We investigate the asymptotic properties of the trajectories generated by a second-order dynamical system with Hessian driven damping and a Tikhonov regularization term in connection with the minimization of a smooth convex function in Hilbert spaces. We obtain fast convergence results for the function values along the trajectories. The Tikhonov regularization term enables the derivation of strong convergence results of the trajectory to the minimizer of the objective function of minimum norm.

We propose a complete-search algorithm for solving a class of non-convex, possibly infinite-dimensional, optimization problems to global optimality. We assume that the optimization variables are in a bounded subset of a Hilbert space, and we determine worst-case run-time bounds for the algorithm under certain regularity conditions of the cost functional and the constraint set. Because these run-time bounds are independent of the number of optimization variables and, in particular, are valid for optimization problems with infinitely many optimization variables, we prove that the algorithm converges to an \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\varepsilon $$\end{document}ε-suboptimal global solution within finite run-time for any given termination tolerance \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\varepsilon > 0$$\end{document}ε>0. Finally, we illustrate these results for a problem of calculus of variations.

This paper presents some new formulas and properties of the generalized fractional derivative with non-singular kernel that covers various types of fractional derivatives such as the Caputo–Fabrizio fractional derivative, the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative, and the weighted Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative. These new properties extend many recent results existing in the literature. Furthermore, the paper proposes some interesting inequalities that estimate the generalized fractional derivatives of some specific functions. These inequalities can be used to construct Lyapunov functions with the aim to study the global asymptotic stability of several fractional-order systems arising from diverse fields of science and engineering.

In this paper, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of the solution of the Cauchy problem of a one-dimensional compressible isentropic Euler system for a Chaplygin gas with large initial data in the space L loc 1 . The hypotheses on the initial data may be the least requirement to ensure the existence of a weak solution in the Lebesgue measurable sense. The novelty and also the essence of the difficulty of the problem lie in the fact that we have neither the requirement on the local boundedness of the density nor that which is bounded away from vacuum. We develop the previous results on this degenerate system. The method used is Lagrangian representation, the essence of which is characteristic analysis. The key point is to prove the existence of the Lagrangian representation and the absolute continuity of the potentials constructed with respect to the space and the time variables. We achieve this by finding a property of the fundamental theorem of calculus for Lebesgue integration, which is a sufficient and necessary condition for judging whether a monotone continuous function is absolutely continuous. The assumptions on the initial data in this paper are believed to also be necessary for ruling out the formation of Dirac singularity of density. The ideas and techniques developed here may be useful for other nonlinear problems involving similar difficulties.

The study in this paper is made on the nonlinear fractional differential equation whose nonlinearity involves the explicit fractional order D0+β u(t). The corresponding Green's function is derived first, and then the completely continuous operator is proved. Besides, based on the Schauder's fixed point theorem and the Krasnosel'skii's fixed point theorem, the sufficient conditions for at least one or two existence of positive solutions are established. Furthermore, several other sufficient conditions for at least three, n or 2n-1 positive solutions are also obtained by applying the generalized AveryHenderson fixed point theorem and the Avery-Peterson fixed point theorem. Finally, several simulation examples are provided to illustrate the main results of the paper. In particularly, a novel efficient iterative method is employed for simulating the examples mentioned above, that is, the interesting point of this paper is that the approximation graphics for the solutions are given by using the iterative method.

In order to construct global solutions to two-dimensional (2D for short) Riemann problems for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, it is important to study various types of wave interactions. This paper deals with two types of wave interactions for a 2D nonlinear wave system with a nonconvex equation of state: Rarefaction wave interaction and shock-rarefaction composite wave interaction. In order to construct solutions to these wave interactions, the authors consider two types of Goursat problems, including standard Goursat problem and discontinuous Goursat problem, for a 2D self-similar nonlinear wave system. Global classical solutions to these Goursat problems are obtained by the method of characteristics. The solutions constructed in the paper may be used as building blocks of solutions of 2D Riemann problems.

This paper concerns the existence of transonic shock solutions to the 2-D steady compressible Euler system in an almost flat finite nozzle ( in the sense that it is a generic small perturbation of a flat one ), under physical boundary conditions proposed by Courant-Friedrichs in \cite{CourantFriedrichs1948}, in which the receiver pressure is prescribed at the exit of the nozzle. In the resulting free boundary problem, the location of the shock-front is one of the most desirable information one would like to determine. However, the location of the normal shock-front in a flat nozzle can be anywhere in the nozzle so that it provides little information on the possible location of the shock-front when the nozzle's boundary is perturbed. So one of the key difficulties in looking for transonic shock solutions is to determine the shock-front. To this end, a free boundary problem for the linearized Euler system will be proposed, whose solution will be taken as an initial approximation for the transonic shock solution. In this paper, a sufficient condition in terms of the geometry of the nozzle and the given exit pressure is derived which yields the existence of the solutions to the proposed free boundary problem. Once an initial approximation is obtained, a further nonlinear iteration could be constructed and proved to lead to a transonic shock solution., 53 pages

