В статье рассматривается специфика травелогов, созданных словенскими писательницами в конце XIX - начале XX вв. The purpose of this paper is to study the specificity of travelogues created by Slovenian female writers in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The present study is devoted to the analysis of the influence of fiction on the formation of the image of a policeman. The urgency of the study consists in the fact that conflictogeneity and aggressiveness of the modern world bring about the growing significance of the law enforcement officers, turn this profession into one of the central occupations in the Russian society, and suggest a wide range of expectations from the representatives of the law enforcement agencies.

В статье рассматривается природа интертекстуальных и интермедиальных взаимодействий между романом Теодора Драйзера "Американская трагедия" и кинотрилогией Вуди Аллена "Матч-пойнт", "Сенсация" и "Мечта Кассандры". The paper is intended to explore the nature of the intertextual and intermedial relations between Dreiser's novel An American Tragedy and Woody Allen's London "exilic trilogy", including Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006), and Cassandra's Dream (2007).

The article considers the translations of W. Thackeray’s parody Yellowplush Papers published in the journal Biblioteka dlya Chtenia (The Reader’s Library) in 1854 and 1860 as an example of intertextual interaction between the original and the translated texts. The parody was written in the genre of silver-fork novel, which was rather popular in the English literature of the 1820s and 1830s.The genre was of interest for both Russian writers and translators at different stages of literary development (secular novellas of the 1820s and 1830s, translations of certain Western fashionable novels of the 1850s and 1860s and the Russian fashionable novel of the 1870–1880s). Thus, the translations of Thackeray’s parody under analysis can be treated as a certain stage of development of the given genre in the Russian culture. The analysis of some fragments has revealed the attempts of the Russian translators, on the one hand, to render the artistic peculiarities of Thackeray’s parody to Russian readers, including its intertextuality, which was achieved in different ways (by using colloquialisms, translating the author’s references to foreign culture realities, rendering the author’s irony, and using techniques similar to the original ones). On the other hand, the translators’ desire to ‘incorporate’ the text into Russian literature is quite obvious for them. They try to make the text understandable for the Russian readers, which is evident due to numerous allusions to the texts of the Russian culture, reduction of specific fragments, inclusion of translator’s remarks, and interpretation of the parody finale. The translators targeted both the existing parody samples of Russian literature and the unique specificity of the original. Evidently, these translation techniques met the readers’ expectations and corresponded to the requirements of the Russian translation culture. Thus, the question asked in the title is impossible to be answered unambiguously. The elements of parody are closely connected with both the cultural traditions of the source language and with the references to fashionable novel which was accepted by the popular literature and was not developed in the Russian culture of the 19th century. So the works of this genre, to say nothing of its parodies, could not be rendered without losses into a target language.

В статье на примере производственного романа В. Пановой "Кружилиха" рассматривается противостояние соцреалистического канона и индивидуальной манеры письма. The creative activity of V. Panova of the first post-war years, which are traditionally considered as the period of late socialist realism, became the material of analysis in this article. Focusing on the novel "Kruzhilikha", thematically corresponding to the most orthodox genre of socialist realism - occupational novel - allows showing how the confrontation between canon and individual writing style unfolds within one text.

В статье рассматриваются версии "механических" людей в творчестве А. Платонова, прослеживается их происхождение и последующий процесс развития. The article examines the versions of "mechanical" people in the works of A. Platonov and traces their origin and subsequent process of development. The methodological basis of the study is made up by the works interpreting Platonov's creative activity from the positions of the following scientific approaches: the contextualapproach (M. M. Bakhtin, V. E. Khalizev), according to which meanings generated by extra-textual reality are important for this research and the motif-centered approach (B. M. Gasparov, M. Ya. Polyakov), based on the principle of leitmotif narrative composition.

Бульвера-Литтона, ставшее объектом творческой рефлексии русского писателя. The article deals with Ivan Turgenev's attitude to English Literature. The focus of the study is on the comic play of Edward Bulwer-Lytton, which became the object of the Russian writer's reflection in 1840s, firstly, as a reader and later as a creator.

The article investigates the nature of the influence of sentimental naturalism, or the "school of theyoung Dostoevsky" on the work of early Turgenev. The object of the study includes two texts - Dostoevsky's novel “Poor Folk”, the central novel in the Russian literature of the 1840s, and Turgenev's comedy “The Bachelor”.

The book under review for the first time presents theimage of Karelia, created by the combined effort of the republic's writers from 1920 to 2020, publishes portraits of its famous writers, and characterizes the main trends in modern literature.

