This is an article in the field of mineral processing engineering. Molybdenum has many good physical and chemical properties and is widely used in many fields. Molybdenum is mainly derived from molybdenite, but the resources of the easily beneficiated molybdenum ore have been gradually reduced after long-term development. Nowadays, talc-type and other refractory molybdenum ores have gradually become the focus of research. The separation of talc and molybdenite is a difficult point in the separation of talc-type molybdenum ores. The two has similar surface structures and natural floatability, and the separation is very difficult. This article summarizes the current research progress of talc-type molybdenum ore beneficiation technology and reagents, and proposes to strengthen the research and development of selective grinding of talc-type molybdenum ores and organic macromolecular reagents, and deepen the mechanism and effect of reagents and mineral surfaces. The study of the raw ore technological mineralogy is an important direction for sorting the talc-type molybdenum ore in the future.

【Objective】The key target genes related to late pregnancy, lactation and fecundity in muscle tissue of Holstein cattle were screened, with a view to providing a theoretical basis for further study of gene function.【Method】The dataset GSE62159 from the GEO database on gene expression and fecundity in the muscle of Holstein cattles during late pregnancy, early lactation, and mid lactation were selected. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) method was used for gene co- expression analysis, and the obtained modules were associated with late pregnancy, mid lactation and fecundity traits. The genes with connectivity in the top 30 of each module were selected as the Hub genes. The module was analyzed by protein-protein interaction (PPI) network with String website. The gene with the top 30 node connection degree value in PPI network was selected as the core gene, and intersected with Hub gene to obtain the key target genes related to different physiological periods and fecundity in the muscle.【Result】A total of 13 modules were obtained, of which the Green and Blue modules were related to late pregnancy and mid-lactation periods respectively, and the Magenta module was related to fecundity. The functional enrichment analysis of genes in each target module showed that the main functions of genes related to the late pregnancy were substance metabolism, energy metabolism, protein synthesis and secretion, body response to oxidative stress and neurodegeneration; the functions of genes related to mid-lactation included maintenance of stem cell population, protein synthesis and secretion, antigen processing and presentation and occurrence of many diseases; while those related to fecundity included angiogenesis, intrauterine embryonic development and actin filament binding, etc. Three key genes related to late pregnancy, one key gene related to mid-lactation and eight key genes related to fecundity were screened in the muscle of Holstein cattle.【Conclusion】The genes related to and late pregnancy in the muscle of Holstein cattle were identified as EIF5A, ACO2 and EEF1G, and the gene related to mid-lactation as EIF4A2, and the genes related to fecundity as ITGB1, MYH9, TLN1, CAV1, COL4A1, COL4A2, FLNA and HSPG2.

Methane emissions from ruminants significantly contribute to greenhouse gases. This study explores the methane mitigation effect and mechanism of S. mcclurei through in vitro rumen fermentation, aiming to establish its potential as a feed additive. We investigated the effects of freeze-dried and dried S. mcclurei at supplementation levels of 2%, 5%, and 10% of dry matter on nutrient degradation, ruminal fermentation, methane inhibition, and microbial community structure in in vitro rumen fermentation. The freeze-dried S. mcclurei at 2% supplementation significantly reduced CH4 emissions by 18.85% and enhanced crude protein degradability. However, total VFA and acetate concentrations were lower in both treatments compared to the control. The microbial shifts included a decrease in Lachnospiraceae_NK3A20_group and Ruminococcus and an increase in Selenomonas, Succinivibrio, and Saccharofermentans, promoting propionate production. Additionally, a significant reduction in Methanomicrobium was observed, indicating direct methane mitigation. Freeze-dried S. mcclurei at a 2% supplementation level shows potential as an effective methane mitigation strategy with minimal impact on rumen fermentation, supported by detailed insights into microbial community changes.

