Recent autonomous driving systems heavily rely on 3D point cloud data collected from multiple sensors for environmental awareness and decision-making. However, it is unrealistic to expect the autonomous driving system to recognize all road environments and handle every traffic situation. Models for autonomous driving need to be updated in real time in order for the system to adapt to more situations. This is where online continual learning becomes crucial. Online continual learning is an important method in the field of autonomous driving, as it enables models to update their parameters with streaming input data for adapting to new environments and conditions. Online continual learning in the field of autonomous driving faces several challenges: inefficient data fusion, catastrophic forgetting, insufficient computational resources, violation of road privacy and categories imbalance. To tackle these challenges, we propose an Analytic Online Continual Learning method for 3D Point Cloud Classification (3D-AOCL). This approach utilizes Analytic Learning to update parameters and integrates a feature fusion module along with a category balancer to address the above issues. It is capable of fusing data in feature level, balancing samples across various categories and updating parameters by calculating the analytical solution. We have validated our method on the vehicle side, the infrastructure side, and vehicle-infrastructure cooperative data on the V2X-Seq dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that our model effectively addresses key issues in online continual learning for autonomous driving systems, outperforming other models by approximately 4.00% to 6.00% in AMCA scores while only keeping 0.75% trainable parameters. more...

Abstract Objective It is crucial to conduct systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) to make causal references, in order to inform the clinical guidelines and decision-making. The high reporting quality of reviews through compliance with the guidelines Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews-2 (AMSTAR-2) could promote the consistency and reproducibility across the published articles. The purpose of this meta-epidemiological study is to evaluate the reporting methodological quality of SRs on the association between sleep duration and hypertension. Methods An electronic search in an online database was performed to retrieve systematic reviews and meta-analyses published up to 31st December 2022. Data screening and extraction were conducted by two investigators. The reporting quality of each included article was measured with reference to the 27-item 2020 PRISMA checklist, and methodological quality was evaluated using the AMSTAR-2. PRISMA evaluation was determined by total scores of individual SR and items scores and AMSTAR-2 assessment was also conducted using four categories. Results Of 2269 articles captured in the initial search, 15 SRs were included in the final analyses. All SRs had more than one incomplete PRISMA item. The mean of total scores was 20.5 (range 14–25), and the results of the AMSTAR-2 assessment were critically low to low. The reporting quality of “rationale,” “objectives,” “selection process,” “study selection,” “discussion,” and ‘support’ was fully reported. SRs that reported registration information and protocol had a higher PRISMA score than articles that reported certain deficiencies. From the results of the AMSTAR-2 assessment, the methodological quality of these SRs and MAs was critically low to low. None of the included literature provided a list of excluded articles, and the report of the search strategy was incomplete; half of the SRs did not use appropriate tools to assess the risk of bias in each included study. Conclusions Both the reporting and methodological quality of overall studies are less than ideal, with several key items being consistently under-reported. The quality measured by AMSTAR-2 is mainly consistent with the quality of reporting. Authors, reviewers, and journal editors should raise awareness and move forward to encourage completeness of SR reporting based on the results, which can aid in enhancing the quality of evidence. Abstract Studies aiming to understand the effects of storage on whole blood (WB) clotting often rely on characterizing coagulation under static conditions. Minimal work has explored the effects of physiologic shear on clot formation and thrombolysis utilizing fractionated and reconstituted whole blood (rWB) products. WB was fractionated into platelet‐free plasma, packed red blood cells, and platelets storing each component under its ideal conditions—including platelet cryopreservation. Recombination at their native ratios was accomplished over 91 days of storage and clotting/thrombolysis was analyzed utilizing thromboelastography and Chandler loop. rWB preserved clot strength through 91 days with minimal deviation from baseline, in contrast to WB stored at 4°C which experienced a significant decline by storage Day‐42. Clot formation under shear for both rWB and WB led to increased clot mass through storage. No significant deviation from baseline was appreciated until Day 70 of storage in rWB. Increasing degrees of thrombolysis were seen in both groups, with rWB significantly deviating from baseline at Day 70. No significant changes in overall clot architecture occurred throughout storage and recombination. Abstract Thrombosis can lead to a wide variety of life-threatening circumstances. As current thrombolytic drug screening models often poorly predict drug profiles, leading to