Abstract Background Polypharmacy and the use of potentially inappropriate medications are common among nursing home residents and are associated with negative outcomes. Although deprescribing has been proposed as a way to curtail these problems, the best way to implement multidisciplinary comprehensive medication review and deprescribing and its real impact in specific high-risk populations, such as nursing home residents, is still unclear. This multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial aims to assess the effects of a multidisciplinary mediation management program on medication use and health problems. Methods A total of 1,672 residents aged ≥ 65 years from 22 nursing homes in South Korea who meet the targeted criteria, such as the use of ≥ 10 medications, are eligible to participate. The experimental group will receive a comprehensive medication review, deprescription, and multidisciplinary case conference with the help of platform. Outcomes will be measured at baseline, at the end of the intervention, as well as at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the end of the intervention. The primary endpoints will be the rate of adverse drug events, number of potentially inappropriate medications/potentially inappropriate medication users/two or more central nervous system drug/ central nervous system drug users, delirium, emergency department visits, hospitalization, and falls. The secondary endpoint will be the number of medications taken and polypharmacy users. Discussion Our trial design is unique in that it aims to introduce a structured operationalized clinical program focused on reducing polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications in a nursing home setting with large samples. Trial registration Ethical approval was granted by the public institutional review board of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (2022-1092-009). The Titanic disaster is a topic that continues to fascinate. As the importance of analytics continues to grow in industry, data literacy skills have become increasingly important in business education. This project allows students to use the passenger data from the Titanic to build their data literacy skills using an engaging, experiential topic. The project requires students to extract, transform, describe, analyze, and draw conclusions regarding the factors that impacted survival on the Titanic. The project can be deployed using various application software and tools. We describe how the assignment can be completed using Excel, Tableau, and Python using the Pandas library.

This study was an examination of the micro-learning method, which is a mobile learning approach. To examine the preferences of learners regarding the microlearning method, a course consisting of educational videos and information on online tables was presented at Anadolu University using the Moodle Platform AKADEMA. The research methodology used was a mixed design. Due to the short attention span of young people in the 21st century, an online course was designed to determine the participants' preference for "bite-sized videos", and the research was examined in terms of the participants' video duration preference, their perspective on current education, and the necessity of microlearning. A published course, named "Online Tables", was prepared according to an ADDIE instructional design model, and videos which were no longer than five minutes each as well as included multimedia principles were prepared for the entire course following micro-learning methods. The research universe consisted of 584 learners, and among them, 73 participants were included in this study based on purposeful selection using criterion based sampling. Data were analyzed through content analysis using the categorical analysis method. The data obtained from participants were interpreted, and it was determined that participants preferred the micro-learning method.

Strawberry is one of the most preferred fruits all over the world due to its characteristic properties. Due to the morphological structure of fresh strawberries after harvesting, quality losses are observed during cold storage. Therefore, industrial washing of fresh strawberries is especially important for reducing microbial load and increasing shelf life. Demand for the new methods as an alternative to the chemicals used in industrial washing of fruits and vegetables is increasing due to consumer-related health concerns. Ultrasonic washing is a preferred innovative method in terms of reducing the microbial load and maintaining quality properties compared to chemical washing processes. In this study, fresh strawberries were washed with ultrasound (550 W/35 kHz) and peroxyacetic acid (40 ppm) after harvesting. The pH, total acidity, water soluble dry matter (brix), vitamin C, total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, total viable, mold and yeast count analyses were performed in every two days during 14 days of cold storage of washed strawberries. Ultrasonic washing was found to be more effective in reducing microbial load and preserving bioactive properties of strawberries compared to other method due to its cavitation effect.

Long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on autistic individuals and their families are recently emerging. This study investigated these effects in 40 mother-child dyads by measuring the behavioral problems of autistic individuals (via Aberrant Behavior Checklist) and their mothers' anxiety levels (via Beck Anxiety Inventory) during the pre-pandemic period, one month after, and one year after its onset. One year into the pandemic, aberrant behaviors of autistic individuals worsened only for those whose mothers had high anxiety levels. The continued negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the behavior of autistic individuals is related to their mother's anxiety level, highlighting the need to support maternal mental health in families with individuals with autism.

Technological tools are being used in support sessions with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), producing a high level of encouragement and engagement in these individuals. A four-step study comprising a focus group session, thinking aloud sessions, an online questionnaire, and a pilot study was conducted. First, a focus group session was conducted with professionals (n = 10) with different backgrounds that support children with ASD on a daily basis. Considering the outputs from the focus group, thinking aloud sessions with two specialists and an online questionnaire with 138 participants were conducted. Finally, a pilot study with four children with ASD was performed in order to test the constraints of the system. The goal of this article is to present findings concerning the design of social stories in a storytelling game that uses a new object with playware technology (OPT) as tangible interface with children with ASD. The storytelling game allows promoting the recognition of emotions in a triadic setup involving a robot, a child, and a professional or researcher. The key issue in this activity is to find the adequacy of the scenarios. The participants pointed out the main aspects to take into account in the development of the storytelling scenarios. New designs of the story scenarios were developed and the final design of the OPT was elaborated. The pilot study allowed to conclude that the children understood the mechanics of the games and successfully interacted with the new OPT.

The present study aimed to examine the mediator role of academic self-efficacy and the moderator role of gender in the relation between attitude towards distance education and academic life satisfaction. The Study Group consisted of 452 participants who were studying at 3 different state universities in Turkey. The Attitude Scale towards Distance Education Applied in the Period of the Outbreak, Academic Self-efficacy Scale, and Academic Life Satisfaction Scale were used as the data collection tools. The data were analyzed by using the SPSS package program. As a result of the analyses, it was found that academic self-efficacy plays a partial mediating role in the relation between the attitude towards distance education and academic life satisfaction. Another important finding of the study was that the mediating effect of academic self-efficacy was moderated by gender in the relation between attitude towards distance education and academic satisfaction. Although the attitude towards distance education in women had a significant impact on self-efficacy belief, it was not the same in men. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of similar studies in the literature.

In this study, poly(lactic acid), polyethylene glycol), and benzalkonium chloride with different concentrations (3, 5, 7, and 9%wt.) (PLA/PEG/RCL) composite electrospun mats were produced. PLA is a non-toxic polymer with high biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, it may be fragile due to its structure. Therefore, in this study, PEG was used as a plasticizer to improve the structural properties of PLA and it was aimed at providing antibacterial properties by adding BCL salt. Its use as an antibacterial composite nanomaterial effective against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Gram-negative Escherichia coti (E. coli) bacterial cultures and as a dermal wound dressing material has been examined in two different areas. The addition of BCL salt reduced the bead formation in PLA/PEG nanofibers and increased the homogeneity of fiber dispersion. 9% BCL-doped composite nanofiber was obtained as the smoothest and most homogeneous surface. This mat was reported to have the highest ductility. The low [T.sub.m] of pure BCL salt enabled the [T.sub.g] temperature of PLA/PEG/BCL composite nanofibers to be observed. It was observed that as the BCL salt ratio increased, the [T.sub.5] and [T.sub.10] temperatures of the nanofibers decreased and then increased. BCL-doped mats exhibited liquid absorption behavior in the range of 497%-708%. PLA/PEG/BCL composite nanofibers showed high toxicity to the L929 fibroblast cell line. So, it has been reported that it cannot be used as a dermal wound dressing. PLA/PEG/ BCI. composite nanomaterials were reported to have 99.99% antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. It was suggested that it could be used in antibacterial coating applications by taking into account modem nanocoating technology.
