Abstract

The EXFOR library has served as the unique repository of experimental cross section and other nuclear reaction data for 50 years. The Nuclear Reaction Data Centres (NRDC) have compiled data sets from more than 22000 experimental works for the EXFOR library. Our collaboration and effort on improvement of EXFOR coverage are described in this paper, as well as tools for digitization of numerical data from graph images developed by us for EXFOR compilation.

Abstract

We present a novel mesh‐based learning approach (N‐Cloth) for plausible 3D cloth deformation prediction. Our approach is general and can handle cloth or obstacles represented by triangle meshes with arbitrary topologies. We use graph convolution to transform the cloth and object meshes into a latent space to reduce the non‐linearity in the mesh space. Our network can predict the target 3D cloth mesh deformation based on the initial state of the cloth mesh template and the target obstacle mesh. Our approach can handle complex cloth meshes with up to 100K triangles and scenes with various objects corresponding to SMPL humans, non‐SMPL humans or rigid bodies. In practice, our approach can be used to generate plausible cloth simulation at 30 – 45 fps on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 GPU. Abstract

Electrospray ionization coupled to native mass spectrometry (MS) has evolved into an important tool in structural biology to decipher the composition of protein complexes. However, the mass analysis of heterogeneous protein assemblies is hampered because of their overlapping charge state distributions, fine structure, and peak broadening. To facilitate the mass analysis, it is of importance to automate preprocessing raw mass spectra, assigning ion series to peaks and deciphering the subunit compositions. So far, the automation of preprocessing raw mass spectra has not been accomplished; Massign was introduced to simplify data analysis and decipher the subunit compositions. In this study, we develop a search engine, AutoMass, to automatically assign ion series to peaks without any additional user input, for example, limited ranges of charge states or ion mass. AutoMass includes an ion intensity-dependent method to check for Gaussian distributions of ion series and an ion intensity-independent method to address highly overlapping and non-Gaussian distributions. The minimax theorem from game theory is adopted to define the boundaries. With AutoMass, the boundaries of ion series in the well-resolved tandem mass spectra of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) capsids and those of the mass spectrum from CRISPR-related cascade protein complex are accurately assigned. Theoretical and experimental HBV ion masses are shown in agreement up to ~0.03%. The analysis is finished within a minute on a regular workstation. Moreover, less well-resolved mass spectra, for example, complicated multimer mass spectra and norovirus capsid mass spectra at different levels of desolvation, are analyzed. In sum, this first-ever fully automatic program reveals the boundaries of overlapping ion peak series and can further aid developing high-throughput native MS and top-down proteomics.

Abstract

The design and modelling of 10-, 15-, and 20-storey wood buildings with cross-laminated timber and glulam structural members are presented in the present study. The system is platform-type construction with a cross-laminated timber core, perimeter walls as lateral load resisting system, and glulam columns as the gravity system. The designed buildings satisfy requirements stipulated in applicable design codes in Canada. The hysteretic models and the associated parameters used to model the fasteners for wood members are developed. Assessments of the nonlinear inelastic seismic responses and capacity curves of the designed buildings are carried out using the incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) and nonlinear static pushover analysis (NSPA) methods. The results indicate that the NSPA curve closely approximates the mean capacity curve estimated using the IDA curves for wood buildings. The post-yield stiffness ratio to initial stiffness for the wood buildings ranges from approximately 0.35 to 0.55. The results also show that the effect of the record-to-record variability on the IDA curves is substantial. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

An anaerobic kraft lignin (KL)-degrading bacterial strain was isolated from sludge of a pulp and paper mill. It was characterized as Acetoanaerobium sp. WJDL-Y2 by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The maximum KL degradation capability of strain Y2 was determined to be 24.9% on a COD basis under an optimal condition with temperature of 31.5°C, initial pH of 6.8 and KL to nitrogen (as NH4Cl) ratio of 6.5 by mass. Growth kinetic studies showed that the KL tolerance of strain Y2 was relatively high (Ki= 8120.45 mg l-1). Analysing KL degradation products by GC-MS revealed the formation of low-molecular-weight aromatic compounds (LMWACs), including benzenepropanoic acid, syringic acid and ferulic acid. This indicates that strain Y2 can oxidize lignin structure's p-hydroxyphenyl (H) units, guaiacyl (G) units and syringyl (S). In addition, the inoculated sample also contained low-molecular acid compounds, such as hexanoic acid, adipic acid and 2-hydroxybutyric acid, further validating strain Y2's ability to degrade KL.
