My article proposes the notion of the immanent frame to productively address film-theoretical and theological concepts at stake in Carl Theodor Dreyer's Ordet (1955) and Carlos Reygadas's Stellet Licht (2007). I believe my intervention to be significant for it shows how both films are not only related in their religious subject matter but negotiate it in formal terms through the notion of the immanent frame. Although both films have been analyzed alongside one another in the past, my article is the first to address the Mennonite migration history and notion of secularization (Taylor) to explain the function of the time-images (Deleuze) in Reygadas's film. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients not only require life-sustaining treatments but also the preservation of their psychological well-being and dignity, and ICU nurses face heavy work pressure, focusing more on life-sustaining treatments for patients, while the patient's psychological experiences are often overlooked. This article aims to explore the issue of nurse-led patient dignity preservation in the ICU from China. Reflection is a process of deep thinking and examining one's actions, experiences, perspectives, or emotions. It involves retrospectively reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating past events to gain insights, understanding, and personal growth. Through reflection, individuals can consider whether their actions align with their values and goals and whether they can learn valuable lessons from them. This article discusses the preservation of patient dignity in the ICU from China based on Taylor's Emancipatory Reflection Model, which involves four steps: constructing, deconstructing, confronting, and reconstructing. The process of reflection incorporates theories such as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Comfort Theory, and the style of Paternalistic Decision-making. This study is of great significance in enhancing Chinese nurse's attention to patient dignity, improving the inpatient experience of ICU patients, and enhancing the quality of nursing practice by critically examining current nursing practices in China and providing improvement recommendations. Cardiovascular prosthetic devices, stents, prosthetic valves, heart-assist pumps, etc., operate in a wide regime of flows characterized by fluid dynamic flow structures, laminar and turbulent flows, unsteady flow patterns, vortices, and other flow disturbances. These flow disturbances cause shear stress, hemolysis, platelet activation, thrombosis, and other types of blood trauma, leading to neointimal hyperplasia, neoatherosclerosis, pannus overgrowth, etc. Couette-type blood-shearing devices are used to simulate and then clinically measure blood trauma, after which the results can be used to assist in the design of the cardiovascular prosthetic devices. However, previous designs for such blood-shearing devices do not cover the whole range of flow shear, Reynolds numbers, and Taylor numbers characteristic of all types of implanted cardiovascular prosthetic devices, limiting the general applicability of clinical data obtained by tests using different blood-shearing devices. This paper presents the key fluid dynamic parameters that must be met. Based on this, Couette device geometric parameters such as diameter, gap, flow rate, shear stress, and temperature are carefully selected to ensure that the device's Reynolds numbers, Taylor number, operating temperature, and shear stress in the gap fully represent the flow characteristics across the operating range of all types of cardiovascular prosthetic devices. The outcome is that the numerical data obtained from the presented device can be related to all such prosthetic devices and all flow conditions, making the results obtained with such shearing devices widely applicable across the field. In this paper, I inquire into the notion of background in the philosophy of Charles Taylor and seek to complement it with reflections made by Hubert Dreyfus. This notion aims to counteract the cognitive representationalism that Descartes's thought tremendously promoted and that has been largely perpetuated by modern epistemology. Representationalism, for Taylor, makes us open to anthropologies based on ontologies of disengagement (dualism and mechanistic monism), an imprint which decisively influenced modern and contemporary philosophy despite the efforts of different schools of thought that claim to have overcome it. For Dreyfus, the notion of background is linked to our social practices, and Heidegger's controversial "the One" (das Man) is its privileged place of transmission; it is also that which would definitively collapse the Cartesian representationalist legacy. This paper describes three basic positions that have been held in relation to the place of religious ideas and reasons in public square deliberation by outlining the arguments of major representatives of each position. The three positions are: 'obligatory relegation' (Robert Audi); 'willing translation' (John Rawls and Jürgen Habermas), and 'unreserved declaration' (Nicholas Wolterstorff and Charles Taylor). I conclude by offering an observation from the survey. Even as the question of the place of religious ideas in public square deliberation can be approached from either broader domains of the secularisation/post-secularisation of societies or the essence of liberal democracy, it is not the domain itself but rather specific conceptions of key ideas or notions within each domain that push the representatives to take the position that they do. Introduction: Scophularia striata Boiss plant from Scrophulariaceae family. In western states of Iran, a plant of Snapdragon has traditional medical usage. It utilize as a disinfectant and for treatment of stomach ulcer, infection of eyes and ears in the western regions of the country. Different parts of the Scophularia striata have different medicinal properties. So that the leaf extract of the plant has an inhibitory effect on the growth of fibroblasts and its seed extract stimulates the growth of the cell. Materials and Methods: Spatial distribution and species diversity of Scophularia striata was evaluated in Siahkouh region of Dehloran in 2020 with the aim of determining the appropriate distribution pattern of sampling and selection of the environmental factors affecting the species diversity of medicinal plants. Random sampling carried out according to w pattern in three altitudes (205-605, 605-1005 and 1005-1405 m) and two directs: West and East. Spatial distribution was evaluated by distribution indices, Taylor and Iwao models and diversity indicators. Results and Discussion: Different parts of Siahkuh Dehloran region have different distribution and diversity and with increasing the distribution height, the