Differences in the depth of the water surface affect the hydrodynamics of the ship so there is a possibility that the ship will behave differently in deep water and shallow water. The surface flow generated by the hull varies radically due to the speed of the ship and the effects of water depth. At a certain speed, the ship experiences a critical speed condition, which will affect the total resistance of the ship. This study examines the Fridsma ship's resistance to differences in water depth at several speeds. Numerical computation is used in this study to simulate the characteristics of a planing hull form. The Finite Volume Method (FMV) is used to observe fluid flow due to differences in water level with the RANS (Reynolds-Averaged Navier - Stokes) equation in predicting ship resistance. K-ε was modeled as a turbulent and volume of fluid (VOF) model to represent the air and water phases. This study uses a morphing grid mesh to analyze the shape of the hull in numerical simulations. The total resistance of Fridsma in shallow waters increased at each speed when compared to the total resistance in deep waters. On average in deep waters, it can reduce the total resistance by around 22.34% compared to shallow waters. This is caused by the squat phenomenon that occurs in the hull.

This study demonstrated that both copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO‐NPs) and copper nanoparticles (Cu‐NPs) can cause swelling, inflammation, and cause damage to the mitochondria of alveolar type II epithelial cells in mice. Cellular examinations indicated that both CuO‐NPs and Cu‐NPs can reduce cell viability and harm the mitochondria of human bronchial epithelial cells, particularly Beas‐2B cells. However, it is clear that CuO‐NPs exhibit a more pronounced detrimental effect compared with Cu‐NPs. Using bafilomycin A1 (Bafi A1), an inhibitor of lysosomal acidification, was found to enhance cell viability and alleviate mitochondrial damage caused by CuO‐NPs. Additionally, Bafi A1 also reduces the accumulation of dihydrolipoamide S‐acetyltransferase (DLAT), a marker for mitochondrial protein toxicity, induced by CuO‐NPs. This observation suggests that the toxicity of CuO‐NPs depends on the distribution of copper particles within cells, a process facilitated by the acidic environment of lysosomes. The release of copper ions is thought to be triggered by the acidic conditions within lysosomes, which aligns with the lysosomal Trojan horse mechanism. However, this association does not seem to be evident with Cu‐NPs. In mice, CuO‐NPs caused more extensive lung tissue damage than Cu‐NPs. In Beas‐2B cells, inhibition of lysosomal acidification with Bafi A1 markedly decreased CuO‐NPs‐induced mitochondrial damage. The lysosomal Trojan horse mechanism of aggravates CuO‐NPs‐induced cuproptosis in Beas‐2B cells, which can be reversed by Bafi A1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), a typical layered material, has important applications in various fields, such as optoelectronics, catalysis, electronic devices, sensors, and supercapacitors. Extensive research has been carried out on few-layered MoS2 in the field of electrochemistry due to its large specific surface area, abundant active sites and short electron transport path. However, the preparation of few-layered MoS2 is a significant challenge. This work presents a simple one-pot hydrothermal method for synthesizing few-layered MoS2. Furthermore, it investigates the exfoliation effect of different amounts of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as a stripping agent on the layer number of MoS2. Na+ ions, as alkali metal ions, can intercalate between layers to achieve the purpose of exfoliating MoS2. Additionally, NaBH4 exhibits reducibility, which can effectively promote the formation of the metallic phase of MoS2. Few-layered MoS2, as an electrode for supercapacitor, possesses a wide potential window of 0.9 V, and a high specific capacitance of 150 F g−1 at 1 A g−1. Ionic electroactive polymer (iEAP) actuators are recognized as exceptional candidates for artificial muscle development, with significant potential applications in bionic robotics, space exploration, and biomedical fields. Here, we developed a new iEAP actuator utilizing high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)-reinforced poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS, PP) hybrid electrodes and a Nafion/EMIBF4 ion-exchange membrane via a straightforward and efficient spray printing technique. The SWCNT/PP actuator exhibits significantly enhanced electric conductivity (262.9 S/cm) and specific capacitance (22.5 mF/cm2), benefitting from the synergistic effect between SWCNTs and PP. These improvements far surpass those observed in activated carbon aerogel bucky-gel-electrode-based actuators. Furthermore, we evaluated the electroactive behaviors of the SWCNT/PP actuator under alternating square-wave voltages (1–3 V) and frequencies (0.01–100 Hz). The results reveal a substantial bending displacement of 6.44 mm and a high bending strain of 0.61% (at 3 V, 0.1 Hz), along with a long operating stability of up to 10,000 cycles (at 2 V, 1 Hz). This study introduces a straightforward and efficient spray printing technique for the successful preparation of iEAP actuators with superior electrochemical and electromechanical properties as intended, which hold promise as artificial muscles in the field of bionic robotics. Ti3C2Tx MXene, as a common two-dimensional material, has a wide range of applications in electrochemical energy storage. However, the surface forces of few-layer or monolayer Ti3C2Tx MXene lead to easy agglomeration, which hinders the demonstration of its performance due to the characteristics of layered materials. Herein, we report a facile method for preparing monolayer Ti3C2Tx MXene on nickel foam to achieve a self-supporting structure for supercapacitor electrodes under high electrostatic fields. Moreover, the specific capacitance varies with the deposition of different-concentration monolayer Ti3C2Tx MXene on nickel foam. As a result, Ti3C2Tx/NF has a high specific capacitance of 319 mF cm−2 at 2 mA cm−2 and an excellent long-term cycling stability of 94.4% after 7000 cycles. It was observed that the areal specific capacitance increases, whereas the mass specific capacitance decreases with the increasing loading mass. Attributable to the effect of the high electrostatic field, the self-supporting structure of the Ti3C2Tx/NF becomes denser as the concentration of the monolayer Ti3C2Tx MXene ink increases, ultimately affecting its electrochemical performance. This work provides a simple way to overcome the agglomeration problem of few-layer or monolayer MXene, then form a self-supporting electrode exhibiting excellent electrochemical performance. This paper presents an optimization process for a catamaran hull form. The entire optimization process was managed using the CAD-CFD integration platform CAESES. The resistance of the demi-hull was simulated in calm water using the CFD solver STAR-CCM+, and an inviscid fluid model was used to reduce the computing time. The Free-Form Deformation (FFD) method was used to make local changes in the bulbous bow. For the optimization of the bulbous bow, the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA)-II was applied, and the optimization variables were the length, breadth, and angle between the bulbous bow and the base line. The Lackenby method was used for global variation of the bow of the hull. Nine hull forms were generated by moving the center of buoyancy while keeping the displacement constant. The optimum bow part was selected by comparing the resistance of the forms. After obtaining the optimum demi-hull, the distance between two demi-hulls was optimized. The results show that the proposed optimization sequence can be used to reduce the resistance of a catamaran in calm water.