failure of thrombolytic therapy or clinical translation, more representative clot substrates are necessary for drug evaluation. Utilizing a Chandler loop device to form clot analogs at high shear has gained popularity in stroke societies. However, shear-dependent clot microstructure has not been fully addressed and low shear conditions are often overlooked. We herein characterized the impact of wall shear rate (126 to 951 s−1) on clot properties in the Chandler loop. Different revolutions (20–60) per minute and tubing sizes (3.2 to 7.9 mm) were employed to create different sized clots to mimic various thrombosis applications. Increased shear resulted in decreased RBC counts (76.9 ± 4.3% to 17.6 ± 0.9%) and increased fibrin (10 to 60%) based on clot histology. Increased fibrin sheet morphology and platelet aggregates were observed at higher shear under scanning electron microscope. These results show the significant impact of shear and tubing size on resulting clot properties and demonstrate the capability of forming a variety of reproducible in-vivo-like clot analogs in the Chandler loop device controlling for simple parameters to tune clot characteristics. The fungus Xylaria sp. Z184, harvested from the leaves of Fallopia convolvulus (L.) Á. Löve, has been isolated for the first time. Chemical investigation on the methanol extract of the culture broth of the titles strain led to the discovery of three new pyranone derivatives, called fallopiaxylaresters A–C (1–3), and a new bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoid, named fallopiaxylarol A (4), along with the first complete set of spectroscopic data for the previously reported pestalotiopyrone M (5). Known pyranone derivatives (6–11), sesquiterpenoids (12–14), isocoumarin derivatives (15–17), and an aromatic allenic ether (18) were also co-isolated in this study. All new structures were elucidated by the interpretation of HRESIMS, 1D, 2D NMR spectroscopy, and quantum chemical computation approach. The in vitro antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and α-glucosidase-inhibitory activities of the selected compounds and the crude extract were evaluated. The extract was shown to inhibit nitric oxide (NO) production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in murine RAW264.7 macrophage cells, with an inhibition rate of 77.28 ± 0.82% at a concentration of 50 μg/mL. Abstract A great need exists for the development of a more representative in‐vitro model to efficiently screen novel thrombolytic therapies. We herein report the design, validation, and characterization of a highly reproducible, physiological scale, flowing clot lysis platform with real‐time fibrinolysis monitoring to screen thrombolytic drugs utilizing a fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)‐labeled clot analog. Using this Real‐Time Fluorometric Flowing Fibrinolysis assay (RT‐FluFF assay), a tPa‐dependent degree of thrombolysis was observed both via clot mass loss as well as fluorometrically monitored release of FITC‐labeled fibrin degradation products. Percent clot mass loss ranged from 33.6% to 85.9% with fluorescence release rates of 0.53 to 1.17 RFU/min in 40 and 1000 ng/mL tPa conditions, respectively. The platform is easily adapted to produce pulsatile flows. Hemodynamics of human main pulmonary artery were mimicked through matching dimensionless flow parameters calculated using clinical data. Increasing pressure amplitude range (4–40 mmHg) results in a 20% increase of fibrinolysis at 1000 ng/mL tPA. Increasing shear flow rate (205–913 s−1) significantly increases fibrinolysis and mechanical digestion. These findings suggest pulsatile level affects thrombolytic drug activities and the proposed in‐vitro clot model offers a versatile testing platform for thrombolytic drug screening. more...

Objectives. Previous studies reported that there were disparities in hypertension management among different ethnic groups, and this study aimed to systematically determine the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rates of hypertension in multiple Chinese ethnic groups. Methods. We searched Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science for articles up to 25 October, 2022. The pooled prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rates of hypertension were estimated with 95% confidence intervals (CI). The heterogeneity of estimates among studies was assessed by the Cochran Q test and I2 statistic. Meta-regression analyses were conducted to identify the factors influencing the heterogeneity of the pooled prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rate of hypertension. Results. In total, 45 publications including 193,788 cases and 587,826 subjects were eligible for the analyses. The lowest prevalence was found in the Han group (27.0%), and the highest prevalence was in the Mongolian population (39.8%). The awareness rates ranged from 24.4% to 58.0% in the four ethnic groups. Both the highest treatment and control rates were found in the Mongolian population (50.6% and 16.0%, respectively), whereas the Yi group had the lowest control rate (8.0%). In addition, the study year, the mean age of subjects, mean body mass index of subjects, tobacco use (%), alcohol use (%), residence (urban%), and education (primary school%) had varied effects on heterogeneity. Conclusions. These findings highlight the disparities in prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rates of hypertension in a different ethnic population of China, which could provide suggestions for making targeted prevention measures. more...

