 7$ lattice of qubits with depth $1+40+1$ and double-precision numbers in 31 minutes using less than $93$ TB memory on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 1 table

Abstract: A switched-capacitor sigma–delta ( $\Sigma \Delta $ ) CMOS interface circuit for the closed-loop operation of a micromechanical capacitive accelerometer is presented in this paper. A distributed-feedback and feedforward topology is proposed to combine with a high-Q sensor element to obtain a sub- $\mu \text{g}/\surd $ Hz noise floor. The loop stability is implemented by damping the high-Q sensor element in the operation of electrostatic feedback force and heavy phase compensation, which introduces an extra zero to compensate the loop. Besides, the low-frequency loop gain is controlled by off-chip adjusting of distributed-feedback factor to keep the balance between the loop stability and noise shaping ability. The interface circuit is designed and fabricated in a standard 0.5- $\mu \text{m}$ CMOS process. The chip consumes 10 mW from a single 5-V supply. The measurement results show that the noise level is lower than 400 ng/ $\surd $ Hz, and the average noise equivalent acceleration density is 200 ng/ $\surd $ Hz over a 700-Hz bandwidth. The input range of the accelerometer is ±0.7 g resulting in a dynamic range of 125 dB over 1-Hz bandwidth. The measured sensitivity of 2.5 V/g is shown with a dc nonlinearity of 0.17%, and the bias instability is $19~\mu \text{g}$ .

Abstract: Superconducting nanowires single-photon detectors (SNSPDs or SSPDs) have emerged as an attractive single-photon detection technology with high performance. Two types of SNSPDs have been developed so far. One is the standard-fiber-coupled SNSPD with the light normally incident on the meandered nanowires, the other is waveguide-coupled SNSPD with the nanowires fabricated on the surface of the waveguide which guides photons while the fiber is coupled to the waveguide. Here we propose a new type of SNSPD integrated with microfiber. The photons are guided by a microfiber and evanescently absorbed by the nanowire of SNSPD when the nanowire is parallel and very close to the microfiber. The numerical simulation results show that the fiber to detector coupling efficiency can be close to unity with optimized device structure/parameters. With a minimal total NbN nanowire length of about 300 μ m, the absorption of the nanowire can reach 90%.

13. Beam quality measurement of high power laser by using an involute pinhole array

Abstract: A novel method for power-in-the-bucket (PIB) measurement of high power laser beams is proposed. The laser beam spot was first sampled by a rotating involute pinhole array and then collected by using a photodetector placed behind the pinholes. The spatial-temporal distribution and calibrated PIB curve of the laser beam can be obtained. The spatial and temporal resolution is 20 µm and 5 ms, respectively. Compared with conventional methods, the proposed measurement method is simple, convenient, and accurate, which is suitable for high power laser beams with jitter.

Abstract: This paper presents a multiprobe instrument for measuring the surface topography of microstructures. The instrument consists of a white light interference (WLI) microscope and an atomic force microscope (AFM), which work in conjunction with a precise positioning platform and can be switched freely by using a large-range kinematic axis mounted on the crossbeam of the supporting framework. To verify the performance of the instrument, a calibrated nanodimensional standard was measured. The results are given for the instrument and show good accuracy. To demonstrate the instrument’s ease of use, a suspension spring in a microcapacitive sensor was measured and characterized by using the two probes interactively.

Abstract: This paper presents two optical methods for measuring nano step height standards and discusses the deviations in the measurements in detail. A white light interference (WLI) microscope and spinning disk confocal (SDCF) microscope were used in the experiments. The effect of illumination intensity and the standard’s surface reflectivity were studied and analyzed. The surface properties of the step height standard were ameliorated using secondary coating technology. The experimental results demonstrated that the secondary coating technology effectively improved the measurement accuracy of the SDCF microscope. The WLI microscope measured accurately both before and after a secondary coating was applied.

