Abstract: International audience; High-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy of N18 is performed with the Advanced GAmma Tracking Array, following deep-inelastic processes induced by an O18 beam on a Ta181 target. Six states are newly identified, which together with the three known excitations exhaust all negative-parity excited states expected in N18 below the neutron threshold. Spin and parities are proposed for all located states on the basis of decay branchings and comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations performed in the p-sd space, with the YSOX interaction. Of particular interest is the location of the 01− and 12− excitations, which provide strong constrains for cross-shell p-sd matrix elements based on realistic interactions and help to simultaneously reproduce the ground and first-excited states in N16 and N18, for the first time. Understanding the N18 structure may also have significant impact on neutron-capture cross-section calculations in r-process modeling including light neutron-rich nuclei.

Abstract: Excited states of 17N, 18N and 19N were investigated through the measurement of gamma rays, following their population via deep-inelastic reactions induced by an 18O beam (7 MeV/u) on a thick 181Ta target. The experimental setup comprised the AGATA+PARIS detection system, coupled to the VAMOS++ magnetic spectrometer. In the 17N nucleus, the analysis of gamma-ray transitions de-exciting two states around 4-5 MeV clearly pointed to discrepancies with the lifetime values reported in literature. Three new gamma rays were observed in 18N at the energies of 1662.3 (3) keV, 2073.4 (8) keV and 2300.9 (8) keV, and hints for other two new transitions around 1566 keV and 1720 keV were found. In addition, a new transition with energy of 2489.7 (8) keV was observed in 19N.

Abstract: Level lifetimes of the yrast (5/2(-)) to 13/2(-) states in the neutron-rich nucleus Ti-53, produced in a multinucleon-transfer reaction, have been measured for the first time. The recoil distance Doppler-shift method was employed and lifetimes of the excited states were extracted by a lineshape analysis aided by GEANT4-based Monte-Carlo simulations. The experiment was performed at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds facility in Caen, France, by using the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array for the gamma-ray detection coupled to the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer for an event-by-event particle identification and the Cologne plunger for deep-inelastic reactions. Reduced transition probabilities, deduced from the lifetimes, give new information on the nuclear structure of Ti-53, and are used to benchmark different shell-model calculations using established interactions in the f p shell.

Abstract: International audience; Excited states of neutron rich Iodine isotopes 130−134 I above the high spin isomers have been identified using prompt-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy. The Iodine isotopes have been produced as fission fragments of fusion-fission and transfer induced fission of 9 Be(238 U, f) at a beam energy of 6.2 MeV/u. The complete (A, Z) identification was obtained using the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer VAMOS++. The AGATA γ-ray tracking array was used to detect the prompt γ rays while the delayed γ rays (in the time range of 100 ns to 200 µs) from the isomeric states were identified by the EXOGAM segmented Clover detectors, placed behind the focal plane of VAMOS++ spectrometer. The high spin states above the (8 −) isomers in 130,132 I have been populated for the first time and a new isomer in 132 I has been identified. New γ-ray transition has also been assigned to the level structure of 134 I. Prompt transitions above the 19/2 − isomer have been identified in 131,133 I, for the first time. The level structures are interpreted in terms of the systematics of odd-Z nuclei above Z = 50 shell closure and large scale shell model calculations.

The interaction of the proton hole/particle in the above-mentioned orbitals with neutrons in the νh11/2 orbital is an important prerequisite to the understanding of the nuclear structure near N=82 and the νπ interaction. Purpose: To explore the structural similarity between the high-spin isomeric states in In (Z=49), Sn (Z=50), and Sb (Z=51) isotopes from a microscopic point of view. In addition, to understand the role of a proton hole or particle in the spin-orbit partner orbitals, πg9/2 and πg7/2, respectively, with neutron holes in the νh11/2 orbital on these aforementioned isomers. Methods: The fusion and transfer induced fission reaction Be9(U238, f) with 6.2 MeV/u beam energy, using a unique setup consisting of AGATA, VAMOS++, and EXOGAM detectors, was used to populate through the fission process and study the neutron-rich In119,121 isotopes. This setup enabled the prompt-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of isotopes in the time range of 100ns-200μs. Results: In the odd-AIn119,121 isotopes, indications of a short half-life 19/2- isomeric state, in addition to the previously known 25/2+ isomeric state, were observed from the present data. Further, new prompt transitions above the 25/2+ isomer in In121 were identified along with reevaluation of its half-life. Conclusions: The experimental data were compared with the theoretical results obtained in the framework of large-scale shell-model calculations in a restricted model space. The (πg9/2νh11/2;I|Ĥ|πg9/2νh11/2;I) two-body matrix elements of residual interaction were modified to explain the excitation energies and the B(E2) transition probabilities in the neutron-rich In isotopes. The (i) decreasing trend of E(29/2+)-E(25/2+) in odd-In (with dominant configuration πg9/2-1νh11/2-2 and maximum aligned spin of 29/2+) and (ii) increasing trend of E(27/2+)-E(23/2+) in odd-Sb (with dominant configuration πg7/2+1νh11/2-2 and maximum aligned spin of 27/2+) with increasing neutron number could be understood as a consequence of hole-hole and particle-hole interactions, respectively.

