Background: Blunt bowel and mesenteric injuries (BBMI) are frequently missed despite the widespread use of computed tomography (CT). Early diagnosis for timely management of surgically significant blunt bowel and mesenteric injuries (sBBMI) can be challenging. Several tools predictive for sBBMI have been proposed such as the "Bowel Injury Prediction Score" (BIPS) that is based on presence of abdominal tenderness, white blood cell count ≥17,000/mm3 and CT grade. The utility of this scoring system for early diagnosis of sBBMI has neither been studied in an Indian population nor prospectively validated. Methods: A single-centre prospective cohort study was conducted at a Trauma Centre in India. After screening of 1793 patients with blunt trauma abdomen who presented between 1st January 2022 and 31st August 2022 and underwent CT scan, eventually, 80 patients of age >18 years, hemodynamically stable and CT finding suspicious of BBMI were included. BIPS score was calculated. Patients were followed to evaluate the outcome. Results: The incidence of sBBMI was 3.06%. Mean age of study patients was 36.2 ± 16.5 years with male predominance (92.5%) and road traffic accidents the commonest mode of injury. Patients with BBMI were more likely to require operative intervention in the presence of abdominal tenderness at presentation (p < 0.01) and CT grade ≥4 (p < 0.01). For patients with WBC counts of ≥17,000/mm3, no statistically significant difference was noted in the need for operative intervention. BIPS ≥2 had 94.5% sensitivity, 72% specificity, 88% PPV, and 86% NPV for identifying patients with sBBMI. Conclusion: Calculation of BIPS at the time of presentation can avoid unnecessary delays in surgical management and thereby reduce overall morbidity and mortality even in an Indian setup. Palaeopathology is the science that seeks to understand the pathological processes in fossils and mummies. Such understanding ranges from identifying diseases and how they work to raising hypotheses on how these illnesses have affected the individual's life and even that of an entire community. In this sense, there has been about Brazilian palaeopathology since 1990; however, only in the last decade has the theme gained prominence and been explored. Thus, this review of palaeopathologies in Brazilian terrestrial vertebrates presents an overview of more than 20 diseases that affected approximately seven groups of those animals, distributed from the Palaeozoic (Eopermian) to the Cenozoic (Quaternary). The development of each disease and the possible impacts caused on the lives of the affected wildlife were analysed for each illness, as well as the techniques used by each researcher and the notes they made. Some of the identified pathologies extend geographically and chronologically several diseases previously restricted to only a few groups of vertebrates and/or regions of the globe. Besides these Palaeopathological studies help in understanding how the pathology altered the biomechanics of a given animal, in establishing ecological relationships, and many other arrangements. Background and Objectives: SARS-CoV-2 is a newly discovered viral infection. It's still unclear how antibodies react in infected individuals, and there is not enough evidence to support the clinical use of antibody examination. This study evaluates the diagnostic value of serologic tests for diagnosing COVID-19. Materials and Methods: 32 patients for whom serologic testing was performed within 7 to 21 days from symptom onset and whether they were diagnosed with COVID-19 by both PCR and lung HRCT as gold standard tests at the same time, were included in the study. Results: Serologic tests (IgM / IgG) compared to PCR and lung HRCT scan to diagnose COVID-19, were 89.3% specific and 59.6% sensitive. Positive predictive value (PPV) was 95% and negative predictive value (NPV) was 37%. The diagnostic accuracy index of the serologic test was 0.745 (CI 0.651-0.838) (p-value <0.001). Conclusion: Serologic testing can be a complementary alternative for SARA-CoV-2 nucleic acid RT-PCR, although it cannot replace it completely. Objectives: It is unclear which selection strategy, plain CT vs. CT perfusion (CTP), is more powerful in predicting outcome after mechanical thrombectomy (MT). We aimed to compare the effect of plain CT and CTP in predicting outcome after MT within 6 h. Methods: We conducted a prospective analysis of a retrospective cohort from our single-center study, which had occlusion of the internal carotid artery and middle cerebral artery up to the proximal M2 segment and received MT within 6 h. According to the Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS), patients were divided into a high-ASPECTS group (≥ 6) and a low ASPECTS group (< 6). Similarly, patients were divided into mismatch and no-mismatch groups according to the DEFUSE3 criteria for CTP. A good outcome was defined as a 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of ≤ 3. Univariate and binary logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the association between different imaging modality and 90-day mRS score, and mortalities, respectively. Results: The high ASPECTS group included 307 patients (89.2%). The mismatch group included 189 (54.9%) patients meeting the DEFUSE3 criterion. Compared to the low ASPECTS group, the high ASPECTS group had a good outcome (odds ratio (OR), 2.285; [95% confidence interval (CI) (1.106, 4.723)], p = 0.026) and lower mortality (OR, 0.350; [95% CI (0.163, 0.752)], p = 0.007). However, there were no significant differences in good outcomes and mortality between the mismatch and no-mismatch groups. Conclusions: Compared with plain CT, CTP does not provide additional benefits in the selection of patients suitable for MT within 6 h. Clinical relevance statement: CT perfusion is not superior to plain CT for the prediction of clinical outcomes when selecting patients for mechanical thrombectomy in the first 6 h. In that clinical setting, plain CT may be safe in the absence of perfusion data. Background and Purpose: Size-specific dose estimates (SSDE) have been introduced into computed tomography (CT) dosimetry to tailor patients’ unique sizes to facilitate accurate CT radiation dose quantification and optimization. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an automated algorithm for the determination of patient size (effective diameter) and SSDE. Materials and Methods: A MATLAB platform was used to develop software of algorithms based on image segmentation techniques to automate the calculation of patient size and SSDE. The algorithm was used to automatically estimate the individual size and SSDE of four CT dose index phantoms and 80 CT images of pediatric patients comprising head, thorax, and abdomen scans. For validation, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) manual methods were used to determine the patient’s size and SSDE for the same subjects. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm in size and SSDE calculation was evaluated for agreement with the AAPM’s estimations (manual) using Bland–Altman’s agreement and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The normalized error, system bias, and limits of agreement (LOA) between methods were derived. Results: The results demonstrated good agreement and accuracy between the automated and AAPM’s patient size estimations with an error rate of 1.9% and 0.27% on the patient and phantoms study, respectively. A 1% percentage difference was found between the automated and manual (AAPM) SSDE estimates. A strong degree of correlation was seen with a narrow LOA between methods for clinical study (r > 0.9771) and phantom study (r > 0.9999). Conclusion: The proposed automated algorithm provides an accurate estimation of patient size and SSDE with negligible error after validation.