Abstract: Aging of transformer oils could shorten the life of a transformer. Electrochemical behavior of the antioxidant 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) in an electrolyte containing transformer oils was investigated. Cyclic voltammograms were obtained from electrochemical tests under different temperatures, and the quasi-reversible behavior for BHT on glassy carbon electrode was confirmed by the characteristics of the peak currents. Abstract: Boson sampling is a promising candidate for quantum supremacy. It requires to sample from a complicated distribution, and is trusted to be intractable on classical computers. Among the various classical sampling methods, the Markov chain Monte Carlo method is an important approach to the simulation and validation of boson sampling. This method however suffers from the severe sample loss issue caused by the autocorrelation of the sample sequence. Addressing this, we propose the sample caching Markov chain Monte Carlo method that eliminates the correlations among the samples, and prevents the sample loss at the meantime, allowing more efficient simulation of boson sampling. Abstract: The effects of Ta on microstructural stability and mechanical properties of hot corrosion resistant Ni-based single crystal superalloys during long-term thermal exposure at 900 °C were investigated in the present study by comparing two experimental alloys with different content of Ta (6Ta and 6.7Ta). The results indicated that the addition of extra 0.7Ta increased the volume fraction of the γ′ precipitates and accelerated the coarsening rate of γ′ precipitates, facilitated the formation of misfit dislocation and precipitation of σ phases. The 6.7Ta alloy exhibited higher hardness and better stress rupture properties than 6Ta and the variations of stress rupture properties during the exposure for 6Ta and 6.7Ta alloy are significantly different. The effects of γ′ coarsening, formation of σ phases and misfit dislocations were taken into consideration to identify the reasons of variations of mechanical properties during the thermal exposure.

Abstract: Multipartite entanglement is one of the most prominent features of quantum mechanics and is the key ingredient in quantum information processing. Seeking for an advantageous way to generate it is of great value. Here we propose two different schemes to prepare multiphoton entangled states on a quantum photonic chip that are both based on the theory of entanglement on the graph. The first scheme is to construct graphs for multiphoton states by the network of spatially anti-bunching two-photon sources. The second one is to construct graphs by the linear beam-splitter network, which can generate W and Dicke states efficiently with simple structure. Both schemes can be scaled up in the photon number and can be reconfigured for different types of multiphoton states. This study supplies a systematic solution for the on-chip generation of multiphoton entangled states and will promote the practical development of multiphoton quantum technologies.

Abstract: Quantum key distribution (QKD) has been proved to be information-theoretically secure in theory. Unfortunately, the imperfect devices in practice compromise its security. Thus, to improve the security property of practical QKD systems, a commonly used method is to patch the loopholes in the existing QKD systems. However, in this work, we show an adversary's capability of exploiting the imperfection of the patch itself to bypass the patch. Specifically, we experimentally demonstrate that, in the detector under test, the patch of photocurrent monitor against the detector blinding attack can be defeated by the pulse illumination attack proposed in this paper. We also analyze the secret key rate under the pulse illumination attack, which theoretically confirmed that Eve can conduct the attack to learn the secret key. This work indicates the importance of inspecting the security loopholes in a detection unit to further understand their impacts on a QKD system. Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate a high-spectral-purity photon source by designing a dual-Mach–Zehnder-interferometer-coupled silicon ring resonator, wherein the linewidths of pump and signal (idler) resonances can be engineered independently. A high spectral purity of 95 % ± 1.5 % is obtained via a time-integrated g ( 2 ) correlation measurement, which exceeds the theoretical 93% bound of a traditional ring’s spontaneous four-wave-mixing photon source. This source also possesses high performance in other metrics including a measured coincidence of 9599 pairs/s and a preparation heralding efficiency of 52.4% at a relatively low pump power of 61 µW as well as high drop-to-through suppression of 20.2 dB. By overcoming the trade-off between spectral purity and brightness in the post-filtering way, such a method guarantees bright pure photons and will pave the way for development of on-chip quantum information processing with improved operation fidelity and efficiency.

Abstract: Synthetic aperture radar and its application in remote sensing have been an international focus in recent years. Feature extraction is a key step in SAR automatic target recognition. In this paper, 2DLSDDP is proposed for dimensional reduction and feature extraction, which is based on manifold learning theory. 2DLSDDP preserves not only local and class information of the original dataset, but also intrinsic geometric information of the image. In addition, it seeks a proper clustering direction in the neighborhood for each sample in feature extraction, which enhances the discriminative capability of the method. Compared to other SAR imagery feature extraction methods, the experiments based on MSTAR database show that the proposed method improves the recognition performance.