Abstract: The simultaneous measurement of the isotopic fission-fragment yields and fission-fragment velocities of U239 has been performed for the first time. The U239 fissioning system was produced in one-neutron transfer reactions between a U238 beam at 5.88 MeV/nucleon and a Be9 target. The combination of inverse kinematics at low energy and the use of the VAMOS++ spectrometer at the GANIL facility allows the isotopic identification of the full fission-fragment distribution and their velocity in the reference frame of the fissioning system. The proton and neutron content of the fragments at scission, their total kinetic and total excitation energy, as well as the neutron multiplicity were determined. Information from the scission point configuration is obtained from these observables and the correlation between them. The role of the octupole-deformed proton and neutron shells in the fission-fragment production is discussed.

Abstract: International audience; The 1+/n+ method, based on an ECRIS charge breeder (CB) originally developed at the LPSC laboratory, is now implemented at GANIL for the production of Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs). Prior to its installation in the middle of the low energy beam line of the SPIRAL1 facility, the 1+/n+ system CB has been modified based on the experiments performed on the CARIBU Facility at Argone National Laboratory. Later, it has been tested at the 1+/n+ LPSC test bench to validate its operation performances. Charge breeding efficiencies as well as charge breeding times have been measured for noble gases and alkali elements. The commissioning phase started at GANIL in the second half-year of 2017. It consisted of a stepwise process to test the upgrade of the SPIRAL1 facility from simple validation [operation of Charge Breeder (CB) as a stand-alone source] up to the production of the first 1+/n+ RIB. Thus, this year, a 38mK/38K RIB has been successfully delivered to a physics experiment over a period of 1 week. The yields on the physics target were in the range of ∼2–4 × 106 pps at 9 MeV/u. The target ion source system (TISS) was made of a FEBIAD ion source connected to a hot graphite target. This is the first time a RIB is accelerated with a cyclotron with the 1+/n+ method. Moreover, a production test with the FEBIAD TISS has confirmed the yields measured previously, which validates the extension of the GANIL/SPIRAL1 catalog for a number of isotopes. In parallel, R&D is being performed on new TISSs (e.g., a fast release one, using surface ionization source). Targets are also a subject of ongoing R&D for yield and release time optimization. This contribution will present the new acceleration scheme of the SPIRAL1 facility, which largely extends the palette of RIBs available for nuclear physicists. It will be compared to the ones used at similar ISOL facilities. This facility is more than a simple ISOL facility, and an overview of the new opportunities offered by the upgraded installation will be also discussed.

Abstract: The high-spin states of the neutron-rich Ga81, with three valence protons outside a Ni78 core, were measured. The measurement involved prompt γ-ray spectroscopy of fission fragments isotopically identified using the combination of the variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++) and the advanced gamma tracking array (AGATA). The new γ-ray transitions, observed in coincidence with Ga81 ions, and the corresponding level scheme do not confirm the high-spin levels reported earlier. The newly observed high-spin states in Ga81 are interpreted using the results of state-of-the-art large-scale shell model (LSSM) calculations. The lower excitation energy levels are understood as resulting from the recoupling of three valence protons to the closed doubly magic core, while the highest excitation energy levels correspond to excitations of the magic N=50 neutron core. These results support the doubly magic character of Ni78 and the persistence of the N=50 shell closure but also highlight the presence of strong proton-neutron correlations associated with the promotion of neutrons across the magic N=50 shell gap, only few nucleons away from Ni78.

Abstract: International audience; The use of the inverse kinematics technique and a magnetic spectrometer permits the simultaneous measurement of proton and neutron content of full fission fragment distributions. This paper reports new measurements of five fissioning systems—U238,Np239,Pu240,Cm244, and Cf250—produced in inelastic scattering, transfer, and fusion reactions at different excitation energies. As a result, isotopic, elemental, and isotonic fission yields are presented. The contribution of the different fission modes and the proton even-odd effect are studied. Structure effects are investigated by means of the neutron excess and the total neutron multiplicity as a function of the fragment atomic number.