Scophularia striata becomes random and the diversity of species was uniform. All comparative methods showed that the distribution in the elevation class 1405-1005 was not significant. Shannon-Wiener and Simpson species diversity index also showed significant differences in three altitudes and two East and West directions of Siahkuh region. The results showed the highest value of Taylor and Iwao coefficient in west direction of altitude 605-1005 were 1.05 and 1.06 for Taylor and 1.18 and 1.17 for Iwao respectively, which Iwao model fitted better than Taylor model according to R2 and P obtained from 605-1005 altitude. Other indices values indicated the most amount of coefficient was in 205-605 m altitude and west direction. There are significant differences between the values of diversity indices in 3 altitudes and 2 directions of West and East (P≤0.05), too. The most and lowest amounts of Shannon-Weiner index were 0.76 and 1.23 for 205-605 and 1005-1405 m altitudes, respectively. Also, among the various indices, Morisita was better than others to show the distribution pattern of the Scophularia striata. Conclusion: The results showed that spatial distribution of the medicinal plant S. striata was cumulative in different indices and distribution pattern was randomly, species diversity decreased and uniformity amount enhanced by addition of altitudes. By comparing the diversity of species and distribution of Scophularia striata in other regions of the country and comparing with the results of this research, the best conditions can evaluate for physiological growth of the plant in terms of temperature, altitude, amount of sunlight, soil conditions etc. The results of the present study can also be used in studies related to modeling the sampling of medicinal plants and suggesting suitable breeding species to restore the vegetation of degraded species. Evaluation the distribution pattern in different plants can help to preserve rare species of medicinal and ornamental plants. Especially in the case of endangered plants, whether by humans or by livestock or natural disasters, the largest number of plant species can be found with similar research, in an area with a specific distribution pattern to achieve its full purpose with cost reduction used to maintain that species. In addition, determining the distribution pattern with the study of species diversity in different regions can help the researcher to determine what environmental or soil conditions in that region have caused the growth of these particular species, and the relationship between these plants. It is even possible to try in breeding programs for cossing between similar species and genera with close relationship to increase species diversity in that area and reduce the risk of extinction in the coming years. Background and Objectives: In the hydrologic cycle, evaporation is the primary phenomenon that causes water loss. Evaporation takes into account various parts of the water balance under completely different climates, and its correct prediction is very important for water resources management. The importance of evaporation and its impact on surface water balance is highlighted through its relation to climate change and global warming. The latest outputs of meteorological models suggest that global warming has caused an increase in evaporation from the land surface and surface water bodies, which is anticipated to have a serious impact over time on water resources management and the global population. In arid and semi-arid regions, accurate prediction of evaporation is very important for decision-makers due to water scarcity. Estimating daily evaporation with the highest accuracy and in the fastest possible time is essential to determine the water needs of different products, design irrigation programs, and manage water resources in different areas, especially when there is insufficient meteorological information. Evaporation has complex and non-linear behavior. Also, the evaporation variable is not measured in some meteorological stations. Furthermore, meteorological stations are not correctly distributed in many developing countries including Iran. Since coastal areas have more evaporation than others, in many cases the amount of evaporation is higher than the global average. Despite the high importance of evaporation in coastal areas, very few studies have predicted this parameter in Iran. Moreover, accurate prediction of water loss in these areas leads to a better understanding of the hydrological cycle and is essential for optimal water management and agriculture. Thus, the purpose of this research is to predict daily evaporation values in four coastal stations of Abadan, Ramsar, Bandar Abbas, and Bandar Anzali. Methodology: The main meteorological variables including average relative humidity, minimum relative humidity, maximum relative humidity, average temperature, minimum temperature, maximum temperature, sunshine hours, and wind speed, under separate scenarios, as input for support vector regression (SVR) and SVR with firefly algorithm (SVR-FFA) for estimating evaporation values were used on a daily scale. Statistical parameters in the period of 1990-2021 were utilized as input to the mentioned models. To evaluate the performance of the implemented models, various statistical parameters were used, including correlation coefficient (R), root mean squared error (RMSE), Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NS), and Willmott's Index of Agreement (WI). To better estimate the daily evaporation values, eight different scenarios were used as the combinations of input parameters. Findings: Based on the obtained results for all studied stations, the SVR-FFA-8 showed the least error with RMSE = 2.843 (mm day-1) for Abadan station, RMSE = 1.13 (mm day-1) for Ramsar station, RMSE = 1.985 (mm day-1) for Bandar Abbas station and RMSE = 1.225 (mm day-1) for Bandar Anzali station. Therefore, the hybrid model was able to improve the accuracy of the standalone model and improve the prediction accuracy. Conclusion: For the indices of correlation coefficient, Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient, and Willmott's index of agreement, the SVR-FFA-8 model also indicated in the highest values between observed and predicted amounts. Also, the indices of correlation coefficient, Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient, and Willmott's index of agreement illustrated the highest accuracy in Abadan station for all combinations compared to other stations, which shows the high correlation of observed and predicted values in this station. After SVR-FFA-8, SVR-FFA-7 model in Abadan and Bandar Anzali stations and the SVR-FFA-6 in Ramsar and Bandar Abbas stations showed acceptable performance. Thus, the RMSE for Abadan and Bandar Anzali