International audience; The use of metallic walls as plasma facing components in tokamaks puts severe constraints on the control of impurity contamination. Heavy impurities like Tungsten are of particular concern due to the high level of radiative losses they can induce. Moreover, their high sensitivity to neoclassical transport mechanisms exacerbated by toroidal rotation or electrostatic potential asymmetry generally explains experimental cases of strong accumulation in the plasma core. The poloidal distribution of the impurity modulates the amplitude of this neoclassical transport [Angioni14], with an asymmetry that often leads to enhancement, but that can also result in a reduction of the flux

International audience; The dynamics of fast electrons driven inductively or by resonant interactions with radio-frequency waves is known to be highly sensitive to the presence of impurities in hot magnetized hydrogen plasmas. The possibility to use tungsten for the ITER divertor, thanks to its low tritium retention and high melting temperature, has raised the question of the impact of partially ionized high-Z atoms on current drive efficiency by enhancing pitch-angle scattering but also collisional slowing-down and inelastic scattering. Pioneering work on the impact of the screening effect of partially ionized atoms in kinetic calculations was carried out primarily for the problem of runaway electron mitigation in very cold post-disruptive plasmas [1]. In the present paper, this approach is adapted and extended to regular plasma regimes, allowing to take into account any type of high-Z metallic impurity in the plasma core on the fast electron dynamics and the non-thermal bremsstrahlung. This work has been implemented in LUKE Fokker-Planck solver [2] and the quantum relativistic radiation code R5-X2 [3] and the impact of partially ionized high-Z impurities on Lower Hybrid driven current in the WEST tokamak has been investigated.

This work investigates the feasibility of estimating the parameters of an exact transverse isotropy model in cortical bone. The model describes the anisotropy of the velocity of compressional and shear bulk elastic waves. We propose to achieve this with ultrasound imaging relying on the transmission of unfocused beams and with an autofocus method. The latter is based on the principle that the reconstructed ultrasound image shows optimal quality if the velocity model is correct. The autofocus approach is applied to a composite image of the interface between cortical bone and marrow. It is obtained by incoherent summation of four types of images exploiting four different ray paths in the cortical bone layer, three of them involving mode-converted shear waves. If the parameters of the model are correct, spatial co-localization of the interface appears in the four images. As a result, intensity and sharpness in the composite image are maximal. The five parameters of the model of transverse isotropy are successfully estimated in a tube made of a bone-mimicking material. The estimates are in good agreement with resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) measurements. The tube thickness is recovered with an error smaller than 0.3%. In vivo results at the forearm of a volunteer are promising, four parameters could be estimated and are in good agreement with ex vivo RUS measurements. Moreover x-ray peripheral computed tomography corroborates the thickness of the cortical bone layer in the ultrasound image. Weak-anisotropy and exact transverse isotropy models provide very close measurements of the thickness of the tube and the radius bone. Thus, we recommend using the model of weak transverse isotropy for real-time anatomical imaging because more computationally efficient. For material characterization however, the model of exact transverse isotropy is preferred because the elastic anisotropy of cortical bone is moderate, rather than weak.

International audience; This study compares experimental observations on the two challenges of Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH), namely the coupling of waves to the plasma and the enhanced plasma surface interactions in EAST and WEST medium size tokamaks. In WEST, Lower Hybrid (LH) power helps improving ICRH coupling. In both machines experiments reveal that fueling from the midplane not only helps to couple waves from nearby antennas like in other devices, but also has an impact on the scrape-off layer (SOL) density in regions that are not magnetically connected to the valves. Localized midplane nozzle valves allow similar (in WEST) or better (in EAST) coupling compared to poloidally distributed valves. Core density control requirements for long-pulse operation, in particular in L-mode regime, however limit the amount of gas that can be injected. During ICRH impurities can contaminate the plasma to a level detrimental for the operation, e.g. 100% of ICRH power radiated on WEST. In WEST, tungsten (W) production measured by visible spectroscopy increases on all the observed objects during ICRH compared to a reference phase without ICRH. On some components (antenna side limiters, baffle, divertor) the rise is larger than with a similar LH power. The relative contribution of each object and physical process (RF-sheaths, fast ion ripple losses) to core contamination yet remains poorly known. Comparing antenna limiters with W-coating vs low-Z materials would help quantifying the role of these components. In EAST, the core W content, measured by EUV spectroscopy in presence of divertor sources only, is correlated with the total injected power, either from ICRH or LH. Since 2018 the LH guard limiter tiles were W-coated. Their contribution to the core W content appears more important than divertor sources, when the magnetically connected ICRH antenna is powered. Two-strap ICRH antennas magnetically connected to W components at the midplane already compromise high performance operations.

International audience; In this work, we demonstrate that the analysis of spatially resolved nanofluidic-embedded biosensors permits the fast and direct discrimination of single-nucleotide difference (SND) within oligonucleotide sequences in a single step interaction. We design a sensor with a linear dimension much larger than the channel depth in order to ensure that the reaction over the whole sensor is limited by the convection rate. Thus, the targets are fully collected, inducing a nonuniform spatial hybridization profile. We also use the nanoscale height of the channel, which enables us to minimize the amount of labeled molecules flowing over the sensor and hence to reduce the fluorescence background, to carry out real-time hybridization detection by fluorescence microscopy. Taken together, these design rules allow us to show that the spatial hybridization profile depends on the duplex affinity, and we speculate that the on and off-rate constants can be inferred during target injection, which is not possible in local analysis where the dissociation step through rinsing must be conducted. We finally manage to discriminate a GT mismatch on a microRNA sequence by optimizing the interaction temperature and the probe design after a few minutes of interaction in a single step protocol. This work may be applied to any biosensing transduction scheme with spatial resolution, e.g., surface plasmon resonance imaging, integrated into nanofluidic channels for applications where high oligonucleotide sequence selectivity and short analysis times are required.

International audience; Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) measurements on Argon ions performed in the sheath/pres-sheath facing a floating metallic plate and a BNSiO2 ceramic one immersed in a low temperature plasma exhibit unexpected features. It appears that a strong fluorescence signal which could be unduly attributed to ions moving backward in the sheath is detected, even though the floating potential is far below the plasma potential. Moreover, this signal may be stronger than the one corresponding to ions having a forward motion. It is demonstrated that this abnormal measurement is due to the optical pumping saturation of the incident laser beam, while this saturation does no exist for the scattering of the beam at the sample surface. The reflected signal is unambiguously identified using a theoretical beam scattering model. It is also shown that the presence of the sheath/pres-sheath density gradient is able to trigger the LIF saturation effect, complicating ion density measurements.

