Immune-related liver injury (liver-irAE) is a clinical problem with a potentially poor prognosis.We retrospectively collected clinical data from patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors between September 2014 and December 2021 at the Nagoya University Hospital. Using an unsupervised machine learning method, the Gaussian mixture model, to divide the cohort into clusters based on inflammatory markers, we investigated the cumulative incidence of liver-irAEs in these clusters.This study included a total of 702 patients. Among them, 492 (70.1%) patients were male, and the mean age was 66.6 years. During the mean follow-up period of 423 days, severe liver-irAEs (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events grade ≥ 3) occurred in 43 patients. Patients were divided into five clusters (a, b, c, d, and e). The cumulative incidence of liver-irAE was higher in cluster c than in cluster a (hazard ratio [HR]: 13.59, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.70-108.76, P = 0.014), and overall survival was worse in clusters c and d than in cluster a (HR: 2.83, 95% CI: 1.77-4.50, P 0.001; HR: 2.87, 95% CI: 1.47-5.60, P = 0.002, respectively). Clusters c and d were characterized by high temperature, C-reactive protein, platelets, and low albumin. However, there were differences in the prevalence of neutrophil count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and liver metastases between both clusters.The combined assessment of multiple markers and body temperature may help stratify high-risk groups for developing liver-irAE.

Crystallographic order-disorder phenomena in solid state compounds are of fundamental interest due to intimate relationship between the structure and properties. Here, by using high-pressure and high-temperature synthesis, we obtained vanadium perovskite oxyhydrides Sr1-xNaxVO3-yHy (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) with an anion-disordered structure, which is different from anion-ordered SrVO2H synthesized by topochemical reduction. High-pressure and high-temperature synthesis from nominal composition SrVO2H yielded the anion-disordered perovskite SrVO3-yHy (y ∼ 0.4) with a significant amount of byproducts, while Na substitution resulted in the almost pure anion-disordered perovskite Sr1-xNaxVO3-yHy with an increased amount of hydride anion (y ∼ 0.7 for x = 0.2). The obtained disordered phases for x = 0.1 and 0.2 are paramagnetic with almost temperature-independent electronic conductivity, whereas anion-ordered SrVO2H is an antiferromagnetic insulator. Although we obtained the anion-disordered perovskite under high pressure, a first-principles calculation revealed that the application of pressure stabilizes the ordered phase due to a reduced volume in the ordered structure, suggesting that a further increase of the pressure or reduction of the reaction temperature leads to the anion ordering. This study shows that anion ordering in oxyhydrides can be controlled by changing synthetic pressure and temperature.

Background: The trend of the diffusion of heated tobacco products (HTPs) is a great concern because HTPs have become available worldwide. This study examined the sociodemographic characteristics of HTPs users in Japan, where HTPs were first launched. Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from an online survey conducted in 2017. A total of 4,926 participants, aged 20–69 years, were included. The dependent variable was the type of tobacco products used. The independent variables were age and equivalent income. Two analyses estimated the odds ratios (ORs) for 1) being smokers compared to “non-smokers,” and 2) being “HTP smokers” compared to “only combustible cigarette smokers.” Analyses were stratified by sex. Educational attainment and occupation were also used in the sensitivity analyses. Results: The percentages of “non-smokers,” “only combustible cigarette smokers,” and “HTP smokers” were 82.8%, 14.2%, and 3.0%, respectively. When compared to the oldest participants (aged 60–69), the youngest participants (aged 20–29) tended to be “HTP smokers” (OR 7.90; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.09–20.22 for men and OR 9.28; 95% CI, 2.14–40.28 for women). The layered perovskite (MA)2PbI2(SCN)2 (MA = CH3NH3+) is a member of an emerging series of compounds derived from hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites. Here, we successfully synthesized (MA)2PbI2-xBrx(SCN)2 (0 ≤ x < 1.6) by using a solid-state reaction. Despite smaller bromide substitution for iodine, 1% linear expansion along the a axis was observed at x ∼ 0.4 due to a change of the orientation of the SCN- anions. Diffuse reflectance spectra reveal that the optical band gap increases by the bromide substitution, which is supported by the DFT calculations. Curiously, bromine-rich compounds where x ≥ 0.8 are light sensitive, leading to partial decomposition after ∼24 h. This study demonstrates that the layered perovskite (MA)2PbI2(SCN)2 tolerates a wide range of bromide substitution toward tuning the band gap energy.