Extramedullary Haematopoiesis (EMH) is a compensatory response occurring secondary to inadequate bone marrow function and is observed in many haematological conditions. EMH can occur in many haemoglobinopathies. Extramedullary haemopoiesis favours certain sites such as the liver, the spleen, and the paraspinal regions of the thorax. However, in addition to these common sites of extramedullary haemopoiesis, the process can involve virtually any organ or tissue and can often manifest as a mass mimicking a neoplasm. Although EMH is usually asymptomatic, clinical symptoms can appear due to mass effect. Radiological evaluation can be done using Ultrasonography (USG), Computed Tomography (CT) scan, and T2, T1 weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Both conservative and surgical treatments are practiced depending on the organ involvement. Here, is a rare case of a young female in her mid-20s, who was a known case of beta thalassaemia major. She presented with a mass insidiously growing in left flank region, which on radiological imaging was found to be focal mass in the spleen. The pathological diagnosis after elective splenectomy was EMH of spleen. Due to chronic transfusions in patients of beta thalassaemia major, EMH is rarely seen. In-fact, the incidence of EMH in beta-thalassaemia major is thought to be less than 1%, which makes the present case a rare entity.

Teratomas are the most prevalent type of germ cell tumors and usually display benign characteristics. Mature cystic teratomas consist of a varied mixture of mature tissue types that originate from squamous epithelium and skin adnexal structures. It is most commonly found in female gonads. A mature teratoma located in the abdomen of an adult male patient is exceptionally uncommon. In this case, we report a rare case of intra-abdominal mature cystic teratoma in an adult male.

Intracranial epidermoid cysts are benign, slow-growing congenital tumors of ectodermal origin. They are rare embryonal benign cystic masses with an incidence rate of approximately 0.04%-0.6% of intracranial tumors. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are fundamental diagnostic tools providing valuable information for surgical management. We reported a 59-year-old male patient with right limb weakness twelve hours prior to admission, slurred speech, and paresis of the facial nerve. Based on history taking, physical examination, and radiology examinations, we concluded a diagnosis of non-communicated hydrocephalus due to a right cerebellar intra-axial tumor with a suspicion of low-grade glioma (Pylocitic Astrocytoma). CT and MRI in intracranial epidermoid cysts are fundamental diagnostic tools for diagnosing and obtaining helpful information for surgical planning. Intracranial epidermoid cysts appear as lobulated lesions filling and expanding CSF spaces and exerting a gradual mass effect, insinuating between structures and encasing adjacent nerves and vessels. In this case, we noted a hypodense lesion with irregular calcifications and well-defined on the right cerebellar region measuring 6.15 × 5.47 × 5.7 cm, surrounded by a hypodense image suggesting an intra-axial mass suspected of low-grade glioma with a differential diagnosis of brain abscess. The hypointense lesion on the T1WI sequence found in the MRI examination, with no significant contrast enhancement and restricted diffusion area on DWI, was one of the notable features described in the epidermoid cyst. Intracranial epidermoid cyst rarely occurs in the intracranial, resulting in many symptoms in this case, which should be diagnosed and treated promptly. Imaging aids in proper diagnosis and provides more valuable information for further treatment.

Abstract Objectives Blunt abdominal trauma is a common cause of emergency department admission. Computed tomography (CT) scanning is the gold standard method for identifying intra-abdominal injuries in patients experiencing blunt trauma, especially those with high-energy trauma. Although the diagnostic accuracy of this imaging technique is very high, patient admission and prolonged observation protocols are still common practices worldwide. We aimed to evaluate the incidence of intra-abdominal injury in hemodynamically stable patients with high-energy blunt trauma and a normal abdominal CT scan at a Level-1 Trauma Center in Colombia, South America, to assess the relevance of a prolonged observation period. Methods We performed a retrospective study of patients admitted to the emergency department for blunt trauma between 2021 and 2022. All consecutive patients with high-energy mechanisms of trauma and a normal CT scan at admission were included. Our primary outcomes were the incidence of intra-abdominal injury identified during a 24-hour observation period or hospital stay, ICU admission, and death. Results We included 480 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The median age was 33 (IQR 25.5, 47), and 74.2% were male. The most common mechanisms of injury were motor vehicle accidents (64.2%), falls from height (26%), and falls from bikes (3.1%). A total of 99.2% of patients had a Revised Trauma Score of 8. Only 1 patient (0.2%) (95% CI: 0.01–1.16) presented with an abdominal injury during the observation period. No ICU admissions or deaths were reported. Conclusion The incidence of intra-abdominal injury in patients with hemodynamically stable blunt trauma and a negative abdominal CT scan is extremely low, and prolonged observation may not be justified in these patients.