International audience; The stability of a microtearing mode (MTM) as a function of collisonality is investigated by means of linear reduced model and numerical simulations using the gyrokinetic code GKW. The study is focused on the role of the electric potential and the magnetic drift, which are potential candidates to explain the destabilization of MTM observed at low collisionality in some recent gyrokinetic simulations. In the simulations, the magnetic drift and electric potential are found destabilizing in the presence of a finite collisionality. This destabilizating role is captured in the analytical calculation, which further highlights the requirement for a finite collisionality.

International audience; Laser-induced plasmas can be used to determine the multi-elemental composition of solid, liquid or gaseoussamples. Using a pulsed laser beam focused on the sample, the resulting absorption leads to temperature increaseof several 10,000 K, therefore to a neutral phase to plasma transition. During the relaxation phase over which therecombination takes place, a continuum then lines radiation is emitted. Its analysis based on Optical EmissionSpectroscopy (OES) may lead to the composition of the plasma, therefore to that of the sample if fundamentalassumptions are fulfilled [1]. The most restrictive one is the achievement of the Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium(LTE). Indeed, since only OES is used, the excited states number density is determined. Then, the ground statesnumber density is obtained if LTE is observed and if electron temperature T_e is known, the electron density n_ebeing enough high. The characterization of LTE is therefore one of the key points of this analysis method, alsoknown as Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) [2].In this context, we have focused our attention on Argon-Hydrogen mixtures at atmospheric pressure. Usingnanosecond laser sources (532 nm, 6 ns, 40 mJ), laser-induced plasmas have been produced with variousHydrogen mole fractions. The spectra have been recorded and calibrated according to the gate delay over differentspectral regions. Large spectral windows have been used (around 60 nm) allowing a sufficiently high number ofArgon lines. Using relevant radiation database, the spectra have been calculated assuming LTE by integration ofthe Radiative Transfer Equation and compared to the experimental ones for each spectral window. The temporalevolution of the electron density and temperature are then derived. The comparison of these evolutions from onespectral window to the other allows to estimate the uncertainty of the (n_e, T_e) determination and therefore todiscuss the relevance of the LTE assumption.

Ce contexte accentue doublement la nécessité de développer une attitude critique chez étudiants et enseignants. Mais peut-on raisonnablement envisager un développement sur ce plan sans assurer une base conceptuelle minimale à ceux que l'on forme? Des éléments de réponse à cette question sont fournis par une série d'études qui mettent en jeu des situations physiques relativement simples. Les enquêtes reposent sur des entretiens approfondis-notamment auprès d'enseignants en fin d'études. Une tentative de cartographie des parcours intellectuels observés fait apparaître des développements conceptuels et critiques imbriqués, et des effets de seuil. Sur cette base, les orientations officielles actuelles et la forme que pourraient prendre des interventions de formation seront discutées.

International audience; Trace impurity transport is studied with the flux-driven gyrokinetic GYSELA code [V. Grandgirard et al., $Comp.\ Phys.\ Commun.$\ 207, 35 (2016)]. A reduced and linearized multi-species collision operator has been recently implemented, so that both neoclassical and turbulent transport channels can be treated self-consistently on an equal footing. In the Pfirsch-Schlüter regime likely relevant for tungsten, the standard expression of the neoclassical impurity flux is shown to be recovered from gyrokinetics with the employed collision operator. Purely neoclassical simulations of deuterium plasma with trace impurities of helium, carbon and tungsten lead to impurity diffusion coefficients, inward pinch velocities due to density peaking, and thermo-diffusion terms which quantitatively agree with neoclassical predictions and NEO simulations [E. Belli et al., $Plasma\ Phys.\ Control.\ Fusion$ 54, 015015 (2012)]. The thermal screening factor appears to be less than predicted analytically in the Pfirsch-Schlüter regime, which can be detrimental to fusion performance. Finally, self-consistent nonlinear simulations have revealed that the tungsten impurity flux is not the sum of turbulent and neoclassical fluxes computed separately, as usually assumed. The synergy mostly results from the turbulence-driven in-out poloidal asymmetry of tungsten density. This result puts forward the need for self-consistent simulations of impurity transport, i.e. including both turbulence and neoclassical physics, in view of quantitative predictions for ITER.

A formula is derived for the central nucleon-nucleon potential, based on an analysis of the physical origin of the nucleon-nucleon attraction by pion exchange. The decrease of the dynamical mass of the interaction field, exchanged pion in this case, is the principal mechanism responsible for the nuclear attraction in a similar way the decrease of the kinetic energy of the exchange electron in the diatomic molecule is directly responsible for the covalent molecular attraction. The minimum value of this central nucleon-nucleon potential and the position of the minimum are similar with the values reported in literature for a potential calculated by lattice QCD, which shares the features of the phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potentials. The Schrodinger equation with this potential was solved numerically for different values of the pion mass. It results that the nucleon-nucleon binding energy increases with the decrease of the pion mass. A very small binding energy (0.05 MeV) was obtained for the real pion mass. We discuss on the two pion exchange and hard core repulsion. The minimum value of the potential for two pion exchange is comparable with the minimum value of the CD Bonn potential.