Abstract: The Super Separator Spectrometer (S3S3) facility is developed in the framework of the SPIRAL2 project [1]. S3S3 has been designed to extend the capability of the facility to perform experiments with extremely low cross sections, taking advantage of the very high intensity stable beams of the superconducting linear accelerator of SPIRAL2. It will mainly use fusion-evaporation reactions to reach extreme regions of the nuclear chart: new opportunities will be opened for super-heavy element studies and spectroscopy at and beyond the driplines. In addition to our previous article (Dechery et al. [2]) introducing the optical layout of the spectrometer and the expected performances, this article will present the current status of the main elements of the facility: the target station, the superconducting multipole, and the magnetic and electric dipoles, with a special emphasis on the status of the detection system SIRIUS and on the low-energy branch which includes the REGLIS3 system. S3S3 will also be a source of low energy radioactive isotopes for delivery to the DESIR facility.

Abstract: International audience; The single bunch selector of the SPIRAL2 accelerator allows reducing the bunch rate to the target of the Neutron For Science (NFS) facility in view of time of flight experiments. It involves two processes: a static dipole magnet deviates the beam on a 7.3 kW scraper, while the electric field of two high voltage travelling wave pulses maintains the selected bunch on axis at the required repetition rate. This original principle, named “inverted duty cycle”, was chosen to provide reasonable power requirement for the pulse generators, high rejection of the side bunches, and safe operation for the experimental target. This paper gives an overview of the whole system, recalls the main component design issues and performances and reports the successful commissioning results with the first 0.2 and 5 mA proton beams.

Abstract: Lifetime measurements of excited states of the light N = 52 isotones 88 Kr , 86 Se , and 84 Ge have been performed, using the recoil distance Doppler shift method and VAMOS and AGATA spectrometers for particle identification and gamma spectroscopy, respectively. The reduced electric quadrupole transition probabilities B ( E 2 ; 2 + → 0 + ) and B ( E 2 ; 4 + → 2 + ) were obtained for the first time for the hard-to-reach 84 Ge . While the B ( E 2 ; 2 + → 0 + ) values of 88 Kr , 86 Se saturate the maximum quadrupole collectivity offered by the natural valence ( 3 s , 2 d , 1 g 7 / 2 , 1 h 11 / 2 ) space of an inert 78 Ni core, the value obtained for 84 Ge largely exceeds it, suggesting that shape coexistence phenomena, previously reported at N ≲ 49 , extend beyond N = 50 . The onset of collectivity at Z = 32 is understood as due to a pseudo-SU(3) organization of the proton single-particle sequence reflecting a clear manifestation of pseudospin symmetry. It is realized that the latter provides actually reliable guidance for understanding the observed proton and neutron single particle structure in the whole medium-mass region, from Ni to Sn, pointing towards the important role of the isovector-vector ρ field in shell-structure evolution.

Abstract: Since 2001, the SPIRAL 1 facility has been one of the pioneering facilities in ISOL techniques for reaccelerating radioactive ion beams: the fragmentation of the heavy ion beams of GANIL on graphite targets and subsequent ionization in the Nanogan ECR ion source has permitted to deliver beams of gaseous elements (He, N, O, F, Ne, Ar, Kr) to numerous experiments. Thanks to the CIME cyclotron, energies up to 20 AMeV could be obtained. In 2014, the facility was stopped to undertake a major upgrade, with the aim to extend the production capabilities of SPIRAL 1 to a number of new elements. This upgrade, which is presently under commissioning, consists in the integration of an ECR booster in the SPIRAL 1 beam line to charge breed the beam of different 1+ sources. A FEBIAD source (the so-called VADIS from ISOLDE) was chosen to be the future workhorse for producing many metallic ion beams. The charge breeder is an upgraded version of the Phoenix booster which was previously tested in ISOLDE. The performances of the aforementioned ingredients of the upgrade (targets, 1+ source and charge breeder) have been and are still being optimized in the frame of different European projects (EMILIE, ENSAR and ENSAR2). The upgraded SPIRAL 1 facility will provide soon its first new beams for physics and further beam development are undertaken to prepare for the next AGATA campaign. Abstract: International audience; An experiment aiming at measuring lifetimes of the second 2+ excited states in neutron-rich C and O isotopes was recently performed at the GANIL laboratory, in France. In these nuclei, recent ab initio calculations provide a detailed description of the nuclear excited states, predicting a strong sensitivity of the electromagnetic transition probabilities to the details of the nucleon–nucleon interactions, especially in connection with the role played by the three-body (NNN) forces. Thus, the measurement of 2 + states lifetimes in this region will be a stringent test of the importance of including the NNN forces in describing the electromagnetic properties of selected nuclear states. This contribution reports on the status of the experimental analysis for the case of lifetimes in 20O.