Introduction Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measured using ultrasonography has been widely used as a surrogate marker of elevated intracranial pressure. However, literature is sparse on the correlation between ONSD and ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt function, especially in adults with hydrocephalus. Our study was designed to assess the correlation between ONSD measured using ultrasonography before and 12 hours after VP shunt placement and the success of VP shunt placement assessed using computed tomography (CT) of the brain. Materials and Methods Fifty-one patients between 16 and 60 years of age, with obstructive hydrocephalus scheduled for VP shunt surgery were included in this prospective, observational study. ONSD measurements were obtained from both eyes prior to induction of anesthesia, immediately after the surgery, and at 6, 12, and 24 hours after the surgery. An average of three readings was obtained from each eye. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) opening pressure was noted after entry into the lateral ventricle. Noncontrast CT (NCCT) brain was obtained 12 hours after the surgery and was interpreted by the same neurosurgeon for signs of successful VP shunt placement. Results There was a significant reduction in ONSD in the postoperative period compared to ONSD measured preoperatively. The average ONSD (mean ± standard deviation) measured prior to induction of anesthesia, immediately after the surgery, and at 6, 12, and 24 hours after the surgery was 5.71 ± 0.95, 5.20 ± 0.84, 5.06 ± 0.79, 4.90 ± 0.79, and 4.76 ± 0.75 mm, respectively. The mean CSF opening pressure was 19.6 ± 6.9 mm Hg. Postoperative NCCT brain revealed misplacement of the shunt tip in only one patient. Conclusion ONSD measured using ultrasonography may be used as a reliable indicator of VP shunt function in adults with obstructive hydrocephalus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Learning models from COVID-19 data are conducive to understand this disease. However, the scarcity of labeled data presents certain challenges. Previous works have exploited existing deep neural network models that are pre-trained on large datasets like the ImageNet dataset. However, the generalization of the pre-trained models remains a challenge. The objective of this study is to develop an accurate and reliable model that improves diagnostic accuracy and reduces the chances of misdiagnosis. This, in turn, enables appropriate and timely medical interventions for COVID-19 patients. In this paper, a novel framework is proposed to monitor and predict COVID-19 cases that relies on (1) a layered software architecture and (2) a deep neural network model for data processing. The proposed deep neural network model is based on a pre-trained RegNet model. However, the RegNet has limitations in effectively capturing complex shapes. The receptive field may not handle enough shape. To address this issue, we construct a new block using commonly used convolutional and max-pooling layers. It also incorporates the attention mechanism. This mechanism allows us to control a large receptive field with limited computational resources, highlight relevant features and enhance the discriminative power of the model. Comparative experiments using four different benchmark datasets have shown promising results. The proposed model exhibits high efficiency in accurately distinguishing COVID-19 images, with accuracy ranging from 96.43% to 98.96%. Sternal tuberculosis is a rare and challenging diagnosis. We present a case of a 63-year-old woman who presented with a progressively enlarging anterior chest wall mass and nonspecific symptoms. Imaging studies revealed a destructive sternal lesion. A biopsy confirmed the tuberculosis diagnosis. The patient responded well to anti-tuberculosis treatment. This case highlights the importance of considering tuberculosis when making a differential diagnosis of sternal masses and emphasizes the need for early diagnosis and treatment.

Emphysematous cholecystitis is a potentially life-threatening variant of acute cholecystitis, characterized by the presence of gas in the gallbladder wall/lumen due to the proliferation of gas-producing bacteria. Symptoms include upper right quadrant pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Laboratory tests may show nonspecific indications of systemic infection, and radiological assessment, especially CT scanning, is crucial for diagnosis. This case underscores the significance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing emphysematous cholecystitis to prevent serious complications and reduce the higher mortality rate compared to acute cholecystitis.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was crucial for the healthcare sector to detect and classify the virus using X-ray and CT scans. This has underlined the need for advanced Deep Learning and Machine Learning approaches to effectively spot and manage the virus's spread. Indeed, researchers worldwide have dynamically participated in the field by publishing an important number of papers across various databases. In this context, we present a bibliometric analysis focused on the detection and classification of COVID-19 using Deep Learning and Machine Learning techniques, based on X-Ray and CT images. We analyzed published documents of the six prominent databases (IEEE Xplore, ACM, MDPI, PubMed, Springer, and ScienceDirect) during the period between 2019 and November 2023. Our results showed that rising forces in economy and technology, especially India, China, Turkey, and Pakistan, began to compete with the great powers in the field of scientific research, which could be seen from their number of publications. Moreover, researchers contributed to Deep Learning techniques more than the use of Machine Learning techniques or the use of both together and preferred to submit their works to Springer Database. An important result was that more than 57% documents were published as Journal Articles, which was an important portion compared to other publication types (conference papers and book chapters). Moreover, the PubMed journal "Multimedia Tools and Applications" tops the list of journals with a total of 29 published articles.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EoGE) is a group of infrequent conditions that arise from the accumulation of eosinophils in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract without any secondary causes of eosinophilia. Most cases of EoGE cases show involvement of different parts of the GI tract. Herein, we report a case of EoGE with the sole involvement of Jejunum. A 57-year-old male patient presented to our center with a chief complaint of acute abdominal pain. The patient had experienced chronic abdominal pain and intermittent diarrhea for several years, but he presented to the emergency department with severe acute flank pain. The patient was first diagnosed with renal stone and treated accordingly. However, the computed tomography (CT) scan also showed other incidental findings related to his chronic abdominal pain from several years ago, including mesenteric infiltration which shows fluid appearance in some areas, mild wall thickening, and mucosal edema of the duodenum and jejunal loops with normal appearance of the ileum. Complete blood count (CBC) showed increased eosinophil (15.5%) and decreased lymphocytes (13.1%) percent. Pathological examination of enteroscopy samples of jejunum showed a mild increase in the number of eosinophils in lamina propria. Neither parasites nor granuloma was detected. However, no such changes were found in other parts of the GI tracts. Based on pathological examination, the patient was diagnosed with eosinophilic enteritis of the jejunum. EoGE does not typically involve a specific part of the GI and generally affects both the stomach and intestine. This study reported the first case of EoGE where only the jejunal part of the intestine was involved and other parts of the GI tract were spared.