Reproduction in goats is a highly complex and dynamic process of life regulation, involving coordinated regulation from various aspects such as central nervous system regulation, reproductive system development, oocyte maturation, and fertilized egg development. In recent years, researchers have identified numerous genes associated with goat reproductive performance through high-throughput sequencing, single-cell sequencing, gene knockout, and other techniques. However, there is still an urgent need to explore marker genes related to goat reproductive performance. In this study, a single-cell RNA sequencing dataset of oocytes (GSE136005) was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) was utilized to identify modules highly correlated with goat litter size. Through gene function enrichment analysis, it was found that genes within the modules were mainly enriched in adhesive junctions, cell cycle, and other signaling pathways. Additionally, the top 30 hub genes with the highest connectivity in WGCNA were identified. Subsequently, using Protein–Protein Interaction (PPI) network analysis, the top 30 genes with the highest connectivity within the modules were identified. The intersection of hub genes, key genes in the PPI network, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) led to the identification of the RPL4 gene as a key marker gene associated with reproductive capacity in goat oocytes. Overall, our study reveals that the RPL4 gene in oocytes holds promise as a biological marker for assessing goat litter size, deepening our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying goat reproductive performance.

In industrial manufacturing, pyrrhotite(Fe1−xS), once depressed, is commonly activated for flotation. However, the replacement of CuSO4 is necessary due to the need for exact control over the dosage during the activation of pyrrhotite, which can pose challenges in industrial settings. This research introduces the use of FeSO4 for the first time to efficiently activate pyrrhotite. The impact of two different activators on pyrrhotite was examined through microflotation experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Microflotation experiments confirmed that as the CuSO4 dosage increased from 0 to 8 × 10−4 mol/L, the recovery of pyrrhotite initially increased slightly from 71.27% to 87.65% but then sharply decreased to 16.47%. Conversely, when the FeSO4 dosage was increased from 0 to 8 × 10−4 mol/L, pyrrhotite’s recovery rose from 71.27% to 82.37%. These results indicate a higher sensitivity of CuSO4 to dosage variations, suggesting that minor alterations in dosage can significantly impact its efficacy under certain experimental conditions. In contrast, FeSO4 might demonstrate reduced sensitivity to changes in dosage, leading to more consistent performance. Fe ions can chemically adsorb onto the surface of pyrrhotite (001), creating a stable chemical bond, thereby markedly activating pyrrhotite. The addition of butyl xanthate (BX), coupled with the action of Fe2+ on activated pyrrhotite, results in the formation of four Fe-S bonds on Fe2+. The proximity of their atomic distances contributes to the development of a stable double-chelate structure. The S 3p orbital on BX hybridizes with the Fe 3d orbital on pyrrhotite, but the hybrid effect of Fe2+ activation is stronger than that of nonactivation. In addition, the Fe-S bond formed by the addition of activated Fe2+ has a higher Mulliken population, more charge overlap, and stronger covalent bonds. Therefore, Fe2+ is an excellent, efficient, and stable pyrrhotite activator.

The ferrite process can not only purify wastewater containing heavy metal ions but also recycle valuable metals from wastewater. Therefore, it is considered a promising technology to treat chromium-containing wastewater. However, the process has not been extensively applied in industry due to its high synthesis temperature. In this paper, the feasibility of chromite synthesis at room temperature was comprehensively studied. The effects of critical factors on the effluent quality and the crystallization behavior and stability of the synthetic products were investigated. Results showed that the removal ratio of chromium from wastewater was over 99.0%, and the chromium concentration in the supernatant reached the sewage discharge standard after undergoing the ferrite process at room temperature. Increases in the aeration rate, stirring rate, and reaction time were favorable for the formation of stable chromite. The particles obtained by the ferrite process at room temperature were characterized by a compact structure, and the maximum size of the particles reached 52 μm. Chromium gradually entered the spinel crystal structure during the synthesis process, and the molecular formula of the synthetic chromite might be Fe3−xCrxO4, in which x was approximately 0.30. The path of the microscopic reaction was proposed to illuminate the synthesis mechanism of chromite under room temperature conditions. The present study has laid the foundation for the industrial application of the ferrite process in the purification and utilization of chromium-containing wastewater.

