This article analyses property relations in post‐socialism through the analytical lens of housing studies and moral economy, specifically in the context of rental and neighbour relations in urban apartment buildings. It draws on 50 in‐depth residential biographies of residents of St. Petersburg, Russia, collected between 2017 and 2021. The interviews represent a diversity of tenures, as well as direct and indirect voices of homeowners and non‐owners. The article begins by introducing the socio‐historical context of the privatisation and commodification of housing in post‐socialist Russia. Then, based on the stories of the origin of property and the intensity of attachment to it, I analyse owners’ homemaking through daily interactions with other owners and non‐owners who act as their tenants and neighbours. Focusing on privatised, mortgaged, and inherited residential property, I identify three trajectories of complex relationships between owners and non‐owners in urban buildings and modes of homemaking, at the intersection of monetary and non‐monetary relations and imaginaries of counterparts. I argue that despite everyday interactions in the housing market and in apartment blocks, both the owners of privatised Soviet property and new owner‐occupiers tend to avoid the total commercialisation of the home and to challenge the dominance of homeownership as the only socially sanctioned tenure.

This study aims to investigate and discuss the factors that influence buyers’ and investors’ decision in buying and investing in property in hill land areas. A sequential mixed methods approach, which involved extensive literature review, questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview was used. Literature review to identify influencing factors was followed by a questionnaire survey. A total of 373 valid questionnaires were analysed. Ten (10) semi-structured interviews were performed thereafter to clarify and validate the survey findings. The study found that only a slight majority were aware of the risk of landslide owing largely to the fact that, not every neighborhood had experienced landslide incidents. Understanding on the relationship between factors that influencing buyers/investors to acquire property in hillside area and provides useful insights that that the combination of influencing factors and a vibrant residential property market relatively outweighs the risks associated with landslide occurrence in the study area.

The provision of affordable housing is a priority in every country in the world, but affordable housing often refers to housing-related policies that differ between governments and each authority and depend on community demographics, affordable housing problems faced by a country and affordability indicators and characteristics determinants used by the country. In recent years the ability to own a home has become a common term used to summarize the problem of housing difficulties in many countries. But the more important question is, do individuals or households who are also end users understand the meaning of affordable housing. This is because affordable housing focuses a lot on the issue of mismatch between the demand and supply of affordable housing. Similarly, the assessment of the level of affordability, but limited to the price-income ratio, while these indicators show a picture of incomplete housing affordability, as it only assesses short-term affordability while ignoring long-term affordability. This study aimed to examine the level of understanding of individuals or households about the meaning of affordable housing and analyze the differences in understanding between those who have not and have owned a home. The level of understanding was assessed based on three dimensions namely economic, ecological and social dimensions. Data collection for this study used a google forms questionnaire, involving a total of 357 civil servants in B40 income group in Putrajaya. The results show that the level of understanding of the respondents for the social dimension is higher than the ecological and economic dimensions. The results of this study allow industry players to identify elements that need to be considered when preparing a comprehensive housing policy or policy in order to meet the needs of individuals, especially for low-income home buyers. This study monetizes spillover effects of soil and groundwater contaminated sites using a quantile hedonic price model for different site types in Taoyuan City in Taiwan, which has 1664 sites, the highest number for any city in Taiwan. The results show that except for those living in the cheapest housing, most residents are willing to pay a higher price to live farther away from contaminated sites. Farmland makes up the largest share of the total contaminated site area and has the highest per square monetary spillover effects in Taoyuan City; remediation of farmland is one of the most urgent missions for the city. Overall, a NIMBY effect is found to exist for soil‐ and groundwater‐contamination in this city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
