Any modality of transport can cause air pollution and contributes to climate change. In the recent past, researchers have focused their attention on damage caused by road traffic, but today we know that air and sea traffic is also an important source of pollution. Harbour activity has been demonstrated to be responsible for air and noise pollution. After a brief summary of the actual situation in some Italian and non-Italian cities, this article briefly report some technical choices that can mitigate this form of important damage to the environment and human health. I trasporti contribuiscono in maniera importante al surriscaldamento globale ed all'inquinamento del nostro Pianeta. Se il traffico auto veicolare e quello aereo sono stati ben studiati da questo punto di vista, l'attività portuale è stata sinora scarsamente esplorata. I dati disponibili dimostrano invece come essa sia pesantemente responsabile sia di inquinamento dell'aria sia da rumore. I risultati epidemiologici attualmente disponibili sono rappresentati dagli studi effettuati nelle principali città italiane, estrapolando soltanto quelle portuali. È necessario ed urgente un impegno coordinato delle diverse istituzioni per garantire il diritto alla salute accanto a quelli del lavoro e del turismo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
