Objective　To study the effect of Huqian pill on the modulation of bone mineral density and the level of BMP-２ in ovariectomized rats．Methods　Forty ６-month-old female SD rats were randomly divided into ４ groups： model group， estrogen group， Huqian pill group， and sham operation group．After the establishment of the model， rats in Huqian pill group received concentrated liquid gavage once a day．Rats in estrogen group received nylestriol suspension once a week．Rats in model group and sham operation group received distilled water once a day．After a 12-week treatment， bone mineral density （BMD） and BMP-２ were determined．Results　BMD in Huqian pill group and estrogen group was improved comparing to that in model group， and the difference was significant （P ＜０．０５）．The level of BMP-２ was also improved in the bone tissue， and the difference was significant （P ＜０．０５）．Conclusion　Huqian pill has an obvious treatment effect on ovariectomized rats．It can improve the level of BMP-２ in tissue， resulting in the inhibition of bone resorption and stimulation of bone formation． [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