We tried to develop and test several activities using a register based on diagrams for teaching the special theory of relativity to S class of twelfth graders. The graphic approach may result it complications in learning. However, its educational potential can turn out to be more beneficial. An epistemological study on diagrams used in special relativity allowed us to report important links between mathematics and the genesis of the special theory of relativity. This is the case of the Minkowski diagram. We were also interested in two other diagrams, Brehme and Loedel, which were developed much more later for teaching purposes. Following experimental sessions, we developed a new theoretical frame to comprehensively analyse the interactions developed by students to solve a problem using diagrams in special relativity. We modified the mathematical working spaces (MWS) by adding a new frame of rationality to the existing mathematic workspace to physics. The extended frame of the MWS allowed us to plan several versions of sequences proposed to the students and realize a priori analysis of their difficulty level and a posteriori study by analysing pupils' works. We have considered several works of student groups during a sequence using the Minkowski diagram with GeoGebra, a graphic simulation software. It allowed us to estimate the degree of control of the Minkowski diagram for every student, both from the frame of rationality of the mathematics and the physical sciences’ point of view. The results are promising and they tend to show a real appropriation of the concepts of the special theory of relativity with an approach using diagrams., Nous avons développé et mis à l’épreuve des activités utilisant un registre basé sur des diagrammes lors de l’enseignement de la théorie de la relativité restreinte avec des élèves de terminale S. L’approche graphique est source de difficultés didactiques mais les potentialités didactiques peuvent être plus avantageuses. Une étude épistémologique sur les diagrammes utilisables en relativité restreinte permet de voir les liens importants entre les mathématiques et la genèse de la théorie. C’est le cas du diagramme de Minkowski. Nous avons également étudié les diagrammes de Brehme et de Loedel, créés beaucoup plus tard pour des raisons didactiques. Après les séances pilotes, nous avons développé un nouveau cadre théorique, permettant d’analyser plus finement les interactions développées par les élèves résolvant un problème utilisant des diagrammes en relativité restreinte. Nous avons modifié les espaces de travail mathématique (ETM) en rajoutant le cadre de rationalité de la physique à celui des mathématiques. Le cadre des ETM étendu nous a permis de concevoir plusieurs versions de séquences et de réaliser une analyse a priori de leur niveau de difficulté et a posteriori en étudiant des travaux d’élèves. L’analyse du travail de groupes d’élèves a été effectuée lors d’une séquence utilisant le diagramme de Minkowski avec GeoGebra, un logiciel de simulation graphique. Le degré de maitrise du diagramme de Minkowski a été évalué pour chaque élève du point de vue des mathématiques et de la physique. Les résultats sont prometteurs, ils montrent une appropriation réelle des concepts de la théorie de la relativité restreinte via une approche utilisant des diagrammes.

We prepare a degenerate Bose gas in a very anisotropic trap, dynamically adjustable. A controlled deformation of the trapping potential can excite the collective modes of the trapped cloud. First we perform a « principal components analysis » of the gas and we show that the principal components coincide with the Bogoliubov modes. We then restrain our analysis on the scissors mode, which we use to probe superfluidity of the sample, by introducing a new analysis technique, called « local average analysis ». Finally I will report on the realization of a ring trap, obtained by superposing a double sheet light beam to a bubble trap, and describe the different possibilities we planned to set atoms into rotation., Les gaz atomiques dégénérés représentent des systèmes modèles pour étudier la superfluidité. Ils offrent la possibilité d’explorer la physique en dimensions restreintes, profondément différente par rapport au cas tridimensionnel. Nous disposons d’un gaz de Bose bidimensionnel dégénéré confiné dans un potentiel très anisotrope et dont on peut changer la géométrie dynamiquement. Une déformation contrôlée du piège permet d’exciter les modes collectifs du gaz. Nous avons fait d’abord une analyse en composantes principales du gaz, et nous avons montré que ces dernières coı̈ncident avec les modes de Bogoliubov. Nous avons ensuite effectué une étude détaillée du mode ciseaux, dont nous nous servons pour sonder le caractère superfluide du gaz, en développant une nouvelle technique d’analyse, appelée « analyse de la moyenne locale ». Enfin nous avons réalisé un piège en anneau, obtenu à l’intersection d’un piège en forme de bulle et du potentiel optique d’un faisceau qui présente un noeud d’intensité au centre, la « double nappe », et nous proposons différentes protocoles de mise en rotation des atomes dans l’anneau.

International audience; Introduction: The back heat shield of the Exo-mars descent module Schiaparelli, that entered the Mars atmosphere on October 19, 2016, was equipped with three COMARS+ packs located on a radial line. Each COMARS+ pack contains a heat flux sensor, a pressure gauge and two CNES infrared radiometers called ICOTOM. Each ICOTOM radiometer col-lects light from the back entry plasma in a 17.5° half-angle cone. Each pair is composed of a radiometer operating in the range 4.17 – 5 µm (B1) and a radiom-eter operating in the range 2.6 – 3.36 µm (B2). Some of the radiometers designed for the Exomars missions were not used for the mission on board but in laborato-ry wind tunnels in order to help to characterize the emission of CO2 plasmas and to better understand the Schiaparelli measurements during the entry phase.Calibration: Calibration experiments were carried out on non-flying ICOTOM in order to use them in plasma wind tunnels and to study their measuring be-haviour with their own temperature. Those measure-ments were crosschecked with manufacturer's calibra-tion. Manufacturer's data were also post-processed in order to obtain direct flux density information from the ICOTOM electrical signal collected from the ground-based plasmas and to make ready the recep-tion of the in-flight measurements.The experiments carried out with a blackbody-like electrical furnace as infrared source confirmed that the ICOTOM signals decrease with their own temperature and that effect is especially significant for the B1 band. Large differences can then be observed on the output electrical signal depending on the housing tem-perature.Experiments with plasmas: Embedded in a sub-sonic inductively-coupled plasma wind tunnel, the radiometers were exposed to CO2 plasma at various pressures and global specific enthalpies. The experi-ments carried out on the wind tunnel SOUPLIN [3] allowed to expose the ICOTOM to CO2 inductively-coupled plasmas. Pressures were included in the range 1.2-12 kPa whereas global specific enthalpies were included in the range 5.5-13 MJ/kg. The radiometers were placed in a cooled holder, perpendicularly to the plasma jet, on the border of it. The cooling system allowed to controlled the ICOTOM temperatures. In order to analyze, the radiation received by the ICOTOM inside the plasma, complementary meas-urements were carried out in order to characterize the plasma in terms of densities and temperatures.The radiative heat flux received by the ICOTOM radiometers depends mainly on the dissociation rate of CO2. That parameter controls the temperature of the plasma as well as the CO and O densities, and then the radiative transfer from the plasma to the detectors. So, the analysis of the ICOTOM signal includes the re-building of that signal through the measurements of CO and O densities and temperatures. In order to per-form a mapping of the plasma (assumed to be ax-isymmetric), laser measurements (spontaneous Ra-man scattering and two-photon laser-induced spec-troscopy) were conducted within the view cone of the ICOTOM signal.Results: The results obtained show a significant in-crease of the ICOTOM signals with pressure especially in the lower part of the pressure range. The signals also increase with the global specific enthalpy but very slightly, following the opposite effect of a higher tem-perature and a higher CO2 dissociation. The ratio B1/B2 strongly decreases with pressure while it slightly decreases with global specific enthalpy. The signals and the ratio stabilize at higher pressures.Calculations: Some calculations were carried out with CDSD4000 and HITEMP databases at equilibri-um in order to compare the measured ratio with refer-ence conditions and black body rediation. In order to rebuild the ICOTOM signals, measurements were in-cluded in a radiative transfer code. Final comparison between calculations and experiences are on progress.

