1. Nuclear Reactions with Stable and Radioactive Ion Beams at LAFN-IFUSP

Abstract

We present an outlook of studies performed in collaboration or inspired by Prof. Mahir Hussein. The first part refers to the elastic scattering measurements performed in the 80–90 with α-structured systems with strong oscillations in the angular distributions and a large increase of the cross-sections at backward angles, an effect called Anomalous Large Angle Scattering (ALAS). The second part refers to the installation of the “Radioactive Ion Beams in BraSil” (RIBRAS) facility, which was an idea promoted by Prof. Hussein and became reality due to his strong support. It was installed in 2004 as the first radioactive ion beam facility in the southern hemisphere and it has been operating continuously since then. In this paper, we will describe the facility, and some interesting results obtained with the 2-neutron-halo, exotic 6He beam, provided by RIBRAS.

Abstract

The $^{8}\mathrm{Li}+^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ collision is investigated at 23.9, 26.1, 28.7, and 30 MeV bombarding energies. Quasielastic angular distributions and the singles $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ angular and energy distributions are presented. Coupled-reaction channels (CRC) calculations, which include the coupling of the elastic channel to $^{59}\mathrm{Ni}=^{58}\mathrm{Ni}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}+\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}n$ states above and below the neutron threshold, provide a simultaneous description of the quasielastic and transfer distributions and evidence the strong effect of the one-neutron transfer/breakup channels on the quasielastic scattering. The $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ angular and energy distributions have been also successfully analyzed combining the continuum discretized coupled channels (CDCC) method, for the elastic breakup, and the IAV model of Ichimura, Austern, and Vincent [Phys. Rev. C 32, 431 (1985)], for the nonelastic breakup. These calculations indicate that most of the $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ yields are due to nonelastic breakup contributions (transfer), whereas elastic breakup plays a minor role.

Abstract

Background: Reactions involving exotic and stable weakly bound nuclei have been extensively studied in recent years. Although several models have been successfully used to explain particular reaction outcomes, the answers to many questions remain elusive. In previous works, we presented elastic, inelastic, and transfer angular distributions for the $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ system measured at ${E}_{\mathrm{Lab}}=31.5$, 33.0, 35.0, and 37.5 MeV. The data set was analyzed through coupled reaction channels calculations in the context of the double-folding S\~ao Paulo potential.Purpose: We investigate nuclear reaction mechanisms for systems involving weakly bound projectiles.Method: Angular distributions for several nuclear reaction processes were measured for the $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ system at ${E}_{\mathrm{Lab}}=39.70$ MeV.Results: The new data set involves angular distributions for elastic scattering, projectile and target inelastic excitations, one-neutron pickup transfer, one-proton stripping transfer, deuteron pickup transfer, and $^{3,4}\mathrm{He}$ stripping transfer. We have also observed $^{10}\mathrm{Be}$ nuclei. The effect of the couplings to some nonelastic states on the angular distributions is discussed.Conclusion: The theoretical calculations within the coupled reaction channels formalism provide an overall good agreement with the corresponding inelastic, one-neutron stripping, one-proton pickup, one-deuteron pickup, and $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ stripping transfer data. However, to improve the description of the elastic scattering angular distribution, the inclusion of additional channels in the coupling scheme might be necessary.

Abstract

The ECIS (Equations Couplees Iterations Sequentielles) code of Jacques Raynal continues to have an important role since its first version in the seventies. Its use to describe the elastic and inelastic scattering of light heavy ions at energies close to the Coulomb barrier is the first topic of this paper. Nuclear reactions with weakly bound stable and radioactive projectiles are described in the second topic, where the projectiles breakup is not taken into account in ECIS and a more recent formalism called Continuum Discretized Coupled Channels (CDCC) calculations is applied to them. The second topic also contains some results that were obtained at the Radioactive Ion Beams in Brasil (RIBRAS) facility, with a radioactive 2n-halo $$^6$$ He beam on light, medium mass, and heavy targets.

Abstract

Experiments with secondary radioactive beams $$^6$$ He, $$^7$$ Be, $$^8$$ Li and $$^8$$ B on several targets have been performed in recent years at the Radioactive Ion Beams facility in Brasil (RIBRAS). We present results of elastic scattering and reaction measurements performed with this facility. A preliminary Coulomb excitation experiment using gamma-particle coincidence technique is described.