BackgroundProstate cancer is the second most common cancer in males worldwide, and multitudes of factors have been reported to be associated with prostate cancer risk.ObjectivesWe aim to conduct the phenome-wide exposed-omics analysis of the risk factors for prostate cancer and verify the causal associations between them.MethodsWe comprehensively searched published systematic reviews and meta-analyses of cohort studies and conducted another systematic review and meta-analysis of the Mendelian randomization studies investigating the associations between extrinsic exposures and prostate cancer, thus to find all of the potential risk factors for prostate cancer. Then, we launched a phenome-wide two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to validate the potentially causal relationships using the PRACTICAL consortium and UK Biobank.ResultsWe found a total of 55 extrinsic exposures for prostate cancer risk. The causal effect of 30 potential extrinsic exposures on prostate cancer were assessed, and the results showed docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) [odds ratio (OR)=0.806, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.661-0.984, p=0.034], insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) (OR=1.0002, 95%CI: 1.00004-1.0004, p=0.016), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (OR=0.9993, 95%CI: 0.9986-0.99997, p=0.039), and body mass index (BMI) (OR=0.995, 95%CI: 0.990-0.9999, p=0.046) were associated with prostate cancer risk. However, no association was found between the other 26 factors and prostate cancer risk.ConclusionsOur study discovered the phenome-wide exposed-omics risk factors profile of prostate cancer, and verified that the IGFBP-3, DHA, BMI, and SLE were causally related to prostate cancer risk. Background: The incidence of hypertension has been increasing in the past decade. Little is known regarding the relationship between hypertension and human development index (HDI). Objectives: The objective is to identify the relationship between the prevalence of hypertension and human development index (HDI). Methods: An ecological study was conducted. The data from World Health Organization reports and United Nations Development Programme reports for 182 countries, including the HDI values, rates of tobacco use, physical inactivity, alcohol use, and salt intake. The Generalized Additive Models were implemented to assess the association between the prevalence of hypertension and the HDI. Results: Among 182 countries, the prevalence of hypertension ranged from 13% to 41%. The highest HDI value was 0.949 and the lowest was 0.352. In model 1, statistically significant associations were found in three populations, the largest R2 was 0.245. In model 2, the largest R2 was 0.485. In linear part, there was negative relationship in female population, while HDI was associated with prevalence of hypertension in all three populations, which was explained by spline function. The curve indicated that there were three intervals from low to high HDI. From 0 to 0.6 and 0.8 to 1, an evident decreasing trend of prevalence was found, while the rate increased when HDI was in the interval of 0.6 to 0.8. Conclusions: In this study, we identified the association between the prevalence of hypertension and the HDI and the underlying pattern of the relationship. Viscoelastic transformation of tissue drives aberrant cellular functions and is an early biomarker of disease pathogenesis. Tissues scale a range of viscoelastic moduli, from biofluids to bone. Moreover, viscoelastic behavior is governed by the frequency at which tissue is probed, yielding distinct viscous and elastic responses modulated over a wide frequency band. Existing tools do not quantify wideband viscoelastic spectra in tissues, leaving a vast knowledge gap. We present wideband laser speckle rheological microscopy (WB-SHEAR) that reveals elastic and viscous response over sub-megahertz frequencies previously not investigated in tissue. WB-SHEAR uses an optical, noncontact approach to quantify wideband viscoelastic spectra in specimens spanning a range of moduli from low-viscosity fibrin to highly elastic bone. Via laser scanning, micromechanical imaging is enabled to access wideband viscoelastic spectra in heterogeneous tumor specimens with high spatial resolution (25 micrometers). Men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexuals are the populations with the fastest growing HIV infection rates in China. We characterize the epidemic growth and age patterns between these two routes from 2004 to 2015 in Chongqing and Shenzhen, China.Data were downloaded from the National HIV/ AIDS Comprehensive Response Information Management System. For the new HIV diagnoses of heterosexuals and MSM in both cities, we estimated the growth