stations is 2.995 (mm day-1) and 1.272 (mm day-1), respectively, and for Ramsar and Bandar Abbas, 1.176 (mm day-1) and was obtained 1.993 (mm day-1). Comparing the results of SVR combinations also revealed that for Abadan, Ramsar, and Bandar Anzali stations, SVR-8 model and for Bandar Abbas station, SVR-6 model showed the highest accuracy among all SVR combinations in all four studied stations. Also, the Ramsar station presented the lowest RMSE compared to other stations. After the SVR-8 model for Abadan, Ramsar, and Bandar Anzali stations, the SVR-7 and SVR-6 models for the Bandar Abbas station showed a weaker performance due to having fewer input parameters. The comparison between the input parameters also concluded that the sunshine hours is the most important parameter in predicting the daily evaporation values in all four stations, thus increasing the accuracy of the models. This article seeks to analyse Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (1971) by Elizabeth Taylor and the award-winning Elizabeth Is Missing (2014) by Emma Healey with reference to the existential-phenomenological accounts of old age and aging elaborated by Simone de Beauvoir in The Coming of Age and Jean Améry in On Aging: Revolt and Resignation. It is argued that both novels bring to prominence what may be described in Beauvoir’s terms as the lived experience of existential ambiguity, which haunts the elderly female protagonists as their inner sense of self comes increasingly into conflict with both their physical changes and the identity thrust upon them by others. Taylor’s Mrs Palfrey, along with the other elderly residents of the Claremont Hotel in London, and Healey’s dementia-ridden Maud are caught in a struggle to resist the social stigma of old age, which puts constraints on their freedom of self-determination, while simultaneously growing estranged from themselves and external reality. In examining this ambiguity, the article accords particular attention to its manifestations in the characters’ interpersonal relationships, altered way of being-in-the-world and experience of the body.

Philosophical hermeneutics has become an unavoidable reference in the field throughout the twentieth century but has seldom been extended to draw conclusions in the area of political theory. Two intellectuals that have contributed to such a project are Charles Taylor and Gianni Vattimo, although they exhibit some important differences in key aspects of this enterprise, both at the level of the conceptual premises and at that of the prescribed policies and objectives. Here I examine these thinkers’ notion of tradition – an essential feature of hermeneutical theories – its ontological underpinnings, and the place each of them assign to it in sociopolitical decision-making, especially in the context of multicultural societies. In the end, I argue for the superiority of Taylor’s model of understanding and employing tradition in current political and moral debates.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: This essay examines how deliberation and recognition contribute to our understanding of democracy as a form of government combining two sources of legitimacy, one based on a legal procedure and the other based on ideological faith commitment. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Although joint deliberation about policy aims and recognition of person's political identities are often assumed to be complementary (Habermas, 1996; Honneth, 2014; Taylor, 1994), I argue that this need not be the case. Political identities oriented by faith commitments pose a challenge to deliberation oriented by rational compromise. A one-sided emphasis on deliberation or recognition as exclusive sources of democratic legitimation threatens to debase the res publica to an arena of identity politics whose populist proclivities are antithetical to liberal democracy. Exacerbating this trend is the phenomenon of political polarization caused in large part by the economic stratification and socio-cultural fragmentation of a global, digital form of capitalism. My method for examining and resolving the problem relies on notable philosophers who have written about the legal and political implications of deliberation and the politics of recognition: Charles Taylor, Jürgen Habermas, and Hans Kelsen. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The paper begins by summarizing the importance of recognition for political life and its ambivalent humanistic and nationalistic (and sub-nationalistic) senses (Part 1). I then turn to Kelsen's critique of recognition as incompatible with the rule of law, followed by his qualified endorsement of recognition, understood as a necessary political ethos underwriting a liberal, deliberative form of democracy (Parts 2 and 3). Turning to our contemporary democratic crisis, I show how structural transformations within and between political parties and the public sphere have given rise to authoritarian forms of populism (Part 4). I conclude by noting how imperatives within digital capitalism produce ambivalent effects regarding the restoration of the res publica to a forum for political deliberation. RESEARCH RESULTS: The paper shows that competition between deliberative and recognitive forms of democratic legitimation is not rivalrous but mutually beneficial. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The paper concludes that the current legitimation crisis has fostered a populist reaction against liberal democracy. It proposes an innovative approach to understanding this reaction in terms of the failings of one-sided deliberative and recognition-based forms of democratic politics. The atomic bomb uses fission of heavy elements to produce a large amount of energy. It was designed and deployed during World War II by the United States military. The first test of an atomic bomb occurred in July 1945 in New Mexico and was given the name Trinity; this test was not declassified until 1949. In that year, Geoffrey Ingram Taylor released two papers detailing his process in calculating the energy yield of the atomic bomb from pictures of the Trinity explosion alone. Many scientists made similar calculations concurrently, although Taylor is often accredited with them. Since then, many scientists have also attempted to calculate a yield through various methods. This paper walks through these methods with a focus on Taylor’s method—based on first principles—as well as redoing the calculations that he performed with modern tools. In this paper, we make use of state-of-the-art computer vision tools to find a more precise measurement of the blast radius, as well as using curve fitting and numerical integration methods. With more precise measurements we are able to follow in Taylor’s footstep toward a more accurate approximation.