In this paper, an alternative approach is provided in the well-posedness analysis of elliptic variational–hemivariational inequalities in real Hilbert spaces. This includes the unique solvability and continuous dependence of the solution on the data. In most of the existing literature on elliptic variational–hemivariational inequalities, well-posedness results are obtained by using arguments of surjectivity for pseudomonotone multivalued operators, combined with additional compactness and pseudomonotonicity properties. In contrast, following (Han in Nonlinear Anal B Real World Appl 54:103114, 2020; Han in Numer Funct Anal Optim 42:371–395, 2021), the approach adopted in this paper is based on the fixed point structure of the problems, combined with minimization principles for elliptic variational–hemivariational inequalities. Consequently, only elementary results of functional analysis are needed in the approach, which makes the theory of elliptic variational–hemivariational inequalities more accessible to applied mathematicians and engineers. The theoretical results are illustrated on a representative example from contact mechanics.

We establish a theory of $Q$-valued functions minimizing a suitable generalization of the Dirichlet integral. In a second paper the theory will be used to approximate efficiently area minimizing currents $\mathrm{mod}(p)$ when $p=2Q$, and to establish a first general partial regularity theorem for every $p$ in any dimension and codimension., 37 pages. In this paper, we prove the weak convergence of a modified extragradient algorithm for solving a variational inequality problem involving a pseudomonotone operator in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. Moreover, we establish further the R-linear rate of the convergence of the proposed algorithm with the assumption of error bound. Several numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the convergence behaviour of the new algorithm in comparisons with others. The results obtained in the paper have extended some recent results in the literature.

In this paper, we first use the distribution of the number of records to demonstrate that the right tail probabilities of counts of rare events are generally better approximated by the right tail probabilities of Poisson distribution than {those} of normal distribution. We then show the moderate deviations in Poisson approximation generally require an adjustment and, with suitable adjustment, we establish better error estimates of the moderate deviations in Poisson approximation than those in \cite{CFS}. Our estimates contain no unspecified constants and are easy to apply. We illustrate the use of the theorems in six applications: Poisson-binomial distribution, matching problem, occupancy problem, birthday problem, random graphs and 2-runs. Let H2(ⅅ2) be the Hardy space over the bidisk ⅅ2, and let Mψ,ϕ = [(ψ(z) − ϕ(w))2] be the submodule generated by (ψ(z) − ϕ(w))2, where ψ(z) and ϕ(w) are nonconstant inner functions. The related quotient module is denoted by Nψ,ϕ = H2(ⅅ2) ⊖ Mψ,ϕ. In this paper, we give a complete characterization for the essential normality of Nψ,ϕ. In particular, if ψ(z)= z, we simply write Mψ,ϕ and Nψ,ϕ as Mϕ and Nϕ respectively. This paper also studies compactness of evaluation operators L(0)∣nϕ and R(0)ϕnϕ, essential spectrum of compression operator Sz on Nϕ, essential normality of compression operators Sz and Sw on Nϕ.

It is well known that when the geometry and/or coefficients allow stable trapped rays, the solution operator of the Helmholtz equation (a.k.a. the resolvent of the Laplacian) grows exponentially through a sequence of real frequencies tending to infinity. In this paper we show that, even in the presence of the strongest-possible trapping, if a set of frequencies of arbitrarily small measure is excluded, the Helmholtz solution operator grows at most polynomially as the frequency tends to infinity. One significant application of this result is in the convergence analysis of several numerical methods for solving the Helmholtz equation at high frequency that are based on a polynomial-growth assumption on the solution operator (e.g. $hp$-finite elements, $hp$-boundary elements, certain multiscale methods). The result of this paper shows that this assumption holds, even in the presence of the strongest-possible trapping, for most frequencies.

In a series of papers published since 2017 the author introduced a simple alternative of the $n$-simplex type, to enhance the accuracy of approximations of second-order boundary value problems subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions, posed on smooth curved domains. This technique is based upon trial functions consisting of piecewise polynomials defined on straight-edged triangular or tetrahedral meshes, interpolating the Dirichlet boundary conditions at points of the true boundary. In contrast, the test functions are defined by the standard degrees of freedom associated with the underlying method for polytopic domains. While the mathematical analysis of the method for Lagrange and Hermite methods for two-dimensional second- and fourth-order problems was carried out in earlier paper by the author this paper is devoted to the study of the three-dimensional case. Well-posedness, uniform stability and optimal a priori error estimates in the energy norm are proved for a tetrahedron-based Lagrange family of finite elements. Novel error estimates in the $L^2$-norm, for the class of problems considered in this work, are also proved. A series of numerical examples illustrates the potential of the new technique. In particular, its superior accuracy at equivalent cost, as compared to the isoparametric technique, is highlighted.