Macro-autophagy is an intracellular degradation process that involves a double membrane vesicle, the autophagosome, to engulf a cargo. Its formation starts with the nucleation of isolated membrane in the cytosol. Then the membrane grows as a cup-shape around the cargo to finally fuse at its edge and enclose the molecules to be degraded. Thus, the autophagosome morphology evolves during its formation. Studies show that protein machineries support such shape changes. Independently, other researches point membrane physical properties roles during its rearrangement. During my PhD, I investigated the coupling between the activity of one autophagy protein and membranes physical characteristics. This protein, GABARAP, is considered as the autophagosome marker, because, with its homologs, it is the only protein to be specifically anchored to its membrane during all its formation. The reconstitution of GABARAP in micromanipulated giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) allowed me to study the interplay between membrane characteristics and protein behaviours. In a first part, I showed that membrane composition and curvature trigger specific distribution, oligomerization and dynamic of GABARAP. Then I measured a decrease of the membrane bending modulus when the protein was anchored. This last result led me to propose a model that predicts proteins distribution on membranes with two regions of different curvatures. Finally, I determined the nature of GABARAP / GABARAP trans interaction., La macro-autophagie est un processus de dégradation intracellulaire qui implique la formation d’une vésicule à double membranes, l’autophagosome, permettant la séquestration des molécules à dégrader. La formation de l’autophagosome débute par la nucléation de membranes isolées dans le cytosol. Elle se poursuit par une phase de croissance de la membrane en forme de coupe. Dans l’étape finale, l’autophagosome se referme en fusionnant par ses bords pour former la vésicule. La morphologie de l’autophagosome évolue donc durant sa formation. Certaines études montrent que cela est dû à l’implication de machineries protéiques. Indépendamment, d’autres recherches mettent en avant les rôles joués par les propriétés physiques de la membrane. Dans mon travail de thèse, j’ai cherché à montrer un couplage entre l’activité d’une protéine impliquée dans l’autophagie et les caractéristiques physiques de la membrane. Cette protéine, nommée GABARAP, est considérée comme le marqueur de l’autophagosome car elle est la seule protéine, avec ses homologues, à s’ancrer spécifiquement sur sa membrane lors de sa formation. En incorporant GABARAP dans des vésicules géantes unilamellaires micromanipulées, j’ai pu montrer une influence de la composition et de la courbure de la membrane sur la distribution, l’oligomérisation et la dynamique de la protéine. Ensuite, j’ai mesuré une diminution du module de courbure de la membrane lorsque la protéine y était ancrée. Cette dernière étude m’a amenée à développer un modèle permettant de prédire la distribution de la protéine sur une membrane possédant deux régions de courbures différentes. Enfin, j’ai déterminé la nature de l’interaction en trans de GABARAP.

This work developed around three experiments. The first one concerned the measurement of the ratio h/m between Planck's constant and rubidium atomic mass. We have carried out a thorough study of systematic effects, such as the Gouy phase or the quadratic Zeeman effect. The development of a new compact and high-power laser source (12W@780nm) allowed to decrease the effect of Gouy phase by a factor of 4. The second experiment revolved around the realization of a compact and precise gravimeter, using Bloch oscillations to maintain atoms against gravity. This allowed for a measurement of local gravity acceleration with a promising preliminary sensitivity of 4.7E-7 g in 1s. Finally, the third experiment consisted in the realization of the double diffraction technique, with the aim of implementing Bloch-oscillation-based large momentum transfer beamsplitters., Ce travail de thèse se développe autour de trois expériences. La première concerne la mesure du rapport h/m entre la constante de Planck et la masse d'un atome de rubidium. Dans le cadre de l'étude détaillée des effets systématiques, tels que la phase de Gouy ou l'effet Zeeman quadratique, nous avons développé une nouvelle source laser compacte et puissante (12W@780nm) permettant de réduire l'effet de la phase de Gouy d'un facteur 4. La deuxième expérience a porté sur la démonstration d'un nouveau schéma de gravimètre compact, s'appuyant sur les oscillations de Bloch pour faire léviter les atomes. Une mesure de l'accélération locale de la pesanteur a été réalisée avec une sensibilité préliminaire très prometteuse de 4.7E-7 g en 1s. La troisième expérience a permis d'obtenir un interféromètre atomique symétrique grâce à la technique de double diffraction Raman. Nous avons réalisé la chaîne de fréquences et le montage optique pour l'intégration de séparatrices à grand transfert d'impulsion (LMTBS) à base d'oscillations de Bloch.

The dimensionality of a system strongly affects its physical properties; the phase transitions that take place and the type of order that arises depend on the dimension. In low dimensional systems phase coherence proves more difficult to achieve as both thermal and quantum fluctuations play a stronger role. The two-dimensional Bose fluid is of particular interest as even if full order is precluded, a residual "quasi-long" range order arises at low temperatures. Then two ingredients have a significant effect on the state of the system: (i) the finite size of a real system enables one to recover of a macroscopic occupation of a single-particle state; (ii) the interactions between particles lead to the emergence of a non-conventional type of phase transition toward a superfluid state.In this thesis, we present an experimental study of the two-dimensional (2D) Bose gas using two different energy landscapes to trap our atoms. In the first part, we use the spatial dependence of some local properties of an inhomogeneous gas to characterize the state of the equivalent homogeneous system. We extract its equation of state with a high accuracy from the gas density profiles and test its superfluid behavior by measuring the heating induced by a moving local perturbation. In the second part, we observe and characterize the emergence of an extended phase coherence in a 2D homogeneous gas in particular via a 3D-to-2D dimensional crossover. We investigate the dynamical establishment of the coherence via a rapid crossing of the dimensional crossover and observe topological defects in the final superfluid state. We compare our findings with the predictions for the Kibble–Zurek mechanism., La dimensionnalité d’un système affecte fortement ses propriétés physiques ; les transitions de phase qui s’y déroulent ainsi que le type d’ordre qui y apparaît dépendent de la dimension. Dans les systèmes de basse dimension, la cohérence s’avère plus difficile à établir car les fluctuations thermiques et quantiques y jouent un rôle plus important. Le fluide de Bose à deux dimensions est particulièrement intéressant car, même si un ordre total est exclu, un ordre résiduel à « quasi-longue » portée s’établit à basse température. Deux ingrédients ont un effet significatif sur l’état du système : (i) la taille finie d’un système réel permet de retrouver une occupation macroscopique d’un état à une particule ; (ii) les inter- actions entre particules conduisent à l’apparition d’un type non-conventionnel de transition de phase vers un état superfluide.Dans cette thèse, nous présentons une étude expérimentale du gaz de Bose bidimensionnel (2D) utilisant deux types de paysages énergétiques pour piéger nos atomes. Dans la première partie, nous utilisons la dépendance spatiale de certaines propriétés locales d’un gaz inhomogène pour caractériser l’état du système homogène équivalent. Nous extrayons son équation d’état des profils de densité et nous testons son comportement superfluide en mesurant le chauffage induit par le mouvement d’une perturbation locale. Dans la deuxième partie, nous observons et caractérisons l’émergence d’une cohérence de phase étendue dans un gaz 2D homogène, en particulier via le passage de trois dimensions à deux (croisement dimensionnel). Nous étudions l’établissement dynamique de la cohérence par un passage rapide du croisement dimensionnel et nous observons des défauts topologiques dans l’état superfluide final. Nous comparons nos résultats avec les prédictions du mécanisme de Kibble–Zurek.