In his magnum opus, Sources of the Self: The Making of Modern Identity (1989), Charles Taylor gives an exhaustive and teleologically interpretive history of the modern self. He, in fact, is in search of the core of the modern identity. By 'identity', Taylor means the ensemble of the understanding of what is to be a 'human agent', a 'person', a 'self'. Taylor in generating the ontology of the self, is greatly inspired by the understanding of Dasein in Heidegger. This paper also focuses on how Taylor uses Heidegger's hermeneutics of the self in several ways to give modernity a base that is not Cartesian. Taylor's central argument is 'how the assertion of the modern individual has spawned an erroneous understanding (identity) of the self', where one experiences a loss of horizon. He has turned our attention, more than anyone else, towards the communitarian constitution of the self, and pointed out the limitations of insights within liberal individualism. For Taylor, as for early Heidegger, the self is not neutral or atomic. The self exists only in terms of questions and constitutive concerns, and it is not amenable to arbitrary determination, but can be made sense of only in terms of its life as a whole at any moment. In Sources of the Self, Charles Taylor critiques the projectionist account of values and its underlying naturalistic ontology. Likewise, in Being and Time, Martin Heidegger demonstrates that the strata theoretical explanation of practical things invested with values does not adequately describe our experience of them. I aim to demonstrate that if we read these criticisms together, we find ourselves in a better position to reveal the reality of a practical and ethical life. Taylor himself raises the question of what we are committed ontologically in our ethical commitments, but does not develop an answer. Introduction. The article analyzes the process of secularization of Western European society as a source of world secularism from the point of view of a Russian modern philosopher Grigory Borisovich Gutner and a Canadian philosopher, cultural historian Charles Margrave Taylor. Theoretical analysis. The purpose of this article, first of all, is not only the analysis of secularism as such, but also an attempt to understand the ways out of its coordinate system, which has driven itself into its own trap. The works of scientists help us to comprehend the reasons for the origin of this ideological concept, to understand in detail the pre-secular period, and to assess the current stage of public consciousness. What contributed to the cardinal change of the dominant in the ratio of the importance of the secular and spiritual? How did it happen that the centuries-old scale, on which the fundamental postulate of the idea of Divine design lay unshakably, suddenly gave way to the rationalism of scientifi c knowledge and experimental research? Why did the separation of science from theology, as a result, disintegrate all spheres of life, transforming it from a parallel area into the area of God-denial and God-fi ghting? What are the prospects for the development of the inner man, the formation of his mental and spiritual and moral qualities against the background of the rapid development of technological progress? Conclusion. In conclusion, the assessment of today’s time, relative to secular and post-secular processes, based on the research performed by G.B. Gutner and Ch. Taylor and their detailed analysis of the turning stages of human civilization, is given.

The development of a Time series Forecasting System is a major concern for Artificial Intelligence researchers. Commonly, existing systems only assess temporal features and analyze the behavior of the data over time, thus, resulting in uncertain forecasting accuracy. Although many forecasting systems were proposed in the literature; they have not yet answered the attending question. Hence, to overcome this problematic, we propose an innovative method called Taylor-based Optimized Recursive Extended Exponential Smoothed Neural Networks Forecasting method, abbreviated as TOREESNN. Briefly explained, the proposed technique introduces three ideas to solve this issue: First, building an innovative framework for forecasting univariate time series based on Exponential Smoothed theory. Second, designing an Elman Classifier model for uncertainty prediction in order to correct the forecasted values. And finally hybrading the two recurrent systems in one framework to obtain the final results. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has a high accuracy both in training and testing data in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE) and outperforms the state-of-the-art Recurrent Neural Networks models on Mackey-Glass, Nonlinear Auto-Regressive Moving Average time series (NARMA), Lorenz, and Henon map datasets. This paper seeks to make two distinctive sets of contributions through a supplementary reinterpretation of Max Weber in the light of Charles Taylor's expressivist-hermeneutical theory of human agency. First, it offers a reinterpretation of Weber's work. Focussing on the concept of stance, the paper highlights that Weber's theorising on values and their relation to cognition, action and identity is less underpinned by subjectivism, representationalism, emotivism and decisionism than is typically thought. Instead, Weber sets values within a non-naturalist dimension where agents find their bearings and are constituted as such. In this dimension, orientation to meaning takes place; identity, action and thought are constituted; and normative experiences (such as freedom, or responsibility) are made possible. Weber recognised that this non-naturalist dimension has variegated modes, but seemingly studied them in their purest and most logical form (the 'ideal type'), hence his focus on explicit belief systems and world-images. Second, there is a prospective supplementation of Weber's theory through Taylor's notion of expression. For Taylor, we take a stance and orient ourselves expressively through the domain of strongly valued meanings. The notions of strong evaluation and articulation prove central to understanding embodied, symbolic and representational meaning-orientation in the non-naturalist dimensions of values. This supplementary reading places Weber as a central figure in current American, British and French debates about, respectively, the normative nature of human agency; the question of culture, meaning and their different forms and modes of operation; and the question of how to examine identity-formation. O objetivo deste artigo é traduzir o texto De motu Nervi tensi (Sobre o movimento de uma corda tensa) de 1713 do matemático inglês Brook Taylor (1685-1731), cujo intuito é descrever o movimento de uma corda vibrante com forte ênfase no seu número de vibrações em um determinado tempo. Fazendo uso da estrutura axiomática para cumprir tal finalidade, Taylor lança mão de princípios geométricos e mecânicos, este último com forte fundamento na obra Principia de Isaac Newton. Um aspecto notável do texto de Taylor é o estabelecimento de uma relação com o pêndulo, com intuito de calcular o tempo períodico da corda vibrante. Tendo em vista preservar maior fidelidadade à obra, utiliza-se como critério de tradução respeitar a sintaxe do texto original sempre que possível.