Abstract: High-performance superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) have facilitated numerous experiments and applications, particularly in the fields of modern quantum optics and quantum communication. Two kinds of optical coupling methods have thus far been developed for SNSPDs: one produces standard fiber-coupled SNSPDs in which the fibers vertically illuminate the meandered nanowires; the other produces waveguide-coupled SNSPDs in which nanowires are fabricated on the surface of a waveguide that guides photons, and the fibers are coupled to the waveguide. In this paper, we report on first experimental demonstration of a new type of SNSPD that is coupled with a microfiber (MF). Photons are guided by the MF and are evanescently absorbed by the nanowires of the SNSPD when the MF is placed on top of superconducting NbN nanowires. Room-temperature optical experiments indicated that this device has a coupling efficiency of up to 90% when a 1.3 μm-diameter MF is used for light with wavelength of 1550 nm. We were also able to demonstrate that our MF-coupled detector achieved system detection efficiencies of 50% and 20% at incident wavelengths of 1064 and 1550 nm, respectively, for a 2 μm-diameter MF at 2.2K. We expect that MF-coupled SNSPDs may show both high efficiency and broadband characteristics upon optimization and will be used for various novel applications, such as micro/nano-fiber optics.

Abstract: Quantum computing is a significant computing capability which is superior to classical computing because of its superposition feature. Distinguishing several quantum states from quantum algorithm outputs is often a vital computational task. In most cases, the quantum states tend to be non-orthogonal due to superposition; quantum mechanics has proved that perfect outcomes could not be achieved by measurements, forcing repetitive measurement. Hence, it is important to determine the optimum measuring method which requires fewer repetitions and a lower error rate. However, extending current measurement approaches mainly aiming at quantum cryptography to multi-qubit situations for quantum computing confronts challenges, such as conducting global operations which has considerable costs in the experimental realm. Therefore, in this study, we have proposed an optimum subsystem method to avoid these difficulties. We have provided an analysis of the comparison between the reduced subsystem method and the global minimum error method for two-qubit problems; the conclusions have been verified experimentally. The results showed that the subsystem method could effectively discriminate non-orthogonal two-qubit states, such as separable states, entangled pure states, and mixed states; the cost of the experimental process had been significantly reduced, in most circumstances, with acceptable error rate. We believe the optimal subsystem method is the most valuable and promising approach for multi-qubit quantum computing applications.

Abstract: Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared using the improved Hummer method, and mono-dispersed manganese cobalt nickel oxide (MCN) semiconductor nanometer particles were synthesized and coated with GO. Under 980-nm infrared laser excitation, this novel hybrid material demonstrated nanometer-scale surface plasmon resonance. The same mechanism has previously only been reported in good conductors. Although the MCN semiconductor is a negative temperature coefficient material, it can realize the same effect as a good conductor. The experimental data indicated that the hybrid material absorbed infrared laser photothermal energy with a transformation efficiency more than fourfold larger than that of pure mono-disperse MCN semiconductor nanopowder. The chain heat conductivity velocity of the hybrid material compares favorably with that of metal in that it alters the laser radiation energy heat transfer method on the surface. The hybrid material is one new kind of photothermal energy transfer material by new chain nanoscale surface plasmon mechanical, it can absorb sunlight and ultra-red light totally, and is one excellent energy transform and absorb material for sunlight.

Abstract: Electronic structures of electron- and hole-doped ${\mathrm{BaFe}}_{2}{\mathrm{As}}_{2}$ and nondoped ${\mathrm{SrFe}}_{2}{\mathrm{As}}_{2}$ have been studied systematically by x-ray emission spectroscopy at Fe and As $K$-absorption edges. The electron and hole doping causes slight increase of the integrated absolute difference (IAD) values of the Fe $K\ensuremath{\beta}$ x-ray emission spectra which correlate to the local magnetic moment. Pressure decreases the IAD values and local magnetic moment, and induces the lower-spin states in these compounds. The pre-edge peak intensity of the XAS spectra at the Fe $K$-absorption edge increases with pressure in both compounds. This indicates an increase of the Fe $3d$--As $4p$ hybridization. It was found that pressure induced a discontinuous increase of the prepeak intensity of the PFY-XAS spectra at the As $K$-absorption edge at low pressures in the ${\mathrm{BaFe}}_{2}{\mathrm{As}}_{2}$ systems. Our results may suggest that the Fe $3d$--As $4p$ hybridization plays a key role in suppressing the AFM order by the doping or pressure and fluctuation of the local magnetic moment and the electron-electron correlation may also play a role on the physical properties of the iron superconductors.

