As a promising technology toward high‐efficiency organic light‐emitting diode (OLED), thermally activated sensitized fluorescence (TASF) has encountered major obstacles toward achieving sufficient operational lifetime when it comes to deep blue emission that is desirable for display applications. We have systematically investigated various factors affecting TASF OLED stability and successfully improved device lifetime by using a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) sensitizer with a fast reverse intersystem crossing rate (kRISC). With the increasing performance demand from the display market, it has become ever more important to realize wide color gamut and low power consumption. Employing a phosphorescence‐sensitized fluorescence (PSF) mechanism, we introduced a narrow‐spectrum green light‐emitting layer (EML) to the state‐of‐the‐art OLED device structure suitable for mass production and investigate its effect on device performance. Compared with the reference phosphorescent device, the optimal PSF devices have achieved more than 20% efficiency improvement in the range of CIEx 0.17‐ 0.27, showing the advantages of high efficiency and high color purity. The low efficiency of blue devices has been a bottleneck problem for OLED panel manufacturers for a long time. In recent years, TASF‐OLED has attracted great attention because of the high external quantum efficiency and color purity, which makes it a promising technology for high efficiency deep blue OLEDs. Photoalignment layers comprising Polymer 1 were prepared using linearly polarized UV-irradiation for chloroform-vapor annealing of π-conjugated oligomer films, both processes conducted at room temperature. The resultant uniaxially oriented monodomain films exhibited S = 0.74 (at Pr = 0.90) and 0.82 (at Pr = 0.95) in OF and OF2T films, respectively, apparently limited by film dewetting in comparison to S = 0.82 ± 0.01 from thermal annealing on rubbed polyimide alignment and Polymer 1 photoalignment layers. The time to arrive at maximum S values varied from 5-10 s to 6-8 min on rubbed polyimide alignment layers and Polymer 1 photoalignment layer, respectively, because of favorable π-π interactions enhanced by rubbing. In contrast, PF2T could not be oriented on either type of alignment layers after annealing under saturated chloroform vapor up to 14 h. Annealing of an OF2T film under saturated chlorobenzene vapor at room temperature permitted lyotropic nematic mesomorphism to be observed in situ, which is equivalent to thermotropic nematic mesomorphism as the driving force behind thermal annealing. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