This work presents the construction and implementation of a two-parameter exponentially fitted Taylor method suitable for solving ordinary differential equations that possess oscillatory or periodic behaviour. The methodology is based on a six-step algorithm discussed in the literature. We present the associated truncation error of the method and demonstrate its accuracy using two test cases. Within bioethics, Kant's conception of autonomy is often portrayed as excessively rationalistic, abstract, and individualistic, and, therefore, far removed from the reality of patients' needs. Drawing on recent contributions in Kantian philosophy, we argue that specific features of Kantian autonomy remain relevant for medical ethics and for patient experience. We use contemporary end-of-life illness narratives—a resource that has not been analyzed with respect to autonomy—and show how they illustrate important Kantian themes, namely, the duty to know oneself, the interest in elaborating universalizable principles, and the emphasis on ideals as points of orientation that guide behavior without ever being fully realized. As Kant does, the patient-authors discussed here perceive the end of life as a moment to reflect on the constitutive principles which have governed that life, thereby offering a privileged moment to pursue self-knowledge. We argue that bioethical conceptions of autonomy stand to gain if they revise their conception of Kantian moral philosophy as too formal, abstract, and detached from emotions and personal relationships to be helpfully applied. In this paper I present the position of two philosophers associated with the hermeneutic tradition, Gianni Vattimo and Charles Taylor, about the status of scientific knowledge in our contemporary world. Through a brief exposition of the fundamental features of their respective ontologies and epistemologies, I seek to offer a critical comparison. In the conclusion, I defend the superiority of Taylor's formulation, inasmuch it allows to put in question the primacy of the natural science model without abandoning a realist conception of the world and of the category of truth. This work presents a semi-analytical solution of transient Dean flow in a composite annular duct with porous walls partially filled with porous materials. The flow is set up as a result of the imposed pressure gradient in the azimuthal (θ) direction while both the outer and the inner cylinders are fixed. The appropriate governing equations for the flow are rendered dimensionless and transformed using suitable techniques, the Laplace transform technique is further used to transform the partial differential equations into the total differential equation. The solution of the ODE is later transformed to the time domain using the well-known Riemann-sum approximation approach. To validate the accuracy of the numerical scheme deployed in this research, numerical comparison of the steady-state solution, and the values generated using the implicit finite difference on the transient state model is presented. Generally, higher dominance of clear fluid and fluid injection at the inner cylinder is found to enhance the fluid velocity at the fluid interface. It is also good to note that injection of fluid at the inner cylinder pose a decreasing influence on the flow with minimum or no effect near the point R = 1.7.

This article is a comparative analysis between Charles Taylor's and Martin Heidegger's philosophy focusing on three main terms: mine-ness, other and world. It is a search for similarities and differences between these terms. In the view of results, mine-ness appears to be the most similar aspect of these two philosophies. It is a core term used for describing both Dasein and self. Close similarities have been marked for the "world" as well. These parallels are based on philosophers understanding of this word, of what it means to "self" and how this includes "others". The article is divided into three parts, each dedicated to one of the main themes of this work. Concluding, although there are some similarities and differences between Taylor's and Heidegger's philosophies and that there is a significant time gap between the main works concerning discussed in this article issues, what makes them most alike is how still up-to-date these philosophies are.