Metal node design is crucial for obtaining structurally diverse coordination polymers (CPs) and metal?organic frameworks with desirable properties; however, FeII ions are exclusively six-coordinated. Herein, we present a cyanide-bridged three-dimensional (3D) CP, FePd(CN)4, bearing four-coordinate FeII ions, which is synthesized by thermal treatment of a two-dimensional (2D) six-coordinate FeII CP, Fe(H2O)2Pd(CN)4?4?H2O, to remove water molecules. Atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy and powder X-ray and neutron diffraction measurements revealed that the FePd(CN)4 structure is composed of a two-fold interpenetrated PtS topology network, where the FeII center demonstrates an intermediate geometry between tetrahedral and square-planar coordination. This four-coordinate FeII center with the distorted geometry can act as a thermo-responsive flexible node in the PtS network.

Background: Proteinuria is a common adverse event in systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, whether the presence of pretreatment proteinuria affects the clinical course is still unclear. Method: From 2011 to 2022, 321 patients with unresectable HCC who were treated with systemic therapy as first-line treatment were enrolled in this study. We retrospectively analyzed the presence of pretreatment proteinuria and the treatment course of systemic therapy. Results: In the cohort, 190 patients were tested for proteinuria qualitatively within 3 months before systemic therapy; 75 were treated with sorafenib, 72 were treated with lenvatinib, and 43 were treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab. Overall survival tended to be longer for patients treated with lenvatinib and significantly longer with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab in patients without pretreatment proteinuria but not for those treated with sorafenib. Further analysis was performed in 111 patients treated with lenvatinib or atezolizumab plus bevacizumab who had proteinuria measured quantitatively. Multivariate analysis including proteinuria, liver function, and HCC stage revealed that the severity of proteinuria was an independent predictor of prognosis. Conclusion: Pretreatment proteinuria predicts a poorer prognosis in patients with unresectable HCC treated with lenvatinib or atezolizumab plus bevacizumab but not in those treated with sorafenib.

Changes in body composition parameters are important prognostic factors in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. This study aimed to assess the clinical impact of early changes in body composition during lenvatinib (LEN) treatment on its time to treatment failure (TTF) for patients with advanced HCC.In this retrospective study, we enrolled 65 patients who were administered LEN as the first-line treatment for unresectable HCC and evaluated the body composition change using computed tomography. We focused on the body composition change after 2 weeks of LEN treatment and assessed its impact on TTF and prognosis.Significant changes in body composition were observed during 14 weeks of LEN treatment. Among these changes, mean-skeletal muscle attenuation (SMA) decreased significantly within 2 weeks (This study revealed that LEN treatment induces a change in the skeletal muscle asymptomatically for a short period, and evaluation of this change may help to predict the TTF of LEN treatment in patients with HCC.Supplemental data for this article is available online at https://doi.org/10.1080/01635581.2022.2049322 .

Background Although the majority of survivors of the huge Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami evacuated to two types of temporary housings, prefabricated housing and rented housing, health effects of these different environments were unclear. We examined whether prevalent social participation in prefabricated housing brought larger health benefits than in rented housing using the largest health survey data of the disaster survivors. Methods This cross-sectional study used a 2012 survey by the Miyagi Prefectural Government, in which almost all of evacuees were targeted (response rate: 61.6%). Self-rated health (SRH) and psychological distress measured via K6 score were the dependent variables, and social participation was the independent variable. Odds ratios of the social participation on health variables were estimated using logistic regression models. To assess the contribution of social participation, the population attributable fraction (PAF) was estimated. Results The participants lived in prefabricated and rented housing numbered 19,726 and 28,270, respectively. Participants in prefabricated housing had poorer SRH and K6 than those in rented housing. The proportions of participants engaging in social participation of prefabricated and rented housing were 38.2% and 15.4%, respectively. The absence of social participation was significantly associated with poor SRH and K6 among participants in both housing types. The PAFs of social participation with good SRH were 39.5% in prefabricated housing and 14.4% in rented housing. For K6, the PAFs were 47.1% and 19.5% in prefabricated and rented housing, respectively. Conclusion Compared to the residents in rented housing, residents in prefabricated housing had more frequent opportunities for social participation, which was associated with larger health benefits.