In this study, the effects of mixed silage on the fermentation quality, chemical composition and bacterial communities of corn straw and soybean straw were assessed. Corn straws, soybean straws or a mixture of corn straws and soybean straws in a 1:1 mass ratio were uniformly mixed and processed using the same method to produce bagged silage weighing 50 kg per bag. At days 0, 14 and 60 of the fermentation process, the nutritional composition and fermentation quality indicators of each group were measured. A complete factorial design to assess the effect of the ensiling time, types of fermented straw (treatment group) and their interactions on the assessed parameters was performed. In addition, metabolomics sequencing and microbial community analysis were performed on the samples on the 60th day of fermentation. Compared with the corn straw group and the soybean straw group, the silage fermentation quality of the corn straw–soybean straw group is better, which is reflected in higher crude protein rate (p < 0.05), higher lactic acid content (p < 0.05) and lower ammonia nitrogen content (p < 0.05). The combined analysis of differential microbial taxa (species level) and differential metabolites revealed a positive correlation between certain bacterial species, such as manihotivorans, brevis and zeae, and significantly downregulated metabolites, such as pyrocatechol and N-benzoyltyramine. Similarly, positive correlations were observed between certain bacterial species, such as dublinensis, marcescens and agglomerans, and upregulated metabolites, such as D-xylonic acid and neochlorogenic acid. These findings suggest that the key microbial–metabolite pathways identified are responsible for the good fermentation quality observed during mixed fermentation of corn straw and soybean straw at a 1:1 mass ratio.

Milk is considered a perfect natural food for humans and animals. However, aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contaminating the feeds fed to lactating dairy cows can introduce aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), the main toxic metabolite of aflatoxins into the milk, consequently posing a risk to human health. As a result of AFM1 monitoring in raw milk worldwide, it is evident that high AFM1 concentrations exist in raw milk in many countries. Thus, the incidence of AFM1 in milk from dairy cows should not be underestimated. To further optimize the intervention strategies, it is necessary to better understand the metabolism of AFB1 and its biotransformation into AFM1 and the specific secretion pathways in lactating dairy cows. The metabolism of AFB1 and its biotransformation into AFM1 in lactating dairy cows are drawn in this review. Furthermore, recent data provide evidence that in the mammary tissue of lactating dairy cows, aflatoxins significantly increase the activity of a protein, ATP-binding cassette super-family G member 2 (ABCG2), an efflux transporter known to facilitate the excretion of various xenobiotics and veterinary drugs into milk. Further research should focus on identifying and understanding the factors that affect the expression of ABCG2 in the mammary gland of cows.

The incidence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) contamination in raw milk and its association with herd types was investigated in the ten provinces of Southern China in 2018. A total of 797 raw milk samples were collected from Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Hunan, Hubei, Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, and Anhui provinces. The herd types were classified according to their characteristics. Among the 797 samples, 401 were owned by large-scale farms (herd size >500 cows, for dairy cow farming), 303 were owned by milk processing plants (herd size >500 cows, for dairy cow farming + milk processing), and 93 were owned by small farm cooperatives (herd size ≤500 cows, for dairy cow farming). The results revealed the presence of AFM1 in 94 of the 797 samples (11.80%). None of them was above 500 ng/L (Chinese and US limit standard), whereas 0.88% were above 50 ng/L (EU limit standard). The AFM1 concentrations in samples non-compliant with the EU standard were 52, 61, 88, 89.5, 164, 240, and 486 ng/L, respectively. It is important to note that samples exceeding the EU limit were mainly found in the area of Jiangsu and Guangxi provinces, and the herd type of milk processing plants. Hence, it is necessary to monitor and enforce the regulatory compliance of AFM1 levels in the raw milk from these specific areas and herd type.Highlights A total of 797 raw milk samples from three herd types, were collected from ten provinces of Southern China in 2018. Ninety-four of the 797 raw milk samples (11.80%) were positive for AFM1, and none of them was above the Chinese and US legal limit, only 0.88% of samples were above the EU limit. All of the exceed samples defined by EU limit were found in the area of Jiangsu and Guangxi provinces and belonged to milk processing plants.

Abstract Chinese indigenous pigs exhibit considerable phenotypic diversity, but their population structure and the genetic basis of agriculturally important traits need further exploration. Here, we sequenced the whole genomes of 24 individual pigs representing 22 breeds distributed throughout China. For comparison with European and commercial breeds (one pig per breed), we included seven published pig genomes with our new genomes for analyses. Our results showed that breeds grouped together based on morphological classifications are not necessarily more genetically similar to each other than to breeds from other groups. We found that genetic material from European pigs likely introgressed into five Chinese breeds. We have identified two new subpopulations of domestic pigs that encompass morphology-based criteria in China. The Southern Chinese subpopulation comprises the classical South Chinese Type and part of the Central China Type. In contrast, the Northern Chinese subpopulation comprises the North China Type, the Lower Yangtze River Basin Type, the Southwest Type, the Plateau Type, and the remainder of the Central China Type. Eight haplotypes and two recombination sites were identified within a conserved 40.09 Mb linkage-disequilibrium (LD) block on the X chromosome. Potential candidate genes (LEPR, FANCC, COL1A1, and PCCA) influencing body size were identified. Our findings provide insights into the phylogeny of Chinese indigenous pig breeds and benefit gene mining efforts to improve major economic traits.

