Abstract Evaluation of genetic biodiversity for micronutrients is crucial for breeding high-quality crops and addressing the negative impacts of mineral deficiencies. The objectives of this research were to assess genetic variation and the relationship between grain Fe and Zn levels and agronomic traits in a diverse collection of wheat varieties. Additionally, the study aimed to determine the correlation between microsatellite markers (SSR) and micronutrient quantities. A total of 42 genotypes (Iranian commercial cultivars, landraces, and Afghan and Swiss varieties) were evaluated over a two-year period. Fe and Zn levels were measured using two semi quantitative staining assays and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) facility. Semi-quantitative staining methods and AAS showed high correlations for micronutrient contents. Landraces exhibited higher Fe (63.79 mg/kg) and Zn (44.76 mg/kg) but lower grain yield compared with commercial cultivars. Heritability estimates ranged 53%-79.43%, suggesting that genetic variance played a higher contribution in the phenotypic variation of traits than environmental factors. Notably, Fe content displayed significant correlations with days to maturity. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) revealed that Zn content was correlated with four agronomic traits. Evaluation of genetic diversity using SSR markers demonstrated high genetic variation among the genotypes tested. The analysis of polymorphism information content (PIC) indicated that SSR primers had an average PIC of 0.75, with the Xgwm192 primer exhibiting higher PIC than others. Several SSR markers revealed association with micronutrient content that can be used in marker-assisted selection (MAS) programs aimed at selection of high micronutrient genotypes. In conclusion, the findings underscored the substantial genetic diversity present in micronutrient levels among global wheat genotypes, the potential of landraces for micronutrients biofortification of wheat cultivars through cross hybridization, the utility of staining methods for screening high/low micronutrient genotypes, and use of microsatellite markers for marker-assisted breeding aiming to micronutrient improvement in breeding programs.

Communication networks are exposed to internal or external risks that can affect all or part of the system. The most important components that form the infrastructure of these systems are routers, which act as nodes. In the field of graph theory, there are sophisticated techniques that can be used to optimize the path of a packet as it travels through various routers from its origin to its destination. A notable example of such an algorithm is Dijkstra's algorithm, which is designed to efficiently determine the shortest path. The algorithm works under the assumption that the system operates under ideal conditions. Real-time systems can perform better if risk factors and optimal conditions are taken into account. The relationship between the nodes can be expressed by various metrics such as distance, delay, and bandwidth. The aforementioned metrics facilitate the calculation of the optimal path, with the ultimate objective of achieving low-latency networks characterized by rapid response times. Round-trip time (RTT) can be employed as a metric for measuring enhancements in a range of latency types, including those associated with processing, transmission, queuing, and propagation. The use of Z-numbers was employed in this study to incorporate risk into the optimal path metric. RTT was the preferred metric and reliability was represented by fuzzy linguistic qualifiers. A comparison of several scenarios was shown using a numerical example of a communication network. It is expected that this study will have a significant impact on the evolution from models that consider only ideal conditions to real-time systems that include risks using Z-numbers.

Abstract Background Cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), or strokes, are major global health concerns associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, and gastrointestinal complications. This study aimed to explore the impact of postbiotic supplementation in CVA patients, specifically in terms of oxidative stress, inflammation, and clinical outcomes, as an alternative to probiotics with potential advantages. Method A prospective, single-center, randomized, controlled trial was conducted with 120 CVA patients in Iran. These patients were admitted to the ICU to assess the severity of their strokes. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either postbiotic supplementation (n = 60) or a placebo (n = 60). Various biomarkers related to oxidative stress, inflammation, and clinical outcomes were assessed. Data on demographic characteristics, nosocomial infections, and laboratory measurements were collected. Gut microbiota analysis was also performed on fecal samples. Results After the 7-day intervention, postbiotic supplementation resulted in significant improvements in inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and a reduced incidence of pneumonia compared with those in the control group, with the postbiotic group demonstrating notable decreases in the serum IL-1β levels (-1.79; 95% CI: = -2.9 to -0.64, p = 0.002 ), MDA levels (-30.5; 95% CI: -54.8 to -6.1, p = 0.015), Hs-CRP levels (-0.67; 95% CI:-1.1 to -0.26 mg/dl, p = 0.001) and TAC levels (62.5; 95%CI: 34.1 to 90.9, p

Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth infestation is one of the major constraints to maize production in the Nigeria savannas. The application of nitrogen fertilizer to Striga-resistant hybrids may reduce Striga infection and increase grain yields. The objective of this study was to assess the performance of six maize hybrids at low (30 kg ha−1) and high (120 kg ha−1) nitrogen application under natural infestation with Striga in northern Nigeria in 2014 and 2015. The two nitrogen rates and the six hybrids were arranged in a split-plot design with three replications. The nitrogen treatment was assigned to the main plot while the maize hybrids were assigned to the subplot. Data were collected on number of emerged Striga plants, Striga damage score, total dry matter and grain yield. Results showed that the application of nitrogen at 120 kg ha−1 reduced the number of Striga plants by 58% compared to application at 30 kg N ha−1 in Kafin Madaki and by 48% in Tudun Wada. Nitrogen application at 120 kg N ha−1 also reduced Striga damage rating by 22% in Kafin Madaki and by 33% in Tudun Wada. Both the commercial hybrid (OBASUPER 1) and the susceptible hybrid (8338-1) exhibited higher Striga damage ratings compared to the new hybrids at both locations. Grain yield was 86 and 98% higher in Kafin Madaki and Tudun Wada, respectively, when N was applied at 120 kg N ha−1 than at 30 kg N ha−1. The hybrids M1124-3 and M1227-14 produced grain yields that were significantly higher than those of the other hybrids in all locations. Our results showed that the application of 120 kg N ha−1 to Striga-resistant maize hybrids will reduce Striga infection and increase grain yield.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify workstation factors influencing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) among information technology (IT) professionals in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 150 IT workers at small-enterprise companies who were randomly selected across East Java, Indonesia. The data were modeled using multiple linear regression, with a 95% level of confidence for determining statistical significance. Results: The respondents reported that the neck had the highest level of discomfort and was the most at risk of WMSDs, followed by the lower back, right shoulder, and upper back. Screen use duration (p=0.040) was associated with whole-body WMSDs, along with seat width (p=0.059), armrest (p=0.027), monitor (p=0.046), and a combined telephone and monitor score (p=0.028). Meanwhile, the factors significantly related to the risk of WMSDs in the hands and wrist were working period (p=0.039), night shift (p=0.024), backrest (p=0.008), and mouse score (p=0.032). Conclusions: Occupational safety authorities, standards-setting departments, and policymakers should prioritize addressing the risk factors for WMSDs among IT professionals.
