National audience; Selecting for improved feed efficiency might impair the animal’s ability to face stresses. The response to weaning was studied in pigs from two lines divergently selected for residual feed intake (RFI) after weaning. A total of 132 pigs from each line, housed in conventional post-weaning units were fed either a conventional (two diets) or a protective (three diets) feed sequence during the post-weaning period. Body weight and diarrhea were recorded at weaning (D0; 28 days of age), D1, D2, D6, D12, D19, D26 and when exiting the post-weaning unit (D42, 10 weeks of age). Pen feed intake was recorded.