Abstract

The $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ reaction has been investigated through cross-section measurements for different channels, such as quasielastic and elastic scattering, inelastic excitation of low-lying $^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ states, and one-neutron pickup and one-proton stripping transfer reactions. Experimental angular distributions were obtained for 20 bombardment energies around the Coulomb barrier: $38\ensuremath{\le}{E}_{lab}\ensuremath{\le}61\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{MeV}$. Coupled reaction channels calculations have been performed in the context of the double-folding S\~ao Paulo potential, and details of the data analysis are discussed along the paper. In general, the theoretical calculations provide a satisfactory description of the data.

Abstract

In a previous work, we presented data for the $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ system, corresponding to quasielastic and elastic scattering, $^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ inelastic excitation, and one neutron pickup transfer, measuring the angular distribution of scattered beam-like ejectiles at several energies around the Coulomb barrier. In this paper, we present data for the fusion process of the same system, at several energies around the Coulomb barrier, as well as new data for one neutron pickup and stripping transfer. In this case, we detected offline $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays stemming from the $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed decay chain of fusion-evaporation residues and heavy transfer products. As in our previous work, we analyzed this data set with coupled reaction channels calculations using the S\~ao Paulo potential. We show that the coupling to the one neutron transfer channel is quite important to describe the fusion data at the sub-barrier energy region. We also provide a comparison of the experimental fusion cross sections obtained for $^{10}\mathrm{B}+^{197}\mathrm{Au}$ with data for several other systems involving the same target nucleus.

Abstract

We present new experimental angular distributions for the elastic scattering of $^{6}\mathrm{Li}+^{120}\mathrm{Sn}$ at three bombarding energies. We include these data in a wide systematic involving the elastic scattering of $^{4,6}\mathrm{He},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, $^{9}\mathrm{Be},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{10}\mathrm{B}$, and $^{16,18}\mathrm{O}$ projectiles on the same target at energies around the respective Coulomb barriers. Considering this data set, we report on optical model analyses based on the double-folding S\~ao Paulo potential. Within this approach, we study the sensitivity of the data fit to different models for the nuclear matter densities and to variations in the optical potential strengths.

Abstract

A large yield of $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles produced in the $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}(^{6}\mathrm{He},\ensuremath{\alpha})$ reaction was measured at 20.3-, 22.2-, 22.4-, and 24.5-MeV bombarding energies. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles are distributed over a broad energy range in the vicinity and below the elastic scattering $^{6}\mathrm{He}$ peak. Energy integrated $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle cross sections have been obtained at ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{\text{lab}}={36}^{\ensuremath{\circ}},{40}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$, and ${60}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ energy distributions have been analyzed at a fixed laboratory angle $(\ensuremath{\approx}{60}^{\ensuremath{\circ}})$ in terms of the reaction $Q$ value, considering the $2n$-transfer reaction kinematics $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}(^{6}\mathrm{He},\ensuremath{\alpha})^{122}\mathrm{Sn}$. A kinematical analysis of the $Q$-value distribution shows that the recoil system $^{120}\mathrm{Sn}+2n$ is formed in highly excited states in the continuum, at increasing excitation energies as the bombarding energy increases. It is shown that by using Brink's formula, the excitation energy depends on the transferred angular momentum following a linear relation with the square of the angular momentum, indicating that some kind of dinuclear rotating system is formed after the reaction.

Abstract

The 32S(3He,d)33Cl one-proton transfer reaction is a powerful tool to investigate the spectroscopy of low-lying states in the proton-rich 33Cl nucleus. However, the extraction of firm differential cross-section data at various angles to benchmark and constrain theoretical models is made challenging by the presence of competitive reactions on target contaminants. In this paper we report on a recent measurement using a new generation hodoscope of silicon detectors, capable to detect and identify emitted deuterons down to energies of the order of 2 MeV. The high angular segmentation of our hodoscope combined with a suitable target to control possible contaminants, allowed to unambiguously disentangle the contribution of various states in 33Cl, in particular the 2.352 MeV state lying just few tens of keV above the proton separation energy.