Abstract: Transfer- and fusion-induced fission in inverse kinematics has proved to be a powerful tool to investigate nuclear fission, widening information on the fission fragments and access to unstable fissioning systems with respect to other experimental approaches. An experimental campaign is being carried out at GANIL with this technique since 2008. In these experiments, a beam of U-238, accelerated to 6.1 MeV/u, impinges on a C-12 target. Fissioning systems from U to Cf are populated through inelastic scattering, transfer, and fusion reactions, with excitation energies that range from a few MeV up to 46 MeV. The use of inverse kinematics, the SPIDER telescope, and the VAMOS spectrometer allow the characterization of the fissioning system in terms of mass, nuclear charge, and excitation energy, and the isotopic identification of the full fragment distribution. This work reports on new data from the second experiment of the campaign on fission-fragment yields of the heavy actinides U-238, Np-239, Pu-240, Cm-244, and Cf-250, which are of interest from both fundamental and application points of view.

Abstract: A new experimental setup to measure prompt-delayed $\gamma$ -ray coincidences from isotopically identified fission fragments, over a wide time range of 100ns-200μ s, is presented. The fission fragments were isotopically identified, on an event-by-event basis, using the VAMOS++ large acceptance spectrometer. The prompt $\gamma$ rays emitted at the target position and corresponding delayed $ \gamma$ rays emitted at the focal plane of the spectrometer were detected using, respectively, thirty two crystals of the AGATA $\gamma$ -ray tracking array and seven EXOGAM HPGe Clover detectors. Fission fragments produced in fusion and transfer-induced fission reactions, using a 238U beam at an energy of 6.2 MeV/u impinging on a 9Be target, were used to characterize and qualify the performance of the detection system.

Abstract: Prompt γ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich $^{96}$Kr, produced in transfer- and fusion-induced fission reactions, has been performed using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array and the VAMOS++ spectrometer. A second excited state, assigned to $J^π$ = $4^+$, is observed for the first time, and a previously reported level energy of the first 2+ excited state is confirmed. The measured energy ratio R4/2 = E($4^+$)/E($2^+$) = 2.12(1) indicates that this nucleus does not show a well-developed collectivity contrary to that seen in heavier N = 60 isotones. This new measurement highlights an abrupt transition of the degree of collectivity as a function of the proton number at Z = 36, of similar amplitude to that observed at N = 60 at higher Z values. A possible reason for this abrupt transition could be related to the insufficient proton excitations in the g9/2, d5/2, and s1/2 orbitals to generate strong quadrupole correlations or to the coexistence of competing different shapes. An unexpected continuous decrease of R4/2 as a function of the neutron number up to N = 60 is also evidenced. This measurement establishes the Kr isotopic chain as the low-Z boundary of the island of deformation for N = 60 isotones. A comparison with available theoretical predictions using different beyond mean-field approaches shows that these models fail to reproduce the abrupt transitions at N = 60 and Z = 36.

Abstract: International audience; The multi-nucleon transfer reaction mechanism was used to produce and study nuclei in the vicinity of 208Pb. This mass region is a test case for the nuclear shell model. The mass identification of the fragments was performed with the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer VAMOS++ coupled to the AGATA γ-tracking array. This experiment aimed to determine both lifetimes and gyromagnetic ratios of excited states with the Cologne plunger device. The analysis indicates promising results with the possibility to determine several new lifetimes in this region.