An adaptive high-order difference solution about a 2D nonlinear degenerate singular reaction-diffusion equation with a convection term is initially proposed in the paper. After the first and the second central difference operator approximating the first-order and the second-order spatial derivative, respectively, the higher-order spatial derivatives are discretized by applying the Taylor series rule and the temporal derivative is discretized by using the Crank–Nicolson (CN) difference scheme. An alternating direction implicit (ADI) scheme with a nonuniform grid is built in this way. Meanwhile, accuracy analysis declares the second order in time and the fourth order in space under certain conditions. Sequentially, the high-order scheme is performed on an adaptive mesh to demonstrate quenching behaviors of the singular parabolic equation and analyse the influence of combustion chamber size on quenching. The paper displays rationally that the proposed scheme is practicable for solving the 2D quenching-type problem.

In the classical theory of solid mechanics, the behavior of solids is described by partial differential equations (PDE) through Newton’s second law of motion. However, when spontaneous cracks and fractures exist, such PDE models are inadequate to characterize the discontinuities of physical quantities such as the displacement field. Recently, a peridynamic continuum model was proposed which only involves the integration over the differences of the displacement field. A linearized peridynamic model can be described by the integro-differential equation with initial values. In this paper, we study the well-posedness and regularity of a linearized peridynamic model with singular kernel. The novelty of the paper is that the singular kernel is represented as the Laplacian of a regular function. This let to convert the model to an operator valued Volterra integral equation. Then the existence and regularity of the solution of the peridynamics problem are established through the study of the Volterra integral equation.

In this paper we analyze a class of trace finite element methods for the discretization of vector-Laplace equations. A key issue in the finite element discretization of such problems is the treatment of the constraint that the unknown vector field must be tangential to the surface (‘tangent condition’). We study three different natural techniques for treating the tangent condition, namely a consistent penalty method, a simpler inconsistent penalty method and a Lagrange multiplier method. The main goal of the paper is to present an analysis that reveals important properties of these three different techniques for treating the tangent constraint. A detailed error analysis is presented that takes the approximation of both the geometry of the surface and the solution of the partial differential equation into account. Error bounds in the energy norm are derived that show how the discretization error depends on relevant parameters such as the degree of the polynomials used for the approximation of the solution, the degree of the polynomials used for the approximation of the level set function that characterizes the surface, the penalty parameter and the degree of the polynomials used for the approximation of the Lagrange multiplier.

The present paper is a continuation of our research that was devoted to the theory of the boundary behavior of mappings in the Sobolev classes (mappings with generalized derivatives) on Riemann surfaces. Here we develop the theory of the boundary behavior of the mappings in the class of FLD (mappings with finite length distortion) first introduced for the Euclidean spaces in the article of Martio-Ryazanov-Srebro-Yakubov at 2004 and then included in the known book of these authors at 2009 on the modern mapping theory. As was shown in the recent papers of Kovtonyuk-Petkov-Ryazanov at 2017, such mappings, generally speaking, are not mappings in the Sobolev classes, because their first partial derivatives can be not locally integrable. At the same time, this class is a natural generalization of the well-known significant classes of isometries and quasiisometries. We prove here a series of criteria in terms of dilatations for the continuous and homeomorphic extensions to the boundary of the mappings with finite length distortion between domains on Riemann surfaces by Caratheodory prime ends. The criterion for the continuous extension of the inverse mapping to the boundary is turned out to be the very simple condition on the integrability of the dilatations in the first power. The criteria for the continuous extension of the direct mappings to the boundary have a much more refined nature. One of such criteria is the existence of a majorant for the dilatation in the class of functions with finite mean oscillation, i.e., having a finite mean deviation from its mean value over infinitesimal disks centered at boundary points. As consequences, the corresponding criteria for a homeomorphic extension of mappings with finite length distortion to the closures of domains by Caratheodory prime ends are obtained.

This paper considers some multiscale radial basis function collocation methods for solving the two-dimensional Monge–Ampère equation with Dirichlet boundary. We discuss and study the performance of the three kinds of multiscale methods. The first method is the cascadic meshfree method, which was proposed by Liu and He (2013). The second method is the stationary multilevel method, which was proposed by Floater and Iske (1996), and is used to solve the fully nonlinear partial differential equation in the paper for the first time. The third is the hierarchical radial basis function method, which is constructed by employing successive refinement scattered data sets and scaled compactly supported radial basis functions with varying support radii. Compared with the first two methods, the hierarchical radial basis function method can not only solve the present problem on a single level with higher accuracy and lower computational cost but also produce highly sparse nonlinear discrete system. These observations are obtained by taking the direct approach of numerical experimentation.