Abstract

We measured the $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,p)^{8}\mathrm{Li}$, $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,d)^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, and $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})^{5}\mathrm{He}$ reactions at low energies using the thick target inverse kinematics method, with a polyethylene ${[{\mathrm{CH}}_{2}]}_{n}$ target and a radioactive $^{8}\mathrm{Li}$ beam available at the Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil facility of S\~ao Paulo. By measuring simultaneously several reaction channels $(p,p)$, $(p,d)$, and $(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})$, the still uncertain high-lying resonances of $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$, close to the proton threshold, can be studied and their parameters, such as energy, width, and spin parity can be more reliably determined. The experimental excitation functions of the reactions $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,p)^{8}\mathrm{Li}$, $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,d)^{7}\mathrm{Li}$, and $^{8}\mathrm{Li}(p,\ensuremath{\alpha})^{5}\mathrm{He}$ were analyzed using the $R$-matrix theory, which allows us to infer the properties of the resonances. Multichannel $R$-matrix analysis provides evidence for a significant clustering in the $(p,d)$ channel. The experimental data and the multichannel $R$-matrix analysis will be presented.

Abstract

We present $^{8}\mathrm{B}+^{27}\mathrm{Al}$ elastic scattering angular distributions for the proton-halo nucleus $^{8}\mathrm{B}$ at two energies above the Coulomb barrier, namely ${E}_{\mathrm{lab}}=15.3$ and 21.7 MeV. The experiments were performed in the Radioactive Ion Beams in Brasil facility (RIBRAS) in S\~ao Paulo, and in the TwinSol facility at the University of Notre Dame, USA. The angular distributions were measured in the angular range of 15--80 degrees. Optical model and continuum discretized coupled channels calculations were performed, and the total reaction cross sections were derived. A comparison of the $^{8}\mathrm{B}+^{27}\mathrm{Al}$ total reaction cross sections with similar systems including exotic, weakly bound, and tightly bound projectiles impinging on the same target is presented.

Abstract

The energy-integrated reaction cross-sections of several neutron-rich nuclei ( 17−22 N, 19−24 O, 21−27 F, 23−30 Ne, 26−33 Na, 28−35 Mg, 31−38 Al, 33−40 Si, 36−42 P, 39−44 S, 42−45 Cl, 45,46 Ar), measured at intermediate energy (30–65 A MeV), via direct method, are presented. Silicon detectors have been used as the active target as well as for particles identification. The reduced strong absorption radii r 0 2 are extracted and compared to the data available from the literature. New measurements for 19 nuclei ( 27 F, 27,30 Ne, 33 Na, 28,34–35 Mg, 36−38 Al, 38−40 Si, 41−42 P, 42−44 S, 45 Cl) are revealed. From the study of the isospin dependence of the reduced strong absorption radius, a new quadratic parameterisation of the nuclear radii in the closed shell regions N = 8 and N = 28 , is proposed. According to this parameterisation, the proton/neutron rich nuclei skin effect is well described and a new anomalous structure: halo-structure or large deformation is suggested for 35 Mg and 44 S nuclei.

Abstract

Transfer reactions are verified to be an important tool for the study of light unbound nuclei. We have studied the proton-rich unbound nuclei 15 F and 11 N, 10 N respectively through the 16 O( 14 N, 15 C) 15 F and 12 C( 14 N, 15 C) 11 N, 10 B( 14 N, 13 B) 11 N, 10 B( 14 N, 14 B) 10 N reactions. Resonance energies and width were obtained.

Abstract

The reaction cross section for the halo nucleus 6 He on hydrogen has been measured at 36 MeV/nucleon using the transmission method and a value of σ R =409±22 mb was obtained. A coherent analysis within a microscopic model of this result in conjunction with (p,p) and (p,n) angular distributions has allowed the interaction potential to be uniquely determined. This analysis also allowed the 6 He density distribution to be explored.

Abstract

The mass-measurement programme at GANIL aims to measure the masses of heavy nuclei close to the N = Z line which is the ideal region to study neutron-proton pairing. An original direct time-of-flight mass-measurement method was developed at GANIL which uses the CSS2 cyclotron as a high-resolution spectrometer. The masses of ions of A = 68, 76, 80 and 100 have been measured with a precision of a few 10-6. Mass measurements will be performed with the new CIME cyclotron of SPIRAL using a similar method based on the measurement of the phase of the accelerated ions for different radio-frequencies. A recently approved experiment will help develop this new technique and aims to measure the mass of 31 Ar radioactive nuclei with a precision of 10-6.