I review Talbot Taylor's rigorous critique of stylistic theory (begun as early as his first book in 1981 and resumed periodically, at least implicitly, in the decades since), and speculate as to why it appeared to have little impact on the practice of literary stylistics. Are stylisticians simply too engrossed in the practical and pedagogical commitments of stylistics to be embarrassed by the deep theoretical contradictions Taylor identified? Or perhaps the appearance of disregard is deceptive; perhaps some contemporary stylisticians have accepted the Taylorian theoretical critique, and tacitly recognise that literary stylistics is in essence a highly specialized form of the normative metadiscourse, applied to literary texts, that Taylor has argued lies at the heart of lay linguistics. The processing of steel waste slag from the black metallurgical sector seriously threatened the ecology. To counter these dangers, appropriate detoxification methods were required. Vermitechnology was one such strategy that could successfully convert this industrial waste into nutrient-rich products suitable for use in agriculture. This research primarily focuses on employing vermitechnology for the transformation of waste steel slag into vermicompost and to determine changes in microbial composition, nutrient cycling, and metal detoxification facilitated by earthworms (Eisenia fetida). Earthworm populations in steel waste vermibeds (sw-vermibeds) increased by 2.87–3.07 folds. T1(SW + CD-1:1) comparatively showed increased levels of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Microbial and enzymatic parameters were more pronounced in treatment T1. The findings of phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) diversity demonstrate microbial diversity and fatty acid composition. Based on PLFA Sobol Sensitivity Analysis (SSA), PUFA and cyclo were the most sensitive inputs to the presence of heavy metal (HMs) concentrations in SW. In accordance with Taylor-based modelling, R-tree, and Mars were the most trusted regression models for predicting HMs toxicity on microbes. The bioavailable metal fractions of HMs (Fe, Ni, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Cr) decreased by 61–83%. The correlation was performed for 0 and 90 days for metal microbial interactions r (0 days), [BSR vs Fe, Cd, Cu, Ni = −0.99, −0.82, −0.43, −0.99] and r (90 days), [FDA vs Fe, Cu, Ni = −0.97, −0.47, −0.95]. Overall, the results indicated that T1(1:1 SW + CD) provided more favorable conditions for the development of microbes and Eisenia fetida. This research presents a new perspective to the world community on the transformation of harmful steel waste slag into advantageous biological resources by introducing a novel method of employing Eisenia fetida to remediate hazardous steel waste slag. • Hazardous steel waste slag (SW) was effectively remediated by Eisenia fetida. • Eisenia fetida effectively reduced toxicity by bioaccumulating HMs in their gut. • Under HMs stress in vermibeds, PUFA and Cyclo were the most sensitive PLFA factors. Tele health utilizes information and communication mechanisms to convey medical information for providing clinical and educational assistances. It makes an effort to get the better of issues of health service delivery involving time factor, space and laborious terrains, validating cost-efficiency and finer ingress in both developed and developing countries. Tele health has been categorized into either real-time electronic communication, or store-andforward communication. In recent years, a third-class has been perceived as remote healthcare monitoring or tele health, presuming data obtained via Internet of Things (IOT). Although, tele health data analytics and machine learning have been researched in great depth, there is a dearth of studies that entirely concentrate on the progress of ML-based techniques for tele health data analytics in the IoT healthcare sector. Motivated by this fact, in this work a method called, Weighted Bayesian and Polynomial Taylor Deep Network (WB-PTDN) is proposed to improve health prediction in a computationally efficient and accurate manner. First, the Independent Component Data Arrangement model is designed with the objective of normalizing the data obtained from the Physionet dataset. Next, with the normalized data as input, Weighted Bayesian Feature Extraction is applied to minimize the dimensionality involved and therefore extracting the relevant features for further health risk analysis. Finally, to obtain reliable predictions concerning tele health data analytics, First Order Polynomial Taylor DNN-based Feature Homogenization is proposed that with the aid of First Order Polynomial Taylor function updates the new results based on the result analysis of old values and therefore provides increased transparency in decision making. The comparison of proposed and existing methods indicates that the WB-PTDN method achieves higher accuracy, true positive rate and lesser response time for IoT based tele health data analytics than the traditional methods. This article reviews the book by Professor Charles C. Jalloh, The Legal Legacy of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, published in 2020 by Cambridge University Press. In this book, the author examines the "hybrid" international/national criminal tribunal, known as the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), which was created under a pathbreaking bilateral treaty between the United Nations (UN) and the country of Sierra Leone as a UN member state. Jalloh seeks to evaluate the contributions made by SCSL to the development of international criminal law. In particular, he assesses the scope and significance of SCSL legal contributions from its solutions to problems arising between its opening and the completion of its work in 2013, having to do with personal and temporal jurisdiction; gender crimes as crimes against humanity; recruitment of children as war crimes; head-of-state immunity; amnesty; and tensions between criminal tribunals and truth commissions. The sociological study of political culture has made important headways. Scholars have demonstrated the significance of background culture, symbols and narratives as well as of the shared patterns of conduct. Yet, the relationship of those to ordinary people, how they become meaningful, has not been effectively explored. This paper argues that to comprehend this relationship we must understand political languages as concerning questions of being. I will show how the philosophical resources of Mead's pragmatism and Taylor's hermeneutics can enlighten the link between political languages and self, demonstrate its significance, and suggest ways in which the study of political cultures can be extended to integrate meaningful selfhood. Comparing and complementing pragmatism and hermeneutics, I will argue that political languages become meaningful along two intertwined dimensions: First, practical self-insertion in coordinative patterns, which involves the expression of concerns and senses of being. Second, self- and world clarification. Here, political languages become important when they articulate concerns and intuitions and bring moral sources into proximity. Moreover, by foregrounding Taylor's hermeneutics of self-expression and articulation, which is yet to be integrated in the social sciences, I will show how both dimensions are connected in an hermeneutical cycle and thus ought to be analysed in their relationship. We live in a society absorbed by the media. The individual loses himself by interacting with society and its members through technology. Neil Postman critiqued this kind of society by creating a new concept: Technopoly, showing the hegemony of the media in society. Similar critiques have been made by philosophers such as Charles Taylor, who explains the alienation of the individual from moral principles in this technopoly. Man has been unconsciously manipulated by the media ruled by the State. Released from natural laws, man depends on the media to frame his reality, his values, his norms. The individual loses the meaning of everything around him, and this makes him the center of the universe and considers himself "the measure of all things." The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of technology in man from the perspective of philosophical anthropology and Charles Taylor᾽s works in the Ethics of Authenticity and Neil Postman᾽s Technopoly. We will analyze how man has tried to find his freedom and this search has chained him to technology and media. Man᾽s scope of reality is shaped by these means. That is to say, man has lost his freedom while looking for it. He is no longer able to think or to speak his own words. Rather it is the media that think and speak through him.