En augmentant la puissance incidente, la réflectivité du dispositif change. Un seuil de ce comportement est observé pour 8 photons par impulsion, ce qui est un record. Il est possible d'observer des fluctuations de l'énergie d'émission de la boîte quantique en temps réel, à l'échelle de la microseconde.

We have developed a novel model – Vectorial Complex Ray Model (VCRM) – for the scattering of a smooth surface objet of arbitrary shape. In this model, a wave is described by bundles of rays, and a ray is characterized not only by its direction and amplitude but also the curvature and the phase of the wave. These new properties allow to take into account the phase shift due to the focal lines of an arbitrary shaped wave and the amplitude due to the divergence/convergence of the wave. The interferences can therefore be calculated correctly for an arbitrarily shaped particle of smooth surface. In this paper, we present an application of the VCRM in the 2D scattering of a plane wave by a homogeneous ellipsoid at oblique incidence. The transversal divergence effect of the wave will be discussed. The rainbows of ellipsoidal droplet and bubble are investigated.

The aim of this work is to understand the dynamics of ions trapped in an EIBT (Electrostatic Ion Beam Trap), which is a ion trap made of two electrostatic mirrors. We start by presenting a mathematical method, based on conformal mapping, which enables us to find the analytical formula of the potential inside the trap. With this expression, it is possible to write the equation of the movement, demonstrating the kinship of the EIBT with the canonical quadrupole trap (Paul trap). We then study the stability of the trapping using the Floquet theory and present a stability map, equivalent to the Ince-Strutt diagram. These theoretical predictions have been confirmed by experiments made with ions from the SIMPA ECR source. Taking the non-linear terms of the potential into account, we show that a chaotic regime exists. Finally, a simple model of the synchronization phenomena (where ions stay bunched despite of the coulomb repulsion) is proposed and seems in good agreement with experiments. The understanding of the dynamics of ions in the EIBT has a lot of applications in various domains. In atomic physics, this trap can be used to measure metastable state lifetimes. In biology and in medicine, it can be used as mass spectrometer of infinite mass. Finally, for metrology experiments, it seems possible to cool down the radial motion., Cette thèse a pour objectif de comprendre la dynamique des ions piégés dans un EIBT (Electrostatic Ion Beam Trap). J'ai commencé par mettre au point une méthode de calcul basée sur des transformations conformes pour obtenir une formule analytique du potentiel dans ce type de piège. Grâce à cette expression, on peut écrire les équations du mouvement, démontrant la parenté de l'EIBT et du piège de Paul. Ce parallèle permet, en utilisant la théorie de Floquet, de prédire les zones de stabilité du piège et le spectre du mouvement radial. J'ai pu vérifier ces prédictions avec des ions Ne$^{5+}$ produits par la source SIMPA. En prenant en compte les termes non-linéaires du mouvement, j'ai pu démontrer la présence de chaos pour certains paramètres de fonctionnement, ce qui a permis de mieux comprendre les signaux de détection. Finalement, en utilisant le même formalisme, un modèle simple du phénomène de synchronisation des ions dans ce type de piège a pu être proposé et a donné des premières prédictions en accord avec les expériences.\par La compréhension de la dynamique permet de nombreuses applications intéres\-santes dans des domaines variés. En physique atomique, l'EIBT permet de mesurer des durées de vie d'états métastables. En biologie et en médecine, ce piège peut être considéré comme un spectromètre de masse ayant une gamme en masse infinie. Enfin, pour des expériences de métrologie, il semble possible de refroidir le mouvement transverse par refroidissement résistif ou évaporatif.

The Casimir force, named after the Dutch physicist who predicted in 1948 the existence of this attractive force in an ideal conguration of two perfectly conducting and parallel plates, is due to quantum-mechanical effects. It results from electromagnetic fluctuations of vacuum and cannot be neglected anymore in the performance of the nano-mechanical systems (NEMS), which are currently developed and could also revolutionize the microelectronics industry. However, the study of the corrections brought by the surface conductivity or by the dielectric stacks has just started. This thesis work presents the achievement of a new instrument dedicated to the measurement of the Casimir force between two surfaces at the micron scale. We have adapted the technique performed during the G. Jourdan's PhD thesis to a cryogenic environment in order to reach the sensitivity needed to investigate complex surfaces. The viscous damping of the force probe (AFM cantilever) due to the environmental fluid confined between the sphere glued at the tip of the AFM cantilever and a sample has been analysed. Measurements at 4K have revealed an opto-mechanical effect induced by laser noise. Finally, our first tests between two low rough gold surfaces have showed the presence of a parasite force. We have found out the origin of this force and succeeded to remove it. The first measurement of the Casimir force between a gold sphere and a silicon sample has been performed., La force de Casimir, du nom du physicien qui prédit en 1948 l'existence de cette force attractive dans la configuration idéale de deux miroirs parfaits, plans et parallèles, est d'origine purement quantique. Elle résulte de l'existence des fluctuations quantiques de point zéro du champ électromagnétique et joue un rôle prépondérant dans le fonctionnement des nanosystèmes mécaniques en cours de développement et qui pourraient dans les années futures révolutionner l'industrie de la microélectronique. Pourtant, les effets correctifs liés à la conductivité des surfaces ou à l'empilement diélectrique des couches commencent seulement à être étudiés. L'objet du travail expérimental développé durant cette thèse a été la réalisation d'un appareil de mesure de forces faibles entre deux surfaces de tailles micrométriques en vue de l'étude de la force de Casimir. Nous avons adapté la technique mise au point au cours de la thèse de G. Jourdan à un environnement cryogénique afin d'atteindre les sensibilités en force requises pour l'étude de surfaces complexes. Ce manuscrit décrit ce nouvel appareil et ses performances. Nous avons ainsi étudié l'amortissement visqueux de notre sonde de force (un microlevier AFM avec une sphère collée à son extrêmité) engendré par le confinement du fluide environnant. A 4 K, nous avons mis en évidence des effets opto-mécaniques induits par le bruit laser. Enfin, nos premiers tests entre deux surfaces d'or de faible rugosité nous ont amenés à lutter contre une force parasite. Nous avons déterminé l'origine de cette force et réussi à la contrer. La force de Casimir entre une sphère en or et un échantillon de silicium a alors pu être mesurée.