Aquilaria (A.) sinensis is a medicinal plant widely grown in tropical South China. Given the abundant pruning waste of its leaves, the use of A. sinensis leaves is valuable. In this study, goats were fed a diet containing 20% A. sinensis leaves. Compared with the basal diet, feeding A. sinensis leaves to goats did not affect growth performance but considerably reduced the feeding cost. Strikingly, feeding A. sinensis leaves resulted in a significant decrease in the blood cholesterol levels (2.11 vs. 1.49 mmol/L, p = 0.01) along with a significant increase in the high-density lipoprotein levels (1.42 vs. 1.82 mmol/L, p = 0.01). There was also a tendency to lower the content of low-density lipoprotein levels in goats (0.78 vs. 0.45 mmol/L, p = 0.09). Furthermore, metabolomics analysis demonstrated that the reduction in cholesterol levels occurred in both the serum (0.387-fold change) and muscle (0.382-fold change) of goats during A. sinensis leaf feeding. The metabolic responses to feeding A. sinensis leaves suggest that the activation of lipolysis metabolism might happen in goats. These observed changes would be conducive to improving animal health and meat quality, ultimately benefiting human health.

Intestinal epithelial cells are critical for nutrient absorption and defending against pathogen infection. Deoxynivalenol (Don), the most common mycotoxin, contaminates cereals and food throughout the world, causes serious damage to mammal intestinal mucosa, and appears as intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis and proliferation inhibition. Our previous study has found that milk-derived exosome ameliorates Don-induced intestinal damage, but the mechanism is still not fully understood. In this study, we demonstrated that Don downregulated the expression of miR-221/222 in intestinal epithelial cells, and exosome treatment reversed the inhibitory effect of Don on miR-221/222. Through immunofluorescence and flow cytometry analysis, we identified that miR-221/222 ameliorates Don-induced apoptosis and proliferation inhibition in intestinal epithelial cells. Through bioinformatics analyses and RNA immunoprecipitation analysis, we identified Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) is the target of miR-221/222. Through the PTEN interfering experiment, we found Don-induced apoptosis and proliferation inhibition relied on PTEN. Finally, through adenovirus to overexpress miR-221/222 in mice intestinal epithelial cells specifically, our results showed that miR-221/222 ameliorated Don-induced apoptosis and proliferation inhibition in intestinal epithelial cells by targeting PTEN. This study not only expands our understanding of how miR-221/222 and the host gene PTEN regulate intestinal epithelial cells defending against Don-induced damage, but also provides a new way to protect the development of the intestine.

Terpenic oil (TO) is commonly used as a flotation frother for the selective separation of sulfide minerals. As a frother, most reports have mainly focused on its effect on froth stability and froth entrainment, whereas its influence on the floatability of sulfide minerals has received little attention. In this work, the influence of TO on the flotation behavior of sphalerite was investigated by using microflotation tests, contact angle and zeta potential measurements, and FT-IR and SEM-EDS analyses. Microflotation tests conducted in a modified Hallimond tube indicated that compared with the collector potassium butyl xanthate (KBX), the flotation recovery of sphalerite was significantly increased when TO was added to the pulp, but the recovery of Cu-activated sphalerite with the addition of TO was lower than that with the addition of KBX. Contact angle measurements demonstrated that the contact angle of sphalerite was distinctly increased by the addition of TO, but the contact angle of sphalerite treated with TO was lower than that treated with KBX after Cu activation. Zeta potential measurements demonstrated that the zeta potential of sphalerite particles was slightly decreased when treated with TO, and the isoelectric point (IEP) was decreased from 3.3 to 3.1 due to the interaction of TO with sphalerite particles. FT-IR and SEM-EDS confirmed that TO could be adsorbed on the sphalerite surface on the formation of the oil film due to its low solubility, thereby increasing the surface hydrophobicity of the sphalerite. In addition, the TO absorbed on the surface acts as a bridging role and promotes the hydrophobic agglomeration of sphalerite particles. These results suggest that except for froth entrainment, the influence of TO on the flotation behavior of sphalerite may be another reason for the misreporting of sphalerite in concentrates.