Abstract: The low-lying high-spin yrast band structure of neutron-rich 113 , 118 – 121 Ag has been established for the first time using prompt γ-ray spectroscopy of isotopically identified fission fragments produced in the 9Be(238U, fγ) fusion- and transfer-induced fission processes. The newly obtained level energies follow the systematics of the neighboring isotopes. The sequences of levels exhibit an energy inheritance from states in the corresponding Cd core. A striking constancy of a large signature splitting in odd-A Ag throughout the long chain of isotopes with 50 N 82 and a signature inversion in even-A Ag isotopes, which are indications of triaxiality, were evidenced. These observed features were reproduced by large-scale shell-model calculations with a spherical basis for the first time in the Ag isotopic chain, revealing microscopically their complex nature with severely broken seniority ordering. The essential features of the observed signature splitting were further examined in the light of simplified, two-orbital shell-model calculations including only two intruder orbitals π g 9 / 2 and ν h 11 / 2 from two consecutive shells above Z = 50 and N = 82 for protons and neutrons respectively, resulting in the π g 9 / 2 − 3 × ν h 11 / 2 m configurations. The newly established bands were understood as fairly pure, built mainly on unique-parity intruder configurations and coupled to the basic states of the Cd core.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS++/EXOGAM; International audience; The rotational response as a function of neutron–proton asymmetry for the very neutron-rich isotopes of Rh (116–119Rh) has been obtained from the measurement of prompt γ rays from isotopically identified fragments, produced in fission reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The measured “signature” splitting of the yrast bands, when compared with the Triaxial Projected Shell Model (TPSM) calculations, shows the need for large, nearly constant, triaxial deformations. The present results are compared with global predictions for the existence of non axial shapes in the periodic table in the case of very neutron-rich nuclei Rh isotopes. The predicted trend of a second local maximum for a triaxial shape around N∼74 is not found.

Abstract: The conference in EPJ Web of Conferences entitled "ND 2016 International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology", ISBN: 978-2-7598-9020-0; International audience; Transfer-and fusion-induced fission in inverse kinematics was proven to be a powerful tool to investigate nuclear fission, widening the information of the fission fragments and the access to unstable fissioning systems with respect to other experimental approaches. An experimental campaign for fission investigation has being carried out at GANIL with this technique since 2008. In these experiments, a beam of 238 U, accelerated to 6.1 MeV/u, impinges on a 12 C target. Fissioning systems from U to Cf are populated through transfer and fusion reactions, with excitation energies that range from few MeV up to 46 MeV. The use of inverse kinematics, the SPIDER telescope, and the VAMOS spectrometer permitted the characterization of the fissioning system in terms of mass, nuclear charge, and excitation energy, and the isotopic identification of the full fragment distribution. The neutron excess, the total neutron multiplicity, and the even-odd staggering in the nuclear charge of fission fragments are presented as a function of the excitation energy of the fissioning system. Structure effects are observed at Z∼50 and Z∼55, where their impact evolves with the excitation energy.

Abstract: Prompt γ rays of isotopically identified neutron-rich isotopes of Cd, produced in transfer- and fusion-fission induced by the 238U beam at 6.2 MeV/u on a 9Be target, were measured using the EXOGAM γ -ray detector array and the magnetic spectrometer VAMOS++. New results for the level scheme of 121,123Cd, extending to relatively large angular momentum are reported. The energy levels above 2-MeV excitation energy, are found to differ from those observed in lighter isotopes of Cd indicating a change in structure in these more neutron-rich nuclei. These states are not explained by large-scale shell model calculations, that explain well the structure of the underlying Sn isotopes and the neighboring even-A Cd isotopes. The present data, especially for the odd-A nuclei, point to a deficiency in the matrix elements related to the p-n residual interaction and provide a new domain for testing widely used shell model interactions employed for understanding the evolution of structure in neutron-rich nuclei.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS/EXOGAM; International audience; Lifetimes of short-lived excited states in a wide range of neutron-richfission fragments were measured using the recoil distance Doppler shift(RDDS) technique, which was applied to fusion-fission reactions in inversekinematics for the first time. The fission fragments were identified eventby-event in mass, charge, and atomic number using the VAMOS magneticspectrometer at GANIL. Gamma rays originating from the fission fragmentswere measured with the EXOGAM array of Ge Clover detectors aroundthe target position. Using a degrader, the change in the Doppler shiftof the $\gamma$ ray allows the application of the RDDS method. Details of theexperimental technique will be discussed and the status for the ongoinganalysis for odd-mass yttrium isotopes will be presented.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS; International audience; First preliminary results of fragments distribution as a function of theexcitation energy for different fissioning systems from U to Cm and 250Cfare presented. A new method based on inverse kinematics to study transferinducedfission of minor actinides was carried out in GANIL in 2008, andagain in 2011. In these experiments, a 238U beam at 6.1 AMeV impingedon a carbon target to produce fissioning systems by multi-nucleon transferreactions, resulting in the first experiments accessing the full identificationof a collection of fissioning systems and their corresponding fission fragmentsdistribution. The excitation energy is deduced from the detection ofthe recoil nucleus in an angular DE-E stripped silicon telescope, and theidentification of the fragments is made possible by the VAMOS spectrometer.