We study the effect of Coulomb interaction on Anderson localisation in the disordered two-dimensional electron gas. Our objective is to determine wether or not there are metals in two dimensions. Without interaction, the scaling theory of localisation predicts that an arbitrarily small disorder is enough to localise the electronic wavefunction and therefore, to drive the two-dimensional system toward an insulating state at zero temperature (Abrahams et al. 1979). In some extreme limits, the interactions can be taken into account and one also finds an insulating state. However, there is no analytical tool to deal with the quantum non-perturbative regime, where both disorder and interactions are intermediate. Experimentally, it can be explored in low density and high mobility two-dimensional samples. Since 1994, unexplained metallic behaviors have been observed in this regime (Kravchenko et al., 1994). We have developed a numerical technique to study the interplay between Anderson localisation and electronic interactions, and in particular, to compute the localization length of the correlated system in the thermodynamic limit. It uses a combination of ground state Quantum Monte Carlo and finite size scaling for the Thouless conductance. We find that the scaling theory of localisation is unaffected by electronic correlations, so that the two-dimensional electron gas stay in an insulating state at zero temperature. However, our results show that correlations delocalise the two-dimensional system and that the delocalisation is much more dramatic in the presence of valley degeneracy. These results suggest a simple mechanism that accounts for the main experimental features of the observed metallic phase., Nous étudions l'effet des interactions coulombiennes sur la localisation d'Anderson dans le gaz bidimensionnel d'électrons désordonné. L'objectif est de statuer sur la question de l'existence de métaux à deux dimensions. En l'absence d'interaction, la théorie d'échelle de la localisation prédit qu'un désordre infinitésimal suffit à localiser la fonction d'onde électronique et donc à rendre le système isolant à température nulle (Abrahams et al. 1979). Dans certaines limites extrêmes, les interactions peuvent être prises en compte et l'on aboutit également à un état isolant. Cependant, aucune théorie analytique ne permet de traiter le régime quantique non-perturbatif où désordre et interaction sont intermédiaires. Expérimentalement, il est possible de l'explorer dans des échantillons de haute mobilité et basse densité. Depuis 1994, des comportements métalliques inexpliqués y ont été observés (Kravchenko et al., 1994). Nous avons mis au point une méthode numérique permettant d'étudier le problème couplé de la localisation d'Anderson en présence d'interaction, et en particulier de calculer la longueur de localisation du système corrélé à la limite thermodynamique. Cette méthode mêle Monte Carlo Quantique à température nulle et théorie d'échelle pour la conductance de Thouless. Nous trouvons que la théorie d'échelle de la localisation est préservée en présence d'interaction et donc que le gaz bidimensionnel, même corrélé, est isolant à température nulle. Nos résultats montrent de plus que les interactions délocalisent le gaz bidimensionnel et que cet effet de délocalisation est accru en présence de dégénérescence de vallées. Ils nous permettent de proposer un mécanisme simple rendant compte des principales caractéristiques des comportements métalliques observés expérimentalement.

The deformation of elastic materials can lead to singularities, which allow to focus energy. In this work, we have been interested in two examples: folds which appear when a rod is confined and cracks in a plate. The first part of this thesis concerns the folding of an elastic rod in a 2D space. The geometry of the resulting configurations is constrained by self-avoidance as well as by the dimensionnality of both structure and container. In a first experiment, we follow the dynamics of the confinement of a ring of swelling gel. We show that the phase space becomes more and more complex when the confinement is increased. In a second experiment, an elastic rod is reversibly folded at the center of a circular Hele-Shaw cell by a centripetal force. The wide diversity of the configurations calls for a statistical approach. We show that folded patterns become ordered when the strength of confinement is increased, because of the stacking of layers of rod. Finally, we introduce the notion of the compressibility of the folded rod as a response to a mechanical perturbation and show that this quantity is a measure of the disorder. In a second part, we study cracks propagation in a thin brittle elastic plate submitted to out-of-plane shear mode. The experimental setup mimics the common way in which one tears a sheet of paper. We find that the geometry of the sheet is determined by the direction of a large scale force, applied to the crack tip. This force is perpendicular to cracked surfaces. While the material is deformed at large scales under mode III loading, the geometry of system in the vicinity of the crack tip adapts so that the material is locally broken under a pure mode I loading. In a second experiment, we consider the interaction of two cracks propagating simultaneously. We observe that the cracks paths merge and produce a strip of well-defined shape, which is driven by the elastic deformations of the plate within the central fold., Les singularités en mécanique correspondent à la focalisation des déformations sur une zone très petite au lieu qu'elles soient réparties de façon homogène dans le matériau. Dans cette thèse, nous nous intéressons à deux d'entre-elles: les plis qui apparaissent lorsque l'on confine des tiges et la fracture dans des plaques. La première partie du mémoire concerne le confinement de tiges dans un espace bidimensionnel. La géométrie de tels systèmes est contrainte par les dimensions du récipient confinant et par l'impossibilité du matériau de s'interpénétrer. Les motifs développés sont complexes et présentent une large gamme d'échelles de longueurs. Dans une première expérience, nous suivons la dynamique de confinement d'un anneau de gel en croissance. Nous montrons que l'espace des phases se complexifie avec une augmentation du confinement. Dans une deuxième expérience, une tige est confinée dans une cellule de Hele-Shaw circulaire au travers d'un potentiel radial, de façon réversible. La grande diversité des géométries explorées nécessite d'en faire une étude statistique. Nous trouvons que les motifs s'ordonnent avec le confinement notamment par un processus de superposition de couches de la tige. Nous définissons la compressibilité de la configuration d'une tige confinée comme étant sa réponse à une perturbation mécanique, et montrons qu'elle permet une mesure du désordre de la géométrie globale. Nous abordons ensuite les problèmes de propagation et d'interaction de fissures dans des plaques minces. Le dispositif expérimental élaboré reproduit le geste que l'on fait lorsque l'on déchire une feuille de papier. Nous montrons que la propagation d'une fissure dans un film mince, soumise à un mode de cisaillement hors du plan à grande échelle (mode III), se produit de telle sorte que la pointe de la fissure est ouverte localement sous l'action d'un mode d'ouverture (mode I). Dans une seconde expérience, deux fissures se propageant simultanément dans le film mince interagissent et leurs trajectoires s'attirent. Nous montrons que l'interaction des deux fissures se fait au travers du pli formé par la languette centrale qui induit des déformations élastiques dans le reste du film.