Abstract: Iris recognition is one of common biometric identification technologies, and an important part of iris recognition is iris location, whose precision directly affects the accuracy of iris recognition. Fitting the inner and outer edge of iris as an approximate circle is a common iris location method, which thereby can lead to fitting errors between the location result and the actual edge. In order to solve this problem, the paper proposes an iris location algorithm based on regional property and iterative searching. The pupil area is extracted using the regional attribute of the iris image, and the iris inner edge is fitted exactly by iterating, comparing and sorting the pupil edge points; then the outer edge location is completed in an iterative searching method on the basis of the extracted pupil centre and radius. The results of the experiment show that in this algorithm, more accurate iris inner edge location can be achieved and a range of comprehensive advantages of faster location speed and higher location accuracy are.

Abstract: A novel method for post-assembly magnetization of surface-mounted permanent-magnet motors is proposed. The magnetizing windings are directly wound on the outer surface of the permanent magnet (PM), and then assembled on surface of the rotor. The PM poles can be magnetized and demagnetized after assembly by the integrated magnetizing windings. Once the PM poles experience demagnetization fault, the magnetizing windings can magnetize the PM poles again without disassemble of the motor. In this paper, a 32-pole 20 kW surface-mounted PM motor is selected as the prototype, the integrated magnetizing windings are designed and the magnetizing test of a single pole is carried out.

Abstract: Hotspot relaxation time (τ th ) is one of the essential parameter which defines the maximum count rate of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs). We studied the τ th for NbN-based SNSPDs on various substrates using the two-photon detection method based on the pump-probe spectroscopy technique. We observed that τ th strongly increased with increasing bias current in the two-photon detection regime. In addition, the minimum hotspot relaxation time (τ th )min was not significantly affected by the bath temperature; this is different from the previous observations reported for WSi SNSPDs. In addition, a strong dependency of (τ th )min on the substrate was found. The minimum (τ th )min was 11.6 ps for SNSPDs made of 5.5-nm-thick NbN on MgO (100), whereas the maximum (τ th )min was 34.5 ps for SNSPDs made of 7.5-nm-thick NbN on Si (100). We presented a direct correlation between the values of τ th and degrees of disorder of NbN films grown on different substrates.

Abstract: Social network is becoming indispensable of people's lives in recent years. Community detection on real network continues to be a hotspot in data ming domain. As users may join multiple social circles and interest communities, and an abundance of information can be a reflection of users' preference, heterogeneous information fusion and overlapping community detection are two key issues researchers have to face. This paper presents an overlapping community detection model IF-COPRA that incorporated heterogeneous information into an integrated user adjacency diagram, based on which multi-label propagation and overlapping community detection are fulfilled. Before label propagation, user adjacency diagram is pruned to eliminate noisy relationship and vertices are processed in degree otder to enlarge the influence of high degree vertices and improve the robustness of IF-COPRA. Experiments on real world data sets demonstrate that IF-COPRA model performances better than baseline algorithms in most cases.

Abstract: All single-valent oxide spinels are insulators. The relatively small activation energy in the temperature dependence of resistivity in vanadate spinels led to the speculation that the spinels are near the crossover from localized to itinerant electronic behavior, and the crossover could be achieved under pressure. We have performed a number of experiments and calculations aimed at obtaining information regarding structural changes under high pressure for the whole series of vanadate spinels, as well as transport and magnetic properties under pressure for $\mathrm{Mg}{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$. We have also studied the crystal structure under pressure of wide-gap insulators $A\mathrm{C}{\mathrm{r}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ ($A=\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{Mg}$, Mn, Fe, Zn) for comparison. Moreover, the relationship between the bulk modulus and the cell volume of $A{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ ($A=\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{Mg}$, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn) has been simulated by a density functional theory calculation. The proximity of $A{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ spinels to the electronic state crossover under high pressure has been tested by three criteria: (1) a predicted critical V-V bond length, (2) the observation of a sign change in the pressure dependence of N\'eel temperature, and (3) measurement of a reduced bulk modulus. The obtained results indicate that, although the crossover from localized to itinerant \ensuremath{\pi} bonding $\text{V-}3d$ electrons in the $A{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ spinels is approached by reducing under pressure the V-V separation $R$, the critical separation ${R}_{\mathrm{c}}$ is not reached by 20 GPa in $\mathrm{Co}{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$, which has the smallest V-V separation in the $A{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ ($A=\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{Mg}$, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn) spinels.