Star-shaped cyclopolymers were first synthesized on the basis of living cationic cyclopolymerization of divinyl ethers bearing a variety of bulky substituents, including cyclohexene, norbornene, norbornane, cyclic acetal, and adamantane groups. All the obtained cyclopolymers exhibited a high degree of cyclization, as high as ~97%, judging from the contents of residual pendant vinyl ether double bonds in the polymers. The glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of both the linear and star-shaped cyclopolymers were in the range of 145−229 °C depending on the pendant substituents. Methacrylate-terminated end-functionalized star-shaped cyclopolymers were synthesized by the functionalized initiator-based living cationic cyclopolymerization of divinyl ethers. The subsequent cross-linked core formation occurred via the reaction of the growing tail termini, whereas the methacrylate head terminals remained intact. The obtained end-functionalized star-shaped cyclopolymers were subjected to a thermal cross-linking reaction to yield star-shaped cyclopolymer networks with film-forming ability. Controlled cationic cyclopolymerizations of divinyl ethers with cyclohexene, norbornene, norbornane, cyclic acetal, or adamantane moiety were carried out. High-molecular-weight star-shaped cyclopolymers were synthesized by the reaction of the formed living cyclopolymers with a small amount of divinyl ether crosslinking agent. Glass transition temperatures (Tg’s) of both the cyclopolymers and star-shaped cyclopolymers were as high as 145−229 oC. Methacrylate-terminated end-functionalized star-shaped cyclopolymers were synthesized by the functionalized initiator-based living cationic cyclopolymerization of divinyl ethers followed by the chain linking reactions among the formed living cyclopolymers with divinyl ether crosslinker. The obtained end-functionalized star-shaped cyclopolymers were subjected to thermal crosslinking reaction to give star-shaped cyclopolymer networks with film-forming ability.

The hydride-fluoride pyrochlore NaCaMg2F7−xHx has been synthesized at high pressure (2 GPa) from binary fluorides and hydrides. Contrary to initial expectations, we did not find strong evidence of selective hydride substitution in special anionic sites. F-center formation under UV irradiation at room temperature was observed, demonstrating the potential lability of hydride and enabling further systematic studies.

Perovskite oxyhydrides may find diverse applications, ranging from catalysis, topochemical synthesis to solid state ionics, but the understanding of their hydride transport behavior has remained limited. Here, gaseous hydrogen exchange and release experiments were analyzed using the Kissinger method to estimate the activation energy (Ea) for H/D exchange and H2 release in BaTiO3–xHx (x = 0.35–0.60) and LaSrCoO3H0.70. It is revealed that, for each BaTiO3–xHx at a given hydride concentration (x), both H/D exchange and H2 release experiments provide similar Ea values. For BaTiO3–xHx with different x, the obtained Ea values significantly decrease with increasing x until around 0.4; beyond 0.4, it becomes nearly constant (200–220 kJ mol–1). We have expanded the pressure ranges at room and high temperatures generated in a Kawai-type multi-anvil apparatus (KMA) using tungsten carbide (WC) anvils with a high hardness of Hv = 2700 and a Young’s modulus of 660 GPa. At room temperature, a pressure of 64 GPa, which is the highest pressure generated with KMA using WC anvils in the world, was achieved using 1°-tapered anvils with a 1.5-mm truncation. Pressures of 48–50 GPa were generated at high temperatures of 1600–2000 K, which are also higher than previously achieved. Tapered anvils make wide anvil gaps enabling efficient X-ray diffraction. The present pressure generation technique can be used for studying the upper part of the Earth’s lower mantle down to 1200 km depth without sintered diamond anvils.

Consumption of green tea without sugar, as well as social networks, are associated with a lower risk of tooth loss. There is a possibility of confounding both factors because tea is often drunk with friends. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine whether green tea consumption is beneficially associated with the number of remaining teeth, while considering social networks. This cross-sectional study was based on the Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (JAGES) in 2016. Self-administered questionnaires containing questions about green tea consumption were mailed to 34,567 community-dwelling residents aged &ge, 65 years. We used the number of remaining teeth as a dependent variable, and green tea consumption and the number of friends met over the past month (social network size) as independent variables. Linear regression models with multiple imputation were used. A total of 24,147 people responded (response rate = 69.9%), and 22,278 valid data were included into our analysis. Participants&rsquo, mean age was 74.2 years (standard deviation = 6.3), and 45.9% were men. Among the participants, 52.2% had &ge, 20 teeth, 34.2% drank 2&ndash, 3 cups of green tea per day, and 32.6% met &ge, 10 people over the past month. After adjusting for all potential confounders, both higher green tea consumption and a larger social network size were associated with more remaining teeth (both p for trend &lt, 0.001). The association of green tea was greater among those with smaller social networks (p for interaction &lt, 0.05). The protective association of green tea was remarkable among people with smaller social networks.