In this paper, we study questions related to the theory of stochastic processes on Lie nilpotent groups. In particular, we consider the stochastic process on the Heisenberg group H3(ℝ) whose trajectories satisfy the horizontal conditions in the stochastic sense relative to the standard contact structure on H3 (ℝ). It is shown that this process is a homogeneous Markov process relative to the Heisenberg group operation. There was found a representation in the form of a Wiener integral for a one-parameter linear semigroup of operators for which the Heisenberg sublaplacian generated by basis vector fields of the corresponding Lie algebra L(H3) is producing. The main method of solving the problem in this paper is using the path integrals technique, which indicates the common direction of further development of the results.

This paper is concerned with one-dimensional derivative quintic nonlinear Schrodinger equation, $${\rm{i}}u_t-u_{xx}+{\rm{i}}(|u|^4u)_x=0, \;\; x\in\mathbb{T}.$$ The existence of a large amount of quasi-periodic solutions with two frequencies for this equation is established. The proof is based on partial Birkhoff normal form technique and an unbounded KAM theorem. We mention that in the present paper the mean value of u does not need to be zero, but small enough, which is different from the assumption (1.7) in Geng-Wu [J. Math. Phys., 53, 102702 (2012)].

This paper is devoted to the study of dual singular integral equations with convolution kernels in the case of non-normal type. Via using the Fourier transforms, we transform such equations into Riemann boundary value problems. To solve the equation, we establish the regularity theory of solvability. The general solutions and the solvable conditions of the equation are obtained. Especially, we investigate the asymptotic property of solutions at nodes. This paper will have a significant meaning for the study of improving and developing complex analysis, integral equations and Riemann boundary value problems.

In this paper, we have pointed out that the proof of Theorem 11 in the recent paper (Lafhim in Positivity, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11117-019-00685-1 ) is erroneous. Using techniques from variational analysis, we propose other proofs to detect necessary optimality conditions in terms of Karush–Kuhn–Tucker multipliers. Our main results are given in terms of the limiting subdifferentials and the limiting normal cones. Completely detailed first order necessary optimality conditions are then given in the smooth setting while using the generalized differentiation calculus of Mordukhovich.

This paper aims to present a new pathwise approximation method, which gives approximate solutions of order $\begin{array}{} \displaystyle \frac{3}{2} \end{array}$ for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by multidimensional Brownian motions. The new method, which assumes the diffusion matrix non-degeneracy, employs the Runge-Kutta method and uses the Itô-Taylor expansion, but the generating of the approximation of the expansion is carried out as a whole rather than individual terms. The new idea we applied in this paper is to replace the iterated stochastic integrals Iα by random variables, so implementing this scheme does not require the computation of the iterated stochastic integrals Iα. Then, using a coupling which can be found by a technique from optimal transport theory would give a good approximation in a mean square. The results of implementing this new scheme by MATLAB confirms the validity of the method.

The purpose of this paper is to show well-posedness results in L 2 -based Sobolev spaces for transmission, Dirichlet, Neumann, and mixed boundary value problems for the Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients in Lipschitz domains on a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension m ≥ 2 . The Dirichlet, transmission, and mixed problems for the nonlinear Darcy-Forchheimer-Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients are also analyzed. First, we focus on the well-posedness of linear transmission, Dirichlet and mixed boundary value problems for the Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients in Lipschitz domains on compact Riemannian manifolds by using a variational approach that reduces such a boundary value problem to a mixed variational formulation defined in terms of two bilinear continuous forms, one of them satisfying a coercivity condition and another one the inf-sup condition. Further, we show the equivalence between each boundary value problem for the Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients and its mixed variational counterpart, and then the well posedness in L 2 -based Sobolev spaces by using the Necas-Babuska-Brezzi technique. The second goal of this paper is the construction of the Newtonian and layer potential operators for the Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients in Lipschitz domains on compact Riemannian manifolds by using the well-posedness results for the analyzed linear transmission problems. Various mapping properties of these operators are also obtained and used to describe the weak solutions of the Poisson problems with Dirichlet and Neumann conditions for the nonsmooth Brinkman system in terms of such potentials. Finally, we combine the well-posedness results of the Poisson problems of Dirichlet, transmission, and mixed type for the nonsmooth Brinkman system with a fixed point theorem in order to show the existence of a weak solution of the Poisson problem of Dirichlet, transmission, or mixed type for the (nonlinear) Darcy-Forchheimer-Brinkman system with L ∞ coefficients in L 2 -based Sobolev spaces in Lipschitz domains on compact Riemannian manifolds of dimension m ∈ { 2 , 3 } .