В статье рассматривается специфика реализации категории событийности в художественном тексте с юридически значимой проблематикой на примере романа Ч. Диккенса "Холодный дом". The paper focuses on the interaction between two socially significant discourses - law discourse and literary discourse, forming a unique linguo-sociocultural space - interdiscourse. This interdiscourse, the formation of which is associated with a specific historicallegal communicative situation - to transfer knowledge from a highly specialized, closed legal field to the public in order to solve some urgent social problems - is actualized in the artistic worldview in the novel on various levels of meaning generation.

В статье рассматривается литературный дебют американского сценариста Джона Огаста об Арло Финче. The article analyzes the novels by a famous American screenwriter John August “Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire” (2018), “Arlo Finch in the Lake of the Moon” (2019) and “Arlo Finch in the Kingdom of Shadows” (2020). The trilogy of Arlo Finch is the author's literary debut. It is demonstrated that the author makes extensive use of literary allusions and reminiscences, images and motifs of mythology, and materials of European medieval legends. Written in praise of the scouts, reminding of fortitude, endurance, perseverance and group solidarity,the novel is filled with intense drama, as teenagers during a sports game fall into the world of the Long Woods, the world of death, understood as a transgressive transition to another world.

В статье на примере книги В. М. Дорошевича рассматриваются два разных мира на Сахалине конца XIX века: с одной стороны, мир каторжан и поселенцев, а с другой - мир администрации тюрем. The article presents the results of a study of a doctor's speech portrait in the book "Sakhalin" by V. M. Doroshevich. Penal servitude discourse functions in the book as one of the variants of political discourse, which is usually controlled by the authorities. Doroshevich shows two different worlds on Sakhalin at the end of the 19th century: the world of convicts and settlers on the one hand, and the world of prison administration and the island authorities that opposes them, on the other.

The paper focuses primarily on the image of the main character of B. Akunin'sAkunin's series of detective novels often referred to as Fandorin cycle, portrayed in the last underresearched novels All the World's a Stage, The Black City and Not Saying Goodbye. A review of the studies of literary criticism and academic research on Akunin's work has revealed that the basic principles of his poetics include intertextuality and the use of gamebased strategies.

В статье рассматривается содержание концепта "дружба" как ключевого в сказке братьев Гримм "Бременские музыканты". Также описываются языковые средства репрезентации концепта "дружба" в оригинале и переводе сказки. The article examines the process of interpretation of the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm “Bremen Town Musicians” in the original and in translation in an intercultural aspect. It is noted that the process of text interpretation presupposes the study of the concepts verbalized in the work. The authors suggest linguistic tools for determining the content of the concept of “Friendship” as a key one in the fairy tale “Bremen Town Musicians”, as well as a description of the linguistic means of representation of the concept of “Friendship” in the original German-language text and the text of the fairy tale translation.

The article deals with the story “White Mazurka” by the writer of the Eastern emigration Boris Yulsky. Yulsky’s creative work is usually associated with Chinese traditions, highlighting the oriental line which permeates his prose. However, in the vein of classical Russian literature, Yulsky created two works which refer the reader to the mid 19th century and bring them back to the world of noble manors and Pyatigorsk resorts. These are “Lermontov’s” short story “The Moon over Beshtau” and the story “White Mazurka”. The urgency of the study consists in identifying Bunin’s themes in Yulsky’s prose on the example of his story “White Mazurka” and in discovering the position of the artist who wrote his works in the middle of the 20th century. The research methods rest on the historico-literary, phenomenological, typological and comparative approaches and are based on the works of researchers of the poetics of the Eastern emigration and specialists in Bunin’s creative activity. The purpose of the study is to show that the story “White Mazurka” does not only demonstrate the reception of the noble Russia in the new century and new (eastern) space, but is also a reference to the short story written two years earlier by I. A. Bunin – “Natalie” from the collection “Dark Alleys”. The motives and the elements of the plot of Bunin’s short story and Yulsky’s story have a certain similarity: the arrival of a young relative at a noble manor, the meeting with the main female character, the characters’ ambivalent love – carnal and sublime, the ball scenes which became mainstream in both texts, the separation, and the tragic finale. At the same time, “White Mazurka” also echoes other short stories from “Dark Alleys” (“Tanya”, “Zoyka and Valeria”) and even kind of anticipates the “Clean Monday” of 1944. Conclusions. The “parody” of the 19th century turns into the creation of a new text in Yulsky’s story, which, on the one hand, combines the motives of classical literature, and on the other, shows how Bunin’s background forms the position of the 20th century modernist, who creates a multi-layered narrative space joining the tradition and its transfiguration in new forms.

Достоевского "Братья Карамазовы". The article examines the intertextual constituent of the short story by I. A. Bunin "The Case of the Cornet Elagin". It is shown that Bunin's short story seems to lead a dialogue with the novel by F. M. Dostoevsky "The Karamazov Brothers".