This work presents the construction and implementation of a two-parameter exponentially fitted Taylor method suitable for solving ordinary differential equations that possess oscillatory or periodic behaviour. The methodology is based on a six-step algorithm discussed in the literature. We present the associated truncation error of the method and demonstrate its accuracy using two test cases. The method gave better results compared with its counterparts discussed in the literature.

Sammendrag I Retrieving Realism (2015), søker Dreyfus og Taylor (D&T) å 1) forkaste det de kaller «medieringsbildet» til fordel for en «kontaktteori» om forholdet mellom sinn og verden, 2) forsvare et skille mellom «hverdagsvirkeligheten» og ting slik de er i seg selv og 3) gjøre dette uten å komme med dristige filosofiske teser. Problemet er at 2) står i fare for å undergrave muligheten for både 1) og 3). Denne artikkelen gjennomgår og problematiserer sentrale elementer i D&Ts argumentasjon, før den med utgangspunkt i en fenomenologisk persepsjonsanalyse skisserer en mer tilfredsstillende vei mot en uproblematisk realismeposisjon.

Sammendrag Artikkelen er en kritisk diskusjon av Hubert Dreyfus og Charles Taylors bok Retrieving Realism fra 2015. Artikkelens sentrale anliggende er hvordan vi best skal forstå ideen om «anti-representasjonalistisk» filosofi, og hvordan en slik filosofi bør forholde seg til realisme-spørsmålet. Artikkelen sammenligner Dreyfus og Taylors syn på dette med Richard Rortys, som de kritisk diskuterer i sin bok. Jeg argumenterer for at Dreyfus og Taylors angrep på hva de kaller «medieringsperspektivet» til fordel for et syn på erfaring som engasjert mestring er treffende fra et fenomenologisk perspektiv, men bringer ikke med seg, som de tror, et løfte om substansielle nye forståelser av intensjonalitet eller realisme. For såvidt er Rortys «deflatorisk realisme» å foretrekke. Men sistnevnte trenger også å ta inn over seg forståelsen av erfaring Dreyfus og Taylor tilbyr – noe jeg foreslår kan gjøres på en konsistent måte.

El presente trabajo busca reflexionar, desde las perspectivas de la filosofía política, sobre las posibilidades de la integración de la religión en el espacio público, específicamente el Islam, en sociedades pluralistas y democráticas. En el artículo se discutirán las ideas de filósofos occidentales –tales como Rawls, Habermas y Taylor– junto con las propuestas de pensadores musulmanes.

La práctica de la administración de la primera mitad el siglo XX junto con su teorización se ha visto enmarcada a la luz de tres paradigmas administrativos: El paradigma tecno-ingenieril, el paradigma sociológico y el paradigma humanista psicológico que han dado a luz las teorías clásicas de la Administración como son La Administración Científica de Taylor, La Administración Clásica de Fayol, La Teoría de las Relaciones Humanas de Mayo y La Burocracia de Weber, todas con un marco conceptual distintivo que han apuntado a la solución de los problemas organizacionales de las empresas en sus respectivos contextos históricos y que aún siguen siendo de gran utilidad, no solamente a las empresas privadas, sino también a las organizaciones estatales. De ahí que surge el análisis de este documento que presenta las principales aportaciones de las teorías clásicas de la administración de la primera mitad del siglo XX a la gestión de las fuerzas militares entorno a tres tópicos: Las tareas, las interacciones sociales y las relaciones de poder en las estructuras de orden jerárquico.

50 years ago back in 1971, David C. Taylor and colleagues from England reported on a small series of surgical epilepsy cases proposing a new type of tissue lesion as a cause of difficult-to-treat focal epilepsy: a localized malformation of cerebral cortex. The lesion is now known as focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) Type II or Taylor’s cortical dysplasia. FCD II is not rare, and today is a frequent finding in neurosurgical epilepsy specimens. Medical progress has been achieved in that the majority of FCD II is diagnosed non-invasively by magnetic resonance imaging today. Detailed studies on FCD revealed that the lesion belongs to a spectrum of mTOR-o-pathies, thereby confirming the authors´ initial hypothesis of a relationship to tuberous sclerosis. Here, selected original materials from Taylor´s series are presented as virtual slides, supplemented by original clinical records, in order to give a first-hand impression of this milestone finding in neuropathology of epilepsy.