It is well known that developing methods for solving Dirichlet problems is important and relevant for various areas of mathematical physics related to the Laplace equation, the Helmholtz equation, the Stokes equation, the Maxwell equation, the Dirac equation, and others. The author in previous papers studied the solvability of Dirichlet boundary value problems of the first and second orders in quaternionic analysis. In the present paper, we study a higher-order Dirichlet boundary value problem associated with the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation with complex potential. The existence and uniqueness of a solution to the Dirichlet boundary value problem in the two-dimensional case is proved and an appropriate representation formula for the solution of this problem is found. Most Dirichlet problems are solved for the case in three variables. Note that the case of two variables is not a simple consequence of the three-dimensional case. To solve the problem, we use the method of orthogonal decomposition of the quaternion-valued Sobolev space. This orthogonal decomposition of the space is also a tool for the study of many elliptic boundary value problems that arise in various areas of mathematics and mathematical physics. An orthogonal decomposition of the quaternion-valued Sobolev space with respect to the high-order Dirac operator is also obtained in this paper.

Though the boundary layer formation in the chemotactic process has been observed in experiment (cf. [63] ), the mathematical study on the boundary layer solutions of chemotaxis models is just in its infant stage. Apart from the sophisticated theoretical tools involved in the analysis, how to impose/derive physical boundary conditions is a state-of-the-art in studying the boundary layer problem of chemotaxis models. This paper will proceed with a previous work [24] in one dimension to establish the convergence of boundary layer solutions of the Keller–Segel model with singular sensitivity in a two-dimensional space (half-plane) with respect to the chemical diffusion rate denoted by e ≥ 0 . Compared to the one-dimensional boundary layer problem, there are many new issues arising from multi-dimensions such as possible Prandtl type degeneracy, curl-free preservation and well-posedness of large-data solutions. In this paper, we shall derive appropriate physical boundary conditions and gradually overcome these barriers and hence establish the convergence of boundary layer solutions of the singular Keller–Segel system in the half-plane as the chemical diffusion rate vanishes. Specially speaking, we justify that the boundary layer converges to the outer layer (solution with e = 0 ) plus the inner layer as e → 0 , where both outer and inner layer profiles are precisely derived and well understood. By doing this, the structure of boundary layer solutions is clearly characterized. We hope that our results and methods can shed lights on the understanding of underlying mechanisms of the boundary layer patterns observed in the experiment for chemotaxis such as the work by Tuval et al. [63] , and open a new window in the future theoretical study of chemotaxis models.

The notion of quantized characters was introduced in our previous paper as a natural quantization of characters in the context of asymptotic representation theory forquantum groups. As in the case of ordinary groups, the representation associated with any extreme quantized character generates a von Neumann factor. From the viewpoint of operator algebras (and measurable dynamical systems), it is natural to ask what is the Murray–von Neumann–Connes type of the resulting factor. In this paper, we give a complete solution to this question when the inductive system is of quantum unitary groups $U_{q}(N)$.

The paper is devoted to one open extremal problem in the geometric function theory of complex variables associated with estimates of a functional defined on the systems of non-overlapping domains. We consider the problem of the maximum of a product of inner radii of n non-overlapping domains containing points of a unit circle and the power γ of the inner radius of a domain containing the origin. The problem was formulated in 1994 in Dubinin’s paper in the journal “Russian Mathematical Surveys” in the list of unsolved problems and then repeated in his monograph in 2014. Currently, it is not solved in general. In this paper, we obtained a solution of the problem for five simply connected domains and power γ ∈ (1; 2:57] and generalized this result to the case of multidimensional complex space.

Diaconis and Griffiths (2014) study the multivariate Krawtchouk polynomials orthogonal on the multinomial distribution. In this paper we derive the reproducing kernel orthogonal polynomials Q n ( x , y ; N , p ) on the multinomial distribution which are sums of products of orthonormal polynomials in x and y of fixed total degree n = 0 , 1 , … , N . The Poisson kernel ∑ n = 0 N ρ n Q n ( x , y ; N , p ) arises naturally from a probabilistic argument. An application to a multinomial goodness of fit test is developed, where the chi-squared test statistic is decomposed into orthogonal components which test the order of fit. A new duplication formula for the reproducing kernel polynomials in terms of the 1-dimensional Krawtchouk polynomials is derived. The duplication formula allows a Lancaster characterization of all reversible Markov chains with a multinomial stationary distribution whose eigenvectors are multivariate Krawtchouk polynomials and where eigenvalues are repeated within the same total degree. The χ 2 cutoff time, and total variation cutoff time is investigated in such chains. Emphasis throughout the paper is on a probabilistic understanding of the polynomials and their applications, particularly to Markov chains.

