1998年から数回にわたり東京薬科大学による航空機を用いた成層圏、対流圏での大気中粉塵のサンプリングが行われ微生物の採取が行われた。その結果、大気圏上空では地上で採取した菌よりもより強い紫外線耐性の菌が多く存在していることが明らかとなった。しかし、航空機を用いた実験では飛行高度の限界が12kmであった。それ以上の上空にはより紫外線に強い菌の存在が予想される。そこで、より高高度での観測と長時問の大気採集が可能にするため大気球を用いた成層圏における微生物採集実験が計画された。宇宙科学研究本部では微生物採集装置の開発、製作を行い気球に搭載して微生物採集実験を行った。本論では新採集装置の開発、製作、本装置を使用した計2回の微生物採集実験の飛翔結果について報告する。, The microorganism sampling experiment of the stratosphere and the troposphere was conducted by using the airplane by Tokyo University of pharmacy and life science. As a result, the bacterium of a strong ultraviolet rays tolerance exists in the stratosphere compared with the bacterium sampled on the ground. However, limit flight altitude of an airplane is about 12 km. Therefore, to sample the atmosphere in a higher stratosphere, the balloon experiment of ISAS and Tokyo University of pharmacy and life science was planned. The device to sample the thin atmosphere was jointly developed. This paper deals with newly developed thin atmospheric sampling device to take microorganism. At first the design concept of this new sampling device is explained in detail. 我々は高エネルギー電子加速源の探索と加速機構の解明を目的として、南極周回気球による長期間観測を2004年1月に実施した。観測は、平均高度35kmにおいて13日間にわたって行われ、10GeVから1,000GeVのエネルギー領域で、これまでの三陸での観測総量を1桁以上超えるデータの取得に成功した。この観測のために開発されたPPB-BETSと呼ばれる装置は、シンチ・ファイバーベルトとプラスチック・シンチレータを吸収層(鉛板)の間に交互に挿入した構造を持つシャワー可視化型カロリメータである。全部で約9輻射長の厚さの鉛と、約10,000本のシンチ・ファイバーを用いて、宇宙線シャワーの3次元的発達を測定することにより、約4,000倍の陽子除去能力を実現している。その観測時の有効面積は約600平方センチメートルsrであり、エネルギー分解能は100GeVで約12％である。これらの装置の基本性能は、CERN-SFSにおける電子、陽子ビームの照射実験で確認するとともに、シミュレーション計算を駆使して観測性能を詳細に調べた。長期間気球実験のために、イリジウム衛星を用いたテレメトリー、太陽電池による発電(充電)システム、CPUを用いたオートレベルコントロールなどの、幾つかの新たな技術が導入された。100GeV以上のエネルギーを持つ約5,700イベントの観測データから約100例の電子候補を選別した。本稿では、観測目的、観測装置、シミュレーション計算、ビームテスト、気球実験、データ解析と、1次電子エネルギー・スペクトルの初期的な結果を報告する。, We have carried out an observation of cosmic-ray electrons from 10 to 1,000 GeV by the Polar Patrol Balloon at the Syowa Station in Antarctica. The balloon was flown for 13 days at a level altitude of 35 km in January 2004 and about 5,700 events were observed over 100 GeV. The detector, PPB-BETS, is an imaging calorimeter composed of a layer of scintillating fiber belts and plastic scintillators inserted alternatively between lead plates. The geometrical factor is about 600 sq cm and the total thickness of lead absorber is 9 radiation lengths. The performance of detector has been confirmed by the CERN-SPS beam test and has also been studied by Monte-Carlo simulations. For the long duration ballooning, we introduced some new technologies as followings; a telemetry system using a commercial satellite of the Iridium, an intelligent power supply by solar batteries, an automatic level control system. 近年の気球実験では、観測器の大型化・大重量化、気球の大型化が進んでいる。気球フィルムに発生する応力が大きくなる場合には、気球皮膜の多層化などの最適化が必要となる。ここでは、気球の設計を行う際に用いる簡便な最大応力評価の手法を検討し、ここ数年における実際の飛翔時のパラメータの評価を行った。さらに、新規に大型気球の設計を行い、実験により新しい設計基準の妥当性を確認した。また、長時間観測のために開発を進めているスーパープレッシャー気球の現状と問題点を検討した。, 資料番号: AA0063353051