The article addresses one of the most important Goncharov's characters - Mark Volokhov from the novel The Precipice. It is argued that Goncharov deliberately created ambiguous image of the character, ironicallyforcing the negative superficial impression.

This article is aimed at defining the terms "fantasy" and "fantastic elements" from the point of view of fiction and finding its application in relation to N. V. Gogol's works. The main attention is paid to fantastic elements,their classification, as well as the way they are used in the literary text.

The first part of this article argues that Lifshitz's 1930s polemic against pseudo-Marxist "vulgarizers" in Soviet letters, as well as his lifelong championing of ideologically problematic, sometimes explicitlyantiprogressivist authors, whom he called the "great conservatives of humanity,” should be understood as a subjective" intellectual practice of "free spiritual production" through which the philosopher-critic hoped to further the Russian Revolution's emancipatory ideals while working within the strictures of Stalinism.

В статье рассматривается степень влияния романных идей И. А. Гончарова на романное творчество И. С. Тургенева. The article proposes to correct the idea of the "Goncharov school" in Turgenev's practice and determine the boundaries and degree of influence of Goncharov's novel ideas on Turgenev's novels. It is shown that by the time of close ommunicationbetween the two writers in 1855, Turgenev was not disoriented as a novelist.

В статье рассматривается как бытовое время в календарной хронологии романа "Преступление и наказание" претворяется в качественное духовное бытие. Applying the method of Orthodox axeology, the present work tries to answer the following question: how the everyday time (chronos) in the calendar chronology of the novel "Crime and Punishment" is transformed into a qualitative spiritual being (kairos). The possibility of changing the ideological discourse in Dostoevsky's work frompagan to Christian through the influence of the hagiographic corps of Cheti Minei is studied. It is shown how the biographical texts, intended for reading on a specific date, coinciding with the calendar time from the development of the novel plot, influence the change of thoughts and actions of a given character and explain the inner meaning of the event.

The article is devoted to the study of the formation of the idea of the novella by I. Shmelev "The Man from the Restaurant". The material under study includes the surviving draft materials for the novella.

В статье анализируются особенности латышского детективного романа советского периода и рассматривается, как советская идеологическая система определила его развитие. Peculiarities of Soviet ideology mean that literary works should follow a certain canon which reflects a positive image of Soviet society. In search of possibilities to reflect the diversity and contradictions of thissociety, many writers chose to emphasize psychological experiences grounded in the social environment, thus also diversifying the form of literary works. Detective novels became one of the types of Soviet socio-psychological prose. The aim of the research is to analyse the features of the Latvian detective fiction during the Soviet periodand to consider how the Soviet ideological system determined the development of the Latvian detective novel.

Основные темы произведений касались морских сражений, театра войны на Пиренейском полуострове, кампании периода "Ста дней", противостояния России и Франции и сожженной Москвы. В работах британских писателей особое внимание было уделено битве при Ватерлоо, которая стала символом объединения британской нации. Обращение к событиям эпохи Наполеоновских войн внесло значительный вклад в формирование национального самосознания британцев. The era of the Napoleonic Wars was one of the favorite subjects in British literature. The main themes of the works concerned naval battles, the theater of war in the Iberian Peninsula, the campaign of the period of the "Hundred Days", the confrontation between Russia and France and the burned-out Moscow. In the works of British writers, special attention was paid to the Battle of Waterloo, which became a symbol of the unification of the British nation. The events of the era of the Napoleonic Wars made a significant contribution to the formation of the national identity of the British.

В статье рассматривается феномен "советского Драйзера", которого в СССР литературная критика объявила крупнейшим американским писателем ХХ века и лучшим другом Советского Союза. The Soviet literary pantheon of foreign writers widely read and popular in the USSR was made up as a result of conscious focused efforts and purposeful work of Soviet literary institutions. The case study ofTheodore Dreiser (who was criticized as a "petty-bourgeois individualist" in the 1920s but gained a reputation of the greatest twentieth-century American classic and the best friend of the Soviet Union by the early 1930s) allows the researchers to uncover and analyze the mechanism of emergence of such a phenomenon as "a Soviet foreign classic".

Настоящая статья интерпретирует характер и сюжетную функциональность Порфирия Петровича, одного из главных персонажей романа Ф. М. Достоевского "Преступление и наказание, который является идейным двойником Родиона Раскольникова. The article studies the character and the plot function of Porfiry Petrovich, one of the basic characters in F. Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment. The study aims to prove that he can be seen as the protagonist Rodion Raskolnikov's double in worldview only in the context of the Napoleonic idea.