In this paper, the propagation of uncertainty on a nonlinear measurement model is presented using a higher-order Taylor series. As the derived formula is based on a Taylor series, it is necessary to compute the partial derivatives of the nonlinear measurement model and the correlation among the various products of the input variables. To simplify the approximation of this formula, most previous studies assumed that the input variables follow independent Gaussian distributions. However, in this study, we generate multivariate random variables based on copulas and obtain the covariances among the products of various input variables. By applying the derived formula to various cases regardless of the error distribution, we obtained the results that coincide with those of a Monte-Carlo simulation. To apply high-order Taylor expansion, the nonlinear measurement model should be continuous within the range of the input variables to allow for differentiation, and be an analytic function in order to be represented by a power series. This approach may replace some time-consuming Monte-Carlo simulations by choosing the appropriate order of the Taylor series, and can be used to check the linearity of the uncertainty. Taylor presentó una lectura demasiado metafísica y que no era lo suficientemente apegada a la documentación histórica y bibliográfica a juicio de sus críticos. Uno de ellos fue Robert Pippin que en 1989 publicó Hegel’s Idealism: The Satisfactions of Self-Consciousness. Esta obra representó un nuevo giro en las inter- pretaciones de Hegel al proponer su obra como una continuación del idealismo trascendental kantiano y una perspectiva epistemológica de la obra hegeliana. El tercer y último momento corresponde a los trabajos de Stephen Houlgate y William Maker, que pretenden conciliar las lecturas anteriores al apelar a las intenciones de Hegel, en particular a lo presentado en la Ciencia de la lógica.

This article studies representations of Indian magic and wizards in five popular nineteenth century Anglo-Indian novels. Such study allows us to understand how ordinary nineteenth century Britons envisioned Indian occult practices. Arguing that literary representations of Indian magic and wizards were essentially structured by the way Indian magic was conceptualized at both the metropolitan centre and the colonial periphery, this article considers the history of actual British encounter with Indian magicians in both Britain and India. It is found that in Anglo-Indian novels Indian wizards were generally stereotyped as malevolent beings, though favourable representations of wizards were not entirely absent. This article seeks to provide an explanation for this. It goes on to argue that, ultimately, representations of Indian magic and magicians in colonial literature reveal more about colonial ideology and public expectations in Britain, than about occult practices and their practitioners in India. The goal of giftedness has been analyzed through various approaches till today. While a group of theoreticians focus on the genetic factors within the subject field, others choose to adopt a wider perspective including potential, fortune, and environment. Contemporary studies advocate that intelligence cannot be expressed in a single way and argue that giftedness should be considered a multi-dimensional concept. This diversity in understanding of giftedness have brought along different theories. According to Renzulli's model giftedness consists of high levels of creativity, strong commitment to a specific area of interest and above-average ability. According to Tannenbaum, in order for an individual to be called gifted, it is necessary for superior general intelligence (g), exceptional specific abilities, non-intellective traits, environmental supports and chance factor to exist all together. The aim of this study is to analyze the talents of Mehmed the Conqueror within the framework of current theories of giftedness. The methodological approach is based on qualitative analysis. The data about Mehmed's talents has been collected through the technique of document analysis. The sources have been used for gathering evidence by means of hermeneutic and phenomenological analyses. The analyses show that Mehmed the Conqueror's talents meet all the criteria of giftedness mentioned in Renzulli's Three Ring Model, Taylor's Approach of Giftedness and Tannenbaum's Approach of Giftedness. The aim of the article is to analyse the relationship between ethics and human identity in Alasdaire MacIntyre's, Charles Taylor's and Paul Ricoeur's narrative approaches.These concepts show that ethics and constitution of human identity condition each other. The article shows the specificity of ethics (emerging from narrative concepts) which contains both aspects of modern and post-modern ethics and at the same time goes beyond their one-sidedness and limitations. Project success is an issue of intense interest to both scholars and project management practitioners, and yet its theoretical elaboration continues to be somewhat under-developed. Responding to this gap between theory and practice, we tease out the dynamics of the design(ing) duality in relation to project management. Our argument is informed by the contrasting management theories of Taylor (design) and Follett (designing), and it is illustrated by drawing on two different experiences of a large Initial Training Network project funded by the European Commission. We suggest that a comprehensive appreciation of project success requires an interweaving of the substantive and processual understandings reflected in the design(ing) duality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, I intend to reconstruct the main points of Taylor's politics of recognition, starting from the debate about negative and positive liberties. Then, I will focus on the role of the ideal of authenticity in this conception of freedom, as well as on the dialogical conception of the self. Furthermore, I will develop the political consequences of these ideas. In addition to examining McBride's argument about the oppressive character of recognition, I will also address Fraser's objection concerning the sectarian character of Taylor's theory. Furthermore, I also consider Ikäheimo's criticisms in respect to the problem of integration between the horizontal and vertical forms of recognition, the issue of affirmative action, and the idea of a passive subjectivity. In a recent paper, Michael Kiley argued that the Calvo model of price adjustment is both quantitatively and qualitatively different from the Taylor model. What we show is that Kiley (along with most other people) are choosing the wrong parameterization to compare the two models. In effect they are comparing the average age of Calvo contracts with the completed length of Taylor contracts. When we compare the average age of Taylor contracts with the average of Calvo, the differences become much smaller and easier to understand. We also show that autocorrelation of output can be larger in a Taylor economy than in the age-equivalent Calvo economy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
