Abstract Evidence-based practice (EBP) means integrating the best available scientific evidence with clinical experience and patient values. Although perceived as important by many psychotherapists, there still seems to be reluctance to use empirically supported therapies in clinical practice. We aimed to assess the attitudes of psychotherapists in Austria toward EBP in psychotherapy as well as factors influencing the implementation of EBP. We conducted an online survey. To investigate attitudes toward EBP, we used two subscales (“Limitations” and “Balance”) of a translated and validated short version of the Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Scale-36 (EBPAS-36). Participants provided perceived barriers and facilitators as answers to open-ended questions. We analyzed the responses mainly using descriptive statistics. Open answers were analyzed using a thematic analysis. In total, 238 psychotherapists completed our survey (mean age 51.0 years, standard deviation [SD] = 9.9, 76.9% female). Psychotherapists scored on average 2.62 (SD = 0.89) on the reversed EBPAS-36 subscale “Limitations,” indicating that the majority do not perceive EBP as limiting their practice as psychotherapists. They scored 1.43 (SD = 0.69) on the reversed EBPAS-36 subscale “Balance,” indicating that psychotherapists on average put a higher value on the art of psychotherapy than on evidence-based approaches. Organizational factors such as lack of time and access to research studies as well as negative attitudes toward research and a lack of skills and knowledge kept respondents from implementing EBP. Our study highlights that EBP is still not very popular within the psychotherapy community in Austria. The academization of psychotherapy training might change this in the future.

The immobilization of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) linear surface assemblies on polycarbonate (PC) melt surface via molding is investigated. The order of the particle assemblies is preserved during the molding process. The assemblies on PC exhibit plasmonic coupling features and dichroic properties. The structure of the assemblies is quantified based on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and image analysis data using an orientational order parameter. The transfer process from mold to melt shows high structural fidelity. The order parameter of around 0.98 reflects the orientation of the lines and remains unaffected, independent of the injection direction of the melt relative to the particle lines. This is discussed in the frame of fountain flow during injection molding. The particles were permanently fixed and withstood the injection molding process, detachment of the substrate, and extraction in boiling ethanol. The plasmonic particles coupled strongly within the dense nanoparticle lines to produce anisotropic optical properties, as quantified by dichroic ratios of 0.28 and 0.52 using ultraviolet–visible–near-infrared (UV–Vis–NIR) spectroscopy. AuNP line assemblies on a polymer surface may be a basis for plasmonic devices like surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors or a precursor for nanowires. Their embedding via injection molding constitutes an important link between particle-self-assembly approaches for optically functional surfaces and polymer processing techniques.

The rational design and dispersion engineering of plasmonic colloid gratings are mainly responsible for advancing refractive index sensors. Herein, a 1D colloidal plasmonic lattice composed of nanoparticle dimer chains fabricated by a combination of interference lithography, soft molding, and colloidal self‐assembly is studied. The bottom‐up approach affords centimeter‐scale arrays of high‐quality colloidal nanoparticles with resonances in the visible range. Demonstrating a special case of collective plasmonic coupling called out‐of‐plane lattice resonance (OPLR) is focused on. Such OPLRs are excited, solely under oblique illumination with transverse magnetic polarization, and these findings with electromagnetic simulations are supported. In addition, it is experimentally found that such resonances are spectrally narrow with a linewidth of 8.08 ± 0.6 nm and have a quality factor of 78.49 ± 5.7, an enhancement by a factor of 11.62 compared with a single particle. The oblique incidence provides field enhancement outside the substrate plane, which is more accessible and sensitive to a surrounding analyte. A simple glycerol–water mixture as a model system to demonstrate this enhanced sensitivity and discuss the potential for a sensing application in an asymmetric refractive index environment is demonstrated. Beyond these sensing applications, this platform has the potential to enhance other processes, such as hot carrier injection or coherent energy transfer.