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) imaging has a large portion in the dose of patients from radiological procedures; therefore, accurate calculation of radiation risk estimation in this modality is inevitable. In this study, a method for determining the patient-specific effective dose using the dose-length product (DLP) index in lung CT scan using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is introduced. Methods: EGSnrc/BEAMnrc MC code was used to simulate a CT scanner. The DOSxyznrc simulation code was used to simulate a specific voxelized phantom from the patient's lungs and irradiate it according to X-ray parameter of routing lung CT scan, and dose delivered to thorax organs was calculated. Three types of phantoms were simulated according to three different body habits (slim, standard, and fat patients) in two groups of men and women. A factor was used to convert the relative dose per particle in MC code to the absolute dose. The dose was calculated in all lung organs, and the effective dose was calculated for all three groups of patient body habits. DLP index and volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) were extracted from the patient's dose report in the CT scanner. The DLP to effective dose conversion factor (k-factor) for patients with different body habitus was calculated. Results: Lung radiation dose in slim, standard, and fat patients in men was 0.164, 0.103, and 0.078 mGy/mAs and in women was 0.164, 0.105, and 0.079 mGy/mAs, respectively. The k-factor in the group of slim patients, especially in women, was higher than in other groups. Conclusions: CT scan dose indexes for slim patients are reported to be underestimated in studies. The dose report in CT scan systems should be modified in proportion to the patient's body habitus, to accurately estimate the radiation risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Noise pollution is a major threat to the health and well-being of the entire world; this issue forces researchers to find new sound absorption and insulating material. In this paper, the sound absorption coefficient and vibration damping factor of panels manufactured from Cyperus pangorei rottb and ramie fiber reinforced with epoxy resin are explored. Cyperus pangorei rottb grass fiber and ramie fiber are widely available natural fibers. Cyperus pangorei rottb grass fiber is used in mat manufacturing, whereas ramie is widely used as a fabric. Using both of these fibers, six variant panels using a vacuum resin infusion process (VRIP) were fabricated. The panels were named C, R, CR, RCR-Flat, RCR-Curved, and RCR-Perforated. All the panels were tested for the sound absorption coefficient using an impedance tube with a frequency ranging up to 6300 Hz. Modal analysis was carried out by using the impulse hammer excitation method. A micro X-ray computed tomography (CT) scan was used to study the voids present in the panels. The results were compared among the six variants. The results show that the RCR-curved panel had the highest sound-absorbing coefficient of 0.976 at a frequency range between 4500 Hz to 5000 Hz. These panels also showed better natural frequency and damping factors. The presence of internal voids in these panels enhances sound absorption properties. (1) Background: For acute ischemic strokes caused by large vessel occlusion, manually assessed thrombus volume and perviousness have been associated with treatment outcomes. However, the manual assessment of these characteristics is time-consuming and subject to inter-observer bias. Alternatively, a recently introduced fully automated deep learning-based algorithm can be used to consistently estimate full thrombus characteristics. Here, we exploratively assess the value of these novel biomarkers in terms of their association with stroke outcomes. (2) Methods: We studied two applications of automated full thrombus characterization as follows: one in a randomized trial, MR CLEAN-NO IV (n = 314), and another in a Dutch nationwide registry, MR CLEAN Registry (n = 1839). We used an automatic pipeline to determine the thrombus volume, perviousness, density, and heterogeneity. We assessed their relationship with the functional outcome defined as the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 90 days and two technical success measures as follows: successful final reperfusion, which is defined as an eTICI score of 2b-3, and successful first-pass reperfusion (FPS). (3) Results: Higher perviousness was significantly related to a better mRS in both MR CLEAN-NO IV and the MR CLEAN Registry. A lower thrombus volume and lower heterogeneity were only significantly related to better mRS scores in the MR CLEAN Registry. Ovarian cancer accounts for more deaths than any other malignancy of the female reproductive system. Early diagnosis of this disease is difficult because there are no systematic opportunistic screening methods. At advanced stages, diagnostic laparoscopy is the first step in confirming disease advancement and obtaining samples for genetic and pathologic examination needed to start chemotherapy. Swiftly starting oncological treatment is crucial for increasing the survival rate in these patients. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by accumulation of fat in the liver cells caused by means other than alcohol consumption. It is one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide and can lead to severe conditions, such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. NAFLD is often associated with other metabolic disorders, such as obesity and diabetes, and is closely related to lifestyle factors, such as diet and physical activity [1]. The diagnosis as well as management of NAFLD are complex and involve a multidisciplinary approach. The available treatment options include lifestyle modifications, pharmacological interventions, and in severe cases, liver transplantation. The increasing prevalence of NAFLD highlights the urgent requirement of effective prevention and management strategies. This disease is a growing health concern in India, given the rise in the incidence of obesity and diabetes. According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology in 2020, the prevalence of NAFLD in India is estimated to be between 9% and 32%. In accordance with the research population and diagnostic criteria employed, a study published in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology in 2019 found that the prevalence of NAFLD in India ranged from 9.6% to 32.3% [2]. The same study also revealed that the prevalence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a highly severe form of NAFLD, ranged from 1.5% to 8.4%. Some of the reasons for this are: (i) training the data with largely unbalanced dataset and (ii) training the models with datasets having all similar CT images which leads to overfitting. In this work, we proposed a method to use multiple models to classify COVID-19 positive or negative which are trained using transfer learning techniques. In addition to classifying, if a person is COVID-19 positive or negative, we have also calculated the high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) score or CT score to find the severity of infection with the help of image segmentation techniques, which assist in identifying the preliminary prognosis of the patient, and take necessary preventive measures.

Lymphangiomas are benign lesions of vascular origin with lymphatic differentiation, most commonly found in the head and neck. Generalized lymphangiomatosis is a very rare condition in adults, which is characterized by a diffuse proliferation of lymphatic vessels. The lymphangioma is composed of lymphatic endothelium-lined cystic spaces. This condition can be histologically differentiated from other vascular disorders such as cavernous or capillary hemangioma. However, many cases of lymphangioma can be confused with other vascular disorders, because of overlapping histologic findings. radiologic examinations, such as CT scan and MR imaging, are useful for assessing the morphologic feature and also the extent of disease, it is important to know the radiologic findings of generalized lymphangiomatosis. In this paper, we report a case of generalized lymphangiomatosis in a 42-year-old male who presented with left flank pain and hematuria. The first differential diagnosis was renal colic; hence he underwent an abdominopelvic computed tomography scan (CT scan). In the performed CT scan multiple cystic lesions were seen in the liver and spleen. Also, lytic lesions were seen in bones. CT-guided biopsy was performed and the result was compatible with generalized lymphangiomatosis, confirmed by cytology. Generalized lymphangiomatosis is a rarely reported disease in children and young adults. Delayed diagnosis in older patients or misdiagnosis is common due to its rarity and nonspecific clinical presentation. Different imaging modalities can incidentally diagnose the disease in asymptomatic patients. So radiologists should be aware of the disease manifestations in imaging modalities to diagnose the disease sooner and help the clinician start the therapy if needed.