The activation of sphalerite particles by ammoniacal copper solution (ACS) was investigated in this study. This microflotation study was conducted on a single sphalerite mineral with the particles size of 38 μm to 75 μm. Results showed that ACS has somewhat better activation effect than copper sulphate (a traditional activator) with sodium isobutyl xanthate as the collector. Agglomeration observation, contact angle measurement, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement results of sphalerite particles verified the superiority of this new activator. Therefore, the substitution of copper sulphate with ACS would increase the separation efficiency not only in marmatite flotation but also in sphalerite flotation.

The adsorption of Cu species onto pyrite surface and its effect on flotation were investigated by using microflotation tests, first-principle calculations, and XPS surface analysis. The results indicated that the flotation of pyrite appears to be activated with CuSO4 only at alkaline pH, while being depressed at acidic and neutral pH. The adsorption of copper ions on pyrite surface was pH-dependent, and the adsorption magnitude of copper ions at alkaline pH is higher than that at acidic and neutral pH due to a strong interaction between O atom in Cu(OH)2 and surface Fe atom except for the interaction between Cu atom and surface S atom. At acidic and neutral pH, there is only an interaction between Cu atom and surface S atom. The adsorption was relatively weak, and more copper ions in solution precipitated the collector and depressed the flotation of pyrite. XPS analysis confirmed that more copper ionic species (Cu(I) and Cu(II)) are adsorbed on the pyrite surface at alkaline pH than that at acidic and neutral pH.

Abstract Chinese indigenous pig breeds are recognized as an invaluable component of the world's pig genetic resources and are divided traditionally into six types. Twenty-six microsatellite markers recommended by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and ISAG (International Society of Animal Genetics) were employed to analyze the genetic diversity of 18 Chinese indigenous pig breeds with 1001 individuals representing five types, and three commercial breeds with 184 individuals. The observed heterozygosity, unbiased expected heterozygosity and the observed and effective number of alleles were used to estimate the genetic variation of each indigenous breed. The unbiased expected heterozygosity ranged between 0.700 (Mashen) and 0.876 (Guanling), which implies that there is an abundant genetic variation stored in Chinese indigenous pig breeds. Breed differentiation was shown by fixation indices (FIT, FIS, and FST). The FST per locus varied from 0.019 (S0090) to 0.170 (SW951), and the average FST of all loci was 0.077, which means that most of the genetic variation was kept within breeds and only a little of the genetic variation exists between populations. The Neighbor-Joining tree was constructed based on the Nei DA (1978) distances and one large cluster with all local breeds but the Mashen breed, was obtained. Four smaller sub-clusters were also found, which included two to four breeds each. These results, however, did not completely agree with the traditional type of classification. A Neighbor-Joining dendrogram of individuals was established from the distance of – ln(proportions of shared alleles); 92.14% of the individuals were clustered with their own breeds, which implies that this method is useful for breed demarcation. This extensive research on pig genetic diversity in China indicates that these 18 Chinese indigenous breeds may have one common ancestor, helps us to better understand the relative distinctiveness of pig genetic resources, and will assist in developing a national plan for the conservation and utilization of Chinese indigenous pig breeds.

Abstract Twelve Chinese indigenous goat populations were genotyped for twenty-six microsatellite markers recommended by the EU Sheep and Goat Biodiversity Project. A total of 452 goats were tested. Seventeen of the 26 microsatellite markers used in this analysis had four or more alleles. The mean expected heterozygosity and the mean observed heterozygosity for the population varied from 0.611 to 0.784 and 0.602 to 0.783 respectively. The mean FST (0.105) demonstrated that about 89.5% of the total genetic variation was due to the genetic differentiation within each population. A phylogenetic tree based on the Nei (1978) standard genetic distance displayed a remarkable degree of consistency with their different geographical origins and their presumed migration throughout China. The correspondence analysis did not only distinguish population groups, but also confirmed the above results, classifying the important populations contributing to diversity. Additionally, some specific alleles were shown to be important in the construction of the population structure. The study analyzed the recent origins of these populations and contributed to the knowledge and genetic characterization of Chinese indigenous goat populations. In addition, the seventeen microsatellites recommended by the EU Sheep and Goat Biodiversity Project proved to be useful for the biodiversity studies in goat breeds.