Abstract: By designing and fabricating a series of dual-interferometer coupled silicon microrings, the coupling condition of the pump, signal, and idler beams can be engineered independently and then we carried out both the continuous-wave and pulse pumped four-wave mixing experiments to verify the dependence of conversion efficiency on the coupling conditions of the four interacting beams, respectively. Under the continuous-wave pump, the four-wave mixing efficiency gets maximized when both the pump and signal/idler beams are closely operated at the critical coupling point, while for the pulse pump case, the efficiency can be enhanced greatly when the pump and converted idler beams are all overcoupled. These experiment results agree well with our theoretical calculations. Our design provides a platform for explicitly characterizing the four-wave mixing under different pumping conditions, and offers a method to optimize the four-wave mixing, which will facilitate the development of on-chip all-optical signal processing with a higher efficiency or reduced pump power.

Abstract: Workforce migration plays a strong role in reallocating productive resources and provides important clues for understanding socio-economic dynamics. In this paper, we demonstrate that like a natural shock, the Spring Festival in China culturally drives workforce to travel between workplaces and hometowns, and hence the resulting trajectories in online social media open an unparallelled window to explore laws in nation-wide workforce migration. To understand the dynamics behind workforce migration between Chinese cities, a prediction model is built by profiling the tradeoff between interest articulation and cost elusion in migration decision. Interesting migration patterns are further revealed and economic implications beyond these patterns, like the filter effect of labour market and the agglomeration effect of core cities, are fully explored, which is of great help to understand different roles of Chinese cities in their own and regional economic developments. To our best knowledge, our work is among the few studies that can leverage the full data in a social media platform for comprehensive investigation.

Abstract: We perform a search for the exclusive radiative decay B0→γ, which is dominated by b̄d annihilation, in a sample of 124×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring at SLAC. No significant signal is seen. We set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B0→γ)

Abstract: We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays $\Dz\to e^+e^-$ and $\Dz\to\mu^+\mu^-$, and the lepton-flavor violating decay $\Dz\to e^\pm\mu^\mp$. The measurement is based on $122 {fb}^{-1}$ of data collected by the \babar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. No evidence is found for any of the decays. The upper limits on the branching fractions, at the 90 % confidence level, are $1.2\times 10^{-6}$ for $\Dz\to e^+e^-$, $1.3\times 10^{-6}$ for $\Dz\to\mu^+\mu^-$, and $8.1\times 10^{-7}$ for $\Dz\to e^\pm\mu^\mp$., Comment: Minor changes of the text and reference for the publication

Abstract: To help our understanding of the structural and superconducting transitions in ferropnictides, partial phonon density of states (PDOS) of iron in a single-crystal $\mathrm{SrF}{\mathrm{e}}_{2}\mathrm{A}{\mathrm{s}}_{2}$ pnictide have been investigated from both out-of-plane and in-plane polarizations with respect to the basal plane of the crystal structure using nuclear resonant inelastic x-ray scattering in a high-pressure diamond anvil cell at ambient temperature. The partial PDOS of iron in the pnictide crystal changes dramatically at approximately 8 GPa, which can be associated with the tetragonal (T) to collapsed tetragonal (CT) isostructural transition as evidenced in high-pressure x-ray diffraction measurements and theoretical calculations. Across the T-CT phase transition, analysis of the PDOS spectra shows a rapid stiffening of the optical phonon modes and a dramatic increase of the Lamb-M\"ossbauer factor (${f}_{\mathrm{LM}}$) and mean force constant which can be associated with the rapid decrease of the $c$ axis and the anomalous expansion of the $a$ axis. Theoretically calculated Fe partial PDOS and lattice parameters of $\mathrm{SrF}{\mathrm{e}}_{2}\mathrm{A}{\mathrm{s}}_{2}$ further reveal the strong correlation between the lattice parameters and phonons. Our results show that the T-CT transition can induce significant changes in the vibrational, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of $\mathrm{SrF}{\mathrm{e}}_{2}\mathrm{A}{\mathrm{s}}_{2}$ single crystal at high pressure.

