Ferro‐rotational (FR) materials, renowned for their distinctive material functionalities, present challenges in the growth of homo‐FR crystals (i.e., single FR domain). This study explores a cost‐effective approach to growing homo‐FR helimagnetic RbFe(SO4)2 (RFSO) crystals by lowering the crystal growth temperature below the TFR threshold using the high‐pressure hydrothermal method. Through polarized neutron diffraction experiments, it is observed that nearly 86% of RFSO crystals consist of a homo‐FR domain. Notably, RFSO displays remarkable stability in the FR phase, with an exceptionally high TFR of ≈573 K. Furthermore, RFSO exhibits a chiral helical magnetic structure with switchable ferroelectric polarization below 4 K. Importantly, external electric fields can induce a single magnetic domain state and manipulate its magnetic chirality. The findings suggest that the search for new FR magnets with outstanding material properties should consider magnetic sulfates as promising candidates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Courses: This activity is designed specifically for public-speaking courses, but it could be used in the general introductory communication course. It also holds potential for use in persuasion, argumentation, or strategic communication courses. Objectives: This activity helps students understand audience as a more complicated concept--one that recognizes the power of a speaker in creating and challenging communities and interrogating power through their performative speeches in the courses named above.

Background/Aims: Outcome measures are key tool for assessing the effects of healthcare on health status, but little is currently known about their use by allied health professionals in the UK. This study aims to explore the use of outcome measures by allied health professionals, with a view to informing future research and developing clinical training resources. Methods: An online survey regarding use of outcome measure was developed, including 28 questions covering demographic and professional characteristics, frequency of use of outcome measures, perceptions of and barriers to use and confidence in use. The survey was distributed to UK allied health professionals by contacting relevant professional bodies and using social media. Comparisons between groups were made with the Mann-Whitney U test, Chi square or comparisons of column means. Significance was set at 0.05. Results: Responses from 107 allied health professionals were analysed, representing 13 of the 14 allied health professional groups across the UK. Most respondents (85%) used outcome measures, with 37% reporting frequency of use as 'always' and 33% as 'often'. Most respondents (75%) used informal approaches to interpret outcome measure data, while 17% used normative data and 15% used minimal clinically important difference values. The most commonly reported barriers were lack of time (70%), administrative support (47%), resources (41%) and training (35%). Levels of pre-registration and post-registration training in outcome measures were low (28% and 56% respectively). Postgraduate training in outcome measures was significantly associated with frequent use of outcome measures (P=0.010). Conclusions: Most UK allied health professionals use outcome measures regularly, but few use formal approaches to interpret the data collected. Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) resonators use is widespread, from electronic filters and oscillators to physical sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes. These devices' ubiquity, small size, and low power consumption make them ideal for use in systems such as CubeSats, micro aerial vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, and micro‐robots operating in radiation environments. Radiation's interaction with materials manifests as atomic displacement and ionization, resulting in mechanical and electronic property changes, photocurrents, and charge buildup. This study examines silicon (Si) ion irradiation's interaction with piezoelectrically transduced MEMS resonators. Furthermore, the effect of adding a dielectric silicon oxide (SiO2) thin film is unveiled. Aluminum nitride on silicon (AlN‐on‐Si) and AlN‐SiO2‐Si bulk acoustic wave (BAW) resonators are designed and fabricated. The devices are irradiated using 2 MeV Si+ ions at various fluxes up to a total fluence of 5 × 1014 cm−2. A time anneal is conducted to characterize device recovery. Scattering (S‐) parameters are measured in situ. Specific damage coefficients are derived to describe the radiation effect on resonant frequency (fr), quality factor (Q), motional resistance (Rm), and electromechanical coupling factor (keff2$k_{{\mathrm{eff}}}^2$). Furthermore, the damage coefficients for the bulk material properties of elastic modulus (E) and the piezoelectric coefficient (d31) are found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development needed in assessment practices and research on communication effectiveness will not be easy, but it is the value instructors and scholars in communication can provide, regardless of subdiscipline or research agenda. Expectations, though, are that instructors and administrators can provide assessment data that supports the value of the foundational course and deliver on the promise to equip students with communication skills that will be useful in their futures. By continually defining communication effectiveness for assessment in the foundational communication course, the discipline reclaims its purpose and recognizes the value of its scholars and instructors. Further, the prevailing insistence on calling the foundational course "basic" has had a harmful and negative impact on how foundational course scholars and instructors are perceived and valued. Electrochemical upcycling of nitrate into ammonia at ambient conditions offers a sustainable synthesis pathway that can complement the current industrial NH3 production from the Haber–Bosch process. One of the key rate‐limiting steps is the effective desorption of gaseous or interfacial bubble products, mainly NH3 with some minor side products of nitrogen and hydrogen, from the electrode surfaces to sustain available sites for the NO3− reduction reaction. To facilitate the gaseous product desorption from the catalytic sites, hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) nanoparticles are blended within a CuO catalyst layer, which is shown to eliminate the undesirable accumulation and blockage of electrode surfaces and largely decouples the electron‐ and phase‐transfer processes. The NH3 partial current density normalized by the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) increases by nearly a factor of 17.8 from 11.4 ± 0.1 to 203.3 ± 1.8 mA cm−2ECSA. The DFT and ab‐initio molecular dynamics simulations suggest that the hydrophobic PTFE nanoparticles may serve as segregated islands to enhance the spillover and transport the gaseous products from electrocatalysts to the PTFE. Thus, a higher ammonia transfer is achieved for the mixed PTFE/CuO electrocatalyst.