Abstract

The ground state of the proton-rich, unbound nucleus ${}^{11}\mathrm{N}$ was observed, together with six excited states using the multinucleon transfer reaction ${}^{10}\mathrm{B}{(}^{14}\mathrm{N}{,}^{13}\mathrm{B}{)}^{11}\mathrm{N}$ at $30A$ MeV incident energy at Grand Acc\'el\'erateur National d'Ions Lourds. Levels of ${}^{11}\mathrm{N}$ are observed as well defined resonances in the spectrum of the ${}^{13}\mathrm{B}$ ejectiles. They are localized at 1.63(5), 2.16(5), 3.06(8), 3.61(5), 4.33(5), 5.98(10), and 6.54(10) MeV above the ${}^{10}\mathrm{C}+p$ threshold. The ground-state resonance has a mass excess of 24.618(50) MeV; the experimental width is smaller than theoretical predictions.

Abstract

The elastic scattering p( 6 He, 6 He)p and charge exchange reaction p( 6 He, 6 Li)n have been measured in reverse kinematics with a secondary 6 He beam. The angular distributions for these reactions were obtained. In the case of the charge exchange reaction, the ratio of the cross section for the Gamow-Teller transition to the ground state, and for the Fermi transition to the isobaric analog state is a measure of the relative strength of the two components of the exchange interaction, V στ and V τ . This ratio is found to be compatible with existing systematics for stable T = 1 nuclei, and no clear signature of a halo structure was found in the present data.

Abstract

We have carried out a search for double Gamow-Teller excitations, employing the 24 Mg( 18 O, 18 Ne) 24 Ne reaction at 100 and 76 MeV/nucleon at NSCL-MSU and GANIL, respectively. The cross sections for low-lying excitations are typically a few nb/sr, providing evidence for a strong suppression of double Gamow-Teller excitations in heavy-ion double charge exchange, compared to pion-induced reactions. This result does not give good hope that heavy ions at intermediate energies could be used to probe double Gamow-Teller strength.

Abstract

The masses of neutron-deficient nuclides near the $N=Z$ line with $A=64\text{\ensuremath{-}}80$ have been determined using a direct time-of-flight technique which employed a cyclotron as a high-resolution spectrometer. The measured atomic masses for $^{68}\mathrm{Se}$ and $^{80}\mathrm{Y}$ were 67.9421(3) u and 79.9344(2) u, respectively. The new values agree with the 2003 Atomic Mass Evaluation. The result for $^{68}\mathrm{Se}$ confirms that this nucleus is a waiting point of the rp-process, and that for $^{80}\mathrm{Y}$ resolves the conflict between earlier measurements. Using the present results and the 2003 Atomic Mass Evaluation compilation, the empirical interaction between the last proton and the last neutron in $N=Z$ nuclei has been revisited and extended.

Abstract

GANIL E364; Mass measurements of very neutron-rich nuclei near the N=20 and 28 shell closures are presented. Seven masses have been determined for the first time and the precision of 36 masses has been significantly improved. These results are used to investigate the evolution of the odd–even staggering of binding energies with neutron number. Special attention is paid to the evolution of the N=28 shell closure as the neutron dripline is approached. Changes in shell structure are observed around N=28 for the P and S isotopes but not for Si. This may be interpreted as a persistence of the shell closure at N=28 or as the result of a very sudden onset in deformation at $^{42}$Si.

International audience; The masses of ten neutron-deficient nuclides near the N = Z line with A = 64–80 have been measured with the direct time-of-flight technique using the CSS2 cyclotron as a high-resolution spectrometer. All measured masses agree with the 2003 atomic mass evaluation and are compared to the predictions of the finite range droplet model. The atomic mass excesses obtained for $^{68}$Se and $^{80}$Y are -53.958(246) MeV and -60.971(180) MeV, respectively. The new results for $^{68}$Se and $^(80}$Y are compared to other recent experimental values.