High-pressure X-ray diffraction measurements on the layered oxyhydrides Sr

In this study, the effects of fabrication conditions on the microstructure, pore characteristics and gas retention of pure tungsten specimens prepared by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) were investigated. The LPBF specimens contained micro- and nano- sized pores as internal defects. By optimizing the laser irradiation conditions, the formation of micropores was suppressed. The densest LPBF specimen was obtained when the input energy density was adjusted to be 411 J/mm3, and the relative density of the specimen measured by utilizing Archimedes' principle reached 98.58 ± 0.25% (19.03 ± 0.05 g/cm3). Heat treatment at a high temperature (1900 °C) was effective to reduce the number density of nanopores. The compositions and amounts of internal gas in the specimens were examined using a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The results indicated that the specimens contained the argon (Ar), which was used as the shielding gas. The Ar retention was correlated with the number density of nanopores in the specimens and not with the density of micropores. The Ar retention decreased to almost half that in the as-fabricated specimen after the heat treatment at 1900 °C. These observations suggest that Ar gas was trapped in nanopores in the LPBF material. It was demonstrated that a part of the trapped Ar dissolved and diffused in grains during the heat treatment and was released to the outside.

The Earth’s mantle is characterized by a sharp seismic discontinuity at a depth of 660 km that can provide insights into deep mantle processes. The discontinuity occurs over only 2 km—or a pressure difference of 0.1 GPa—and is thought to result from the post-spinel transition, that is, the decomposition of the mineral ringwoodite to bridgmanite plus ferropericlase. Existing high-pressure, high-temperature experiments have lacked the pressure control required to test whether such sharpness is the result of isochemical phase relations or chemically distinct upper and lower mantle domains. Here, we obtain the isothermal pressure interval of the Mg–Fe binary post-spinel transition by applying advanced multi-anvil techniques with in situ X-ray diffraction with the help of Mg–Fe partition experiments. It is demonstrated that the interval at mantle compositions and temperatures is only 0.01 GPa, corresponding to 250 m. This interval is indistinguishable from zero at seismic frequencies. These results can explain the discontinuity sharpness and provide new support for whole-mantle convection in a chemically homogeneous mantle. The present work suggests that distribution of adiabatic vertical flows between the upper and lower mantles can be mapped on the basis of discontinuity sharpness. The post-spinel transition in mantle composition, which occurs at 660-km depth in Earth’s mantle, takes place over a pressure range equivalent to 250 m in depth, according to multi-anvil experiments for realistic mantle compositions and temperatures.

We have prepared a set of polycrystalline samples of La 0.8 Sr 0.2 Co 1 &minus, x Al x O 3 ( 0 &le, x &le, 0.2 ), and have measured the magnetization as functions of temperature and magnetic field. We find that the average spin number per Co ion ( S Co ) evaluated from the room-temperature susceptibility is around 1.2&ndash, 1.3 and independent of x. However, we further find that S Co evaluated from the saturation magnetization at 2 K is around 0.3&ndash, 0.7, and decreases dramatically with x. This naturally indicates that a significant fraction of the Co 3 + ions experience a spin-state crossover from the intermediate- to low-spin state with decreasing temperature in the Al-substituted samples. This spin-state crossover also explains the resistivity and the thermopower consistently. In particular, we find that the thermopower is anomalously enhanced by the Al substitution, which can be consistently explained in terms of an extended Heikes formula.

Deformational, metamorphic, monazite age and fabric data from Rengali Province, eastern India converge towards a multi-scale transpressional deformational episode at ca. 498–521 Ma which is linked with the latest phase of tectonic processes operative at proto-India-Antarctica join. Detailed sector wise study on mutual overprinting relationships of macro-to microstructural elements suggest that deformation was regionally partitioned into fold-thrust dominated shortening zones alternating with zones of dominant transcurrent deformation bounded between the thrust sense Barkot Shear Zone in the north and the dextral Kerajang Fault Zone in the south. The strain partitioned zones are further restricted between two regional transverse shear zones, the sinistral Riamol Shear Zone in the west and the dextral Akul Fault Zone in the east which are interpreted as synthetic R and antithetic R' Riedel shear plane, respectively. The overall structural disposition has been interpreted as a positive flower structure bounded between the longitudinal and transverse faults with vertical extrusion and symmetric juxtaposition of mid-crustal amphibolite grade basement gneisses over low-grade upper crustal rocks emanating from the central axis of the transpressional belt.