Objectives: To analyze the gender, age and side association of cochlear duct length in Pakistani-Asian cochlear implant recipient population based on computed tomography imaging study. Methods: Current study retrospectively studied charts of cases who underwent cochlear implantation at the Department of Otolaryngology & Auditory Implant Centre, Capital Hospital Islamabad, over a period of two years from 1st May 2017 to 30th April 2019. These included 200 cases of both genders and of any age. In addition to basic demographic data, computed tomography findings of the temporal bone were utilized to measure the cochlear duct length. Data was analyzed using SPSS Version 23. Results: Study revealed a mean Cochlear duct length of 29.935±2.173mm (range: 25.12 to 37.60) with significant (p<0.001) association with gender with longer cochlear duct in males compared to females on right (30.50±2.384 vs. 29.36±1.887) and on left side (30.50±2.236 vs.29.32±1.935). However, no significant difference was noted for side with slightly longer cochlear duct on the right side compared to left (29.95±2.224 vs.29.92±2.171). Also, no significant association with age was noted with p=0.578 & p=0.824 for right and left side respectively. Conclusion: Pakistani population is characterized by a short mean CDL of 29.935±2.173 mm with significant association (p<0.001) with gender with longer cochlear duct length in males; and side with larger CDL on right side. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was crucial for the healthcare sector to detect and classify the virus using X-ray and CT scans. This has underlined the need for advanced Deep Learning and Machine Learning approaches to effectively spot and manage the virus's spread. Indeed, researchers worldwide have dynamically participated in the field by publishing an important number of papers across various databases. In this context, we present a bibliometric analysis focused on the detection and classification of COVID-19 using Deep Learning and Machine Learning techniques, based on X-Ray and CT images. We analyzed published documents of the six prominent databases (IEEE Xplore, ACM, MDPI, PubMed, Springer, and ScienceDirect) during the period between 2019 and November 2023. Our results showed that rising forces in economy and technology, especially India, China, Turkey, and Pakistan, began to compete with the great powers in the field of scientific research, which could be seen from their number of publications. Moreover, researchers contributed to Deep Learning techniques more than the use of Machine Learning techniques or the use of both together and preferred to submit their works to Springer Database. An important result was that more than 57% documents were published as Journal Articles, which was an important portion compared to other publication types (conference papers and book chapters). One of the most effective methods to report organ dose in CT scan (Computed Tomography scan) is to report effective dose. This study aimed to investigate the actual dose during head and neck CT scans using an anthropomorphic head phantom. In this study, an anthropomorphic phantom was constructed with natural bone and paraffin wax. Then, we considered several sites in the phantom to investigate the dose. These sites include the Brain, Thyroid, Parotid, and Lens, which were filled by Gafchromic films. Finally, we irradiated the phantom using several CT protocols. Our findings indicate that the dose of the considered organs was in the different ranges according to the protocol used. The highest dose range was related to the ten-slice spiral, ranging from 0.75 to 15.8 mGy (Mean). We showed the lowest dose range in SPECT-CT which was in the range of 0.55 to 0.1 mGy (Mean). The absorbed dose of the eyes was much higher in most protocols compared to the other organs. There is also the most significant difference between the lens and the other organs in the ten-slice spiral CT. Comparing the 10 and 256 slice scanners; we showed that the organ dose in the 256 slice is less than ten slices. The lowest mean organ dose (mGy) and SD (Standard Deviation) are related to the SPECT CT, which are 0.76±0.03, 0.95±0.02, 0.78±0.02, and 0.71±0.02 for the brain, parotid, lens, and thyroid, respectively. Purpose: The prospective study aimed to examine the central retinal artery (CRA) using computed tomography (CT). Materials and methods: Seventy adult outpatients comprising 32 men and 38 women, at a mean age of 60.6 ± 13.3 years, were enrolled in the study. The patients underwent contrast-enhanced CT. The scan timing was set to start 5.0 s after the circle of Willis began to be delineated. Results: The ophthalmic arteries (OphAs) were comfortably delineated in all. In 97% of the patients, the CRA was delineated from the original site on the OphA to a more distal segment coursing on the optic sheath. Unilateral and bilateral CRA delineations were observed in 44% and 53% of cases, respectively. The delineated CRAs demonstrated highly variable morphologies in terms of the course and length on the optic sheath. In addition, the distance between the original site of the CRA and the posterior limit of the bulb was measured. The mean distance was 18.6 ± 5.0 mm on the right and 17.8 ± 4.3 mm on the left, respectively. No significant right-to-left differences in the measurements (p > 0.05) were observed. Conclusions: If optimal scan timing is adopted, the CRA segments coursing on the optic sheath can be delineated using contrast-enhanced CT. Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of computed tomography on the reliability of Boileau classification for proximal humerus fracture sequelae. Methods: A prospective study was designed using STARD guidelines. We included all patients diagnosed with proximal humerus fracture sequelae who underwent surgery at our institution between 2017 and 2021. Preoperative radiographs and computed tomography scans were reviewed by three independent observers. Intra- and inter-observer reliability and the diagnostic accuracy of radiographs and computed tomography scans in detecting chronic dislocation, nonunion, and severe greater tuberosity dislocation were assessed. Results: Fifty-two patients were included in the study. The overall interobserver agreement was low on both radiographs and computed tomography scans. On radiographic images, we found a sensitivity of 97%, 88.9%, and 84.1%, and a specificity of 58.3%, 40%, and 53.3% to detect chronic dislocation, nonunion, and greater tuberosity dislocation, respectively. On computed tomography scans we reported a sensitivity of 100%, 96.8%, and 93.7%, and a specificity of 91.7%, 86.7%, and 93.3% to detect chronic dislocation, nonunion, and greater tuberosity dislocation, respectively. Discussion: Computed tomography scan was more specific than radiographs in the assessment of proximal humerus fracture sequelae. However, even using a three-dimensional evaluation of the deformity, the Boileau classification had a poor interobserver reliability. Level of Evidence: I. Objective: Non‐echo‐planar diffusion‐weighted (DW) magnetic resonance imaging (non‐EPI MRI) is the appropriate sequence to detect residual cholesteatoma. In the child, MRI may be clinically useful to determine the timing of the second‐look procedure. The aim of this paper was to retrospectively evaluate the performance of early MRI (before the 18th postoperative month) in detecting residual cholesteatoma in children after review by experienced specialized neuroradiologists. Study Design: Retrospective study. Setting: One university center comparative cohort. Methods: All patients who had a 2‐staged procedure for cholesteatoma with an MRI before the second stage from 2010 to 2020 were included and analyzed. Three pediatric neuroradiologists reviewed all the images blinded to the surgical result. Results: N = 141 cholesteatoma events (140 children) were included with a mean age at MRI of 10 (±4) years old. Non‐EPI MRIs were performed 10.7 (±3.8) months after the first‐stage surgery and 2.2 (±2.6) months before the second‐stage procedure. Non‐EPI MRI had a 0.57 sensitivity (SE) and 0.83 specificity (SP). MRI was reviewed in 112 cases. The diagnosis was corrected in 17 cases (15.1%) (3 true positives, 7 false negatives, and 7 false positives). SE = 0.63 (p = 0.1) and SP = 0.92 (p = 0.08) after rereading. Conclusion: Early MRI's SE is poor but SP is excellent after rereading. Evidence does not support the use of early non‐EPI MRI to modify the surgical strategy or to postpone the second look. If performed, early non‐EPI MRI should be read by specialized experienced radiologists with all 3 sequences (T1, T2, and non‐EPI DW) and apparent diffusion coefficient calculation, especially in cases of otitis media with effusion. Abstract The global economy has been dramatically impacted by COVID‐19, which has spread to be a pandemic. COVID‐19 virus affects the respiratory system, causing difficulty breathing in the patient. It is crucial to identify and treat infections as soon as possible. Traditional diagnostic reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR) methods require more time to find the infection. A high infection rate, slow laboratory analysis, and delayed test results caused the widespread and uncontrolled spread of the disease. This study aims to diagnose the COVID‐19 epidemic by leveraging a modified convolutional neural network (CNN) to quickly and safely predict the disease's appearance from computed tomography (CT) scan images and a laboratory and physiological parameters dataset. A dataset representing 500 patients was used to train, test, and validate the CNN model with results in detecting COVID‐19 having an accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1‐score of 99.33%, 99.09%, 99.52%, and 99.24%, respectively. These experimental results suggest that our strategy performs better than previously published approaches.