In this paper, we consider fractional ordinary differential equations and the fractional Euler–Poisson–Darboux equation with fractional derivatives in the form of a power of the Bessel differential operator. Using the technique of the Meijer integral transform and its modification, fundamental solutions to these equations are derived in terms of the Fox–Wright function, the Fox H-function, and their particular cases. We also provide some explicit formulas for the solutions to the corresponding initial-value problems in terms of the generalized convolutions introduced in this paper.

The object of investigation in this paper is a scalar linear fractional differential equation with generalized proportional derivative of Riemann–Liouville type (LFDEGD). The main goal is the obtaining an explicit solution of the initial value problem of the studied equation. Note that the locally solvability, being the same as the existence of solutions to the initial value problem, is connected with the symmetry of a transformation of a system of differential equations. At the same time, several criteria for existence of the initial value problem for nonlinear fractional differential equations with generalized proportional derivative are connected with the linear ones. It leads to the necessity of obtaining an explicit solution of LFDEGD. In this paper two cases are studied: the case of no impulses in the differential equation are presented and the case when instantaneous impulses at initially given points are involved. All obtained formulas are based on the application of Mittag–Leffler function with two parameters. In the case of impulses, initially the appropriate impulsive conditions are set up and later the explicit solutions are obtained.

In this paper, we obtain the existence of positive solution for a system of quasilinear Schrodinger equations with concave nonlinearities which is related to several applications in Hydrodynamics, Heidelberg Ferromagnetism and Magnus Theory, Condensed Matter Theory, Dissipative Quantum Mechanics and nanotubes and fullerene-related structures. The quasilinear Schrodinger problem is studied by considering a suitable change of variables which transforms the original problem in to a semilinear one. By means of the several properties of the change of variables, constructions of suitable sub-supersolutions, monotonic iteration arguments and the Galerkin method, we obtain the existence of solution for the semilinear problem. The paper is divided in two parts. In the first one, we use the method of sub-supersolutions to obtain a solution for the problem. In the second part, we use the Galerkin method and a comparison argument to obtain a solution for the system considered. An important feature is that the sub-supersolution approach is rare in the literature for the type of problem considered here and the Galerkin method was not used to consider quasilinear Schrodinger equations.

In this paper we analyse the structure of the spaces of smooth type functions, generated by elements of arbitrary Hilbert spaces, as a continuation of the research in our previous papers in this series. We prove that these spaces are perfect sequence spaces. As a consequence we describe the tensor structure of sequential mappings on the spaces of smooth type functions and characterise their adjoint mappings. As an application we prove the universality of the spaces of smooth type functions on compact manifolds without boundary., 23 pages

The present paper aims to deal with an iterative algorithm for finding common solution of the combination of the split equilibrium problem and a finite family of non-expansive mappings and the combination of variational inequality problem in the setting of real Hilbert spaces. Further, we prove that the sequences generated by the proposed iterative method converge strongly to a common solution to these problems. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the proposed method and convergence result. The results and method presented in this paper generalize, extend and unify some known results in the literatures.

This paper is concerned with a type of time-symmetric stochastic system, namely the so-called forward&ndash, backward doubly stochastic differential equations (FBDSDEs), in which the forward equations are delayed doubly stochastic differential equations (SDEs) and the backward equations are anticipated backward doubly SDEs. Under some monotonicity assumptions, the existence and uniqueness of measurable solutions to FBDSDEs are obtained. The future development of many processes depends on both their current state and historical state, and these processes can usually be represented by stochastic differential systems with time delay. Therefore, a class of nonzero sum differential game for doubly stochastic systems with time delay is studied in this paper. A necessary condition for the open-loop Nash equilibrium point of the Pontriagin-type maximum principle are established, and a sufficient condition for the Nash equilibrium point is obtained. Furthermore, the above results are applied to the study of nonzero sum differential games for linear quadratic backward doubly stochastic systems with delay. Based on the solution of FBDSDEs, an explicit expression of Nash equilibrium points for such game problems is established.

Aim of this paper is to prove the second order differentiation formula for $H^{2,2}$ functions along geodesics in $RCD^*(K,N)$ spaces with $N < \infty$. This formula is new even in the context of Alexandrov spaces, where second order differentiation is typically related to semiconvexity. We establish this result by showing that $W_2$-geodesics can be approximated up to second order, in a sense which we shall make precise, by entropic interpolation. In turn this is achieved by proving new, even in the smooth setting, estimates concerning entropic interpolations which we believe are interesting on their own. In particular we obtain: - equiboundedness of the densities along the entropic interpolations, - local equi-Lipschitz continuity of the Schr��dinger potentials, - a uniform weighted $L^2$ control of the Hessian of such potentials. Finally, the techniques adopted in this paper can be used to show that in the $RCD$ setting the viscous solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation can be obtained via a vanishing viscosity method, in accordance with the smooth case. The present paper offers a new approach to the construction of the coordinate asymptotics of the kernel of the resolvent of the Schrodinger operator in the scattering problem of three onedimensional quantum particles with short-range pair potentials. Within the framework of this approach, the asymptotics of eigenfunctions of the absolutely continuous spectrum of the Schrodinger operator can be constructed. In the paper, the possibility of a generalization of the suggested approach to the case of the scattering problem of N particles with arbitrary masses is discussed.