rates by fitting different sub-exponential models. Heat maps are used to show their age patterns. We used histograms to compare these patterns by birth cohort.The MSM epidemics grew significantly in both cities. Chongqing experienced quadratic growth in HIV reported cases with an estimated growth rate of 0.086 per week and a "deceleration rate" of 0.673. HIV reported cases of MSM in Shenzhen grew even more drastically with a growth rate of 0.033 per week and "deceleration rate" of 0.794. The new infections are mainly affecting the ages of 18 to 30 in Chongqing and ages of 20 to 35 in Shenzhen. They peaked in early 1990's and mid-1990's birth cohorts in Chongqing and Shenzhen respectively. The HIV epidemic among heterosexuals grew rapidly in both cities. The growth rates were estimated as 0.02 and 0.028 in Chongqing and Shenzhen respectively whereas the "deceleration rates" were 0.878 and 0.790 in these two places. It affected mostly aged 18 to 75 in males and 18 to 65 in females in Chongqing and aged 18 to 45 in males and 18 to 50 in females in Shenzhen in 2015. In Chongqing, the heterosexual female epidemics display two peaks in HIV diagnoses in the birth cohorts of early 1950's and early 1980's, with heterosexual male epidemics peaked in early 1940's and early 1960's. The heterosexual male and female epidemics display higher rates in the birth cohort 1940-1960, than the birth cohort 1960-1990. It peaked in birth cohorts of 1950's and 1980's in Shenzhen.We revealed striking differences in epidemic growth and age patterns of the HIV epidemics in these two cities. BACKGROUND:In the past decades, extremely serious road accidents with a death toll over ten in each have become a severe public health problem in China. This study investigates risk factors contributing to extremely serious road accidents, which will be crucial for accident prevention. METHODS:Collecting data from The Road Accident Statistical Annual Report openly issued by China's Traffic Management Bureau of the Public Security Ministry for the time period 2004-2015, we used the monthly case number of extreme serious road accidents as the dependent variable. We then selected ten risk factors as primary independent variables: professional driver, driving under influence (alcohol or drug), fatigue, vehicle type, overload, brake problem, weather, road classification, terrain, and region. The method of negative binominal regression was implemented to investigate the association between these risk factors and extremely serious road accidents. RESULTS:A total of 346 extremely serious road accidents were included in our analysis. On a national scale, we found that professional driver [incidence rate ratio (IRR): 1.10, 95% CI: 1.02-1.19], fatigue (IRR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.03-1.29), large vehicle type (IRR: 1.11, 95% CI: 1.03-1.21), overload (IRR: 1.09, 95% CI: 1.03-1.16), and terrain (IRR: 1.09, 95% CI: 1.01-1.18) were significantly associated with extremely serious road accidents. Besides, separate analyses on western and non-western region indicated that both regions had shared risk factors as well as distinct factors. CONCLUSIONS:Our study identifies professional driver, fatigue, large vehicle type, overload, and terrain as significant risk factors of extremely serious road accidents in China, and targeted and preventative measures could be taken based on our findings. more...

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the most common psychological disorder among victims of natural disasters. PTSD prevalence and risk factors among adolescents remain unidentified among victims of the Wen-Chuan earthquake. This study screened survivors to determine the prevalence of PTSD and examined risk factors for PTSD among adolescents at three Wen-Chuan secondary schools. PTSD screening was done using the PTSD Checklist-Civilian version (PCL-C). A generalized estimating equation approach was used to control for repeated measurements in the same individuals and to predict risk factors for PTSD. The study included 1,474 students in grades 7, 8, 10 and 11 from three Wen-Chuan secondary schools at 4, 6, 9, and 12 months after the earthquake. The average age of students was 15.0 (13.0, 16.0) both at the first and the second time point, and 16.0 (14.0, 17.0) at the third and the fourth time point. The screened prevalence of PTSD was 11.2%, 8.8%, 6.8% and 5.7% at 4, 6, 9, and 12 months after the earthquake, respectively. Risk factors for PTSD were: time duration, school location (the proximity of epicenter), grade, nationality, parent injury, and severe property damage. In conclusion, PTSD risk factors are in accordance with previous studies; however, the role of nationality and time duration in post-traumatic stress disorder merits further research.