Soft and hard contact deformation is most common issue of the refrigerator gasket and it has almost been ignored in previous studies. In this paper, the novelty is to propose a thermal-solid coupling simulation to study the effect of assembly states on the heat transfer of gaskets, improving the accuracy of heat transfer simulation analysis. The numerical results indicate that the calculated temperature based on physical model of assembly state is closer to measured temperature. The assembly distance affects the assembly state of the gasket by changing the contact positions and lengths of contact interfaces. As a result, the heat transfer path and condition at the gasket region also changes. As the deformation increases form −1.0 mm to 5.0 mm, the heat leakage load of gasket rises firstly and then falls, in the range of 1.61 ~ 3.33 W•m−1. The heat leakage at the transfer paths of internal cold air, outer shell and cold bridge accounts for over 20%. Thus, it is recommended to reduce the contact interface length of internal cold air, increase the thermal resistance of auxiliary air-bag, reduce the thermal conductivity and thickness of magnetic strip and increase the contact thermal resistance of cold bridge. Hmong people in the United States of America have started to emerge on the national scene thanks to the recent rise of Hmong politicians winning State representative, senate, and assembly seats. The Hmong-American experience in the United States is a rollercoaster experience. While we have made America our home for the past 45 years, our presence is still largely unknown to the majority of the American people. The struggle of every Hmong person living in a relatively unknown land, unknown culture, and unknown people is very real, it represents that of the whole community struggles to survive. This article focuses on my graduate school experience through the so called multicultural education system. I provide a brief history of the Hmong people, why we are here in the United States, Hmong people's overall educational experience, and my personal experience in maneuvering through the bureaucratic institution of graduate school. My story represents the larger story of the Hmong people experience in the United States. Portions of this story have appeared as a chapter in the book, "Voices of Asian American in higher education: The unheard stories" (Obiakor & Hui-Michael, 2018).