L'objet de ce mémoire est de rendre compte de travaux portant sur les phases spatialement modulées ou phases lamellaires, leur thermodynamique (diagramme de phases, profil des interfaces) et la dynamique des transitions de phase qui les font apparaître. En particulier, je me suis intéressé aux non-linéarités de cette dynamique de transition de phase particulière en me basant sur les modèles de Swift-Hohenberg, Cahn-Hilliard et Oono, d'après les noms de leurs auteurs.

Following a brief introduction to optical fibers, we combine the effect of modulational instability and Raman self-frequency shift to generate a frequency combs with a spectral width higher than 100 nm and a central frequency shifted towards higher wavelengths. Then, the stimulated Raman effect is used in a ring cavity coupled with nonlinear polarization rotation and polarization filtering. A pulsed regime is obtained at the wavelength of the first Stokes emission and presents a rich zoology of experimental dynamic pulsed regimes. A second main line of this manuscript considers the incoherent regime of supercontinuum generation. We show that under certain conditions, the spectral broadening inherent to supercontinuum generation may be interpreted with the kinetic wave theory as a thermalization process, i.e. resulting of an irreversible natural process of the field to reach an equilibrium state. A cut-back experiment highlights some particular features of the thermalization process during the supercontinuum longitudinal evolution., Après une introduction au domaine des fibres optiques, nous avons mis à profit l'effet d'instabilité modulationnelle couplé à l'effet d'auto-décalage Raman pour créer un peigne de fréquences de largeur supérieure à 100 nm, dont la longueur d'onde centrale est accordable vers les hautes longueurs d'onde. Ensuite, la réalisation d'une cavité laser en anneau, mettant en oeuvre l'effet Raman et la rotation non linéaire de polarisation nous a permis de générer un régime impulsionnel à la longueur d'onde de la première Stokes. Les résultats expérimentaux montrent la richesse des comportements dynamiques non-linéaires qui se rapportent à ce laser. Une seconde partie de ce manuscrit porte sur l'étude de la génération de supercontinuum dans les fibres optiques à cristaux photoniques. Nous avons montré que sous certaines conditions, l'élargissement spectral inhérent à la génération de supercontinuum peut être interprété, grâce à la théorie cinétique de la turbulence faible, comme un processus de thermalisation, i.e. résultant du processus irréversible d'évolution naturelle du champ optique vers son état d'équilibre thermodynamique. Cette interprétation originale du phénomène supercontinuum a été confirmée expérimentalement.

Maxwell equations, which describe the behavior of mesoscopic electromagnetic fields, are not a closed system. We thus have to add constitutive relations that characterize a host medium. We give very general relations, and then simplify them, specifying at each step the physical restrictions that this entails, up to obtain a finite set of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations that we are able to solve numerically. This leads us to study the scattering by an electromagnetic field on a system, that has either the shape of a cylinder or a finite or infinite photonic crystal, and that generates a second and a third harmonic. These different spectral components of the electric field interact with themselves by the optical Kerr-effect and the depletion of the pump wave. We also generalize to the nonlinear regime some of the properties of materials well-known in the linear one, like the anisotropy or the electric energy loss., Les équations de Maxwell, qui gouvernent le comportement des champs électromagnétiques mésoscopiques, ne forment pas un ensemble clos d'équations. Il faut donc les compléter avec des relations constitutives, qui caractérisent un matériau. Nous avons voulu donner des relations fort générales, et les simplifier ensuite, en explicitant toutes les restrictions physiques que cela comportait, jusqu'à obtenir un système fini d'équations aux dérivées partielles non-linéaires couplées résoluble numériquement (méthode des éléments finis). Cela nous a permis d'étudier la diffraction d'un champ électromagnétique par un système, ayant la forme d'un cylindre ou d'un cristal photonique, fini ou infini, générant une deuxième et une troisième harmonique. Ces différentes composantes du champ électrique interagissent entre elles, par l'effet Kerr-optique ou la déplétion de l'onde de pompe. Nous avons aussi généralisé à l'optique non-linéaire quelques propriétés des matériaux bien connues dans le régime linéaire, comme l'anisotropie ou la perte d'énergie électrique.

One promising development of second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy is to use nanolabels that can generate a strong and coherent emission. In this theses, we propose for the first time studies of KTiOPO4 (KTP), a nonlinear material widely used in laser technology, under SHG microscopy at the single nanoparticle level. Such light source can find numerous applications, for instance as an in situ active probe for novel optical near-field microscopy, or marker for biology. Our approach is generic and can be readily applied to other nanocrystal candidates for coherent nonlinear microscopy., L'utilisation des nanolabels avec une émission forte et cohérente constitue un développement prometteur de la microscopie de génération de second harmonique (GSH). Dans ce travail de thèse, nous proposons pour la première fois les études de KTiOPO4 (KTP), un matériau non-linéaire bien connu, sous microscopie de GSH à l'échelle de nanoparticule unique. Ce nanosource de lumière peut trouver de nombreuses applications, par exemple comme sonde active de microscopie en champ proche, ou comme marqueur pour la biologie. Nottre approche est générique et peut être appliquée pour d'autre type de nanocristaux pour la microscopie cohérente.