Background: Neck swellings are common in clinical practice and are of various types – congenital, acquired, inflammatory, neoplastic, and miscellaneous. The workup of a neck mass is different in children and adults, as the etiologies are different. Only 2–15% are malignant. Aims and Objectives: To estimate the burden of neck mass in pediatric age group clinicopathological. Materials and Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in the Otorhinolaryngology Department of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, Burdwan, a rural-based tertiary care hospital in Burdwan for 18 months from April 2021 to September 2022, and 50 patients in pediatric age group presented with neck swelling were included in this study after through history taking and meticulous clinical examination and after getting institutional ethics committee clearance. Results: It was found that most of the patients presented with swelling over the right side (26 [52.0%]), but this was not statistically significant (P=68916) (Z=0.4). Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a common human Herpesvirus with worldwide distribution. Primary EBV infection usually occurs early in life and typically presents as infectious mononucleosis consisting of fever, pharyngitis, hepatosplenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy. Usually, the disease course is benign and most patients recover uneventfully without any consequent sequel. Method and results: We present a case of an immunologically normal young male in whom an acute EBV infection caused severe pneumonitis. He was treated empirically with Paracetamol, intravenous Ceftriaxone 1 gr/day plus Azithromycin 500 mg/day. Conclusion: EBV-associated pneumonitis is rare, and treatment is usually supportive, whether antiviral agents (such as acyclovir) or steroids would be beneficial remains to be determined.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of a CT scan for detecting ongoing internal bleeding following torso injury, keeping operative findings as the gold standard. Study Design: Cross-sectional validation study. Place and Duration of Study: Radiology Department, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad Pakistan, from Jul 2021 to Oct 2021. Methodology: Contrast-enhanced CT was carried out for 100 patients with torso injury to detect the incidence of extravasated contrast material, an outcome that signifies any active haemorrhages present. The findings were then compared with the peroperative findings of the patient. Results: We detected active haemorrhages in 48 out of 100 patients on Computed Tomography. A total of 83 injury sites were recorded. Active haemorrhages were mostly visible through the spill of contrast agents in a jet stream in 61(73.4%) out of 83 injury sites. Immediate surgical intervention was performed on all the patients who were detected with active haemorrhages on CT, which confirmed the findings. In 3 patients out of 100, CT did not detect active haemorrhage, but surgical intervention showed active haemorrhage on intra-peritoneal sites. Computed Tomography had a high diagnostic accuracy for torso injuries (97.0 %) with a sensitivity of 94. 11 % and a specificity of 100 %. Conclusion: Instantaneous surgical intervention is obligatory whenever contrast extravasation is identified on Computed Tomography (CT).

Objectives: Mild head injury is defined as a pediatric Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 13-15 at admission following head trauma. There are no clear indications for neuroimaging in such children. The aim of our study was to analyze the correlation of symptoms commonly encountered following mild head injury with any abnormality on the computed tomography (CT) scan. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective and observational study done in a tertiary care hospital. Records of all the children fulfilling the inclusion criteria were retrieved. Demographic details such as age, gender, and type of injury (hit by a blunt object, fall from height, and road traffic accident), symptoms such as presence and number of episodes of vomiting, presence and duration of loss of consciousness (LOC), presence of drowsiness, headache, giddiness, seizures, focal deficits and the GCS score, and CT scan findings were noted in a predesigned proforma. A CT scan with any of the following abnormalities such as skull fracture, cerebral edema, intracranial bleed (epidural hematoma, subdural hematoma, intracerebral hematoma, and subarachnoid hemorrhage), and cerebral contusion was considered as abnormal. Any neurosurgical intervention done was also noted. Results: A total of 134 children in the age group of 1 month to 18 years with mild head injury were included in this study. The median (interquartile range) age of the children was 5 (2, 8) years, with majority being males. Road traffic accidents (34.3%) were the most common cause of injury, followed by fall from lesser than 3 feet height (31.3%). The most common symptoms were vomiting (43.6%), scalp/facial abrasions (37.2%), and LOC (31.9%). CT scan was abnormal in 53.7% of the cases, with skull fracture (35.1%) being the most common finding, followed by cerebral edema (13.4%). Among all the symptoms, ear/nosebleed or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) otorrhea/rhinorrhea had a statistically significant association with a positive CT scan with P = 0.05 and an odds ratio of 1.4 (95% confidence interval, 1-1.9). Conclusion: Children with mild head injury presenting with clinical features such as bleeding from the ear or nose and CSF otorrhea/rhinorrhea are more likely to have an abnormal CT scan. Hence, such children require close neurological observation and prompt intervention if necessary. However, abnormality on CT scan cannot be reliably ruled out based on the symptoms alone. Objectives: Anticoagulants and antiplatelet (ACAP) agents are increasingly and frequently used, especially in the elderly. The present study was carried out to assess the prevalence of delayed traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (dtICH) after a normal result on an initial head computed tomography (CT) in adults who were taking ACAP medication. Materials and Methods: The present retrospective included all adult patients who arrived in the emergency department between January 2017 and January 2021 with a history of fall from the patient's own height, while being on ACAP medication with an isolated head injury. The Institutional Review Board approved the study with a waiver of consent. The primary outcome measures were prevalence of dtICH in patients who had initial normal CT scan brain and were on ACAP medication. Results: There were 2137 patients on ACAP medication, of which 1062 were male, and 1075 were of the female gender. The mean age of the patients was 82.1 years. About 8.2% had positive first CT scans (176/2137), while 0.023 (27/1149) had dtICH. The most common positive finding on the CT scan was subarachnoid hemorrhage followed by subdural hemorrhage. Male gender positively correlated with increased risk for first CT being positive (P = 0.033). Patient's with comorbidity of cirrhosis and chemotherapy had higher risk of dtICH (P = 0.47, 0.011). Conclusion: There was a very low (0.023%) prevalence of dtICH. Dual therapy or Coumadin therapy made up the majority of tICH. Cirrhosis and chemotherapy were associated with the risk of a repeat CT scan being positive with an initial CT scan negative. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Radiochemotherapy (RCT) in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) causes side effects in healthy tissue such as the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM). These side effects depend on the interval between completion of RCT and restaging CT. For salvage surgery, the optimal time window for surgery is clinically postulated at between 6 and 12 weeks after completion of RCT. Thus, no extensive tissue fibrosis is to be expected. This interval is based on clinical studies exploring surgical complications. Studies directly exploring radiation-induced changes of the SCM in HNSCC patients are sparse. This study applied radiomics to quantify radiation-induced changes in the SCM and paravertebral musculature (PVM). In 98 locally advanced HNSCC patients, three radiomic key features (volume, mean positivity of pixels, uniformity) were analyzed in CT scans before and in the mean 8 weeks after treatment. No significant changes in radiomic key features were observed after adjustment for changes in body mass index (BMI). These data support the clinically postulated time window for salvage surgery of 6 to 12 weeks. Three radiomic key parameters, (1) volume, (2) mean positivity of pixels (MPP), and (3) uniformity, were extracted with mint LesionTM in the staging CTs and restaging CTs of 98 HNSCC patients. Of these, 25 were female, the mean age was 62 (±9.6) years, and 80.9% were UICC Stage IV. The mean restaging interval was 55 (±28; range 29–229) days. Only the mean volume significantly decreased after RCT, from 9.0 to 8.4 and 96.5 to 91.9 mL for the SCM and PVM, respectively (both p = 0.007, both Cohen's d = 0.28). In addition, the mean body mass index (BMI) decreased from 23.9 (±4.2) to 21.0 (±3.6) kg/m² (p < 0.001; Cohen's d = 0.9). The mean BMI decreased significantly and was correlated with the volume decrease for the SCM (r = 0.27; p = 0.007) and PVM (r = 0.41; p < 0.001). If t-test p-values were adjusted for the BMI decrease, no significant change in volumes for the SCM and PVM was observed (both p > 0.05). Rhino‑Orbital‑Cerebral Mucormycosis (ROCM) is a life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection, which mostly affects immunocompromised patients. There has been a notable rise in the incidence of ROCM during the COVID-19 outbreak. In this study we described imaging characteristics of ROCM in detail, from early sinonasal inflammation to late intracranial involvement. In this retrospective study, Computed Tomography (CT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of 48 patients with proven ROCM in biopsy or culture were evaluated. All the patients had a history of COVID-19 infection within the previous three months. The imaging findings were described and the frequency of different parameters was reported. Paranasal inflammation was detected in all the patients on imaging. The most common involved paranasal sinuses were ethmoid sinuses (97.9%). On diffusionweighted images, restricted diffusion was seen in the paranasal sinuses of 81.1% of the patients. In addition, sinus wall bone involvement was observed in 87.5% of the cases. The most common anatomical sites for extrasinus involvement were the retroantral soft tissue (89.6%) and orbital cavity (87.5%). Dacryocystitis in 50%, optic nerve inflammation in 43.2%, globe involvement in 18.9%, and trigeminal nerve involvement in 16% of the patients were detected. There was extension of inflammation through the cavernous sinuses and alongside the internal carotid arteries in 24% of the patients. Characteristic imaging findings of ROCM not only play a vital role in the early diagnosis of this infection, but they also contribute to the assessment of the extension of inflammation, which is vitally important in surgical planning. This study compared the predictive utility of Marshall, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Helsinki, and NeuroImaging Radiological Interpretation System (NIRIS) scorings based on early non-contrast brain computed tomography (CT) scans in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The area under a receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was used to determine the predictive utility of scoring systems. Subgroup analyses were performed among patients with head AIS scores > 1. A total of 996 patients were included, of whom 786 (78.9%) were males. In-hospital mortality, ICU admission, neurosurgical intervention, and prolonged total hospital length of stay (THLOS) were recorded for 27 (2.7%), 207 (20.8%), 82 (8.2%), and 205 (20.6%) patients, respectively. For predicting in-hospital mortality, all scoring systems had AUROC point estimates above 0.9 and 0.75 among all included patients and patients with head AIS > 1, respectively, without any significant differences. The Marshall and NIRIS scoring systems had higher AUROCs for predicting ICU admission and neurosurgery than the other scoring systems. For predicting THLOS ≥ seven days, although the NIRIS and Marshall scoring systems seemed to have higher AUROC point estimates when all patients were analyzed, five scoring systems performed roughly the same in the head AIS > 1 subgroup. Background: Roughly 5% of patients with blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) have a blunt bowel and/or mesenteric injury (BBMI). Determining the need for operative management in these patients can be challenging when hemodynamically stable. Single center studies have proposed scoring systems based on CT findings to guide management. Our study aimed to determine the predictability of abdominopelvic CT scan (CT A/P) findings in conjunction with clinical exam to determine the necessity of operative intervention for BBMI. Methods: Patients presenting from 2017 to 2022 to the University of South Alabama Level 1 Trauma Center after motor vehicle collision were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with CT findings suggestive of BBMI were further analyzed, noting CT findings, Glasgow coma scale (GCS), shock index, abdominal exam, operative or nonoperative management, and intraoperative intervention. Results: 1098 patients with BAT underwent CT A/P. 139 patients had ≥1 finding suggestive of BBMI. 38 patients underwent surgical exploration and 30 had surgically confirmed BBMI. 27 patients required intervention for BBMI. Univariate analysis indicated that pneumoperitoneum (p < 0.0001), active extravasation of contrast (p = 0.0001), hemoperitoneum without solid organ injury (SOI) (p < 0.0001), peritonitis (p < 0.0001), and mesenteric stranding(p < 0.05) were significantly associated with intervention. Conclusion: In total, 30 patients had surgically confirmed BBMI. Active extravasation, pneumoperitoneum, hemoperitoneum without SOI, mesenteric stranding, and peritonitis were significant indicators of BBMI requiring intervention. CT and clinical findings cannot reliably predict the need for surgical intervention without ≥1 of these findings. Initial nonoperative management with serial clinical exams should be strongly considered to reduce incidence of nontherapeutic laparotomies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The primary goal in treating craniocerebral trauma due to any cause is to preserve the patient’s life and remaining neurological function. It has also made the neuroradiologist an indispensable element of the trauma treatment team. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of patients with brain trauma. Aims and Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of CT in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of patients with brain trauma. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted on patients with head injuries who were referred to the Department of Radiodiagnosis over a 2 years. Details were noted down on pro forma either immediately before or after the procedure was carried out, depending on the status of the patient. Few of the patients underwent plain radiography of the skull before conducting the CT scan. Results: In the present study, the most common lesion observed by CT was edema (49%) followed by contusion (48%), whereas least lesion was observed as intraventricular hemorrhage (4%) and intracerebral hemorrhage (8%). In the present study, the patient with low scores (3–5) showed early deterioration as compared to those with higher scores. This could be attributable to the severity of the primary injury. Late deterioration was more common than early deterioration in scores of >8 where mortality within 48 h was virtually nil and the recovery rate was much higher. Conclusion: This simple, affordable, highly successful, and safe imaging modality should be regarded the initial imaging modality of choice in acute head injury, as it serves as the foundation for cornerstone for rapid and effective diagnosis.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma is the most prevalent kind of tumor of the buccal mucosa. For the purpose of planning surgery and radiotherapy for tumors of the tongue, floor of the mouth, and oropharyx, imaging to locate the size and extent of the original tumor is essential. Therefore, it is beneficial to determine the radiation field, to ensure adequate tumor margin excision, and overall to improve the patient’s prognosis. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of computed tomography (CT) scan in diagnosis of buccal mucosal malignancies and its characteristics. Materials and Methods: Total 50 patients suspecting buccal mucosa cancer were referred to Radiology Department. They were subjected for CT scan examination on 16 slice CT scanner. CT scan evaluation was made for size and extent of primary mass lesion. The staging of disease was performed with TNM classification. Results: In our study, out of 50 patients, the fourth decade (30%) and fifth decade (26%) saw the highest incidence of buccal mucosa cancer. The majority of the patients were suffering from severe disease; 44% had T4 stage and 58% had Stage IV. Conclusion: CT plays a very important role in staging of buccal mucosa malignancy and effectively detects bone erosion (98% sensitive) and invasion to infratemporal fossa. However, during the early stages of cancer, a CT scan might not be very helpful.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) imaging has a large portion in the dose of patients from radiological procedures; therefore, accurate calculation of radiation risk estimation in this modality is inevitable. In this study, a method for determining the patient-specific effective dose using the dose–length product (DLP) index in lung CT scan using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is introduced. Methods: EGSnrc/BEAMnrc MC code was used to simulate a CT scanner. The DOSxyznrc simulation code was used to simulate a specific voxelized phantom from the patient’s lungs and irradiate it according to X-ray parameter of routing lung CT scan, and dose delivered to thorax organs was calculated. Three types of phantoms were simulated according to three different body habits (slim, standard, and fat patients) in two groups of men and women. A factor was used to convert the relative dose per particle in MC code to the absolute dose. The dose was calculated in all lung organs, and the effective dose was calculated for all three groups of patient body habits. DLP index and volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) were extracted from the patient’s dose report in the CT scanner. The DLP to effective dose conversion factor (k-factor) for patients with different body habitus was calculated. Results: Lung radiation dose in slim, standard, and fat patients in men was 0.164, 0.103, and 0.078 mGy/mAs and in women was 0.164, 0.105, and 0.079 mGy/mAs, respectively. The k-factor in the group of slim patients, especially in women, was higher than in other groups. Conclusions: CT scan dose indexes for slim patients are reported to be underestimated in studies. The dose report in CT scan systems should be modified in proportion to the patient’s body habitus, to accurately estimate the radiation risk.

Noise pollution is a major threat to the health and well-being of the entire world; this issue forces researchers to find new sound absorption and insulating material. In this paper, the sound absorption coefficient and vibration damping factor of panels manufactured from Cyperus pangorei rottb and ramie fiber reinforced with epoxy resin are explored. Cyperus pangorei rottb grass fiber and ramie fiber are widely available natural fibers. Cyperus pangorei rottb grass fiber is used in mat manufacturing, whereas ramie is widely used as a fabric. Using both of these fibers, six variant panels using a vacuum resin infusion process (VRIP) were fabricated. The panels were named C, R, CR, RCR-Flat, RCR-Curved, and RCR-Perforated. All the panels were tested for the sound absorption coefficient using an impedance tube with a frequency ranging up to 6300 Hz. Modal analysis was carried out by using the impulse hammer excitation method. A micro X-ray computed tomography (CT) scan was used to study the voids present in the panels. The results were compared among the six variants. The results show that the RCR-curved panel had the highest sound-absorbing coefficient of 0.976 at a frequency range between 4500 Hz to 5000 Hz. These panels also showed better natural frequency and damping factors. The presence of internal voids in these panels enhances sound absorption properties. These panels can be used at higher frequencies.