Abstract: In this work we perform an analysis of the onset of chaos in mean-field dynamics in the presence of volume instabilities. As a main finding, we show that the mean-field evolution presents two different regimes: a first one dominated by the almost decoupled amplification of several collective unstable modes, leading to the early condensation of the system into clusters, which is followed by a second stage dominated by a coalescence mechanism among the large-density domains. Finally we show that, even at the latest stage considered, chaos does not appear as fully developed since a hierarchy of the different unstable modes, inherited from the initial regular amplification of instabilities, remains. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report on the observation of a new isomeric state in $^{68}$Ni. We suggest that the newly observed state at 168(1) keV above the first 2$^+$ state is a $\pi(2p-2h)$ 0$^{+}$ state across the major Z=28 shell gap. NFS will be composed of a pulsed neutron beam for in‐flight measurements and irradiation stations for cross‐section measurements and material studies. Continuous and quasi‐monokinetic energy spectra will be available at NFS respectively produced by the interaction of deuteron beam on thick a Be converter and by the 7Li(p,n) reaction on a thin converter. The flux at NFS will be up to 2 orders of magnitude higher than those of other existing time‐of‐flight facilities in the 1 MeV to 40 MeV range. NFS will be a very powerful tool for physics and fundamental research as well as applications like the transmutation of nuclear waste, design of future fission and fusion reactors, nuclear medicine or test and development of new detectors.

Abstract: A new gas-filled operation mode of the large-acceptance spectrometer VAMOS at GANIL is reported. A beam rejection factor greater than 10(10) is obtained for the Ca-40+Sm-150 system at 196 MeV. The unprecedented transmission efficiency for the evaporation residues produced in this reaction is estimated to be around 80% for alpha x n channels and above 95% for x ny p channels. A detailed study of the performance of the gas-filled VAMOS and future developments are discussed. This new operation mode opens avenues to explore the potential of fusion reactions in various kinematics. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: International audience; In the framework of the production of radioactive ion beams by the isotope separator online method, a new system has been developed at GANIL/SPIRAL I to produce multicharged alkali ions. The principle, referred to as the “direct 1+/N+ method,” consists of a surface ionization source associated with a multicharged electron-cyclotron-resonance ion source without an intermediate mass separator. This new system has been tested online using a 48Ca primary beam at 60.3 A MeV. The experimental evidence of the direct 1+/N+ process has been obtained for a potential difference between the two sources of 11 V and with a 1+/N+ charge breeding efficiency of 0.04% for 47K5+. This value is significantly lower than the value of 6% obtained for stable K ions with the standard 1+/N+ method. A possible explanation is given in the text.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS/EXOGAM; International audience; Experimental access to full isotopic fragment distributions is very important to determine the features of the fission process. However, the isotopic identification of fission fragments has been, in the past, partial and scarce. A solution based on the use of inverse kinematics to study transfer-induced fission of exotic actinides was carried out at GANIL, resulting in the first experiment accessing the full identification of a collection of fissioning systems and their corresponding fission fragment distribution. In these experiments , a 238 U beam at 6.14 AMeV impinged on a carbon target to produce fissioning systems from U to Am by transfer reactions, and Cf by fusion reactions. Isotopic fission yields of 250 Cf, 244 Cm, 240 Pu, 239 Np and 238 U are presented in this work. With this information, the average number of neutrons as a function of the atomic number of the fragments is calculated, which reflects the impact of nuclear structure around Z=50, N=80 on the production of fission fragments. The characteristics of the Super Long, Standard I, Standard II, and Standard III fission channels were extracted from fits of the fragment yields for different ranges of excitation energy. The position and contribution of the fission channels as function of excitation energy are presented.

Abstract: In this article we investigate the influence of the expansion on the properties and the dynamical evolution of a piece of unstable nuclear matter. We discuss how the expansion modifies the spinodal decomposition of the system by deriving analytical results, which are confirmed and illustrated by numerical simulations in two dimensions. Moreover, the expansion is introducing a short freeze-out time which allows to unambiguously define the formed fragments. An important result of this study is that for a wide range of expansion velocities the fragmentation is dominated by the same unstable wave lengths, which happen to be weakly dependent on density and temperature provided that the system is lying well inside the spinodal instability region.