This dissertation summarizes the last ten years of research at Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée on laser-plasma based electron acceleration. The main result consists of the development and study of a relativistic electron source with unique properties: high energy (100-300 MeV) in short distances (few millimeters), mono-energetic, ultra-short (few fs), stable and tunable. The manuscript describes the steps that led to understanding the physics, and then mastering it in order to produce this new electron source. Non linear propagation of the laser pulse in the plasma is first presented, with phenomena such as non linear wakefield excitation, relativistic and ponderomotive self-focusing in the short pulse regime, self-compression. Acceleration and injection of electrons are then reviewed from a theoretical perspective. Experimental demonstrations of self-injection in the bubble regime and then colliding pulse injection are then presented. These experiments were among the first to produce monoenergetic, high quality, stable and tunable electron beams from a laser-plasma accelerator. The last two chapters are dedicated to the characterization of the electron beam using transition radiation and to its applications to gamma radiography and radiotherapy. Finally, the perspectives of this research are presented in the conclusion. Scaling laws are used to determine the parameters that the electron beams will reach using petawatt laser systems currently under construction., Ce mémoire de HDR résume les dix dernières années de recherche effectuée au Laboratoire d'Optique Appliquée sur l'accélération d'électrons par interaction laser-plasma. Les résultats principaux sont l'obtention d'une source d'électrons relativiste (100-300 MeV), mono-énergétique, ultracourte (quelques fs), compacte (quelques millimètres), stable et réglable. Le manuscrit décrit les étapes qui ont permis d'élucider la physique en jeu puis de la maîtriser, ce qui a finalement abouti à la génération de cette nouvelle source. Les aspects de propagation non linéaire de l'impulsion laser dans un plasma sous-dense sont tout d'abord traités: la création d'onde de sillage linéaire et non linéaire, l'auto-focalisation relativiste et pondéromotrice d'impulsions courtes et intenses, l'auto-compression dans les ondes plasmas. Puis l'accélération et l'injection des électrons dans les ondes de sillage est rappelée d'un point de vue théorique. La démonstration expérimentale de l'injection des électrons dans le régime de la bulle et/ou par collision de deux impulsions laser est ensuite développée. Ces expériences ont été parmi les premières à permettre l'obtention de faisceaux mono-énergétiques de bonne qualité dans un premier temps, et stable et réglable dans un deuxième temps. Les deux derniers chapitres sont consacrés aux diagnostics du faisceau d'électrons par rayonnement de transition puis aux applications en radiographie gamma et radiothérapie. Finalement les perspectives de cette recherche sont présentées en conclusion. En particulier, on s'est intéressé aux paramètres atteignables sur les lasers petawatt en cours de construction.

Internal structures of pressurized water reactors, made of 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steels, undergo a high neutron flux. A degradation of macroscopic properties (hardening, loss of corrosion resistance), caused by this irradiation, involves cracking of bolts of internal structures by irradiation assisted stress corrosion cracking. Modification of macroscopic properties is attributed to an evolution of microstructure under irradiation: formation of point defect clusters (Frank loops, cavities and/or gas bubbles), radiation induced segregation at grain boundaries. However, only few studies concern neutron irradiation effects on solute distribution into grains in these materials. So, the first aim of this work is to observe, at the atomic scale, solute distribution after neutron irradiation by tomographic atom probe. Ni-Si clusters are thus revealed. Then, thanks to model ion irradiations and with the help of transmission electron microscopy and cluster dynamics modelling, some information about mechanism of solute cluster formation has been provided. Heterogeneous radiation-induced precipitation seems to be the more plausible assumption. The second aim is to elaborate an ultrafine grained austenitic steel. The larger the grain boundary surface is, the larger the elimination of point defects, responsible of microstructure evolution under irradiation, is. Microstructure of this material has been characterized after thermal ageing and after irradiation. Results show a limitation of intra-granular damage., Les structures internes des réacteurs à eau pressurisée, en aciers austénitiques inoxydables 304 et 316, sont soumises à un fort flux de neutrons. Cette irradiation engendre une dégradation des propriétés macroscopiques (durcissement, perte de la résistance à la corrosion...) entraînant la fissuration de certaines vis des structures internes par un phénomène complexe de corrosion sous contrainte assistée par l'irradiation. La modification des propriétés macroscopiques est attribuée à un changement de la microstructure sous irradiation : formation d'amas de défauts ponctuels (boucles de Frank, cavités et/ou bulles de gaz), ségrégation induite aux joints de grains. Cependant, peu d'études traitent de l'effet de l'irradiation neutronique sur la répartition des solutés au sein des grains de ces matériaux. Le premier objectif de ces travaux est donc d'observer, à l'échelle atomique, la répartition des solutés après irradiation aux neutrons, par sonde atomique tomographique. La présence d'amas Ni-Si est ainsi mise en évidence. Puis, grâce à des irradiations modèles aux ions et avec l'apport de la microscopie électronique en transmission et d'un modèle de dynamique d'amas, des informations sont apportées concernant le mécanisme de formation des amas de solutés. L'hypothèse de la précipitation hétérogène induite semble la plus plausible. Le second objectif est d'élaborer un acier austénitique à grains ultrafins. L'augmentation de la surface de joints de grains permet alors une plus grande élimination des défauts ponctuels responsables de l'évolution de la microstructure sous irradiation. La microstructure de ce matériau est caractérisée après recuits et irradiation. Les résultats indiquent une limitation du dommage intra-granulaire dans ces matériaux.

This thesis is based on the study of an active mode-locked laser operating at a repetition rate beyond 10 Gb/s. The ring cavity of this laser is made with optical fibre acting as a propagating medium for optical pulses. This laser includes a semiconductor optical amplier (SOA) whose gain is modulated by an external optical signal. The goal of this thesis is to put forward a cheap, simple, and elegant method to generate all-optical "clean" pulses dedicated to optical telecommunication. By "clean" pulses, we mean a pulse which is a mathematical equation which is known to be interesting for fibre propagation, such as the transform limited soliton or gaussian functions. The assumption that a laser with a strong negative dispersion ring cavity, produced by a dispersion compensating fibre, may widely contribute to increasing the laser and pulse properties prompted the elaboration of this project. In this study we offer a theoretical and experimental approach., Cette thèse est basée sur l'étude des propriétés d'un laser fibré à blocage de modes actif opérant à un taux de répétition supérieur à 10 Gb/s. Par laser fibré nous entendons que la fibre optique fait partie intégrante de la cavité optique de notre laser. Elle joue le rôle de milieu de propagation du signal optique reliant chaque composant de la cavité laser. Ce laser comporte aussi un amplificateur optique à semiconducteurs (SOA) comme milieu amplificateur, dont le gain est modulé par un signal optique externe. L'objectif de ces travaux consiste à proposer une méthode élégante, simple et bas coût, de génération tout-optique d'impulsions "propres" dédiées à la télécommunication optique. Par impulsions "propres", nous entendons une impulsion se rapprochant au mieux d'une forme mathématique reconnue intéressante à la propagation dans une fibre comme la fonction soliton ou la gaussienne limitées par la diffraction. L'hypothèse qu'une forte dispersion négative de la cavité laser, produite par l'insertion d'une fibre à dispersion négative, pouvant largement contribuer à améliorer les propriétés de fonctionnement du laser et des impulsions générées, a constitué la motivation majeure à l'élaboration de ce projet de thèse. Cette étude propose une approche à la fois théorique et expérimentale.