Abstract: Determination of chemotherapy efficacy early during treatment would provide more opportunities for physicians to alter and adapt treatment plans. Diffuse optical technologies may be ideally suited to track early biological events following chemotherapy administration due to low cost and high information content. We evaluated the use of spatial frequency domain imaging (SFDI) to characterize a small animal tumor model in order to move towards the goal of endogenous optical monitoring of cancer therapy in a controlled preclinical setting. The effects of key measurement parameters including the choice of imaging spatial frequency and the repeatability of measurements were evaluated. The precision of SFDI optical property extractions over repeat mouse measurements was determined to be within 3.52% for move and replace experiments. Baseline optical properties and chromophore values as well as intratumor heterogeneity were evaluated over 25 tumors. Additionally, tumor growth and chemotherapy response were monitored over a 45 day longitudinal study in a small number of mice to demonstrate the ability of SFDI to track treatment effects. Optical scattering and oxygen saturation increased as much as 70% and 25% respectively in treated tumors, suggesting SFDI may be useful for preclinical tracking of cancer therapies.

Abstract: Geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar is able to provide ground illumination for airborne receivers with wide coverage and high temporal resolution. With unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as the receiving platform, the GEO-UAV bistatic SAR is capable of autonomously accomplishing the bistatic SAR mission in 3-D rough terrain by prespecifying a path for UAV receiver. In this paper, the 2-D spatial resolution of GEO-UAV bistatic SAR is first analysed. The path planning problem aims at identifying a set of optimal paths for the UAV receiver to travel through 3-D terrain environment that simultaneously guarantee the safety of the UAV and achieve SAR imaging with optimized performance during the flight. Then, the path planning is modeled as a multiobjective optimization problem and multiple feasible paths can be obtained by using the multiobjective evolutionary algorithms. Simulation results are given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract: The use of reliable tissue-simulating phantoms spans multiple applications in spectroscopic imaging including device calibration and testing of new imaging procedures. Three-dimensional (3D) printing allows for the possibility of optical phantoms with arbitrary geometries and spatially varying optical properties. We recently demonstrated the ability to 3D print tissue-simulating phantoms with customized absorption (μ a ) and reduced scattering (μ s `) by incorporating nigrosin, an absorbing dye, and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), a scattering agent, to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) during filament extrusion. A physiologically relevant range of μ a and μ s ` was demonstrated with high repeatability. We expand our prior work here by evaluating the effect of two important 3D-printing parameters, percent infill and layer height, on both μ a and μ s `. 2 cm 3 cubes were printed with percent infill ranging from 10% to 100% and layer height ranging from 0.15 to 0.40 mm. The range in μ a and μ s ` was 27.3% and 19.5% respectively for different percent infills at 471 nm. For varying layer height, the range in μ a and μ s ` was 27.8% and 15.4% respectively at 471 nm. These results indicate that percent infill and layer height substantially alter optical properties and should be carefully controlled during phantom fabrication. Through the use of inexpensive hobby-level printers, the fabrication of optical phantoms may advance the complexity and availability of fully customizable phantoms over multiple spatial scales. This technique exhibits a wider range of adaptability than other common methods of fabricating optical phantoms and may lead to improved instrument characterization and calibration.