This paper mainly focuses on the strong convergence of the Euler-Maruyama method for nonlinear stochastic convolution Ito-Volterra integral equations with constant delay. It is well known that the strong approximation of the Ito integral usually leads to 0.5-order approximation for stochastic problems. However, in this paper, we will show that 1-order strong superconvergence can be obtained for nonlinear stochastic convolution Ito-Volterra integral equations with constant delay under some mild conditions on the kernel of the diffusion term. Finally, some numerical experiments are given to illustrate our theoretical results.

In this paper, we prove a kernel formula of Bessel functions attached to irreducible smooth supercuspidal representations of p-adic $GL(n)$. We also show that the Bessel function defined by Bessel distribution coincides with the Bessel function defined via uniqueness of Whittaker models on the open Bruhat cell. The augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) is fundamental in solving convex programming problems with linear constraints. The proximal version of ALM, which regularizes ALM’s subproblem over the primal variable at each iteration by an additional positive-definite quadratic proximal term, has been well studied in the literature. In this paper we show that it is not necessary to employ a positive-definite quadratic proximal term for the proximal ALM and the convergence can be still ensured if the positive definiteness is relaxed to indefiniteness by reducing the proximal parameter. An indefinite proximal version of the ALM is thus proposed for the generic setting of convex programming problems with linear constraints. We show that our relaxation is optimal in the sense that the proximal parameter cannot be further reduced. The consideration of indefinite proximal regularization is particularly meaningful for generating larger step sizes in solving ALM’s primal subproblems. When the model under discussion is separable in the sense that its objective function consists of finitely many additive function components without coupled variables, it is desired to decompose each ALM’s subproblem over the primal variable in Jacobian manner, replacing the original one by a sequence of easier and smaller decomposed subproblems, so that parallel computation can be applied. This full Jacobian splitting version of the ALM is known to be not necessarily convergent, and it has been studied in the literature that its convergence can be ensured if all the decomposed subproblems are further regularized by sufficiently large proximal terms. But how small the proximal parameter could be is still open. The other purpose of this paper is to show the smallest proximal parameter for the full Jacobian splitting version of ALM for solving multi-block separable convex minimization models.

In this paper, we study a class of singular integral-different equations of convolution type with Cauchy kernel. By means of the classical boundary value theory, of the theory of Fourier analysis, and of the principle of analytic continuation, we transform the equations into the Riemann-Hilbert problems with discontinuous coefficients and obtain the general solutions and conditions of solvability in class {0}. Thus, the result in this paper generalizes the classical theory of integral equations and boundary value problems.

In the paper, we consider a nonlinear integrodifferential equation of the third order with delay. We establish sufficient conditions guaranteeing the global existence and boundedness of the solutions of the analyzed equation. We use the Lyapunov second method to prove the main result. An example is also given to illustrate the applicability of our result. The result of this paper is new and improves previously known results.

From spline theory it is well-known that univariate cubic spline interpolation, if carried out in its natural Hilbert space W 2 2 [ a , b ] and on point sets with fill distance h , converges only like O ( h 2 ) in L 2 [ a , b ] if no additional assumptions are made. But superconvergence up to order h 4 occurs if more smoothness is assumed and if certain additional boundary conditions are satisfied. This phenomenon was generalized in 1999 to multivariate interpolation in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces on domains Ω ⊂ R d for continuous positive definite Fourier-transformable shift-invariant kernels on R d . But the sufficient condition for superconvergence given in 1999 still needs further analysis, because the interplay between smoothness and boundary conditions is not clear at all. Furthermore, if only additional smoothness is assumed, superconvergence is numerically observed in the interior of the domain, but a theoretical foundation still is a challenging open problem. This paper first generalizes the “improved error bounds” of 1999 by an abstract theory that includes the Aubin–Nitsche trick and the known superconvergence results for univariate polynomial splines. Then the paper analyzes what is behind the sufficient conditions for superconvergence. They split into conditions on smoothness and localization, and these are investigated independently. If sufficient smoothness is present, but no additional localization conditions are assumed, it is numerically observed that superconvergence always occurs in the interior of the domain, and some supporting arguments are provided. If smoothness and localization interact in the kernel-based case on R d , weak and strong boundary conditions in terms of pseudodifferential operators occur. A special section on Mercer expansions is added, because Mercer eigenfunctions always satisfy the sufficient conditions for superconvergence. Numerical examples illustrate the theoretical findings.