Abstract

International audience; Energy integrated reaction cross-section measurements of around sixty neutron-rich nuclei covering the region of closed shells N = 20 and N = 28 were performed at intermediate energy (30-65 A . MeV) using direct method. In this experiment, silicon detectors were used as active targets. The reduced strong absorption radii, r02, for 19 new nuclei ($^{27}$F, $^{27,30}$Ne, $^{33}$Na, $^{28, 34-35}$Mg, $^{36-38}$Al, $^{38-40}$Si, $^{41-42}$P, $^{42-44}$S and $^{45}$Cl) are deduced for the first time. An additional 60 radii, also measured in this experiment, are compared to results from literature. A new quadratic parametrization is proposed for the nuclear radius as a function of the isospin in the region of closed shells N = 8 and N = 28. According to this parametrization, the skin effect is well reproduced and anomalous behaviour on the radii are observed in $^{23}$N, $^{29}$Ne, $^{33}$Na, $^{35}$Mg, $^{44}$S, $^{45}$Cl and $^{45}$Ar nuclei.

Abstract

International audience; A new SPEG mass measurement experiment has been performed to determine masses closer to the neutron drip-line in the mass region A $\sim$ 10-50. The precision of 37 masses has been improved and 8 masses were measured for the first time. The region covered was motivated by the study of shell structure and of shape coexistence in the region of closed shells N = 20 and N = 28. The evolution of the two neutron separation energies and the shell correction energy have been studied as a function of the neutron number. The results thus obtained provide a means of identifying, in exotic nuclei, new nuclear structure effects that are well illustrated by the changes of the conventional magic structure.

PACS NESTER EI; International audience; Proton-rich isotopes of Ga, Ge, As, Se and Br had their total reaction cross-sections (σR) measured. Root-mean-squared matter radii were determined from Glauber model calculations, which reproduced the experimental σR values. For all isotopic series a decrease of the rrms with increasing neutron number and a correlation with deformation was observed.

Abstract

The masses of neutron-deficient nuclei close to the proton-drip line are an important input for the rapid proton capture (rp)-process modeling above 56Ni. The direct measurement of the masses of neutron-deficient nuclei 32 ≤ Z ≤ 35 was undertaken at GANIL using the time-of-flight (TOF) technique. The masses of very exotic nuclides as 66As, 68Se and 71Br are reported for the first time and present final uncertainties of 0.8–1.5 × 10−5. The mass values in most cases agree well with the Audi-Wapstra predictions.

Abstract

For the first time evidence of the ground state of the proton-rich, unbound nucleus ${}^{10}\mathrm{N}$ has been found in the multinucleon transfer reaction ${}^{10}\mathrm{B}{(}^{14}\mathrm{N}{,}^{14}\mathrm{B}{)}^{10}\mathrm{N}.$ The observed resonance of ${}^{10}\mathrm{N}$ has a mass excess of 38.8(4) MeV and a width of $\ensuremath{\Gamma}=2.3(16) \mathrm{MeV},$ close to the Audi-Wapstra estimation of 38.5(4) MeV. ${}^{10}\mathrm{N}$ is the last missing $A=10$ multiplet partner.

Abstract

The masses of the nuclides ${}^{66}\mathrm{As}{,}^{68}\mathrm{Se},$ and ${}^{71}\mathrm{Br}$ are reported for the first time, with mass excesses of $\ensuremath{-}51500(680),$ $\ensuremath{-}53620(1000),$ and $\ensuremath{-}57060(570) \mathrm{keV}$ being found. The masses agree well in most cases with the Audi-Wapstra systematics.

Abstract

The charge and mass transition matrix elements of the neutron-rich isotopes 30,32 Mg have been extracted from inelastic scattering on 208 Pb and 12 C targets at 32 A MeV. The measured inelastic cross sections for the first 2 + states were compared to coupled-channels calculations, which take into account the feeding from higher excited states. The method was tested with 24 Mg inelastic scattering data obtained in the same experiment. In the framework of the rotational model, the charge and mass deformations are identical and large (| β |∼0.5–0.6) for both isotopes.

Abstract

The charge exchange reaction p(He-6, Li-6)n was studied in reverse kinematics with a secondary He-6 beam at 41.6 MeV/nucleon. The transitions connecting the ground states and the one leading from the ground state of 6He to its isobaric analogue state in 6Li have been measured and analysed. Their ratio is a measure of the relative strength of the two components of the exchange interaction, V-tau and V-sigma tau. No clear signature of a halo structure is found from this ratio, since it is found to be compatible with existing systematics for stable T = 1 nuclei. The sensitivity of the (p,n) charge exchange angular distributions to the nuclear interaction potential and to the rms radii of the density distribution of He-6 is studied. Abstract

Angular distributions of a Pb-208 beam on Pb-208 thin targets at very small angles were measured. The shape of the experimental distribution is not Gaussian, indicating a plural scattering regime rather than multiple scattering. The distribution was well reproduced by a Monte Carlo simulation of the straggling process. For the first time we observed and quantified the influence of the production of electrons during the scattering. This effect was observed in the angular correlation of the scattered Pb-208 nuclei detected in kinematic coincidence and also in the limiting angle of the Pb-208 scattered in a Ag-107,Ag-109 target. This effect introduces a spread in the scattered angle which is of the same order of magnitude as the angular straggling.

