Introduction:Incisional hernias after abdominal surgical procedures cause morbidity, significant loss of labor and affect quality of life. In this study, we investigated whether component separation (CS) technique is a safe method in patients with incisional hernia. We evaluated the results of this technique in terms of wound infection and recurrence.Methods:Thirty incisional hernia cases operated with CS technique between February 2012 and February 2014 were included in the study. Demographic data, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, defect size, wound complications and recurrences after one-year follow-up were evaluated.Results:Seventeen patients were female and 13 were male. The mean age of the patients was 54.8 years (range: 29-76). The mean BMI of the patients was 26.8 kg/m2 (range: 20.5-32.9). The mean hernia transverse diameter was 9.6 cm (range: 6.5-23). Mortality was not observed in any of the patients. Wound problems were observed in six of 30 patients in CS repair, and recurrence was observed in three of these patients. Recurrence was observed in only one of the remaining 24 patients without a wound problem. Recurrence was found to be statistically related to wound problem. There was also a significant relationship between BMI, hernia transverse diameter, ASA score and recurrence.Conclusion:In selected cases, CS technique is a safe technique for incisional hernia repair. It can be performed by paying attention to wound problems.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı akut mezenterik sikeminin (AMİ) erken tanısında ortalama trombosit hacminin (MPV) ve iskemi modifiye albümin (IMA) dğzeylerinin rolünü belirlemekti.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada, 18 Wistar Albino cinsi sıçan, her grupta 6 sıçan olacak şekilde 3 deney grubuna rasgele olarak ayrıldı; laparotomisiz şam grubu, laparotomi yapılan control grubu ve mezenterik iskemi grubu. Trombosit sayısı, MPV ve IMA, AMI grubunda 120. dk.lık superior mezenterik arter tıkanıklığının sonunda ve aynı zamanda diğer gruplarda çalışıldı.Bulgular: AMI grubunda MPV ve IMA değerleri diğer 2 gruba göre anlamlı derecede yüksekti; trombosit sayısı anlamlı olarak düşüktü. Kontrol ve şam grupları arasında bu parametreler açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark yoktu.Sonuç: AMI hızlı tanı konulmazsa oldukça mortal olabilen bir hastalıktır. Bu nedenle erken tanıda bu parametrelerin rolünü tanımlamak için daha fazla klinik çalışma gereklidir.

Introduction: Anemia is known to be an important problem in burn injury. We aimed to investigate the protective effect of Solanum tuberosum (potatoes), against abnormal breakdown of erythrocytes in burn injury. Methods: Ninety-six male (9 to 10 weeks old) Swiss Albino mice (34–40 g) were included into the study, which consisted of two phases: dose optimization phase (n = 48) and study phase (n = 48). Half of the mice were given S. tuberosum juice (study group) and the other half drinking water (control group). The optimal dosage causing minimum decline in hematocrit was as follows: 1.6 mL/kg at 0 h, 0.8 mL/kg at 24 hours, and 0.8 mL/kg at 36 hours of burn injury. The burn injury was induced with a solid 10-mm aluminum bar heated in boiling water. Results: The decrease in hematocrit level was significantly lower in the study group than the control group at 24 and 48 hours (P = 0.05 and P = 0.023, respectively). The increase in anisocytosis, a hemolytic anemia sign, was also significantly lower in the study group than the control group at 48 hours (P = 0.021). There was no significant difference between groups in terms of clotting time or the bleeding time. Conclusion: In burn injury, S. tuberosum may be beneficial against anemia and it may reduce the need for red blood cell transfusion.

The predisposing factors for the development of sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease (SPD) still remain undetermined. Here, we investigate the sacrococcygeal angle as a possible predisposing factor for the development of disease. Consecutive male patients admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of SPD were included. Sex, age and BMI matched healthy controls without SPD were enrolled to the study. The predefined sacrococcygeal angles of patients and controls were measured on lateral pelvic radiographs by a single experienced radiologist. Thirty patients were included in each group. Sacrococcygeal angles of patients and control group were measured as 37.3 ± 14.5 and 36.81 ± 10.23 in patients and controls, respectively. The difference with respect to sacrococcygeal angle was not statistically significant between two groups. Sacrococcygeal angle which is the main skeletal determinant of intergluteal sulcus is not a predisposing factor for the development of sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease.

Carcinosarcoma of the breast represents less than 1% of primary breast mailgnancies. Both malign epithelial and malign mesenchymal elements exist together in the breast. A 59 year old postmenopausal women presents with a bloody nipple discharge and mass in breast. In left breast 2x1 cm mss detected and excisied. At pathological examination breast carcinosarcoma was detec-ted. Then modified radical mastectomy was performed. Tumor measured 4x4x3.5 cm. Tumor cells were negative for estrogen, progesteron. C-erb-B2 was negative. There was no metastasis in axillary lymph node metastasis. Carcinosarcoma of breast is rare tumor. It mass be consider in diagnosis of patients with large breast mass.