The variance-gamma (VG) distributions form a four-parameter family that includes as special and limiting cases the normal, gamma and Laplace distributions. Some of the numerous applications include financial modelling and approximation on Wiener space. Recently, Stein’s method has been extended to the VG distribution. However, technical difficulties have meant that bounds for distributional approximations have only been given for smooth test functions (typically requiring at least two derivatives for the test function). In this paper, which deals with symmetric variance-gamma (SVG) distributions, and a companion paper (Gaunt 2018), which deals with the whole family of VG distributions, we address this issue. In this paper, we obtain new bounds for the derivatives of the solution of the SVG Stein equation, which allow for approximations to be made in the Kolmogorov and Wasserstein metrics, and also introduce a distributional transformation that is natural in the context of SVG approximation. We apply this theory to obtain Wasserstein or Kolmogorov error bounds for SVG approximation in four settings: comparison of VG and SVG distributions, SVG approximation of functionals of isonormal Gaussian processes, SVG approximation of a statistic for binary sequence comparison, and Laplace approximation of a random sum of independent mean zero random variables.

In this paper, we present and analyze a prey-predator system, in which prey species can be infected with some disease. The model presented in this paper is motivated from D. Mukherjee’s model in which he has considered an SI model for the prey species. There are substantial evidences that infected individuals have the ability to recover from the disease if vaccinated/ treated properly. In this regard, Mukherjee’s model is modified by considering SIS model for prey species. Theoretical and numerical simulations show that the recovery of infected prey species plays a crucial role in eliminating the limit cycle oscillations and thus making the interior equilibrium point stable. The possibility of Hopf bifurcation around non zero equilibrium point using the recovery rate as a bifurcation parameter, is discussed. Further, the model is extended by incorporating the harvesting of predator population. A monitory agency has been introduced which monitors the exploitation of resources by implementing certain taxes for each unit biomass of the predator population. The main purpose of the present research is to explore the effect of recovery rate of prey on the dynamics of the system and to optimize the total economical net profits from harvesting of predator species, taking taxation as control parameter.

In the paper (Greenblatt in J Funct Anal, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jfa.2018.05.014 , 2018) the author proved $$L^p$$ Sobolev regularity results for averaging operators over hypersurfaces and connected them to associated Newton polyhedra. In this paper, we use rather different resolution of singularities techniques along with oscillatory integral methods applied to surface measure Fourier transforms to prove $$L^p$$ Sobolev regularity results for a class of averaging operators over surfaces which can be of any codimension.

Hilbert famously showed that polynomials in n variables are not too complicated, in various senses. For example, the Hilbert Syzygy Theorem shows that the process of resolving a module by free modules terminates in finitely many (in fact, at most n) steps, while the Hilbert Basis Theorem shows that the process of finding generators for an ideal also terminates in finitely many steps. These results laid the foundations for the modern algebraic study of polynomials. Hilbert's results are not uniform in n: unsurprisingly, polynomials in n variables will exhibit greater complexity as n increases. However, an array of recent work has shown that in a certain regime---namely, that where the number of polynomials and their degrees are fixed---the complexity of polynomials (in various senses) remains bounded even as the number of variables goes to infinity. We refer to this as Stillman uniformity, since Stillman's Conjecture provided the motivating example. The purpose of this paper is to give an exposition of Stillman uniformity, including: the circle of ideas initiated by Ananyan and Hochster in their proof of Stillman's Conjecture, the followup results that clarified and expanded on those ideas, and the implications for understanding polynomials in many variables., This expository paper was written in conjunction with Craig Huneke's talk on Stillman's Conjecture at the 2018 JMM Current Events Bulletin

Sampling in shift-invariant spaces is a realistic model for signals with smooth spectrum. In this paper, we consider phaseless sampling and reconstruction of real-valued signals in a high-dimensional shift-invariant space from their magnitude measurements on the whole Euclidean space and from their phaseless samples taken on a discrete set with finite sampling density. The determination of a signal in a shift-invariant space, up to a sign, by its magnitude measurements on the whole Euclidean space has been shown in the literature to be equivalent to its nonseparability. In this paper, we introduce an undirected graph associated with the signal in a shift-invariant space and use connectivity of the graph to characterize nonseparability of the signal. Under the local complement property assumption on a shift-invariant space, we find a discrete set with finite sampling density such that nonseparable signals in the shift-invariant space can be reconstructed in a stable way from their phaseless samples taken on that set. In this paper, we also propose a reconstruction algorithm which provides an approximation to the original signal when its noisy phaseless samples are available only. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed algorithm to reconstruct box spline signals from their noisy phaseless samples.