Abstract

A new method for measuring the absolute efficiency of Isotope Separation On-Line (ISOL) systems is described. The overall efficiency is deduced from the ratio between the rate of the radioactive beam detected after analysis and the rate of incident radioactive beam in the target. It is shown that the unfolding of the different efficiencies, i.e., diffusion, effusion, ionisation and transport allows us to deduce the diffusion constants when the absolute efficiency data is obtained as a function of the target temperature. Using this technique we extracted the fundamental Arrhenius constants for diffusion of Ar and Ne in Carbon targets used in the SIRa experiments at GANIL.

Abstract

After an outline of the physics motivations, that illustrate why we think it is important to measure masses in the region N≈Z, we report on on experiments performed at Ganil. An experiment aimed at measuring the masses of proton-rich nuclei in the mass region A ≈ 60–80 has been performed, using a direct time-of-flight technique in conjunction with SISSI and the SPEG spectrometer at GANIL. The nuclei were produced via the fragmentation of a 78 Kr beam (73 meV/nucleon). A novel technique for the purification of the secondary beams, based on the stripping of the ions and using the α and the SPEG spectrometers, was succesfully checked. It allows for good selectivity without altering the beam quality. Secondary ions of 100 Ag, 100 Cd, 100 In and 100 Sn were produced via the fusion-evaporation reaction 50 Cr + 58 Ni at an energy of 5.1 MeV/nucleon, and were accelerated simultaneously in the second cyclotron of GANIL (CSS2). About 10 counts were observed from the production and acceleration of 100 Sn 22+ . The masses of 100 Cd, 100 In and 100 Sn were measured with respect to 100 Ag using the CSS2 cyclotron, with precisions of 2 × 10 −6 , 3 × 10 −6 and 10 −5 respectively.

Abstract

The elastic scattering of 6 He, 10,11 Be secondary beams on a (CH 2 ) 3 target and the charge exchange reaction p( 6 He, 6 Li)n have been measured. A microscopic optical potential was used to reproduce the proton-nucleus elastic scattering data. No clear signature of a halo structure was found in the present data for the elastic scattering and charge exchange reaction, due to the lack of large angle measurement.

Abstract

Secondary ions of ${}^{100}$Ag, ${}^{100}$Cd, ${}^{100}$In, and ${}^{100}$Sn were produced via the fusion-evaporation reaction ${}^{50}\mathrm{Cr}{+}^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ at an energy of 51 MeV/nucleon, and were accelerated simultaneously in the second cyclotron of GANIL. About 10 counts were observed from the production and acceleration of ${}^{100}\mathrm{Sn}{}^{22+}$. The masses of ${}^{100}$Cd, ${}^{100}$In, and ${}^{100}$Sn were measured with respect to ${}^{100}$Ag using the GANIL cyclotron, with precisions of $2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$, $3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$, and ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, respectively.

Abstract

We have measured the elastic scattering of a 6 He secondary beam on a 12 C target at 41.6 MeV/u. The secondary beam was produced by fragmentation with SISSI, and transported to SPEG. The combined use of SISSI and SPEG allows very good quality data to be obtained in terms of energy and angular resolution. The cross section is analysed within a 4-body (α+n+n+ 12 C) eikonal scattering model which is completely parameter-free. Very good agreement with the data is found.

Abstract

Proton-nucleus elastic scattering angular distributions have been measured for 6 He, 7 Li, 10 Be, 11 Be secondary beams. These data, together with other elastic scattering data for proton on unstable nuclei, have been analyzed using phenomenological and microscopic optical model approaches. To reproduce the experimental angular distributions for unstable nuclei, it was necessary to renormalize either the real or imaginary part of the optical potential. The influence of the break-up channels on the results is discussed.