Abstract: Boson sampling, thought to be intractable classically, can be solved by a quantum machine composed of merely generation, linear evolution and detection of single photons. Such an analog quantum computer for this specific problem provides a shortcut to boost the absolute computing power of quantum computers to beat classical ones. However, the capacity bound of classical computers for simulating boson sampling has not yet been identified. Here we simulate boson sampling on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer which occupied the first place in the world ranking six times from 2013 to 2016. We computed the permanent of the largest matrix using up to 312,000 CPU cores of Tianhe-2, and inferred from the current most efficient permanent-computing algorithms that an upper bound on the performance of Tianhe-2 is one 50-photon sample per ~100 min. Abstract: The fast development of superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD) in the past decade has enabled many advances in quantum information technology. The best system detection efficiency (SDE) record at 1550 nm wavelength was 93% obtained from SNSPD made of amorphous WSi which usually operated at sub-kelvin temperatures. We first demonstrate SNSPD made of polycrystalline NbN with SDE of 90.2% for 1550 nm wavelength at 2.1K, accessible with a compact cryocooler. The SDE saturated to 92.1% when the temperature was lowered to 1.8K. Abstract: Quantum computer promises to outperform classical computer fundamentally, due to its quantum superposition. Any operations to N qubits can be decomposed into several single-qubit operations and two-qubit controlled-NOT (CNOT) operations in theory. Linear optical quantum computing (LOQC) is one of the most prominent physical quantum systems, which has the advantage of long coherent time and convenience in implementing single qubit operations. However, the realization of two-qubit CNOT gate is the greatest challenge for LOQC, because two photons cannot directly interact with each other by nature. KLM protocol proves the feasibility of LOQC and spurs quantity of research on schematic design and experimental demonstration of CNOT gates by using linear quantum optics system. These researches are very important and nontrivial for LOQC, and this paper gives an overview of different schemes of the proposed CNOT gates and the experimental demonstration.

Abstract: Exclusive production of pi and K meson pairs in two photon collisions is measured with ALEPH data collected between 1992 and 2000. Cross-sections are presented as a function of cos theta* and invariant mass, for \ cos theta* \ < 0.6 and invariant masses between 2.0 and 6.0 GeV/c(2) (2.25 and 4.0 GeV/c(2)) for pions (kaons). The shape of the distributions are found to be well described by QCD predictions but the data have a significantly higher normalization. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V.

The analysis is based on the detection of isolated and energetic initial state radiation photons, produced in association with chargino pairs whose decay products have little visible energy. The number of candidate events observed is in agreement with that expected from Standard Model background sources. These results are combined with those of other direct searches for charginos, and a lower limit of 88 GeV/c2 at 95 % confidence level is derived for the chargino mass in the case of heavy sfermions, irrespective of the chargino-neutralino mass difference. The analysis is based on the detection of isolated and energetic initial state radiation photons, produced in association with chargino pairs whose decay products have little visible energy. The number of candidate events observed is in agreement with that expected from Standard Model background sources. These results are combined with those of other direct searches for charginos, and a lower limit of 88 GeV/c2 at 95 % confidence level is derived for the chargino mass in the case of heavy sfermions, irrespective of the chargino-neutralino mass difference.

Abstract: A search for the pseudoscalar meson eta_b is performed in two-photon interactions at LEP~2 with an integrated luminosity of 699 pb^-1 collected at e+e- centre-of-mass energies from 181 GeV to 209 GeV. One candidate event is found in the six-charged-particle final state and none in the four-charged-particle final state, in agreement with the total expected background of about one event. Upper limits of Gamma_gammagamma(eta_b) * BR(eta_b -> 4 charged particles) 6 charged particles) < 132 eV are obtained at 95% confidence level, which correspond to 95% confidence level upper limits of 9.0% and 25% on these branching ratios.

Abstract: Low timing jitter is a unique merit of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) for time-correlated applications. Quantitative analysis was performed for the SNSPD system. Aided by an oscilloscope with an optimal signal amplitude, we were able to measure a full width at half-maximum system timing jitter as low as 14.2 ps for a high-switching-current SNSPD using a room-temperature low-noise amplifier. When using a time-correlated single-photon counting module, the system timing jitter was 17.3 ps. The detector's intrinsic timing jitter was estimated at ∼12.0 ps.

Abstract: Magnetite exhibits unique electronic, magnetic and structural properties in extreme conditions that are of great research interest. Previous studies have suggested a number of transitional models, although the nature of magnetite at high pressure remains elusive. We have studied a highly stoichiometric magnetite using inelastic X-ray scattering, X-ray diffraction and emission and Raman spectroscopies in diamond anvil cells up to ~20 GPa, while complementary electrical conductivity measurements were conducted in a cubic anvil cell up to 8.5 GPa. We have observed an elastic softening in the diagonal elastic constants (C11 and C44) and a hardening in the off-diagonal constant (C12) at ~8 GPa where significant elastic anisotropies in longitudinal and transverse acoustic waves occur, especially along the [110] direction. An additional vibrational Raman band between the A1g and T2g modes was also detected at the transition pressure. These abnormal elastic and vibrational behaviors of magnetite are attributed to the occurrence of the octahedrally-coordinated Fe2+-Fe3+-Fe2+ ions charge-ordering along the [110] direction in the inverse spinel structure. We propose a new phase diagram of magnetite in which the temperature for the metal-insulator and distorted structural transitions decreases with increasing pressure while the charge-ordering transition occurs at ~8 GPa and room temperature.