The extraction of light rare earths (Pr and Nd) from chloride medium was investigated using a mixture of di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P204) and bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinic acid (Cyanex272) in sulfonated kerosene. The P204+Cyanex272 system exerted a synergistic effect on the separation of light rare earths, and the separation coefficient was higher than when P204 and Cyanex272 were used as extractants alone. The separation coefficient of Pr and Nd in the extraction system reached 1.75 when the pH of the aqueous phase material solution was approximately 2.5, and 1.5 mol/L hydrochloric acid as a stripping agent effectively eluted the rare earth ions in the loaded organic phase. Combining the slope method, infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, we explored the mechanism of the extracted Nd and Pr into the organic phase complex, and finally entered the organic phase with Re(HA2)2B. The P-O-H bond and P=O bond in the extractant P204 and Cyanex272 formed a coordination bond with Re3+. Therefore, this extraction method also provides a reference for a more environmentally friendly and efficient procedure for separation and purification of light rare earth elements Pr and Nd. Diosgenin, a steroidal sapogenin, obtained from Trigonella foenum-graecum, Dioscorea, and Rhizoma polgonati, has shown high potential and interest in the treatment of various cancers such as oral squamous cell carcinoma, laryngeal cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, glioma, and leukemia. This article aims to provide an overview of the in vivo, in vitro, and clinical studies reporting the diosgenin's anticancer effects. Preclinical studies have shown promising effects of diosgenin on inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and growth, promoting apoptosis, inducing differentiation and autophagy, inhibiting tumor cell metastasis and invasion, blocking cell cycle, regulating immunity and improving gut microbiome. Clinical investigations have revealed clinical dosage and safety property of diosgenin. Furthermore, in order to improve the biological activity and bioavailability of diosgenin, this review focuses on the development of diosgenin nano drug carriers, combined drugs and the diosgenin derivatives. Microchannel heat exchangers (MCHX) are increasingly being used in refrigeration and heat pumps due to their superior thermal-hydraulic properties. However, when the MCHX surface temperature drops below the freezing point, frost will accumulate on the fin surface, which significantly affects the heat transfer performance. In this study, a modified MCHX with extended windward fins was developed to improve the frosting performance. The thermal-hydraulic performance of the modified MCHX and conventional MCHX were compared and evaluated under frosting conditions. Results show that the extended fins on the windward side capture a large amount of frost and delay the rapid blockage of air flow passage by frost. The modified MCHX structure makes the frost more evenly distributed. During the 60 min frosting cycle, the total heat transfer capacity and the mass of the accumulated frost of the modified MCHX are 9.6–49.7% and 10.3–46.9% higher than the conventional MCHX, respectively. Furthermore, the modified MCHX has greater potential to improve the thermal-hydraulic performance under the condition of more uneven frost layer distribution. In this work, two thiol-type reagents, thioglycolic acid (TGA) and mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), were firstly exploited and compared as aegirite depressants with sodium oleate (NaOl) as the collector to separate specularite from aegirite by flotation. The adsorption performances and mechanisms of TGA and MPA on aegirite surface were investigated via flotation experiments, Zeta potential tests, adsorption measurements, contact angle dimensions, and surface characterizations. The results of flotation indicated that TGA and MPA exhibited a considerable depression impact on the flotation of aegirite but little effect on specularite. TGA depicted more excellent depression performance than MPA, which was confirmed by HLB calculation. The results demonstrated that TGA and MPA favorably adsorbed on aegirite surface instead of specularite, hindering the subsequent adsorption of NaOl on specularite and resulting in the surface being hydrophilic. XPS results revealed that TGA and MPA were significantly adsorbed on the surface of aegirite through an interaction between the carboxyl and thiol groups of the depressants and the Si and Fe on the surface of aegirite. As a typical iron-bearing silicate gangue, aegirite often associates with specularite. Due to the iron element contained in aegirite, it has similar surface properties to specularite. Flotation is by far one of the most efficient methods of processing this kind of iron ore. But the traditional depressants unable to take action in the separation of specularite and aegirite. Chitosan was used as a novel depressant to attempt to separate specularite from aegirite through microflotation tests, adsorption tests, contact angle measurements, Zeta potential measurements, and XPS analysis. The flotation results indicate that chitosan show more strong depression effect on specularite than aegirite. Zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements and adsorption tests demonstrate that chitosan is more inclined to adsorb on the specularite surface than aegirite, which hinders the subsequent adsorption of collector sodium oleate and increases difference in hydrophobicity between the two minerals. The XPS results of specularite validate the adsorption of chitosan on specularite, and illustrate that electrons of chitosan were partially transferred to oxygen and iron atoms in specularite during the adsorption process. This study used Q methodology to uncover the rich and divergent perspectives on food, culture and health and nutrition education among Hmong mothers with middle-school children. Forty participants were asked to rank forty statements using a seven-point scale and interviewed immediately after completing the ranking task. Mothers were grouped into three divergent themes based on the Q-factor analysis: traditional food culture preservers (n = 20), financially struggling health-conscious mothers (n = 11), and mothers concerned about a parent-child generational gap (n = 4).While participants shared several similar views regarding food and health issues, including the importance of rice in their lives, they demonstrated divergent perspectives on how acculturation, intergenerational value discrepancies in traditional food culture, and limited financial income contribute to obesity among Hmong, especially children. Our study also suggests that parental engagement in their children's education provides health benefits for Hmong children. This paper proposes a promising chelating collector, phenyl propyl hydroxamic acid (BPHA), to directly float malachite for the separation of malachite against quartz. The flotation performance and mechanism was investigated via microflotation tests, as well as through contact angle, Scanning Electron Microscopeand Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (SEM-EDS), zeta potential, adsorption capacity, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The results of microflotation tests showed that BPHA has a strong ability to collect malachite and a significant selectivity against quartz. The contact angle tests showed that BPHA effectively adsorbed onto the mineral surface and could improve the hydrophobicity of the malachite surface. SEM-EDS and adsorption capacity analyses further indicated that BPHA adsorbed onto the surface of malachite. The FR-IR results suggested that BPHA could react with Cu2+ ions and facilitate strong chemical adsorption onto the surface of malachite. Furthermore, zeta potential and XPS analyses provided clear evidence that BPHA exhibited a stronger affinity for malachite and a weaker interaction with quartz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