Abstract: Searches for neutral Higgs bosons are performed with the 237 pb-1 of data collected in 1999 by the ALEPH detector at LEP, for centre-of-mass energies between 191.6 and 201.6 GeV. These searches apply to Higgs bosons within the context of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) as well as to invisibly decaying Higgs bosons. No evidence of a signal is seen. A lower limit on the mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson of 107.7 GeV/c2 at 95% confidence level is set. In the MSSM, lower limits of 91.2 and 91.6 GeV/c2 are derived for the masses of the neutral Higgs bosons h and A, respectively. For a Higgs boson decaying invisibly and produced with the Standard Model cross section, masses below 106.4 GeV/c2 are excluded., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Abstract: We demonstrate a bias-free true random number generator (TRNG) based on single photon detection using superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs). By comparing the photon detection signals of two consecutive laser pulses and extracting the random bits by the von Neumann correction method, we achieved a random number generation efficiency of 25% (a generation rate of 3.75 Mbit s−1 at a system clock rate of 15 MHz). Using a multi-channel superconducting nanowire single photon detector system with controllable pulse signal amplitudes, we detected the single photons with photon number resolution and positional sensitivity, which could further increase the random number generation efficiency. In a three-channel SNSPD system, the random number bit generation efficiency was improved to 75%, corresponding to a generation rate of 7.5 Mbit s−1 with a 10 MHz system clock rate. All of the generated random numbers successfully passed the statistical test suite.

Abstract: We report results from an updated study of the suppressed decays ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ followed by $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, where ${D}^{(*)}$ indicates a ${D}^{(*)0}$ or a ${\overline{D}}^{(*)0}$ meson, and ${D}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ or ${D}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D\ensuremath{\gamma}$. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ due to interference between the $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}c$ transition ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{(*)0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ followed by the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and the $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}u$ transition ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{(*)0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ followed by the Cabibbo-favored decay ${\overline{D}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. We also report an analysis of the decay ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{(*)}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ with the $D$ decaying into the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed mode $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. Our results are based on $467\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}{10}^{6}$ $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}B\overline{B}$ decays collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We measure the ratios ${\mathcal{R}}^{(*)}$ of the suppressed ($[{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{]}_{D}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}/{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$) to favored ($[{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{]}_{D}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}/{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$) branching fractions as well as the $CP$ asymmetries ${\mathcal{A}}^{(*)}$ of those modes. We see indications of signals for the ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}_{D{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}}^{*}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ suppressed modes, with statistical significances of 2.1 and $2.2\ensuremath{\sigma}$, respectively, and we measure: ${\mathcal{R}}_{DK}=(1.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}2},\phantom{\rule{2em}{0ex}}{\mathcal{A}}_{DK}=\ensuremath{-}0.86\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.47}_{\ensuremath{-}0.16}^{+0.12}$, ${\mathcal{R}}_{(D{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})K}^{*}=(1.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.4)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}2},\phantom{\rule{2em}{0ex}}{\mathcal{A}}_{(D{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})K}^{*}=+0.77\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.35\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.12,\phantom{\rule{2em}{0ex}}{\mathcal{R}}_{(D\ensuremath{\gamma})K}^{*}=(1.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.8)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}2},{\mathcal{A}}_{(D\ensuremath{\gamma})K}^{*}=+0.36\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.94}_{\ensuremath{-}0.41}^{+0.25}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We use a frequentist approach to obtain the magnitude of the ratio ${r}_{B}\ensuremath{\equiv}|A({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}})/A({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}})|=({9.5}_{\ensuremath{-}4.1}^{+5.1})%$, with ${r}_{B}l16.7%$ at 90% confidence level. In the case of ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ we find ${r}_{B}^{*}\ensuremath{\equiv}|A({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{*0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}})/A({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}})|=({9.6}_{\ensuremath{-}5.1}^{+3.5})%$, with ${r}_{B}^{*}l15.0%$ at 90% confidence level.
